FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, the Option 40 pipeline (at least for 11X) does RASP BEFORE Airborne school now. Regiment got sick of people quitting on day 1 of RASP because all they wanted to do was airborne.
EDIT: For further explanation, if you fail out of RASP now, you will NOT have a guaranteed shot for Airborne school (you would have to ask for airborne once you get sent to a random leg unit, but gfl with that, getting an airborne slot while serving in a non-airborne unit is difficult). If all you want to do is Airborne, then what you should be looking for is an Option 4 contract, that contract guarantees a shot for Airborne school after completion of Basic/AIT.
I'm just curious where did you get this information. I asked my recruiter and he said it still airborne then RASP.
@@stevemoore4439 When I reserved an 11X opt 40 contract a week ago my recruiter said that the army has changed things and RASP is now before Airborne because Regiment got tired of soldiers backdooring ranger contracts.
And yesterday when I talked to my recruiter's SFC he also said that Airborne is now after RASP.
Keep in mind that this was for 11X Option 40, other MOS may be different. Now that I think about it I'm going to edit the original comment again for further clarification.
@@Zillerguy
Thank you for your reply I am going for 68w
@zillersplat did it say in you're contract that you were attending airborne after RASP? I'm pretty sure in the contract the recruiter showed me, shipping out Dec 31 it had airborne before RASP. This for 11x.
@@dysentarygary1249 Airborne was shown after RASP in my contract (based on start date and order top down), recruiter himself confirmed it. It's possible that this could be region specific (I'm in TX), but it would still be weird for the pipeline to vary.
I went to Airborne, Air Assault and Pathfinder School back to back in 1973-74. But Ranger School KICKED my ASS!!! And I was more than READY

my son was a 13F. And he was JTAC qualified. He was a fast burner. So when he made E-6 he went green to gold. Now he is a Captain. You just never know what the Army is gonna have in store for you.
awesome that your son did very well for himself.
Incredible
I'm thinking about pursuing rasp
Yeah it’s different now. Train to exceed the standards (RFT, RPAT, RAW, 12 mile ruck) and don’t have a tiny heart.
rip this man made it to week 7 and fails a push-ups test
@The Spook Who Sat By The Door "Ranger Push Ups" involve pushing your chest 3 inches into the ground and bringing the earth with you as you extend in order for them to count. Army standard does not apply from what I experienced.
@@eKrub88 damn skippy. They don't know how burnt he was by week 7.
@@HighTreason007 oh I know exactly how burnt he was
Infantryman NYC Wait, so they let you back after sent you to big army? Interesting
So what is the PT test involving these push ups exactly? Is it basically doing the APFT but you gotta get almost perfect score using perfect technique???
Most informative video on the internet explaining RASP ! Nailed It !!!
Thanks! Yeah he did a great job honestly
Matt Ward I don’t think it could
possibly be better explained!
Airborne now is after RASP. My son is in infantry training now and got caught in the change.
My son as well.
Bob Surratt my son just got a contract to go 11x option 40 with airborne school after basic, can he expect to go to RASP before Airborne? He ships out in January.
Yes
I was hoping they wouldnt change that, ._. I wanted that airborne qualification but RLTW
Eric Loya yes
I commend you for giving it your best shot, having it not work out, and then to share your experiences to help others. It’s easy to see that you’re a good person. I wish you the best.
Awesome video Matt, can't say I've been to RASP, respect to this young man for attempting. Hopefully he can go again before his term is over.
Honestly from my experience, that tan beret meant nothing. When you arrive at regiment your life will be hell. The men in regiment will do absolutely everything to try and make life hard for you until you go to school. Without that tab in regiment you will have no respect and be treated like garbage, doesn’t matter if you are e-1 or e-4. The tab is what gets you the respect so I suggest going to school as soon as you can.
Austin Rousee damn that sounds miserable that’s the route I wanna take , what did you do on a day to day basis in the regiment ?
Austin Rousee what are you suggesting for those who are heading the ranger way. School??.
Zolydick K well first of all PT,PT and more PT. You typically will do one or more 5 mile runs a week along with some good CrossFit style workouts. The guys at battalion are PT monsters (i myself am not amazing at PT compared to others but I am one of the fastest Rucker’s you will ever meet.) It is a very high tempo. We spend a lot of our time at the range or in the field. A lot of the times you will sleep in the field rather then go home late and arrive early like at a lot of normal big army units. But you also have some details but nothing like pulling weeds or picking up garbage like you would be in normal infantry. All and all expect to be doing lots of hard training, deployments will seem amazing because rather then training you will be actually doing it. When it’s time for you to deploy you and the rangers around you will be able to have a person flexed cuffed on the ground before he wakes up.
Austin Rousee So it’s basically nonstop PT
Zechidvjchi no just get an option 40 in your contract and worry about finishing RASP first. School is a different type of suck that you can embrace after spending some time in the regiment. They will send you to school within the first year typically. I was just letting people know that you will not be respected until you have that tab.
In addition to RASP coming before Airborne, the first phase has been redone so now Cole Range is now week 4 and you'll do a "practice" Cole Range in like week 2 or 3 where it is very land nav focused. So have fun and don't feel sorry for yourself when you're sucking. Also I'm pretty sure I went through RASP with you during your second class. 06-17
Did you make it in Regiment ? I am joining in a month. Hopefully they will have option 40 contracts at my recruiter in FL

Thank you so much for this video. Praying for these young men. This road is long and hard. If you are thinking about option 40, know what you are getting yourself into, when they say it is hell, they are not joking. And once in Regiment, you still have to earn respect. It is NOT a video game. God Bless Our Boys.

Lol, you right
What's harder between RASP and Ranger School?
@@lawv804 rasp is way harder, passing ranger school does not make you a ranger, passing rasp does

Rip is the same thing as rasp
@@lanceaustin7057 - In theory yes. In reality NO.
R.I.P. was a 100 mile per hour Smokefest and Brain-Burner for 21 days straight with basically no sleep or food back in my time. (I'm old now). Back then, it wasn't really about teaching you anything. The first week or so was pure physical ass-kicking. The last week or so was "Overload of information after being totally depleted" while continuing said ass-kicking.
It was really just a brutal smokefest to see if you might have a chance to keep up with the Batt Boys physically AND mentally for a year or so. IF you could somewhat keep up, then the Regiment could teach you what you needed to know.
And once you got to Regiment, IF you could keep up consistently AND learn what you needed to learn, THEN you would eventually go to Ranger School (which is also quite different nowadays).
Back then... Ranger School was where 200 pound studs became 140 pound shells of a human in 58 days of mental and physical torture. LOL
And there's not a woman on earth who could have ever come close to passing it.
Even back then prior to the Internet, we heard about Navy SEAL's so-called "Hell Week"... And we laughed (with jealousy).
But just to be clear, while the "process" of becoming a Ranger has changed a lot over the years -- I have no doubt that the "end result" has only improved. After all... There's 9 ways to skin a cat.
But you still end up with 2 or 3 thousand intensely capable killing machines called RANGERS.
And they will ALWAYS --- lead the way.
Perfect timing. Just got Airborne Ranger added to my contract
Alonzo Herman i just signed infantry airborne ranger last week💪🏼 good luck
@alonzo Herman When do you ship out?
Fucking civilians just say you got an option 40
Good luck, you'll have great times and you'll have shitty times, but in the end, you'll feel like you checked off an item on ur bucket list... And the memories... 👍👍
i just got an option 40 too. get ready. we have to go through RASP first. THEN airborne.

A friend of mine is an instructor at RASP. I’m glad to hear as a fellow Ranger they aren’t fucking around at RASP
It's funny when I went through RIP back in 89. It was 3 weeks. You got 3 hours down time. No sleep really and just constant smoking.
Somewhere along the line it went to four weeks of a smoke fest. "Hit the woodline" and "go find me a stick" became the two most hated phrases. Lawn mowers in the hallways were the cadre's favorite alarm clock. Funny how they always seemed to get you up a few hours before they told you to actually be up.
They provide the marijuana ?
Been waiting for this !
Most informative video about RASP.
So this summer when I went to BCT, it came time for Land Nav. They told us that the course was going to be crazy and we actually went to Cole Range. It sucked. It was a 2 day event. Rained the entire time. I remember Yankee Road and Cole Range vividly. I hated it so much. I remember one of the signs said Pre-Ranger on it. Was a cool Experience. We all got automatic passes because of how crazy the course was. D/2-54 August 17, 2018
That was awesome and really clear, thankyou

Pre rasp is quite different right now. We got released after 1400 for gym and food time and were able to go off post. Still a lot of standing around on rocks.

We used to carry everything we owned and ran from airborne school to the Piedan field in 2004 when it was RIP.
The best way to prepare for RASP is to join as an 11x with a Ranger contract. You're already used to a high speed, high stress environment and haven't been corrupted by the "real Army" yet. Just remember, Airborne won't last forever (it kinda sucks, but totally worth it) and you'll soon be off to see your new RASP daddies
You're totally right bro, being in the real army slow pace sometimes hurry up and wait op tempo is just so corrupting. (not sarcasm)
It has started in Regiment. Women are there, support, not in the line companies.
You said you go the regiment after rasp, but what if you haven’t done ranger school and don’t have the tab? Do you have to go to ranger school?
@Matt Ward ... At any point during the interview did he talk about what part of the training the 5 mile run comes in? I.e., is it the same day as the APFT, different day, how many times is it necessary over the course of RASP?
@The Spook Who Sat By The Door It's a timed part of the graded criteria in RASP I believe. I am asking at what point they are graded on their 5-mile time. At some point they have to do a record, 5-mile time in less than 40 minute, I am wondering WHEN and how that comes in.
@The Spook Who Sat By The Door Yea, he said PT test week 6, and then week 7 for failures.
But what I'm trying to find out HOW they administer the timed, graded 5-mile run. Do they do it the same day as APFT? Is it right after, do they do it next day, do they do it on a different day, etc...
forrestang it’s the same day. You do all PT events at once besides the 12 mile ruck. Pushups, sit-ups, 5 mile, and pull ups.
@@mastermike95 thanks... so I guess they replace the 2 mile with a 5 mile... I thought for some reason it was its own separate event.
forrestang No 2 mile run in RASP, but you will still do the regular Army PT test (ie 2 mile run) when you get to Batt.
What books should we study? (Other than the ranger handbook)
Good video. Good luck to anyone going to RASP, getting into Regiment is easy, staying is hard😈 Comment on this if you’re going to 2/75😽

There's no shame in not meeting their very high standards for PT. You went to rasp and worked through it shoulder to shoulder but some people are just physically superior and there's no shame in that. If you quit than that's a different story.

2) MEPS
3) Basic/AIT
4) RASP
5) Airborne (although, this is new info to me that airborne is after RASP...)
6) inprocess to your Battalion
What about Airborne after RASP for the guys with option 40?
Man, at least they let you eat at Cole range. For us they gave us 5 minutes to download the MRE's, pass them out, eat, pack everything back into its container (which is always harder), and load it back on the truck. You'd be lucky to get a bite of something in that time frame. I usually ate my salt packet with water, and then would sneak what ever pastry or candy my MRE came with lol. Which guys were getting kicked out for, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
can you make a vid about 68w opt 40???
Then It should be mandatory to go through ranger school first to get to the 75th..if that's what you mean?
I was talking to someone who just graduated rasp and apparently there is no more final exit PT test.
Question so my MOS isn't on the RASP list for opportunities but my recruiter said its possible to volunteer for RASP at that point do they send you to Airborne School 1st or After RASP if you pass?
I went (in 2011) and i had a variety of different mos’s in my class from s-shop to a cook…. Even a patriot missile guy. i was the last 11x class and got reclassified as 11c. No real slots for a mortar man, but you can always reclass (or drop a packet) but remember we are shooters/family first (then you have an army job). Hope you made it or got your packet in!
