  • The Honda Transalp 750 and Yamaha Tenere 700 are both parallel twin-powered Japanese mid-size ADV bikes. They are both drop dead reliable and both come in right around $10,000 MSRP. Compare Tenere vs Transalp and you'll see a lot of similarities but none of that helps if you're trying to decide between them.
    In this video, I'll run down Honda Transalp 750 vs Yamaha Tenere 700 in terms of actual day to day riding and the experience of owning one. I own both of these ADV bikes and so am lucky enough to be able to compare Tenere 700 vs Transalp 750 side by side in terms of my own personal riding and ownership experience.
    These are two of the best mid-size adventure motorcycles on the market, but in the inevitable Transalp vs Tenere shootout, which bike wins? You'll have to watch to find out.

    I did a 40 minutes test ride on a Transalp in a variety of roads. Not offroad.
    I had two Hondas in the past and I loved them. But the Transalp was just... boring.
    I went to my dealer and took a 3 minutes spin on a Tenere in a closed parking lot. I didn't even ride it in the street.
    I fell in love with it immediately! It felt strong and alive, waiting for me to hit the gas and go see the world.
    My summery in short:
    The Transalp is super efficient. It is a great partner for daily commuting.
    The Tenere is the one that will make you smile. It just wants to take you to your next adventure. That CP2 engine is an amazing gem!
    That's the difference between the two bikes. The spec sheet will never tell the true story!
    The major flaw of the Tenere as mentioned is comfort.
    My two cents: If you ride a lot on paved roads like me buy a Sargent seat. It is a game changer!
    I also replaced the handlebar which was too straight for me and made my wrists hurt. I installed a great Renthal handlebar that solved the problem.
    Now my 2022 Tenere is comfortable for long rides and I am extremely happy with my choice.

    I own a T7. Seeing the Transalp come in at a lower price and have more power and features seems like it would steal a lot of T7 sales. I'd still choose my T7 because of the brand and the proven engine, along with the more simplistic and functional approach - But, the Transalp is one hell of a deal and I'd love to own both too

    I too owned a 22 T7 and own a 24 Transalp. Veteran rider of 50 years and over 300 bikes over the years and you’re comparison is spot on!! Personally I sold the Tenere after I put 700 miles on the Transalp. Know your limits off road on the Transalp and enjoy all day comfort and FUN on road!! Love the Transalp!!     I guess we're all different. I'm 6' 3", 193cms, 100kgms and 73 years old. I've owned over 30 bikes and ridden since I was 15 years old. In the past 20 years I've had an1150gs and later a 2013 Transalp. I have a T7 now. I get no buffeting, just fresh air, and thats mega, a new experience. If I lift the screen on the 13 euro adjusters I get great wind protection for the motorway, no buffeting. Yes, it's tall and you need to be mindful of a top heaviness at walking speeds off piste but the seat for me is the most comfortable of any bike I've ridden in 20 years. Its a function of advancing years no doubt, but the T7 seat does not make my bits go numb after 30 minutes, unlike the other bikes I've mentioned. For me the standard T7 seat is really good and the bike's ergonomics make standing up effortless. Just saying.

      I was very close to getting a T7. I love the simplistic approach and very basic display with easy-to-read numbers without wearing glasses. This impression was part of a multi-bike test ride. I had to stop and really think hard about how much I ride offroad, so... that and the wow- factor-goldilocks-"just right" feel of the Tracer 9GT changed my mind. I really wish I could own both. Prior to the Tracer I had a Super Tenere followed by an Africa Twin so I reckon it was just a case of wanting to change things up abit. There are times when I really miss the adventure bikes.

    I have the t7. If transalp had better looks...say single or double round headlights, retro, I'd totally dig it.

      I would probably buy the transalp for my specific needs, but the T7 is a differently a better looking bike imo

      After 4000 miles on my T7 and the top heaviness of it, I can honestly say it has made me better rider. Plus, this thing can rip for a middle weight and as and old guy (62), I'm totally in love.

      If you know specific aftermarket headlight/fairing for transalp in mind, do share. With other options in the market, I'd buy that house with the cabinets of my liking.

    Both of these are terrific motorcycles, with good capability and Japanese reliability. I was tempted to get the T7 when it came out, but it was really hard to find one and there were a couple things I didn't like (seat, display / electronics, & ability to attach bags & gear). I waited until the Transalp was available and snagged one in October, been very happy with it so far.

      Pretty well my story as well except I didn't get mine until December which is a really bad time to get a new motorbike in Canada. Especially as it's currently -21c here and snowing

      @@116tem Yes, my wife has ridden on the back with me driving. We are both larger people (me - 6', wife - 5'9") and the Transalp did surprisingly well 2 up.

    I was always keeping an eye open for a Tenere to hit my local dealership and it never did…or I was never aware if it did. And then one weekend night two months ago I saw my local dealership was showing a Transalp in stock. I went in on Monday and it was still in the crate. I rode home with it next day and have been incredibly happy. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the Transalp offroad. I dropped the air pressures on my Dunlops to 20lbs and 18” water crossings, mud, dirt, gravel were no problem at all. Maybe I’ll try it with knobbies one day.

    I chose Suzuki Vstrom 800de. very comfortable on the road and I enjoy driving it off-road (800de in offroad is better than the Tenere for me, the T7's high center of gravity bothers me a bit). Among the advantages of the Vstrom I will also mention the fully adjustable suspension front&rear(I re-adjusted the entire suspension for off-road driving), easy access to the air filter and TC that works well in off-road driving(like rally leve 5 in ktm). I considered the 890R but, firstly, it was too expensive, and secondly, I preferred the Japanese reliability (and for the price difference, I left my old Yamaha WR450 to play in more difficult conditions)

      @@thodoris3790 on the contrary, suzuki did a surprisingly good vstrom and honda failed with the transalp (mainly the suspension, access to the filter and the design of the muffler under the engine)

    I have had a T7 and did a BDR on it. I think it rides top heavy and just an ok motor. It does everything well just not that exciting. My new TA feels way more fun to ride and handles better on the road. They are close but for me the Honda motor puts a smile on face fits me better and just more fun to ride. I would ride both before buying they are different for sure. The DORK man knows what's up, great video!!

    I will eventually get myself a T7. Even though the dealer I went to last week had a TA in the show room. One look at that low hanging exhaust made me solidify my decision. I will do a lot of off road too so I think T7 is best choice for me. For now I will keep enjoying my CRF300L to the fullest and gain more riding EXP!

    I have owned a NC750x for 4 years I also owned an Africa twin for three, I rode the Trasnalp when they came out. I now only own a Tenere as I found it a great middle ground to the NC750x and the Africa twin. i found it comfy in all occasions the only issue is lack of fuel range. Great review I appreciate the effort you put into your content.

    Great review Ben, factual, informative and concise. The question I ask when watching these comparos is honesty - how honest are we when we are talking about riding doctrine. For instance, recently went for an 'offroad' camping weekend with a mate. We planned the route to be as much dirt as possible. Even so, it still ended up rhat 55% of the mileage was done on blacktop and 13% of that was highway. People always seem to overstate how much dirt riding they do for some reason. For me, its comfort first, reliability second and functionality third. While I love the Tenere, and I own one, the Transalp would be more than capable for 95% of 'dirt' riders out there and much more comfortable to boot.

      12:01 Sometimes the proportionality is based on time / hours vs miles. An adventure could easily be 60/40 road/dirt for miles and 60/40 dirt/road for hours. It’s interesting that when Ben talk about 51%, he says ‘of your time’
      Whereas you’re thinking miles. Not saying either is right or wrong

    I really like my T7. I’m 6’1” so the weight height isn’t a major issue but the comfort (or lack there of), my goodness. At 230 pounds naked, plus gear and luggage, I’m looking at another $2k-ish for a better seat and suspension to make it comfortable. The vast majority of my riding is gravel FS roads. I’m very tempted to trade the T7 in for a Transalp.

    This was an outstanding review. Nuanced with great, detailed descriptions. (In other words: well said!). I was inches close to buying a Tenere, and if it wasn't for a snafu with my trade-in, I would own one. So, I now have a TransAlp. I love it. It's an outstanding street bike. The quickshifter and cancelling-turn signals are just icing on the cake. No doubt, the Tenere is just a bit sexier with the color scheme and narrow front end. But will that help me with 90% of my riding? Nope. The TransAlp is less cool, but just go for it, because y'all will be so impressed with the smoothness of the engine and the ergonomics are unmatched. I have no idea why Honda did not include a skid plate or any engine guards. Oh well, we'll keep the after-market folks in business. Thank you!

    Thanks for this. I’m very happy with my T7, and to be honest find it comfortable! Aesthetically I prefer the T7, but that’s personal choice. You can otherwise never go wrong with a Honda.

      I'm with you. The seat certainly isn't plush, but I've done 600 mile days and survived just fine. I really like the riding position and the first thing that surprised me riding home from the dealership was how stable it was in the freeway. Also, being able to dial in the adjustable suspension is a big plus.

      No kidding!
      I watched a channel where a guy "reviewed" the Africa Twin DCT, and didn't even skim through the manual because he thinks a bike should be totally "intuitive" regardless of how different it is from common bikes. The dude even commented that he "didn't think he would like" the bike before he ever threw a leg over it. He let the engine chug along in short-shifting Drive mode wanking in ignorance of the two sportier modes and the paddle shifters. It was a bias and ignorance overload. Very different from this very even-handed and objective review. I won't totally call out the channel, but it rymes with paste on blue heels. 😅

    Now that I have ridden and picked up the TAlp, I am more satisfied with my purchase of the Suzuki 800DE, for my type of ADV riding. I agree the TAlp has better wind protection, but I will trade that for the torque of the 800DE. I can put a larger screen on the 800DE, you can't add torque to the TAlp. If you want to see what a stock 800DE can do, just watch OnTheBackWheel. As for reliability, Honda has been slipping and can afford to put out a dud or two. Just research "oil dilution issues", to see how Honda blamed owners. I am a lifelong Honda fan, but the TAlp is a no go for me. Love that Honda is kicking KTM's ass at Dakar, for now. If you're on a road you can't call it off road, it's really that simple. Yes, the TAlp will go off road, just not as well as the T7 or 800DE. BigRockIan already showed how quickly the suspension bottoms out off roading the TAlp, so bad he has already ordered a full suspension replacement. On a brand-new bike, and he doesn't weigh that much. I'm 6'1" 225lbs and have no issue with the suspension on the 800DE except on extreme hits.

    Just watched 3 of your vids......great content! Currently looking at the Transalp & V-Strom 800 DE as a 2nd bike to go with my Harley Ultra Classic. I once owned a KLR 650 and was thinking of just getting a newer one for light off-road getting to fishing holes, mushroom hunting grounds, etc...... then I found these two options and was just like wait.........

    Hey, great review is always. But I have to differ on the t700 comfort issue. I have a 2022 t700 coming from BMW GS and RT's and about 15 other bikes. I actually find the t700 to be quite comfortable on the road and honestly the stock seat is one of the better ones I've experienced. I do use a sheepskin pad for long distance stuff. It's the only motorcycle I've ever owned that has an engine that's just smooth as butter regardless of RPM. Also I find that its handling is neutral and for whatever reason the bike puts a big smile on my face every time I fire it up. And maybe because it has a off-road oriented chassis but the stiffness of the chassis is just really confidence inspiring and fun. My only complaints are the smallish gas tank and the seat height. At 6 ft I'm not crazy about taking it off road because I just worry about dropping it. I've not ridden the Honda and it looks like a great bike but I think you're selling the t700 short in the comfort department. My two cents!

      As a T7 owner, completely agree with your assessment. Like yourself, I’m also 6’ and that certainly aids with confidence having ability to place both feet on ground. I considered replacing seat and had another T7 owner turn me onto mesh seat cushion. Transformed the seat for me and adds airflow. Enjoyed your comments.

    i got into the adv world when ALL the adv bikes had crap suspension. So spending $3k- $6k less on the bike and dealing with shoddy susp kinda makes sense when you think about it. That's more $$ for adventures. Or aftermarket stuff. Which reminds me, something you could have added in your comparo: cost of build. how much replacing the awful seat on the t7 or adding a skidplate to the TA. Beyond that, you're a pro at this. I love your videos! I gotta hit you and Grace up to go riding next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

    Great review. Both are GREAT motorcycles and it just depends on what the majority of your riding will be to decide which one to choose (you make it as simple as that!!)

    Hey Brother. I watch many of your vids and very much appreciate your content. As a tricked out 2022 T7 owner, I recently took advantage of that sweet dorkintheroad discount with Cyclops and had the Pegasus floods and Skene rear lights installed and they are fantastic! Like you had indicated previously, it seemed like others in cars we're even more aware and considerate due to the higher vis.
    Also got to throw a leg over a new Transalp at my local dealership and I couldn't believe the difference between that and my T7 regarding the COG and ease of flat-footing and just moving it around. Just as you said. I need to win the lottery so I can fill the garage with at least one bike from every manufacturer! Thanks again.

    I agree - TRANSALP for me! I'm a 71 year old former racer who started riding at 16 on a new DT-1 in 1969, and having owned 43 different bikes over the years, and having raced on both Team Red and the BluCru, for me it comes down to where I'll be riding it. I tried a Tenere in 2022, and hated it - so tall, so uncomfortable, and I felt it was just plain unappealing. Everything I had seen about the TransAlp and today's comparison report, has me convinced that Honda has the right formula for fun, carefree riding. I will be riding 90% or more on the street, and at my age, no longer bashing through the boonies. The HONDA looks much better too...

    Great comparison. A point often missed is the valve check schedule, until people request a better valve check interval, companies will keep not making it a priority.
    Transalp 750: 24000km Tenere 700: 40000km It's something I didn't like about my Africa Twin. It's a heck of a job if you do it yourself, and if you have it done, it's very expensive. anything under 30000km for these types of bikes, is not great, unless you only ride 5000km a year.

      Agreed. Not only does the longer interval cost less money, it also reduces the chance that your scheduled maintenance coincides with a long trip. I guess you could do the maintenance early before a trip, but that just shortens the interval even further.

    I learned to trust your reviews and the sane no-nonsense way you explain things.
    I own the T7 but would not hesitate to buy the TA for all the same reasons you mentioned except for it being a more cramped bike for longer legged riders.
    I’m pretty sure Seat Concepts will probably fix that soon…😅😅

    I've owned both and I think you are spot on with your definition of both. I myself sold the T7. Had fun with it but was not the tool for the job I was doing.

    Great review as always. For me, having ridden neither (though sat on a few Teneres), the T7 wins simply because it looks (wait, subjectivity?) … it LOOKS 1000 times better!

    Comfort is often very subjective.
    I just watched the video of LonghaulPaul , he rode his tenere T7 170 k miles all on highway.
    He rides 1 k miles per day…..
    he find the T7 comfortable.
    I agree the transalp is more suited for road riding.
    But I think the look of tue T7 is fantastic.
    Anyway great review.

    Great video! As a Transalp owner, and someone who rides with a T7 owner, I completely agree. I love my Transalp but wouldn't be sad if I had a T7. I think what's more of the deciding factor is which one you can actually get your hands on. T7s are impossible to find, at least in Michigan, and I'd imagine the Transalp is hard to find too.

      Fox PowerSports of GR had a T7 on the floor last Friday 2/23/24. Ive been tossing the idea around for a while and have sat on the TA , T7 , Vstrom 800 de, and Tuareg 660. If I wasn't a newer rider I would probably choose the Tuareg. Difficult to choose no doubt, but my local dealer had a TA come in and they beat everyone's prices so I jumped on it.

    Thank you for putting this together, I suspected the results you gave from your previous videos and respect that you don't just say one is better than the other. I they are both great and very close for many riders. I have always like honda ATVs and motorcycles but also have a lot of respect for yamaha. Thank you again for the comparison.

      Bike choice is always so subjective it's hard to say which of two good motorcycles is "better." I just try to give the facts and my experiences and let people decide for themselves.

    Great comparison. Small differences in bikes translate into how much we actually enjoy riding them. That's why our favourite bikes get ridden while others languish in the back of the garage.

    I really like both bikes, for all the reasons you mentioned.
    I’m going with the TransAlp. It will give me the road and touring performance I want.
    I have a Honda CRF300 Rally for any off-road riding I will do. It is an excellent lightweight off-road bike, with the advantage of being street legal.
    I love Honda products, and my local Honda dealership here in Dallas.
    I have bought a number of motorcycles from them, and they give excellent service.

    A perfect summary, thank you! I have ridden both, and for my type of riding (98% road or unpaved road), the Transalp felt much, much better. Mine is white with gold wheels - pity you don't have that option in the USA!

    It's nice to have different bikes for different buyers. T7 will always be a legend. Transalp most likely not. T7 is plenty comfortable esp with riser and lowered, larger footpegs. I've high-centered the T7 several times already. Amazing fun on the street with full exhaust and you look badass doing it. I imagine the target market for the Transalp is older riders.

    Another great vid on 2 awesome bikes. I'm betting it's been asked, but I'd sure like to see you or Ian compare the Transalp to the Africa Twin. You both have owned ATs, so I think that makes you guys more than qualified to make the comparison. Though the AT is a 1000/1100 cc bike, given the modest HP on the AT, I think the bikes are a closer comparison. Regardless, and as always, I appreciate the content!

    Great review, really like the way you described deciding which would be your preference. I'm new to the adv bike world...road bike guy for 55 years. Sold my Valkyrie and after researching some...650 Vstrom a, wire wheels, heated grips, full crash bars set up, givi skid plate, givi airflow shield upgraded seat, shinko 705s, upgraded led headlamps, peg lower kit, fork brace. Love the bike so far, great on pavement, fun on gravel\back roads..done some logging rodes trails..light off road stuff....prob 80\20. Been a Honda guy my whole life..z50, 160, cb750, 1000 interceptor, st1300, two vtx1800s, 3 different Valkyries....so my heart wanted Honda...researching led me to Vstrom and I got a great deal on a low klm bike mostly upgraded and I added a few. Then the transalp came out since. How would the transalp compare to the 650 Vstrom...Id love to here your opinion. Thanks and looking forward..

    Excellent video, straight up delivery! I bought my Tenere slightly used before the Transalp came out . The Sargent seat made it much more comfortable , so long distance travel feels fine.The Transalp appeals to me , but not enough to lay out the extra cash at this point. One observation, I am guessing the ground clearance on the T7 is measured with the skid plate, on the Transalp probably without, so it’s probably a bigger difference in real life when both have a skid plate.

    Awesome straight to the point information. I feel like I could confidently buy the right bike after this. The thing that always plagues me is the used market. You can get a BMW F850GS used for about $10k. You add cruise, tubeless, a few goodies AND about 60lbs. of heft.....Choices are good though!!

    Really excellent review and comparison. I received the first Tenere in Colorado in May of 2021, and have gleefully run it all over the Rockies and Eastern Utah since. But... Like I always do, I have started looking around. My short list includes the Tuareg (which I have ridden) & the Transalp (which I have not). Why am I looking elsewhere? Comfort. I'm a fit 64 and have a long background in off-road riding and Enduro racing, and am not afraid of gnarly terrain, but I'm getting to the point where I will likely be spending more time and more miles touring on pavement. My hesitation in making a change comes from two places: I've made all of the performance mods that can be made to the Tenere, and it is impressive in its' capabilities, and secondly; I'm still in good enough shape to tackle pretty much anything the high Rockies or the vast desert to the west. While I probably won't make this change soon, it's nice to know that mid-weight bikes like the Transalp and others like it are out there.

    Great video Ben. You are a likeable and relatable guy. It's close, but the Tenere wins for me. I like having the ABS off completely (rear & front) off road. There are a few other reasons, but nobody wants to read them lol. I hope you get a chance to do a 1st ride impression of the new 2024 KTM 790 Adventure soon. It's $10,990 price is quite tempting. There is dealer up in Ellensburg WA that has a couple.

    I own a T7 and made more tha 40k Km on it, I never tried a Transalp but I tried some other contenders on the Maxi Enduro market.
    I ride most of the times on the road, but if I had to buy a new bike I still choose the T7, and the reasons are simple:
    - it's reliability is legendary, 100% reliability is impossible but this bike is the closest thing you can have on a motorcycle.
    - it's damn simple, no frill, no cursed electronics that will get crazy and ruin your trip
    - it has the perfect heigh for me with high seat (I recommend Seat Concepts comfort high seat), while most of the bikes on the market are too low
    - the engine is such a pleasure, the perfect balance between power and fun
    - on twisty roads it's agility is something that blows my mind every time I make a trip in the mountains
    - on offroad it makes riding so easy, even if you never rode a bike offroad in your hole life, if you take a T7 you'll feel immediately confident... and it works, it's not only a feeling
    Regarding the road/offroad balance, imho the key for choose one bike or the other is the answer to this question: what is the hardest scenario where you'll find yourself riding?
    If the answer is offroad then the right choice is the T7, and it doesn't matter if you ride offroad once a year or every weekend, but during that single moment it's important to have a bike that will work better for the hardest condition.
    As I said I ride mostly on the road, I'm not of one of those offroad extreme guys that think the T7 is a big motocross bike (and it's not), but when I go offroad it's the hardest and most difficult terrain for me, and I want a bike that will make it easier, the easiest as possible, and the T7 is excellent for that.

    Great Video.
    I'm currently riding a KTM 990, 2009.
    My biggest concern with my 990 is support for parts. Some parts are discontinued & pretty spendy when you do find them, or at least that's what's being said in the FB forums.
    For me, the Tenere is probably the go to as I'd much rather have a bike that I am super confident on off road then visa versa.
    I will definitely ride both before any moves are made.
