- Tonight for tea I am making a traditional beef hotpot! This is essentially just a beef stew with layered potato top :) It is absolutely delicious and perfect for this time of year! Ingredients and method below if you want to give this a go.....

Shopping List:
Half a pound of braising/stewing steak
Half a kilo of sliced potatoes (really depends on the size of dish you're using!)
Two diced onions
two or three chopped carrots
A pint of beef stock
A tablespoon of plain (all purpose) flour
a teaspoon of Thyme
Salt & pepper to taste
____________________________________________________________________
Let's Cook!
Set your Oven to gas mark 3 (or equivalent for electric)
Get your oil hot and brown your beef
add your salt, pepper & thyme once browned
Remove your beef from the pan and set aside
Add a knob of butter to your pan, then the onion....cook until translucent and then add your carrots. Cook for another few minutes.
add your flour and mix thoroughly!
Add in your beef stock and stir in until thickened
Add your beef back to the pan and mix everything together.
Transfer your mixture to an ovenproof dish.
Layer your slices of potato on the top....add some knobs of butter.
cover with foil (or a lid if you have one!)
Cook for 50 minutes.....remove your foil or lid and cook for a further 20-25 minutes to crisp up :)
Enjoy! x

Thanks for dropping by guys :) x
You had me at the hotpot! My parents are first generation Canadians of British heritage. I grew up on a diet that was heavily British based. Love British food!!!❤❤❤
Clear , concise, and to the point...Many Thanks from an old boy now on his own .
You sound just like my Mum (God rest her soul) with your little giggles haha. She also raised us on amazing food like this, but never shared her recipes! So thank you for making this video so I can finally make it! xxx
Aw that's lovely Chrissie :) Give it a go...
May she rest in dear peace and always be with u I hope the food went well and I'm dire she's very proud that u decided to make it after her ur amaxng and so strong I just wanted to say xxxx
Down to earth cooking! From a down to earth lady! Love these videos!
For extra flavour add a dessert spoon of redcurrant jelly and a good few dashes of worcestershire sauce.
😋
Yum, I used to make it like that Knappa, nice on the pallet, though I liked adding Pepper instead of Redcurrant Jelly. It was my mum who liked the redcurrant.
Love this kind of warm food especially around autumn/winter time when its raining.
Big Big Thank you!... I made your Beef Hotpot today... it was gorgeous, and very easy to do! I did deviate a little out of necessity, I had an extra 45 minutes simmering in the pan to reduce and thicken the stock before transferring it to the oven dish (it just looked too thin) and I added a splash of Worcester sauce just for good measure at the same time.
Baked a couple of part baked rolls during the last couple of minutes in the oven...
it was “amazing” just so warm and tasty on a cold November evening, I have honestly never tried cooking anything like this before so to get such a great result on my first ever attempt is a credit to you
I am now subscribed to your channel and looking for my next recipe.. that home made minestrone soup looks like a great candidate for my next project!
Thank you so much. I've had beef stew plenty of times before but never with potatoes baked on top. That really turns it into something special!
Thank you ☺️ Being in self quarantine and trying to think of different meals to make while using the items you already have in your pantry was getting a little mind numbing. This recipe is perfect.
Another great one will be making it tomorrow. Thank you.
Omygod thank u for making this so much for the easy steps!! Been looking everywhere for an easy way to make this!! Thank u!!!
You're very welcome Hanna :) x
Know what? I might just sneak in a glug or two of red wine to this stew. The potato topping is very clever!
Oh that sounds fab John! :)
Steam is fine helps to guage the heat. Good that you voice over. Makes it easy to follow
I made this tonight and it was delicious. Thanks for the recipe and a very entertaining video!

Thank you for this beautiful presentation. I ate this Irish stew it used to be very tasty and now I want to repeat it. I don't know how make it because I ate it in a restaurant. Interesting recipe. Thank you very much for this presentation.
Nice.Hearty food for this time of year.I must try and remember to buy a slow cooker at some point would be ideal to come home from work and your meals all ready to sit down to.
I love my slow cooker Paul :) brilliant for days where you're busy or going to be out.....throw everything in and it's ready tout out when you get back! Nice to see you again.
Hi What's For Tea, love this receipe and video as I have been searching for a simple, authentic one where the video shows a deliciously browned pototoe top. So many vids show a bland not properly browned ingredients. So thank you - will definitely be holding on to this receipe until winter returns or we get a colder summer period.
Aw thanks :) It is a nice little recipe....love the combination of meat & potatoes! A classic combination which is hard to beat
I am sorry i watched your vlogs as you made me so hungry.your recipes look so delicious.thanks for sharing .tina ireland
I usually make beef stew with potatoes in the slow cooker I cut the potatoes small I made a pork stew the other day and the potatoes began to fall it was so tasty mum used to make a good stew with potatoes in she stewed her beef fist in pan with onions salt and pepper and when the meat was tender she put the beef in a dish and just put a bit of the meat juice in the pan and then put potatoes in it and cooked it in oven u asked her why so little juice from meat she said cos the potatoes make water and then put a crust on she made it in to hot pot it was so so tasty I've got some beef in freezer I think I'll make hot pot this week I can always freeze what's left over that's what I do with cottage pie some how it tastes nicer when its left overs and been frozen to night we are having omelette s fir tea in the omelette maker i bought the other day love fran xxx

I need a pork chop hot pot once just from my head because I needed to make something and there wasn't a lot in the house. It was quite nice! :-) I was asked to make it again.
That looks very yummy! I will try it.
Wow Love your Cooking
So so good looking, wish that I could have some
Give it a go Tricia :) It's really easy to make!
Thanks dear.. Looks so yummy ❤️👌😋
I always thought suet or lard was what made hot pot!
This is real food! The stuff you can put together from a handful of simple available ingredients. Homely, tasty , nutritious well balanced family nosh. Posh nosh, in petit portions that's been over handled, processed and stacked in the centre of a huge white porcelain plate then drizzled with a teaspoon of "jus" (whatever that is!) and smeared with "pea foam" (whatever that is!) .....isn't for me! This is healthy, hearty food that, sadly ,can't be found on restaurant menus. So....it's great to know how to make unpretentious meals for yourself and for the ones you love. The accent of the presenter is as wholesome as the food she cooks. Well done!
Lovely 😋😋😋
My mouth is watering just watching this! I can't wait to make it!
Well here it is two years later, and with this covid thing, everyone I know, texting or calling.."I'm making comfort food"... and if your not, I feel sorry for you. This dish is universal, but the baking and sliced potatoes on top. 😋 Guess what's for supper in Airzona, USA. 💞
In sausage along with you said cauliflower when it was broccoli 👍 lol
Can You do This Recipe In,A Crock Pot Also Hun? Looks Delicious xx
Hi Carmen....yes of course :) would probably be nicer too x

It's super tasty Linda :)
This is the best bs hotpot.
Hello, what did you set your oven to please? Normal or fan assisted and on what number please? Love how easy you’ve made this look I can’t wait to cook it for my family x
Hi Lynsey :) I have a gas cooker so I usually cook mine at gas 6. But if you have an electric stove, then it would be around 200c/400f. let me know how it goes.
When you see meat stick like you do here, leave it when it's ready itcwill release its self , people think that it will burn itcwont. The burs that burn are the little bits that you create by trying to free the meat,
Have you ever baked whole potatoes then sliced to shorten cooking time ?
What temperature is the oven ?
I think the fog makes me want to eat it even more. It’s almost like I’m trying to smell it thru my screen. 😭
How much stock do you put in
So, wait, is that TWO pints of beef stock?
Did I miss the temp for the oven?
a Braw tea that missus
This one definitely needs mushrooms!
Gary Boyd hotpot doesn’t have mushrooms 🍄
@@rusticcheese712 In my world it does.
Gary Boyd weirdo
I. Grew up on hot pot
How many people does this feed?
Camara far to close for this one
No frozen peas in it?! This is obviously a conservative version :)
You flour the veg instead of the meat? Interesting 🤔
Half a pound? 50p? Straight on to another video.
