If I’ve got it right, the Bournemouth game was our 50th of the season! If you include the Lille away game as a loss (even though we progressed). We’ve lost 10 games in all comps. So 20%. Meaning we’ve won or drawn 80% of our games this season (& only 7 draws). With the injuries we’ve had it puts into perspective just how good this team actually is.
Totally agree with John’s comments on 1897 group. I sat in P block on Saturday and having them to our right was great. Having gone to Lille and witnessed how their fans have different sections, Villa need to support this initiative. With CL football on the horizon anything that makes VP more intimidating for opposition has to be nurtured. All credit to the 1897 group 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I’ve sat in the holt for many years. And I was like this 1897 group is great because I was surprised when other parts of the stadium were starting g chants.. keep up the good work guys see you for Chelsea guys. We will sing our hearts out all over again

On a recent podcast, I said that this is the best position that I've seen Villa in. Previous good positions have always been scuppered by off the field back ground issues, especially when Deadly Doug was in charge. That's just not going to happen this time. We're all confident of that!
In purely footballing terms we played some great football under Tony Barton ( which was really Ron Saunders' team), Big Ron and Brian Little. The latter 2 were often good tactically as well. Watch the '92 3-1 league Cup final win against Man Utd as an example.
This team is comparable to those for me but may go on to becomes better if they maintain their current consistency of performance and mentality. They are a work in progress and so still improving...

I couldn’t get the match so listened to the audio commentary on the Villa app. I don’t know if it’s related to the 1897 group, but the Villa singing sounded louder than usual (comparing to audio and tv for home games.) and the flags looked great, keep it up!

Im with John on Garde. I've always thought he was sold a lie when he came in and it was just wrong person, wrong time. Always felt like there was something there, which maybe would've thrived in the current villa situation. The other 3 would drag us down for sure.

I have a nagging feeling that the loss to Man Utd on St Stephens day may come back to haunt Villa.

It does feel like the Chelsea game is shaping up to be the Brighton game from last season. Yes, Spurs will have 3 in hand. But if we win it's a 9 point gap - which means Spurs off the bat MUST beat one of Arsenal, Chelsea away, Liverpool away, City, and win the other 2 (which they will). Now, I think they may well win one of those, but even that won't get them above us because of the goal difference.
Best season in living memory for me (I was 5 in 92/93!). It's astonishing what this team are doing and we absolutely do not get the credit for it. We've had injuries to rival any other team. 15 points off the 'big 6' including Arsenal home and away. European semi final - with a far harder run than what West Ham had to deal with.
Just got to sit back and enjoy and appreciate what we're watching, because it's special.

For me no Villa team can surpass the early 80's team of Mortimer Cowans Morley Shaw...i have been watching weekly Villa title winning season on ITV4's Big Match Revisited..but this lot are as least as good as any era since
Spurs face sides that are battling for promotion and relegation points. Whereas, Villa only face Liverpool needing title points. Also Villa's hardest matches are at home ..... so top 4 looks promising
It depends who wins the league, if city win sir UNI will win it but if 1 of the other 2 win they'll win it even though Sir Uni should win either way!
I feel like the Toney v Watkins thing is only talked about for clicks and engagement. If England take 3 strikers in the summer (which I think we will), it's not a conversation and if we only take 2, it's a no brainer that it's Kane and Watkins. The "debate" has been completely manufactured.
what if solanke get another4-5 goals ?, under a different manager i would say Watkins is a dead cert, but we all know Southgate hates villa
@stephen67burt Solanke is a more interesting debate, to be fair. I think the fact Southgate hasn't picked him already counts against him though. Much as Southgate does apparently hate Villa, he does like to stick with what he knows.
Name a better striker in world football than Ollie Watkins.. Kane perhaps but that would be it. I wouldn't take Haaland over him as Ollies overall game is vastly superior, we are so lucky to have him. UTV

So odd that the narrative is “Toney is more of a like-4-like player for Kane. He drops in and links up play, and Watkins just runs channels”. It’s just not true any more for anyone who bothers watching. He’s a complete number 9 now and offers everything. The Toney love-in is just so misplaced, and the England talk shouldn’t be a debate at all.
Ollie will finish on 22+ goals and 15+ assists in the Premier League alone this season, and will probably top the table for both metrics, only ever done by Kane and Henry once each. I still don’t expect the casuals to give him the respect he deserves, but that’s just fine with me. 😊

By the time Spurs play their north London Derby we could potentially be nine points clear with a better goal difference, that’s crazy.
Being at the game yesterday seeing Super Tommy Johnson & them John Gregory (my favourite Villa gaffer) playing the guitar on stage it just felt like something is bubbling & something special is happening at the villa, quite similar to the 18/19 playoff season.
Fair comment on 1897 group. I applaud what they are trying to do but would dislike it if it turned into what I see as the “fake” Ultras we see at places like Palace.
