People who don't like this movie don't realize the movie isn't about chess. While chess is the setting of the movie, the movie is really about parenting and finding the right balance (as the creator of the video stated). Are you going to be the parent that drives your kid crazy like we see in a lot of other teen movies, especially about football, where they kid eventually ends up not liking their parents (just like the Emilio Estevev's character in The Breakfast Club) or some of the characters in Friday Night Lights? Or are you going to be the parent that nutures that talent like we see Mantenga's and Allen's character do by not only finding one of the best teachers but also allowing Josh to have fun by playing and learning from Vinnie? We see what happens to Ben Kingsley's character by only being focused on chess as he explains not only of himself but of other chess players in his club. And we eventually see what happens to Josh's character as he is more well rounded as a kid. So Josh didn't become the best chess player in the world as an adult, but is that what he really wanted or is the life he is living the best life for him? In Good Will Hunting, we see the potential of Matt Damon's character. But Stellan Stellgard's character sees that potential in Damon to be one of the best mathematicians in the world. But in the end Damon chose what made him happy.
