- ARNG Warrior Training Center Ranger Team Leader Initiative and Ranger Assessment Training Course
Somewhat unknown and hidden within Fort Moore (aka Fort Benning) is the Army National Guard's Warrior Training Center (WTC). The ARNG Warrior Training Center trains Service Members in critical functional skills, develops leaders, and represents the ARNG in order to increase the Federal and State operational readiness of the ARNG.
In this episode, we dive into the Ranger Team Leader Initiative and the Ranger Training Assessment Course, a precursor for those who are wanting to attend Ranger School, with Cpl LeShane, an instructor and former student of the program. He provides all of the details of how to attend this course and how some have also returned to become instructors full-time.

That’s my son Austin. I am a very Proud of you. I love you
I was in the army national guard way back in the early 90s. Tried to get into ranger school. Only to get told that I had to quit the guard and go active army to qualify. I so much wanted a ranger tab. Glad to see programs that work for all. Thanks for sharing.
CPL Leshane was the best mentor I ever had always genuine and solid and pushed me to be the best me
Damn. His story sounds similar to mine.
I was truant, got a GED, was arrested over something stupid and was charged with possession. Recruiting XO signed off on sending my waiver up, but his commander didn’t. Moved to Florida with my wife at the time, and had a pretty good setup going on. But still had that “what if”, that desire to join.
Didn’t have the support I needed from her, but I didn’t let that stop me. Eventually we got divorced. I just returned from OSUT in October and I start drilling with my unit in February. Super excited and grateful to all who helped.
Really, really wish I had signed up for RTLI, but I wasn’t ready and I missed home a lot.
This Cpl is going places
CPL Leshane was one of the cadre went I went through RTLI a couple years back, at the time he was still a specialist. Unfortunately I didn't take it as seriously as I should have and I didn't pass, but I did complete the full RTLI course before getting sent home, and even RTLI on its own was an excellent course and massively improved my level of knowledge and training, in particular land navigation, we did an absurd amount of land navigation, it made the OSUT land navigation look like an easter egg hunt. The RTLI cadre were extremely personable and professional and gave every student the tools they needed to succeed. One of the newest guys in my squad also went through RTLI and he has the same feelings about the program.
Dang dudes giving me the motivation to go back in and try the army out. I’m 28 myself served 14-18.
Never quit your dreams young man. You can do anything you set your mind to.
Damn cool story Cpl. You never gave up.
That’s my cpl!!!
RTLI is a great program. For OSUT NG trainees. In my opinion, it should be available to RA as well. It makes the overall force better. Even if they fail, they will have a way better understanding and be better prepared to lead in the near future. Just had a one of my trainess graduate last month.
Agreed. Infantry Officers have this path, why not enlisted?
CPL Leshane was a hard mentor but it was worth it even tho he didn’t like me:(
he said you had the skills to get your tab, you just had to apply them
Wait so who do you have to talk to to go to RTLI if your an instructor here at ft Moore?
So how long has cpl Le Shane been in the Army? Is he a Ranger or got the ranger tab?
I think he shares in the episode. Can’t remember at the moment. He’s Ranger tabbed only (at the moment).
He has been in for many years, I heard him say he has been an e4 for about 5 years now, he has the ranger tab and almost every school from fort Moore, except rasp
RTAC best pre ranger
So you get the Ranger tab from assessment training school? Or Ranger school
Ranger School. These are programs to get a person ready.
@@Mentors4mil Thank you
State of that barnet
Can a reservist go to RTLI?
It’s only an ARNG program at the moment.
