      @zamoo ... Mondo broke the outdoor record in Rome by his 6,15 m. His indoor record in Polen 6,17 and 6,18 in Scotland. All of those records in 2020!

      When I pole vaulted as a kid the world record was always considered the highest outdoor jump. I have to admit I'm not sure how its viewed today, the sport has changed quite a bit, with new venues and types of events beyond traditional meets. He's surpassed both and is certainly amazing to watch. Mondo has a completely different frame from that of Bubka, one wonders how much the physics of the equipment has changed between the two eras.

      I have just rewatched the 6.18 jump, he had enough clearance that with the exact same jump he could have done something in the 6.20 to 6.25 range.
      Now he seems just like Sergei B in his heydays, adding one cm each time a meet organizer had a world record bonus. :-)

    Well done TODAY Mondo. 6.17 WR. I watched that first, then it was fascinating to watch this. He doesn't seem to muscularly bend the pole, but every part of him knows where the bar is and wraps around it beautifully and quickly. Muscle memory I guess and practising since a young child. I don't know a lot about field sports, but I assume this is considered equal to an outdoor WR. A new era. A new hero.

    Look at Renaud Lavillene and Mondo side by side and their bodies are almost indistinguishable. It's the new standard for pole vaulting body type, unlike the muscle bound vaulters of earlier days. The new guys have a tremendous power to light body weight ratio allowing them to push a lean physique over amazing heights. Obviously, they are also great athletes. Mondo comes from a family of athletes. His father was an outstanding pole vaulter from Lafayette, Louisiana. His mother was a tremendous volleyball player from Sweden. His brother, Antoine is a baseball player who starred at Louisiana State University's top ranked college team. Mondo was also an excellent soccer and baseball player before choosing the sport he was made for. This kid has only just started with his greatness.

    • @p52457
      @p52457 Před 4 lety +1

      There is no limit on pole length. Never has been. His pole is 5.10 meters. His upper hand is near but not at the top. His net clearance is well over 4ft. higher than where he is holding - this is due to a composite vaulting pole. To use a longer pole requires him to grow taller or run faster. He is arguably the fastest pole vaulter in history having run a 10.56 100 meters in high school. And superior upper body strength is required too plus so much more. He's got it all.

      @@markhuru There are several manufactures of vaulting poles. The composites are lighter than fiberglass only and you hit the nail on the head regarding technology is improving. Women today are vaulting close to one foot higher than the best male that used the aluminum pole ( it was called Gill VaultMaster ) . Don Bragg vaulted 15-9 as I recall and he was clearly the best on a metal pole. With fiberglass and the introduction of composites it improves over 4 ft. since 1962. Look at golf clubs and fishing rods - wow have they changed. I'm not an expert on this stuff- just old.
