I Bought a Honda Transalp 750! | Long-Term Test Introduction (EP.1)

- čas přidán 27. 07. 2024
- Honda has brought their mid-weight adventure bike, the Transalp 750, to the USA for the 2024 model year. Absent from the mid-size adventure segment except for the CB500X, Honda comes out fighting against the success of the Yamaha Tenere 700, Suzuki V-Strom 800DE, KTM 890 Adventure, Aprilia Tuareg 660, and others. I've purchased a Transalp to feature in a series of videos over the next 6+ months. I'll be going into extreme detail about this bike, so stay tuned.

Could you do an indept analysis of the range and fuel consumption. Vs the other bikes in it's class. Also can you compare how it rides with luggage ect vs the competition, thanks.
Hello Ian, cant wait to see the series. Waiting to see also a ktm790 2023 review, I don’t if it is available în USA.
future comparison to the Tuareg 660??!
Hope you make it to episode 4 and get a bash guard on it before you knock the oil pan off. I’m surprised they let it out the dealership door with that vulnerable aluminum casting unprotected. All for want of an oil to water oil cooler.
You have come a long way my man! Looking forward to these episodes planned. This video has a very positive feel!
Honda bringing back the Trail125, the Africa Twin and now the Transalp. Waiting for the rebirth of the XR650R.
I’m hoping the V4 Magna comes back
Bro... 😮😮😮😮
Don't give me that hope... 😅
@@dstubby82 I’m keeping that hope alive. Wouldn’t it be glorious?
@@dstubby82😅
Rumors have honda also bringing back a 4 cylinder 250cc CBR250RR. Honda is on a role.
You're gonna kill it with this multi-part series!! Gonna be Netflix worthy 🍿😁
Got to admire Ian’s dedication to this channel. $12,000 here, probably another $24,000 for the 1300GS and other bikes he bought this year. It’s all a tax deduction but you don’t make a profit selling bikes and the constant workload of filming/editing can’t be maintained forever.
Agreed. Many underestimate the time, money, energy and commitment it takes to bring us this kind of content.
@@BrandonC610
Be prepared, at the rate your channel is growing you’ll be at 250k by years end…
Nobody buys bikes to make a profit, you buy it at a financial loss and you laugh all the way to the bank while doing it.
And new tool boxes and cabinets behind him.
@@BrandonC610I’m always amazed at how some people put together such well made videos with no formal training or a group of professionals working on the videos. I guess it’s like any hobby you take seriously but man. I tried to make a video once and it took forever and was horrible so I deleted it. Can’t imagine how much of a pain in the ass it is to make halfway decent videos once or twice let alone regularly.
Looking forward to this review series. You strive to make your reviews practical and objective and it shows.
This is the kind of review series needed, no hype, no pithy soundbites, but rather a true deep dive for those considering a purchase to make a more calculated judgement on whether it fits their needs and ambitions!
I think Honda nails it with the looks of their ADV bikes. Both the Transalp and Africa Twin are done really well, no over exaggerated beak or funky headlights, just smooth, easy lines.
Would love to have the Honda reliability, with the tubeless wheels, ground clearance, and cruise control from the Tuareg 660.
Looks like you described the announced 2024 Honda Arica Twin 1100!
Sound like africa twin (some how in Vietnam africa twin base version have same price as transalp and adv 790 R)
Or he just described the Tuareg. It’s amazing.
@@collin228Exactly. I keep looking at every new bike thinking this might be the one, but then when I compare it to the Tuareg, the Tuareg wins. The Transalp has no appeal to me except for that reputation of reliability.
I'd like to have the Tuareg 660 as it is, just with Honda reliability 😁 European design built in Japan would kill all competition. I hope somebody does that
Seems like Honda did a better job routing the exhaust on the 600 from 30 years ago than they did with this one. I absolutely love the way that you are willing to really push the bike to its limits, and kind of show what sort of abuse a bike can withstand. In my opinion, you are doing the best job at reviewing a bike for everyone. I know some people frown upon treating such a beautiful machine in such a way, but I appreciate your thorough and extensive reviews.
Episode 7 (comparisons) popping my popcorn already 🍿
It’s always nice to see Simon Pegg doing motorcycle reviews
Since the Transalp was announced I have been looking forward to your take on it. Sounds like the multiple videos are really what I was hoping for! Thanks for the no nonsense best reviews!
Looking forward to the series Ian. Congrats on the new bike. Your reviews are are consistently top notch, next level content!
Looking forward to your series on the Trans Alp. Thanks for buying one to give us the run down!
Honda Transalp, the Toyota Corolla of bikes. I, personally, love it!!! Can't wait for the videos!!!
I love it that you're breaking the full review into separate episodes. Makes it a lot easier to watch separately. 👍🏻👌🏻
Great work as always man 👍🏻
Looking forward to this series, thank you for such an in-depth plan.
My pleasure!
Really looking forward to this series as I have been seriously tempted by the look of the new Transalp. Your reviews are always the most thorough and by breaking this down into a series you will be taking that to a new level 👍
Some bike fanatics here in South Africa souped up the suspension (stiffer springs in front) and took it off road. It actually displayed good offroad manners being a road biased motorcycle. Although it isn't in the same class as T7, Suzuki V-Strom 800 or KTM890 for offroading, it will be more than adequate for the vast majority of riders even if you want to take it off road. Looking forward to your findings
Ian, I'm so excited for this series! This is THE bike I've been waiting for Honda to release for a long time.
Thank you Ian, I continue to appreciate your content and your approach to reviewing motorcycles!
I'm looking forward to this series! No one tests and reviews motos like you do! Simply the most unbiased, honest reviews out there. I don't know if the decisions for what models and configurations we get are made at the Honda America level or the corporate level, but we (America) sure get the dregs from Japan compared to what Europe and other countries get. Down on horsepower, color choice, what color choice? Black only. Regardless, I'm ready for this series.
This vs the 800DE is going to be very informative! I keep bouncing between those two bikes... I know you also love the v-strom so I expect this to be a very in depth and objective look at the difference between both bikes! Thank you for your reviews!
As one of your viewers who chose the Transalp, thank you. That mid range market is getting crazy and I appreciate the work you are doing. Get your rest, and hope you feel better soon.
Thank you Ian for listening to your viewers. Looking forward to the upcoming vids on this bike.
I am so glad you are going to test/review the Transalp! Even better that you are doing an owners long term test! Thank-you!!!!!
Great planning, looking forward to all the episodes.
Thank you!
Sounds freaking great! This will be a series I'll watch multiple times. Transalp is my next bike hopefully
I hope you enjoy this bike.... thank you for this series... keep moving forward!!!!
Great ! Can't wait to watch your reviews. Thanks Ian !
Really looking forward to this series, much appreciated!
Tried this Transalp. Short term. My impressions: low quality plastics. Very thin and make buzz sound around 4k rpm at lower gears. Odd engine. Around 5k rpm at lower gears it vibrate like hell, but after gear change it seems like not enough power/speed to keep up. But it was very comfortable on the road. After this Transalp I tried Tenere 700. My impressions that T7 is more robust bike and has way smoother engine despite it has around 15 kw less then Transalp. Strange...
I bet they just pulled the engine from NC700 and slap $12K sticker. Moneymaker.
If only there were true it would have been my perfect bike; for the NC750 engine that is. That torqy, low rev, frugal, reliable engine seems perfect for any real adventure bike to me
Thanks Ian, looking forward to the Reviews.
Woohoo! Congratulations, looking forward to this series.
I'm really looking forward to watching all the episodes. Great work
I am SO looking forward to this series. I've been looking to downsize and have just one bike and the Transalp might be it. Like so many I'd miss cruise control but if I could do 300 mile tour days with < 20 miles of gravel to sight see ghost towns and cool short cuts this might be the Unicorn. Thanks in advance for all the effort.
Then this is more than capably right off the showroom floor.
im looking at using it for similar riding..a throttle lock for resting the wrist should do the trick😊
@@AndyPat239 with ride by wire it should be possible to add after market cruise control
Oh man, I am so stoked that you bought this bike. I've been a suscriber to your channel and learned a lot from you. When I first bought the Transalp I really hoped you would do this, theres very little out there for a newb. You delivery is first class, I like how you explain things clearly and your video is polished. Looking forward to watching the playlist ..... seriously, better than Netflix! Thank you!
This is great news Ian! You're the man to really test this thing properly. I've always been put off the TransAlp due to it's poor off-road reputation. I'm looking to downsize my 2018 ATAS and if this didn't have a low slung exhaust, it would be on my list. I off-road regularly so it's an important element for me.
Ian, the kind of guy that works even if he has a cold. Mad respect for you and very well done script for the serie.
Get well please, much love from Italy.
Thanks in advance Ian🙏! Really looking forward for such an "extreme review" 👍
Love it. Have been waiting for your review of the Transalp for a long time. Have fun.
I am excited about this one. The Transalp is a legend. Let's see if it lives up to that status. Big thanks to Ian for doing these in-depth reviews
Get well Soon Ian, can't wait to see the series.
All the best.
Fantastic news Ian! I’ll have my new Transalp with accessories fitted in the next few weeks. Looking forward to your views on ownership as you get to know it. Have extensively researched (and ordered) crash bars, bash plate, centre stand, Barkbusters and others and happy to share my findings if you’re interested (eg Honda accessories are generally NOT the best option)
Cheers and happy riding.
Geoff in Australia.
Awesome!
I’m on a waiting list for the next one to come in. Should be sometime before the end of November.
Can’t wait for your context to come out.
I watch many channels on content I'm interested in but I like to find that main go to channel that covers the subject I'm interested the best. You are that channel for this type of content. Thanks.
Always look forward to your videos. I pretty much watch all of them, even if I would never buy that bike. The last few videos have been at your new home and it looks like you have a nice large property and home. Great for a growing family and all of your toys. Enjoy the new location.
Thanks for entertaining us! Have fun with the new bike!
Congrats on the purchase, like your content and looking forward to the testing!
Great stuff thanx!
So much looking forward to this.
The Power Of Dreams ❤
Really looking forward to you and Bens thoughts on this ride in the comming weeks and months. 🙂
dragi IAN , jako mi se svidjaju tvoje recenzije, imas realan pristup i detaljan pristup , nastavi tako , i zelim ti zdravlja i srece i uspeha u svom radu , pozdrav iz Sremske Mitrovice ....
Interesting. Looking forward for upcoming review.
Congrats on the new bike, liking the new studio/set/location!
Keep doing what you do Sir!
Thanks! Will do!
Many eons ago I was a teacher. You make a nice lesson plan. I admire your dedication and in depth reviews. Awesome job.
Thanks for the series. I have an AT 1000cc. But I appreciate learning about its new little brother
We be following the series. I’ve purchased one a few months ago as a second bike for mainly on road fast use. Have quite a few of the extras. No cruise and tubes tyres is a major issue, will be converting the rear to tubeless. Original tyres are shot after only 3k miles. I’ve had to change the rear shock as standard is just not up to the job, the new shock transformed the bike. Looking forward to pushing this bike beyond the limits.
After many years of soul searching and finding the ideal adv bike I ended up selling my 2021 MT09SP to pick up one of these. I felt that the other adv bikes compromise in all other aspects to be good off-road (case in point the T7). The Transalp has good wind protection, comfortable, the engine is exciting, it’s light and flickable (not top heavy at all).
Honda were also very smart with pricing. What’s the point in getting into adventure riding if every bike is priced into the stratosphere. Yes, they do this by making the bike “barebones” but this makes it the ideal platform to turn it into whatever you want it to be. Road tourer? Yes. Canyon scratcher? Hell yeah it’ll do it. Off-road tourer? 100% it’ll do it.
I picked it up and punched out 2500km in absolute comfort (apart from the seat). With some suspension mods, it’ll be just as good as its competitors off road. I’ve already got a YSS cartridge kit and YSS rear shock on order for this bike. It will transform it. If shitty air filter access is the only complaint, then that’s pretty good. Keen to hear your thoughts Ian, you and I share similar opinions with the bikes you review!
Woah, I didn't even know they had units in the US already. Eagerly looking forward to the long term review!
Great first review! I also like your video quality. The lighting is especially good for indoors 🙌🏻 I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
I really look forward to this series as this bike is on my list for my next bike.
Great job as always! Looking forward th series as always.
Great stuff Ian. Looking forward to future episodes.
Thanks Ian. Great job. Good info. God bless. Happy trails.
Yay! Well done Ian, so many reviews on the bike stock but no one I've seen that is doing the upgrades especially the pipe (delCat) and suspension the way we know youre gonna do it. Trust you got some good zzzzz and wishing you a speedy recovery.
Beautiful bike. Kudos to you for putting so much work into your channel. It is appreciated.
My pleasure!
Looking forward to this review as this bike is on my list as a contender for a new bike.
Thanks for another great video. I fround out about your new Transalp from Grace and The Dork in the Road who also got the same. I was thinking about an F750GS, but can't stand the fact that they still don't use inverted forks and now really leaning towards the Transalp as well. Can't wait for your video series. Especially the torture test since I don't think any user is going to attempt that (on purpose). I think that your videos are getting more explicit for each bike you purchase. So now you should really be the preferred address to see a bike review. This might not be The One in all areas, but I feel it could well be one of your top 1 or 2 midsized enduros for travelling on mainly asphalt with the minor gravel. Take care and hope you get well soon Ian.
This should be great to see. Thank Ian for doing these videos!!
My pleasure
looking forward to this!
Excellent Ian, I really enjoyed your long-term test on the Tuareg so I'm happy to see this series (though I was rooting for the Kove because it was a bit more left field)
I'm excited. Use it like a tool and see if you can live with it. Love to see a valve check. Thanks.
I love the "Industry Partners" disclaimer at the beginning! I wish more channels would start doing that.
Looking forward to the rest of this series Ian.
Exaust is slung too low for a ADV bike(at the rear end as well as the front)
I wish they had just made a 750 Africa Twin.
Looking forward to the rest of your review series anyway Ian👍
aww yiss I was waiting for this one too!
As always, great presentation. I am not looking to buy one of these Honda's but it will be nice to get informed on this new product. Ride Safe.
I’ve really been looking forward to your test/review! Thank you
My pleasure!
Best Chanel about video reviews, by far
I have this bike and can’t wait to see what accessories you find that are more accessible
Awesome! I look forward to all your reviews. The upcoming series will be informative and entertaining. I kinda feel the Transalp is a bigger Vstrom 650XT but not quite a 800DE. I know here in Australia Honda tells us they didnt intend this to be an off road machine but rather a tourer. Be intersting to see what this bike can do!
Aussie here..im interested in this bike for riding our long gravel roads in the outback. nothing too serious but just enjoying 'getting out there'
Waiting for part 2…..
Great video!
Looking forward to the rest of the series
That low 1st muffler or CAT hangs very low for an off-road bike.
Blizzard oil sump too. Ugliest OEM sump guard available.
Looking forward to this series.
Really nice work Ian!
No other channel do things like you do!
Now, that's what you call in-depth! 👍🏻
Ohhh mannnn👍👍, popcorn🍿🍿, laptop and YT, can't wait...
What an incredible resource is Big Rock Moto!! There's a good possibility that this machine (or the Suzuki DE800) will be my next bike. Because of Ian, this next purchase will be the most informed I will have ever been before even a test ride. It's a great time in history to be a motorcyclist.
Looking forward to your review videos!
Sounds good, great job Ian.
Get well soon love your reviews
Your attention to detail is what sets you above the rest. Keep it up Ian
Also weigh as many bike as you can it’s gold!
I was one of the voters who voted against the Transalp in both polls because in my eyes it's just a Hornet on stilts and not an ADV.
However, I wish you the best of luck with this series and am looking forward to watching it!
Same, i would have voted the 800DE in a hearthbit, but much like you i'm interested in this serie because of you know, Ian working on it basically 😂
Yes, I would've liked the AT replaced with the DE.
800DE, TransAlp, F900GS.
Those are things I'm seriously interested in and it would be a great comparison. And I am in love with Ian sharing maintenance operations and related engineering views.
Great choice of the color scheme. Exactly what I would select from the options.
It is a nice looking bike. The sump protrusion and the underslung exhaust is the killer for me.
I just purchased one and I am waiting for your review. Thank you
this is some killer content
also can't wait for more info on the 890R
yeeeEEESSSSS! finally :) I was so waiting for this one ❤
looking forward to the upcoming reviews as my TA is supposed to be in towards the end of December!!
