There was a time I abstained from watching Grandmaster games because the tactics weren't rubbing off on me and I wasn't improving much, even with explanations of the concepts used. It seemed like it was going over my head, so I didn't watch them. It's not good, but it's not such an overwhelmingly bad choice it ruined my chance at chess. I didn't improve much then either, but shortly after, I climbed about 200 Elo in rapid in two months.
I thought of kb1, defending the knight. If he takes my queen, I'm gonna take his. But I calculate one move at a time, so if in next move I get checkmated, I don't know.

My guess is that is still considered brilliant because getting a draw from totally losing is a bit of a victory and if the opponent tries to avoid the draw he just loses
Let's play those moves out. White takes knight. Black takes the bishop with the queen. Black trades knight for bishop which is not too bad. You can't take back the queen because then you lose your own queen because the pawn is pinned by blacks bishop
