  • Cheaper by the Dozen fans and dancers... this one’s for you. Finally having the chance to reconnect, Taylor introduces Tay to Alyson Stoner, and the two discuss their time working together and growing up in the industry. Alyson explains how there was no way for her to understand the long-term implications as a child, including how parts of her did not get a chance to fully develop. She shares how the industry affected how she understood connection: what became to her a cycle of a deep bond, followed repeatedly by a “deep break”. Tay, our resident optimist, asks Alyson if there is something about the industry she loves, which pivots the conversation to her relationship with dance and movement. She dives into what dance means to her and what she hopes to achieve through Movement Genius, her all in 1 subscription platform that takes care of your mind, body, and emotions. Alyson also speaks to what wellness means to her, and how she’s hoping to offer a space for wellness in the most authentic, inclusive fashion. At the end of this episode, we learn that if Alyson could go back in time, she would alter the course of her life and never have entered the spotlight. Would Taylor do the same? Tune in to find out.

I was a child actor as well and my jaw dropped during the fear of people leaving discussion. I had that epiphany right along with Taylor. It made me tear up..but it makes such perfect sense. As a kid spending so much time with one core group of people and then ALL of them being gone overnight after wrap...I guess a way to describe it would be like a kid who moves schools a lot maybe..? But it's like those people become your best friends, your family, your literal day-to-day life and then just gone...over and over again. As a kid I used to cry for like a week straight after wrapping and that heaviness is a feeling I still remember. As a teen, that heaviness felt deeper, too. Well damn. I should probably explore that, huh.

I love Allison’s view point for so many reasons; but as a past dancer(just like Tay, all the way through college) and then stopped I lost that drive for it too, even though I know I still have a love for moment in my heart. This video gave me so much to think about and work on emotionally to try to figure out the “blocks” that’s are coming up when it comes to my relationship with movement. I thank you three so much for discussing your truth as it’s helping others, like me, find our truths too and feel less alone❤

Something that would be really cool is if all the former actors and transitioning actors and actresses put together something like a community podcast or video channel for the newer gen to access. And it could go over pitfalls they could learn to avoid, ways to approach certain situations, ways to unwind after a rigourous shooting schedule. Maybe a trivia piece where they can recall bits of their own films as a way to connect - like if younger actors are playing a recast version of a character that's already been played. To forge a connection between old gen and new. It allows the older actors to pass on their wisdom (and gives them free therapy, as girl Tay said) and it also helps the new gen to navigate the industry without running into as many of the problem areas (because it'll be impossible to avoid them all) and have a more positive experience. I feel like that would be a really good idea and even fans could join in (a sort of live chat between stars and fans) which helps to bridge the gap between the two because (and maybe this is just me) but it gives me a lot of anxiety to think of talking casually to someone in the industry because, as Alyson said, they're so isolated, and I, personally, see the term "celebrity" as more of a verb than a noun. Like it's a job, and you guys are still people. I don't know if I'm explaining this right. But what I mean is, it would help actors to relate to someone not in the industry, and vice versa. I really think that would be a good thing. And of course, free therapy is always a good thing. 😅
Ps. I admired that people still remember Alyson from CBtD, but my favourite version of her was actually Kairi, from Kingdom Hearts. I know she shared that role with Hayden (Panettiere), but I thank her for bringing such an amazing character to life. Thank you, Alyson. 🥰

I love Alyson honestly. I have watched her in so many of her projects with camp rock but also the Step Up movies. You can really tell that she has worked so hard over the years in those rolls. As normal people we don't really think about how this people in the industry could be effectived in a bad way because really all that we see is there high and there succuess. We don't really see what is going on mentally and behind closed doors you know. I feel like this podcast is doing a great job just opening those doors a bit.

Hello: I had never heard of your channel before and happen to come across it and I can't express enough how much your words and demeanour really resonated with me. I enjoyed your views and analysis. Being that I'm in the senior age group (64 Lol), I have such a difficult time relating to today's culture and the many things that mainstream media throws out there. The accessibility to "everything" really does make it a third wheel in your life to the point that it becomes an addiction. I find that I need to break from all the noise in order to remember who I am again. Thank you for this channel and thank you Taylor Lautner - it was lovely seeing and listening to you in this setting and a very honest view about where you're at - very happy for you both. Congrats! I'm always learning something new with each episode. Something I didn't even realize I did was step away from art. I grew up talented in all areas of art and creating. I dove into it as early as I could remember and I was always just naturally good at it without any training. Then I did get more training throughout all my schooling. I took all the extra classes, all the advanced classes. I won competitions, and I even started out going to college for art. But I hated college art classes. I was required to do styles I didn't enjoy, so there was no passion in those areas, I would get graded poorly and it felt like I was straying away from who I was as an artist, so I changed my major. The weird thing is, I haven't hardly done any art since my first year of college and that was about 10 years ago. It's something I am now going to be thinking about a lot now - why was such a huge part of my childhood almost non-existent in my adult life? Same with you and dance Girl Tay.

I so relate to what Alyson is saying here about learning to trust yourself. I did not grow up in the industry, but as a DV survivor the process of trust and care for yourself in the aftermath of abuse is so important, yet so hard to grasp. There are many reasons that a lot of trauma survivors take years to figure out how to go about that, but I know for me I just didn't know how to be kind to myself. I didn't think I was worth the kindess. You have to find value in yourself, before you can even think about taking the steps to heal. Healing is valuing and putting yourself first. Thank you to all of you for this open and insightful interview.

I really relate to what you are talking about regarding dancing. I danced for years, comps, teaching etc. I injured my foot dancing which developed into Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) I continued on for a few years after but stopped 2.5 years ago. I still have the movement in my head when I hear music. I miss moving my body, expressing and using dance as an outlet . It’s so hard in the stage of life to navigate when we get so busy doing other things and something that once was a huge aspect of our lives, eventually fades out. I know you know so much more about this than I do, since you were a nurse, but my husband and I both work from home and at our most recent wellness visits, we discovered our vitamin D levels were tanked! His was 9.1 and mine was 12.1! I know it might not be what is going on, but we were so surprised at what a vitamin D deficiency can cause! Muscle aches, joint and bone pain, low immunity, fatigue, the list goes on! Just wanted to mention this here just in case it could help! Love watching you guys, you all are so down to earth, kind, and relatable! ❤

This one is so moving. Their shared epiphany about deep bond/deep breaks, and the conversation about the beauty of the mundane was really 💔❤️‍🩹.I think Alyson Stoner is brilliant and this show was such a good idea because Alyson and Taylor share a reality that only those who grew up in the industry would know because it’s largely unspoken. The Taylors are doing important work here. It’s kind of radical to talk about this stuff.
Edit: What Alyson said about the “intelligence of the body” is something we don’t talk about nearly enough (we have a “ dumb“ jock stereotype in our culture) but the brain-body connection is our way of processing the world.

I am so glad you got the help you needed. I’m also happy you’re helping others. I have research mk ultra extensively and it sounds to me that that’s basically what they’re putting kid actors through. I know I have seen through the years and I’m 53 a lot of the kids stars having DID. It’s really sad. And if anybody that’s my age and older that one Shirley Temple in the little rascals, we could tell the trauma that they were going through told her we got. And then hearing about Judy Garland what they did to her and Shirley Temple, what they put her through when she was auditioning and was sexually harassed her sexually touched same with Judy Garland made me so sad. I know a lot of people don’t think of this says MK ultra or child trafficking but it is and I’m glad that you’re sending out for these kids and babies. So thank you. Also, I never wondered where you were and I figured you went to college got a degree in was doing what you wanted to do. A lot of people that get traumatic over meeting a person is just in my opinion. Our self entitled. And they forget that actors are people too. They have lives just like us normal people that don’t go into acting or couldn’t make it an acting. One of my daughters, my youngest daughter wanted to go into acting and she still does but she’s a born-again Christian go to church and has like high autism and she doesn’t have she thinks the body and looks to go into it. She’s very talented as a writer and as a performer and as a make up artist and I’m like just give it a try if you want to just don’t forget your talents and how beautiful you are inside and out. Mostly important don’t forget father God and Jesus Christ keep them in your heart and soul and mind. But she won’t try and that makes me sad. Also because a lot of kids are young adults think this way.

Alysons insights actually created some very unexpected a-ha moments for me. Mostly around difficulty and fear involved with creating attachments, which ultimately leads to a degree of self isolation. Not only for myself, but my adult daughters as well. I believe ours however, stems from spending over 20 yrs as a military family. Always having to leave workplace, schools and friends every 2 to 4 yrs, the heartbreak that accompanied it and having to start over again and again. I had grown up and began married life incredibly outgoing, makeing friends quickly everywhere I went, but over the yrs it just became more and more difficult. I began loosing the desire to even try and had had enough sour experiences with not so great people, I became fearful and less trusting of the sincerity of new friends. It was even worse for my girls because in some places they went to 2 or 3 different schools during that 2 to 4 year period. I think with this realization we now have a more defined starting point to begin working on it.

Is there a reason you never explain what *the industry* is? That’s a very broad term 🤷‍♀️

but Taylor has made some pretty disparaging remarks that leads me to believe he is a hateful person. i don't trust anyone in Hollywood anymore.

I enjoyed this podcast, but Tay you’re annoying- with the Valley girl speech…..using the word, “like” every other word. CRINGE.

ummm maybe its because she's literally from where that kind of speech is from. Stop hating and don't watch.

I honestly didn’t even notice because it’s the norm where I’m from lol. And I’m not even from the west lol. You definitely could’ve phrased that in a less criticizing way.

There are nicer ways to put it but I would agree that the over use of the word "like" was pretty annoying. If Tay would try to get her thoughts together and pausing before speaking she wouldn't struggle and resort to over using "like".
