  • Dr. McAdams shares both the story of his paper beginning 1974 and today the book ELLEN WHITE & The Historians along with the history and backstories from 1970's and 1980's. Exciting times, with the struggle between the historians, scholars and the White Estate and the church. It's frankly about the same as part of the 1919 Bible Conference.

The youtube algorithm dropped this in my sidebar. Dr Donald McAdams contextualises modern SDA & EGW history in this presentation. This is gold.

This is amazing! I’ve interviewed George Knight, Ron Numbers, Jon Butler, Gil Valentine, Des Ford, Ron Graybill, Matthew Korpman, Bob Brinsmead, Norm Young, and around 80 other sda scholars and academics! And this is in my top 5 most concise and clear presentations of this time period! I’m literally on my second viewing and have written Don and asked if he’d come on my show! I hope I had the correct email! Anyway. Thanks so much for sharing this video! 🎉🎉🎉

Wow. This is gold. I presented Adventist History at our camp meeting last year (2023). Speakers present one day during the week at the workers morning meeting, and I got Wednesday. I spoke on three things. The new books by Gillian Ford, On the Way to Glacier View, Valentine's book, Ostriches and Canaries and your book, Ellen White and the Historians. Seems I remember stumbling on a copy of your paper online some time ago. You know, one of those shared copies that weren't supposed to be released. OPPs. But your book was gold, putting it all into historical context along with the revisions. I remember the one line you mentioned in the paper that explained the whole thing to me, maybe because I resonate with it. Not quoting, you said you were not dealing with her use of sources, but rather, her authority. Bingo. The why of the paper. We as a church was not ready to deal with that then. You were ahead of your time. Thank you for your work. When the real historical Ellen is restored (maybe for the first time), we can safely engage and receive the blessing we have been missing. I do believe God used her to put the wheels on this movement; and maybe there is an under-rated appreciation for her part in this. Maybe it's time for me to do a Karl's Kronicles episode on the book.

We may do an "Adventist Talk" about this book and I was wondering if anyone knows how to contact Dr. McAdams for a comment.

51:15 It is true that the 1884 Great Controversy--originally called THE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY, vol. 4--was not designed for colporteurs. However, there are 1885, 1886, and 1887 printings of the book as a stand-alone volume with the title on the cover, "The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan." There is no mention that it is part of the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY set. I own one printed in 1885, and I show it on my video ""Ellen White Reconsidered" No. 21 - ELLEN WHITE AND THE HUSS MANUSCRIPT."

This is the most dreaded text for Ellen White and the Church. They avoid this at all costs because it points a straight finger at their prophet!

Ellen White: When Jesus said “It is finished”, He basically overstated His work on the cross. His death was NOT an atonement for sins, it only bought everybody a little time (probation) to earn some brownie points which they could present to God at the Investigative Judgement, so people could show why they should qualify to get into heaven.
This is blasphemy. This is a damnable doctrine.

I think that folks forget that prophets are not perfect. Many prophets in the Bible were corrected by God. They made mistakes.

“I write not one thing on my own, but these testimonies are from the rats of light from the throne of God.” (paraphrased). God should NOT be giving out false information to His prophets!

@@19818456 I agree, but you have to understand in that time we didn’t have the same rules of using quotes from other people like we do now and also, she wasn’t trying to hide it. She actually recommended the books that she used as reading and references.
