How to camouflage your truck or jeep using spray paint

- In this video I show you how to paint your vehicle camoflage with spray paint. The video includes things you need, what to do, and how to do it as well as some tips I've learned along the way.
Prep time: 1 hour - several days?
- gather plants (preferably from a forest)
- buy regular spray paint and automotive finish spray paint + other supplies shown in the video
- wash your truck
Things you need:
- spray paint in nature color: at least 2 shades of green and 2 shades of brown, but the more colors you have, the better. For example dark brown, medium brown, beige, caramel, dark green, light green, black
- automotive finish clear coat spray paint. You can find them in autopart stores. If your vehicle is white and want to try what I did, also buy automotive quality white paint. I used "universal white" and it worked. If your vehicle is another color and you can find the matching color, great.
- scissors, tape, table, additional surface to try out the paint, paint brushes just in case you need to fix small mistakes, netting from the bag on onions (grocery store), plastic gloves and face mask (optional)
Step 1: wash your vehicle
Step 2. tape up or remove areas you don't want painted.
I recommend using a horizontal surface, for example, hood or the tailgate (remove it and lay it down)
You might want to try out a smaller area first like I did. I painted the 2 mirrors and waited a few months to see if the paint scratches off or chips away
Step 3: try out the plants and the paint on a separate area (cardboard box, even newspaper)
Step 4. base coat: you can paint the whole area with one color but it can be several colors as long as it's completely covered.
Step 5. paint over the plants, make sure the pain is always dry before you paint over it.
Watch the video to see I reversed the look and used white paint
Step 6: use several layers of clear coat. You can add just 1 or 2 layers for no, another one in a day or so. As maintenance, you should add more layers in a few months.
Tips:
- try to do this outside - better ventilation
- make sure it's not windy. If wind picks up, stop.
- use fresh, live plants. If they're dried out they won't lie flat ad / or they will break apart. You can keep them fresh by immersing them in water (completely immerse. My plants stayed fresh for a week.
- the more layers you make, the better it is
- first it might look kinda messed up, keep going by adding more layers.
- try out the paint first and only use new paint. Old paint can be uneven, leave speckles (even if you shake them up) and drop big drops of paint (mine did)
- use the top coat lightly otherwise the surface will be bumpy. Mine is bumpy here and there and it's ok, but you might want to avoid it.
- if you mess up and area, wait for it to dry and then simply pain over it.

Loved Your Camo job on the car, learnt alot. Also nice change, to watch a beautiful woman who knows what she's doing, instead of a wrinkle faced man😊 👍.

Loving your onion bag effect baby ....seems to give a round but standing out effect if you get my drift....you seemed to get a nice snowy effect on your trial.....I thought it looked good even tho' you said it was not right. Brilliant job again there gal, luv it.
Thank you! That onion bag trick is still one of my favorites.
I was so happy when the music finally stopped.
Well, would complete silence have been better? 😆 I actually thought this music was kinda cool. Anyways, thanks for watching! What did you think of the paint job? Did that suck, too?
@@Huntress308 I didn't say it "sucked"...as you so eloquently put it. Yes, I watched the entire video. I was amazed at how long it took. I wanted to do this to my entire truck, but now I've realized that it would take far longer than I'm willing to give it.
Oh well thank you! I add the music when I show the process sped up, other wise I think it would be boring lol.
I did make another video painting a feed truck. It was only the cab, it was pretty big and took me 2 shorts days. It didn't have the rest of the body.
So if you're thinking about doing a pick up truck, sanding and taping everything up and paint ting could be done in 8-10 hours, possibly more if it's your first time. If you use pain that already has the primer, you save 1 step (45 minutes)
Here is the link to that video, if you'd like to see it (it does have music though)
At the end I talk about how long it took, how it could be done in one day or 2 days
czcams.com/video/pBro06PCdSc/video.html
@@Huntress308 Thanks for sharing the link. Just to be clear, having music is a nice enough idea...I personally that particular song as delightful as Rimsky Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee". Perhaps others liked it. At the end of the day, it's your video. You should choose whatever music, or lack thereof, that you like. Thanks again for providing a great instructional video. And by the way, your finished product looks great.
Thank you !!
Love 💘it paint job looks good to me 🙂😎
Thank you !
Very nice video, and very good explaining. Good job, I liked it. Keep up the good work my friend.
Thank you so much!

Thank you for watching!
Great video and great paint job. I’ve painted several rifles and ammo cans, I used the Rustoleum camo spray paint. Every single time, the dark brown seemed to spit instead of spray. Each camo job was a year or so apart so I know the paint was different production lots. The black, green, tan Rustoleum worked fine. Just my experience.
Wrangler Man thank you! I’ve notice the different colors worked differently but not sure I’d be side some were different brands and / or some were brand new and some old or ever older. I only realized now when I did this that it makes a difference. I would definitely get the same brand and all brand new paint if I did this again.
I just made all the camo disapeear lol . Just uploaded a new video doing that, when you have time, please check it out and let me know what you think

très joli camouflage, bonjour de France
nice job well done.. subbed
Thank you!
Very nice looking paint job. How has it stood up to the elements over the last two years?
Thank you so much! Actually I repainted everything to white and traded it in for a bigger truck in March 2020. But until then it held up very nicely.
I actually made a video about how I restored it to original, it's in the same playlist if you're interested watching it.
Nice job.. Black is mandatory for camo. It creates shadows and depth. You can use fake foliage to for patterns. Anything that lays flat works best!
Brad Rheinheimer thank you
If you use matte black, let it be you last paint and use it sparingly. If you carefully observe nature, black is a rare color...even shadows take on some color!
This is such a fascinating process! Are you gonna camo the whole truck?
Joe Henkel thank you. I think I will just keep it the way it is, maybe do some designs on the hood. It's a lot harder to do this vertically so I don't want to mess up the sides lol.
@@Huntress308 Gotcha. It looks good how you have it!
I actually made the truck go back to white, just now. It was getting scratched up, because I'm very rough on my truck, backing up into all kinds of bushes lol. So now it's as good as new. I did a video about that, just uploaded it, when you have time, please check it out and let me know what you think
Nice I have xj jeep I painted army green. It's time to camo it coming at u from United states south Carolina..
Thank you! You're going to have so much fun! There are so many patterns to choose from. I ran out of things to paint haha
@@Huntress308 Lol u can come paint mine lol

Hot, nice work ;)
Thank you 😊
Muy bueno.estoy por hacer algo asi y no hay muchos videos
❤️👍
beautiful made! thanks for that well made lesson. how many cans did you need for yor car?
Thank you! Honestly I don't remember exactly, what I do remember is that I basically needed 1 can for each color and I had some left over. I needed a few cams of the clear coat, those go very quickly as you need several coats.
It's also good to go back later and spray more clear coat, like after a month and every once In a while.
Thx!🙂
Donavan La Fontsee I would say you don't have to sand it but you can. But definitely use a primer! I didn't use it this first time and should have.
If your paint is uneven due to scratches, etc, I would definitely sand it. And then prime it.
Hi. Just wanted to let you know, i camo painted a feed truck 😊 with new designs. It also includes how much the total cost was and how long it took Check it out if you have time czcams.com/video/pBro06PCdSc/video.html
Anywayz good job
Thank you !
👏🍀
Cutie with an accent.
😊
If u use the 2 n 1 Rustoleum Paint u must use 2 n 1 Rustoleum Clear or the paint will crumble when u use Enamel Clear (Experience)
Thank you for your suggestion. I didn't find that to be true in my experience though. I used automotive clear coat so that it's better protected and it worked
Hi. Just wanted to let you know, i camo painted a feed truck 😊 with new designs. Check it out if you have time czcams.com/video/pBro06PCdSc/video.html
That wrinkling is called orange peel....it is often caused by an incompatibility between your paints. I suspect you have one paint that is not compatible with your top clear coat. I had this happen on one of the guns that I painted. A brown that was not marked as camo paint. I did not want to strip it and redo it, so before I sprayed the second top coat, it let it dry several days and the wrinkles laid back down. The second top coat did not cause that problem, I think, because once it dried well, it was sealed off to the solvent in the second coat. This may or may not help you...just a suggestion!
Thank you so much !! This makes so much sense! Now that I think about it, I remember that 1 or maybe even more paint was different. Most very labeled camo paint but some just regular. I would have never thought about this!!
Hi. Just wanted to let you know, i camo painted a feed truck 😊 with new designs. And i took your advice about the paint !! Check it out if you have time czcams.com/video/pBro06PCdSc/video.html
Basically, the paint does not want to stick so it bubble up. If you clean really well ( no oils, dirt, etc) it will stick. But looks like you had no primer to start off so it's taking on chances that it will stick.
Gen Xiong it actually dries back in and didn't come off, but yes a primer would have made it better
So, the paint actually stuck :) Now, a year later I wanted to take it all off and go back original. I just put up a new video doing it, if you have time, check it out :)
Hi. Just wanted to let you know, i camo painted a feed truck 😊 with new designs. And guess what! I took your advice 😊 Check it out if you have time czcams.com/video/pBro06PCdSc/video.html
The best clear coat that you can get is the "OH MY" 2k clear from BuyCustomPaint.com. A HS clear that's really easy to spray with a high gloss, and doesnt require cutting or buffing and the small kits start at $30..... Definitely worth checking out...good video
Thank you. Will check it out
I probably would of looked better with white going down the middle like sunshine
Possibly but the white was very hard to do and easy to mess up. Once you mess up, you can't go back.
This is the design I liked - nothing fancy
@@Huntress308 czcams.com/video/klCREczUYr0/video.html
You should camo your hair that would be cool
With spray paint? Lol
French creole?
Everett Anderson no 😊
Can we see the truck ?
Pedro Santos what do you mean, in person? 😊 I have no way to post a picture in the comments here but I think I show the whole truck in the video
@@Huntress308 I watched the all video and was hopping to get a walk around the truck to have the full view of the final result. But nice work, looks great. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from uk 🇬🇧
Pedro Santos thank you! I'm sorry, I didn't think of doing a complete walk around because it was only in the back.
@@p.santos6644 Hi :) I have just made an another video, repainting it to white :) Over the past year it got scratches and bumps due to me backing up into bushes and everything, so now I had to make it look all new again. If you have time, please check it out!
