    Dang it. Forgot to mention they also have pull ups that they have to do in Ranger school for their PT test. Oh well..... Do you think a soldier should be called a Ranger if they completed Range school or do you feel only those that are actually in the 75th Ranger Regiment should be called Rangers?

      Knowin quite a few Rangers myself. No just because you have a tab doesn’t mean you should go around saying you are a Ranger. Rangers who belong to the Regiment are Rangers. Yes the tab carries a lot of weight when it comes to leadership qualifications but don’t go saying you are special operations ranger bad ass high speed mo fo who kicks doors in and caps people. You could be a rear echelon fobbit and have a Ranger tab.

      Also when doing the pt test get to the front of the line especially on push ups. When they start to get towards the end and already have a bunch of people who passed they will fail people on push ups for improper form because they don't want the class sizes too big. I watched a guy do about 100 push ups but 60 weren't "done properly" and they dropped him.

Thats 29 weeks from start if enlistment to Ranger Battalion which at that point the training to be a Ranger just begins. You don't just get to stay a Ranger because you passed RASP. • @kevincantrell6295
    @kevincantrell6295 Před 5 lety +14

    Let me explain why a Tab doesnt make you a Ranger over a Scroll. The Ranger Tab is a leadership school. When you go to RIP (when I was in) or RASP (now). RIP was a gut check to see if you would quit based on stress and if you can think while being stressed out and lack of sleep. This is essential for a Ranger. Once you get to Bat you learn how to be a Ranger with real world training. You do EVERYTHING they do in Ranger school. You go on a list for Ranger school once you get to Bat. This list is determined by your performance in Bat and either after you do boards to become protomable then you get the school (again leadership school). By the time you get there everything in RNger school is second nature to a Ranger. In some cases it is looked at as vacation from Bat to be at "school". Its a bit like have an active duty soldier go back to basic after 2 years in active duty. So being a Ranger with a scroll is very different from being taught Ranger leadership tactics. I hope this helps. Life in Bat is very different than life in regular Army. I hope that helps. Not trying to nit pic just explaining why you are not viewed as a Ranger unless you wear the scroll.

    So much of the confusion between being Ranger Qualified (the tab) and being a Ranger (scroll) could be cleared up by renaming Ranger School to something else. Everyone's agreed that both are tough and both provide the intended training. But they are not the same thing.

    If I had a Ranger tab, I'd say I was "Ranger Qualified" or had attended Ranger school but if someone called me a "Ranger" I would not be mad. I'd add that some combat veterans: 11Bs did get "Ranger" tabs by being attached to Ranger units in combat then serving with honor or bravery. COL David Hackstraw a former military writer & Army veteran served in Korea. He got a Ranger tab that way. I think WWll had soldiers go directly into Ranger units too but I may be wrong.

      There would still have been training requirements in that era. In WW2 they may have recruited non serving straight in but they would have been required to do training.
      I am sure people who served with them in a support capacity may have by way of battle experience been accepted in but that would have been very rare.

      Jeffrey Lillibridge C'mon now Ranger, you learned the Ranger heritage just like I did. Do you remember the essay you wrote in that nice warm classroom with the lights low, while you were on your 5th or 6th day of averaging 1.5 hours of sleep per day and hungry enough to eat your eraser and ask for seconds. I'll never forget it "You all know the Ranger Heritage. Tell me what it means to be a Ranger. Close a fuckin eye and you might as well go on to bed because I'll make sure you aren't selected even if you finish RIP". I know my fortitude and quasi hallucination based essay didn't come from the thoughts of kitted out Special Operations Rangers (even us ass kicking, pussy getting 2nd Btn badasses) it was the Rangers who took out the guns atop the cliffs of Normandy even though the Intel was shit and they had to go find them in the dark with only their guts and a hunch to guide them kliks through Nazi infested terrain and take out those guns and they did, why because they HAD to, if those pieces had been active D-day flops, and we never get a foothold unto the mainland. So what's a Ranger? Is it really a Reg or is it someone who proven that no matter what it takes they will drive on until the mission is complete, make an INDEPENDENT decision and eat what ever shit is necessary to follow through on that decision and complete the mission even if the decision is wrong you will fuckin push until it works. A Ranger is someone who has proven that he can and will make a decision and make that decision work no matter what and the Tab is his Brand.

      @elwoodblues8026 Před 6 lety +2

      Happened upon the video screwing around the tubes.. neat. I have read the comments and seen different people argue for the position Rangers with the Tab are Rangers too. I am sorry, but being Ranger Qualified is different than being in the Regiment. One is a Special Operations Soldier that is specifically schooled for the missions and operations within the RGT and the other is Ranger Qualified, the premium sign of leadership in almost any unit. YOU can both claim the title Ranger, very few will say different, but a Ranger is one who is or was stationed in the 75th Ranger RGT. You can be a Ranger and never have gone to Ranger school .You can go to Ranger school and never be a Batt Boy. Now keep in mind the school pre-dates the RGT. The issue here is that a Tab is a qualifier "tab", the Scroll a way of life. It was not always the case. There was a time where the Tab was all there was and if you were tabbed, you were almost never called out by your rank but by the Honorific "Ranger." How do I know this? Google. Actually we had a few Vietnam Rangers in my unit when I first got there, before I ever even considered trying to get a slot in the school or going to the RGT. Hell you had to go through a local RIP to even be considered for a school slot and it only got worse you had another RIP and after that if you got accepted into the RGT.. well Ranger school was easier than a day in the RGT and comabt was easier than Ranger school. ... in a later unit we had a few Rangers, that never went to the school, but served in the RGT I would love to see someone tell them they were not Rangers because they wre not tabbed. Tabbed or not if they served in the RGT or they went to the school, they have a right to claim Ranger, but there is a difference that is only important to certain people. I am no longer in the miitary and have been out well over 30 years and the black and gold still holds true.

    Batt Boys! Lol... in my era, 1990s, late 1980s, the Chief of Staff, DA restricted US Army Ranger school to Combat Arms MOSs only. I think it changed back to all officers, ROTC, enlisted, in the late 1990s. I'd add that in my time, Navy SEALs, Scout Snipers-ForceRecon, AFSOC, SAS, JTF2, could attend Ranger School.

Thereafter gain as much weight as possible but only use gain weight shakes because are lean fat. It worked for me in '95

    Even if you were speaking to someone that isn't more than passingly familiar with the Army saying you are (or were) a Ranger would strongly imply you're serving (or did) with the 75th. I'm not knocking anyone that's been through Ranger school, it's not an easy thing to get through. But getting the tab alone doesn't make you a Ranger. Just like going to medical school doesn't make you a medical doctor if you elect not to take your licensing exams and practice medicine.

    • @parawill7074
      @parawill7074 Před 6 lety +2

      You are wrong. A graduate of Ranger school is a Ranger. The 75th RR is a SOF unit, but the term "Ranger" existed long before they were established. Service in the Ranger regiment or being a graduate of the Ranger course makes you a Ranger, simple as that. We have always considered our Ranger qualified soldiers as "Rangers" and service in the 75th never mattered, nor should it.

    • @damiensouth1160

      Para will you are absolutely correct. I earned my Ranger Tab and became a Ranger and remained 82nd for 16 months until an NCO slot became available in 2nd Btn, upon receiving my new orders I became a Special Operations Ranger. The only thing that changed were my orders (and my kit, Hooah). If you apply that logic in reverse, would a POG attached to a Ranger Company in a support compasity for a deployment, be a Ranger? They do receive Ranger kit and their DD214 will show they deployed as part of said company. The Tab makes a Ranger, Not the orders.

      Umm... YES, considering AB is a qualification and the last time a AB Infantrymen jumped into an active combat zone was WW2... Id say that the 5 Static line jumps you do actually overly prepares you for the needs of the modern Infantrymen when it comes to actually jumping into combat, 1 time is enough to concur any doubts but that would literally be taking away the easiest and funnest part of AB school if we didn't get a 5 jump minimum. AB school has very very little to do with the act of jumping and a whole lot to do with making you a better Infantrymen, an Infantrymen that's been trained on engaging and destroying targets behind enemy lines with minimal equipment, even less support and a whole lot of tactics and balls. "They have us surrounded, boy are they fucked." NEXT

It was 8 weeks of weapons training, heavy weapons and small unit tactics in the jungle. there was training from shotgun to shoulder fired grenades to mortars to hand to hand. they skipped the pushups, the rolling around in mud, the hanging from wires. We were to go back to our units and train up others. We did get attacked, but the war was over for us. I can't imaging taking all that training in the states and then no war to go to.

    I am a former Ranger from the 1/75th. This is back when we still wore our full color stumpy scrolls on our cammies, 78'/79' time period. A Ranger is one who serves in a Ranger Bn. or now a days, in the Ranger Regt. A Ranger qualified soldier is one who has successfully completed Ranger School and is authorized to wear the Ranger Tab. The Regt. Ranger is an individual who may or may not be Ranger School qualified, yet. I say "yet" because most individuals serving in a Ranger unit are normally Ranger qualified before leaving the Regt. You may have left the Ranger Regt. and still not Ranger qualified, but you were still a Ranger during your time there. However, once you leave you are no longer a Ranger in an operational sense. Being Ranger qualified is validation that you have/had the leadership ability to command a team of soldiers in missions who were just as physically spent and mentally exhausted as you were during your time in the barrel and to complete the missions at hand. The Ranger Tab is a leadership tab. The Ranger scroll is a unit designation patch. They are two different animals and should be treated as such. RGR CLS 8-79, RI 85'/88'.

      And, FYI, by the time the Soldiers got to "Florida Phase" most of them were 'Zombies'. Rather comical sometimes. And, I got much love for the Rangers, they were the first unit to ever save my ass in a deployment, at the Airfield in Granada. It was ugly, but they were good. Lead on Rangers.

    It’s confusing to anyone who hasn’t served. Let me pose this question though. Say someone is assigned to 75th and then later leaves and they never attended RS. The scroll leaves their shoulder. Are they still a Ranger as you suggest whereas the person with a tab isn’t? By the way, much of what you covered in RASP was also in Ranger school, but I went a long time ago... Interesting vid.

      It depends on why they left. Guys leave the regiment for a variety of reasons. ETS, RFS, medical discharge/retirement, hiatus from deployments (with prewritten orders to return), etc are all fairly common reasons why people leave. My take is that Rangers serve in the regiment and the school is a school. The reason why is because Ranger units far predated Ranger School.

      Yes. But an officer will also have to attend Ranger school as well since it’s required for NCOs and officers.

      They were talking about Ranger School, to attend RASP, one must be Airborne qualified.. if a Option 40, one would go to 11x OSUT, Airborne School then RASP. In Ranger School those who aren’t Airborne Qualified are typically tasked with LZ duties during jumps.

    • @ZephrusPrime
      @ZephrusPrime Před 6 lety +1

      You can not go to RASP until your Airborne qualified. Part of the end of the first phase of RASP is jumping into Cole -at night. No AB tab no jumpy. Not grey at all.

    • @christopherchaos
      @christopherchaos  Před 6 lety +1

      you have to be airborne for the 75th. You go to RASP first to try and get in and you have to do ranger school before you become an NCO or if you are an officer.

      ed salisch the Colorado Mountain School does train military units for mountain operations, but the Rangers themselves train in Camp Merill in Georgia. The Colorado School is more for mountain rescue and survival and is in fact not run by the military
