Back in the day, when the Ocean Dub was still airing on Saturday mornings on WB (I believe that was the network it aired on before Toonami in The States), the sheer level of Vegeta's rage during that scene legitimately terrified younger me. It doesn't bother me anymore, but I still remember feeling nervous about seeing that scene again the second time I watched that episode. So naturally, the way TFS has always portrayed it has really stood out to me.
@@steph.reacts I think it's more that it's kinda quiet compared to the rest of the audio and most people are talking about the last scene still so they hear Trunks talking but are completely drowning out Vegeta's scream which is really a shame since it's a great callback.

I think canonically Trunks' tail was surgical removed at birth. The IRL reason is the shows creator just forgot, he does that a lot.

The color change for Vegeta was at the time Vegeta's color scheme wasn't yet revealed in the manga; for this film its a stylistic choice for Gohan's death / Trunk's transformation.
A fun clue for Piccolo not really being there the whole time was pronouncing the special beam cannon's Japanese name correctly.
Trunks’ transformation is absolutely phenomenal, it’s a shame majority of reactors have to mute the music it makes the scene.

Vegeta's hair was reddish brown the first time he appeared in the anime because at that time, he hadn't appeared in color in the manga (which was mostly black and white), so they painted him the way they wanted. His colors got corrected when he finally got a canon color scheme in the manga.

Just a couple little fun facts to add to your comment.
1. Bulmas hair actually used to be canonically the same lavender color as seen on Trunks.
2. The Kamehameha is not blue, or even yellow. It's actually just white. We got a full color panel in the Frieza fight when Goku uses the Kamehameha and it's just white.
3. Nimbus was never yellow, it was actually purple!

@@xavierlehew6746 Bulma's hair is funny, because Toriyama kept colouring it several colors, going from lavender to blue, some times even silver or turquoise (which the anime used) until he finally set on blue around Battle of Gods.
Weirdly enough, even having different colors, I'm pretty sure the anime kept the dialogue where they say Trunks' hair color came from Bulma lol

The fact that Trunk's timeline came first, means it came before ours, that also means his timeline, from the past, is the original timeline. so the original timeline has all of our heroes dead, that's tragic.
For Vegeta's hair I think it's because the staff didn't know how Vegeta's hair was supposed to look at first so they went with red, then they fixed it cause it was supposed to be black.
But for some reason sometimes it comes back to red/brownish in games and such.
I like to think that his hair is red depending on the planet's atmosphere. Like there's a different tint.

Trunks is going to come back to that same timeline he came from it’s exactly the same there are 4 timelines
1st Timeline (Cell’s timeline) : Trunks defeated the Androids with a device attempts to go to the 2nd timeline to tell them he defeated the androids but gets his time machine high jacked by cell
2nd Timeline (unseen timeline): Trunks gets device goes back to the 1st timeline to defeat androids but never came back to say he won because he got his Time Machine high jacked by cell in the 1st timeline
3rd timeline (History of Trunks timeline): everything the same as the 1st timeline
4th timeline (Main timeline): Trunks goes back in time to a timeline where cell from the 1st timeline was already buried underground before he got there

There is no in Universe reason why Trunks was born without a tail however in an interview series creator Toriyama was asked about Saiyan tails and why they went away, specifically about Goku's tail which he had as a child but not as an adult, and his answer was basically he was confused by pants. I'm serious, he says how he's always thinking about how things are supposed to work, how does he put his pants on? So in the end he decided to get rid of Goku's tail all together.
As for later characters like Gohan, Vegeta and Trunks, Toriyama is notorious for forgetting things so the most likely reason is that he forgot.
There's absolutely a ton of fan speculation on this like having a tail is a recessive trait but again this is only fan speculation.
The manga while having some colour and partial colour chapters is mostly in black and white so when Vegeta was first introduced it was in black and white so the anime staff didn't know what colour his hair would be so Vegeta's hair and armour colour are wrong for those very early episodes.
This is quite common as Toriyama is very inconsistant with colours the most famous being Bulma's hair which in the first chapter was blue but in all future chapters is purple which is why Trunks' hair is purple, for now anyway. In the anime they just went with the blue hair as she was drawn in the first chapter.
Not sure how TFS have this labelled but common misconception the Trunks Special is not a movie. Dragon Ball has plenty of movies, released in theatres and everything. This is a TV Special, aired on TV as special double length episode with ad breaks and bumpers for ad breaks so definitely not a movie.
Pretty sure it's confirmed that he forgot. Same with Goten and Kid Trunks. He just forgot. Same with the whole S-Cells thing with Goten and Trunks achieving super saiyan so easily, though I think that was just bad power scaling like the egregious shit we see in Super to justify characters being relevant (Krillin sparring with Goku in Blue, Kefla and Caulifla gettin SS 2 in moments/ the tingly feeling in the spine meme/ Master Roshi weaving JIREN in the manga)
@@MrMeddyman There are so many comments from interviews with Toriyama, I'm pretty sure he just makes it up on the spot.
Once Goku became an adult his tail was gone forever and for future Saiyan characters they either only had a tail for a short while or not at all. It seems to me most likely that Toriyama got tired of drawing them and then forgot about them completely, or he got confused by pants as he said in the interview.
i think they pretty much cut the tails off off screen to avoid oozaru situations from the kids as they saw how devastating it was from Vegeta and Gohan in the saiyan saga and Goku in the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai
Same with the Bardock Specials.

Apparently the anime writers didn’t know what color vegeta’s hair actually was. It wasn’t quite finalised. This actually happened to bulma ironically, with her original hair being lavender in the manga but made blue in the anime. However they decided to keep that
Bulma's hair was torquoise (closer to green) in the anime. Only got blue around Battle of the Gods.
And the anime made her hair torquoise because the shonen jump cover had her with turquoise hair.
Toriyama was never consistent with her hair color actually, it shifted from blue to purple (some times even blonde or silver) a lot, and the same happened with Trunks, until in Battle of Gods they settled with blue.
That was a great reaction and fun premier. Also Steph, I don't know if you had to cut it or missed it. For future movies watch the credits because there's always something either during or after the credits. Keep up the great work Steph ❤

Irl answer toriyama got tired of drawing the tails, so he stopped doing it. In lore, apparently tails are a recessivec trait in half-saiyans.

So with Gohan's muscle mass I would even assume double the weight.
The whole point of Gohan hearing Piccolo is supposed to tell us he went crazy. Piccolo died 14 years ago.

From what I heard, the Reason for Vegita’s red hair was a animation error.
The original manga was in black and white, so the animators made his hair red, and then where corrected (and fixed it) after his first appearance
I can’t confirm if that’s actually true, but it’s what I’ve always heard
The time travel stuff is complicated indeed haha, but long story short there are different timelines and while Trunks did create another one when going back to save Goku, when he leaves, he will come back to his own universe because that's the one his time machine is linked to, if it makes sense

She uses it routinely to keep them inactive so bad people can't use them. It just happens that her wishes are all cosmetics.
One of the things I like about this episode is that they used a lot of Doctor Who references, the music, the sound of the TARDIS when the time machine disappears, and the end credits. Speaking of which, there was a post credit scene with Roshi, Oolong, and Puar, not relevant, though

DBZA canon says that Android 17 was blonde originally but he dyed his hair. So in original canon, Toriyama forgot Saiyans had tails so he said Trunks had it removed very early on, and afterwards Toriyama went to say that the tails are a recessive trait which means they won't be appearing in hybrid saiyans (also he found the tails hard to draw). The reason why Gohan can "hear" Piccolo is that it's actually all in his mind. The major hint is that Piccolo can properly pronounce Makankosappo which DBZA canon, Piccolo always have trouble pronouncing it. You missed the Dragon Ball Super reference when Android 17 said he wanted to be a park ranger. Vegeta's hair was red because manga was printed in black and white and they hadn't decided what colour his hair was so they made it red that one episode before they finally decided. Multiverse theory is that when you back in time, you travel back to a child universe which won't affect your universe (you basically come back to your own universe as if nothing happened). You are thinking of the branching theory which when he changes the past, he comes back to a whole new timeline which branched off of that timeline.
You are also one movie before you are all "caught up". Return of Cooler.

In real life the creator just forgot about the tails after awhile. In universe I just assumed they were removed to prevent the monkey transformation.
Vegeta’s hair being red was an animation mistake. The original manga panels were black and white and the animators had to guess at the colors. These things happened in the pre internet days.

He was 13 in "History of Trunks", when he met the Z-Fighters in the present he was in his 20`s and 30`s, of course being half-Saiyan like Gohan and Goten who are the best friends of his Future and Present Selves respectively he ages slower than other Earthlings who don`t have Saiyan blood.
At the ending of the season Bulma saw Goku giant Monkey form so she likely had it removed every time regrew. As for Goku, as he was completely kept in the dark about it because Bulma and rest don’t want him get hurt knowing in his transformation that he killed his adopted Grandpa Gohan
Trunk's transformation is my favorite in canon and in DBZA.
The funny thing about that park ranger bit with Android 17 is that he actually ends up being a Park Ranger in Dragon Ball Super.
I think the abridged series actually predicted that, which is neat.

They most likely cut Trunks' tail off when he was a baby. Everybody learned their lesson by this time.
But it's more likely that Toriyama just forgot that they had tails. He's always forgetting about things.
This is my preferred take for the in-universe reason, whatever the meta reason might be. Bulma would know well enough that the tail wasn't worth keeping, between the Ozaru, and the affect that it had when held. She had no reason to let Trunks keep his tail, especially with Vegeta out of the picture.
It's kind of a shame that TFS never had Vegeta bring Trunks' missing tail up. After all, he has such pride in the Saiyans that he would probably see a missing tail as a sign of weakness, despite the fact that he had already lost his own. However, even his own missing limb could be justified to him by the fact that he lost in combat, rather than it being removed without any fuss - or worse, the idea that any child of his had been born _without_ one. The missing tail could have given another facet for Vegeta's animosity towards Trunks, and it would have been completely in character for him.
@johns6014 when Vegeta saw Goku go supersayan the whole tail/Ozaru thing kind of lost his novelty. At some point he didn't care about that. And there's some fan theory that says you're more likely to go supersayan if you cut your tail off.
@@marcellomercuri5619I could almost see Toriyama canonizing that theory about tail-less saiyans being more likely to be able to become a super saiyan, just to further justify his decision to remove the tails.
It kind of works in a Sharingan-esque kind of way too, I suppose. On one hand, it would be a symbolic gesture to sacrifice the tail, which was, itself, a key to a greater power for them, and on the other hand, any amount of pressure on the tail caused bodily weakness. Sure, that could be trained out, but it could also be construed that atmospheric pressure was enough to hamper even those who had trained that particular weakness out, since it wouldn't be so much as outright removing the draining effects, as it would be to work through them and force the body to remain at it's theoretical "peak". Well, that "peak" would be what they had to compare it to, which would be when their tail didn't have any pressure on it at all, aside from atmospheric pressure. It would still be a limiter, and once you remove that limiter, you can unlock higher levels of potential.
Originally Vegeta's hair was red because the manga that they sent over to the animators was in black and white and they didn't realize at All sayiens have black hair.

It`s very inconsistent but basically the Super Saiyan forms started out as an extension of the Oozaru(Great Ape) forms but eventually became independent of the Oozaru forms(Aside from Dragon Ball GT with Baby Vegeta and very briefly Super Saiyan 4 Goku.)so the Super Saiyan forms can happen at a sufficient level of stress even if a Saiyan or half-Saiyan no longer has a tail. The Oozaru form only happens when a Saiyan with a tail is exposed to the full moon.(It`s the Saiyan equivalent of lycanthropy in other words.)
I think it was confirmed that bulma had trunks' tail removed right away to get rid of a giant monkey that would have emerged if she didn't

I used to really hate the Cyborgs back in the day..not just in Trunks Timeline..but TFS made them kinda relatable and cool, even the "evil versions" of them. Maybe it comes from Android 16 doesn't exsit in this timeline so they don't had a "bigger brother" to watch them..and nobody slaps their shit ^^

The Cyborgs were only using 50% of their power when they were beating up Gohan (17 stated in original). When 17 finally used 100% he killed Gohan.

Well, the manga is in black and white, so the anime didn't always know what color to use, and that's why Vegeta's hair was red at first I think? Maybe they just wanted to use a different color at first or didn't care
I know for SURE this affected bulma, in the manga, on colors pages, bulmas hair is purple, like trunks, but when they started the anime, they chose blue instead

About the movies, you still have Revenge of Cooler 2, Super Android 13 and Broly. There are some more, but those 3 fit into this saga's time-line.

The answer about Trunks tail is left up to interpretation because the show runner just forgot that he should’ve had one. The most accepted is that Bulma knows it would’ve changed him into a great ape and had it removed.

Burma knew gokus tail transformed him when he was a kid. So trunks had his removed like goku did.

Manga is black and white so Vegeta's hair color was a work-in-progress or mistake until you they got it finalized later on Earth. Same in the Lord Slug movie, the actual first non-canon appearance of Super Saiyan, that has Goku's hair black and his eye's whited out as a preliminary design as the look wasn't finalized.

The better question is why has Dragon Ball been trying to erase Vegeta's short king status? He's basically almost as tall as Goku in Super. Definitely taller than Bulma.
As per the Reddish-Brown... Some people explain it away with the planet/light giving it more of a reddish look, but I think they just hadn't settled on the full black design.

Bulma knows firsthand what happens when Saiyans with tails look at the moon, she was almost killed when Goku did it. So I would assume she'd have Trunks snipped.
But the real answer is Toriyama forgot to give him a tail, didn't like the extra work it took to draw them.
Tbh, tails in humanoids are really a pain to draw.
In the shorts that TFS made after they finished the Cell Saga, it was mentioned by Vegeta that Trunks was born with a tail, but Bulma had it removed shortly after he was born.

8:00 The reason Trunks didn’t get a tail is because when saiyans reach a strong enough power level “they don’t need tails anymore”. So if they get their tail cut off and they have a high enough power level, it won’t grow back like Gohan’s tail did when Piccolo cut it off while he was a great ape. Their offspring in turn, won’t be born with one.
Could have just told her the real reason and say Toriyama forgot and was also didn't even like drawing the tails. The tails were introduced as their greatest source of power so it makes no sense a saiyan strength can grow to the point the tail becomes useless instead of it amplifying their power.

The Vegita hair color decision didn't actually come until after that was made and as far as I know they were going for like a Reddish Brown because he is evil so they were using that tone and then after it was changed to black and the first episode is just a one off. Literally just not having that talk before they aired the episode and Vegita had only been in black and white comic form previously to that.
