I played at mater dei HS from 2001-05, and This dude Schea Cotton was literally Lebron before Lebron. Every teacher I had would tell stories about him and about the SI cover at age 15 and what happened with the scandal and Ucla. His brother played for the Sonics I think for 2 seasons and they both had good careers overseas.
His documentary “Manchild” is definitely worth watching to understand him more.
Great work All the smoke! 💨🏀

I saw Schea Cotton play against Stephon Marbury in the finals of a high school tournament and both teams were really good. Schea was great and was a powerful player with great all-around skill and of course Marbury was a legend in high school. Cotton was strong, could shoot from the outside or drive and finish with big time dunks. In that game, Cotton's team beat Marbury's team and Cotton had a great game. Schea was a great player in high school.

I starred along side James Cotton on our 8th grade Nike AAU team. James is Schea's older brother that made it to the NBA that he keeps referring to. The Cotton's are an amazing family! RIP Forever to Mr. James Cotton Sr! He and Mrs. Cotton were always at our games and supporting their sons. O'Real Cotton was also on our team and had a nice shot. O'Real is their cousin.

One of the best shows ever. This dude was a PROBLEM and the fact the system couldn't control him was tragic. No doubt he never was given them opportunities to show his natural abilities on the big stage. Living legend and the league should help fund his school and pay attention to the next Shea Cotton he is creating in that gym. Saw him 30yrs ago destroy pros and did it with ease and grace. Congratulations on your movement and Godspeed!!!....💯🙏🙏🏀🏀🏀

Great interview. I played with him at VP. Before he went to Cerritos and PTI. Schea always stayed humble through it all. We got a chance to go head up a few times after he left us. Went on to do great things on the court. But like I said I saw him a few times. In high school ran into him at a clipper game, no big timing me. Seen him a few times after that. Last time I seen him was taking my nephew to his game at a league Schea was running. As always same Schea. Always down to earth. Was real sorry to hear about his pops. He was a real one! Moms was always super nice too. So was James. All around good people right here. I'm glad he's still with us. Glad hes helping the next generation. Best interview yall have had.

Definitely a Great interview!! Him and Benji Wilson from Chicago could go down as Great players that unfulfilled they dreams benji obviously was going to make it but he got killed but this makes you appreciate Lebron story even more because dude really had the world on his shoulders at a young age and he didn’t fold im sure it was a lot of pressure and things thrown his way and he made it and has had a outstanding career and is still going you got to have some type of mental toughness to last this long lol like Charles Barkley said Lebron has the Greatest sports story ever but salute to schea cotton doe but once again everybody can’t make it some people can’t handle the pressure that’s why I appreciate Kobe,KG, Lebron T-Mac and Dwight Howard for coming out of highschool and having great careers I’m pretty sure we all know people who should have made it but it don’t always pan out that way

He was like a quicker version of Zion Williamson and could shoot the 3 like a shooting guard. What a basketball stud. This man has so much to offer to the world and his community then just basketball. Which is saying alot becasue he was amazing hooper. Making the nba is the goal for basketball athletes but its doesn't defind if you are a success or a failure in life.

This young man played for a legendary coach Jerry Quinn at STM school in CT. He was a definite man-child.

One thing I wish the people who interview Schea would challenge him on though is why he didn't make it to the NBA. When Schea speaks, it sounds like a lot of excuses. I don't hear a lot of accountability for the things he could have done better that would have increased his chances of making it to the NBA.
Is there a chance Schea was just an advanced high school player for his age who was simply not good enough as adult to play in the NBA?
