Wife came in and saw me watching this video. She said, "So... you're actually on CZcams literally watching paint dry." And then she left.
Yeah my wife came up to me and said, "You Never Listen To Me." I remember thinking to myself that is a strange way to start a conversation.
She seems like a keeper.
I would have been, well in my defense it's not like you are doing much to 'entertain me'... and I'd be just as single as I am now.. 'grin'
there was a twitch (gaming stream site) that had a 10 hour paint watching stream, it was in the top 10 streams
She’s saying pay attention to me.
Bedliner, it's never a question of _if you should..._
*But rather more importantly what color?*
More like where do you live. Salt water WILL creep in over time.
@@senorconhuevos faster or slower than paint?
@@Aron-ru5zk I mean I am a fan of O.D. Green, but it has become cliche and also can look rather unappealing if it's not executed creatively.
Of the two I would go with gray just because it is not as common but I would really suggest exploring other tactical color schemes from the full breadth of military industrial shades.
What about coyote brown, Russian Rust, desert tan, Sudan Sand, khaki, shale, etc
*_And then on top of that_* think of the patterns you could execute on top of the bedliner.

@@Aron-ru5zk Olive green with black trim would be nice. I think a flat dark earth would be nice too.
Black if al ways nice but really dark . I got the timetable raptor liner and went to homedepot and got black rustoleum oil based to add in. It made it lighter because it comes DARK.
The desert tan actually looks good, especially on the Yota.
thats one of the land cruiser and hilux colors that is used in the middle east and desertic areas
I have a 2020 Tacoma in Quicksand paint color. Looks very similar to this liner color
Durabak is a brand I've been looking at. It has two options, course/textured or smooth.
Looks similar to the factory Toyota colour, sandy taupe
Yes it turned out good. I like it! Hey for a beat around truck this worked out good!
I have done this twice now. Use the reducer to thin it by about 10%. Spray it at the highest pressure (60psi) and regulate it at the gun, not the tank. Then spray it far away (18 - 24 in) and in 3 coats. First coat should give about 50% coverage. You want it too be thin so it fits in the gaps and door hinges well. This will result in a fine texture that is just as durable as a traditional bed liner.
That’s ts exactly what the professionals says

The dried bedliner doesn't weigh as much as the raw product you apply because a lot of the solvents used to keep the product in solution evaporates out when it dries so it ways less than when in the bottles. So basically you add like 10lb of weight to the entire vehicle.
2:50 That spare tire looks like it could use some rubber sprayed on it too.
I think the biggest pro is that people can repaint their vehicle in their driveway for a low cost. It doesn't matter that it isn't a fancy paint job, the goal is to take an aged but decent truck and make it presentable.
Not everyone is stuck at home - all of us essential workers haven’t missed a beat!
Thanks for being out there and keeping at it!
That is me too!!
At this point Im not sure if we are essential or expendable.lol
GEO Definitely ESSENTIAL, thanks for your efforts, and those of all who are making it happen!
Essential, sacrificial, replaceable, expendable, it’s all the same 😂 just happy to be working
I’ve always been intrigued by the concept of bed lining a truck and the beige and green trucks look sick! I agree with your suggestion of blacking out various parts of the truck too. A new back bumper, new headlights and taillights and maybe even new rims would greatly elevate the exterior as a whole. I love that you do these videos on projects occurring in your personal “off-camera” life. I don’t currently have a truck to bed line but if I ever did I’d definitely reference this video!
Did mine, Raptor Liner. 06 4Runner. Been doing great! About to fix some spots that scraped on rocks/trees, but no actual body damage. Best decision I've made!!
Good color. For an old vehicle, the liner is good, won't hurt the value. On a newer truck the resale value would take a big hit.
I did my dodge Dakota looks good and it cheaper than paint
Get a new Taco. Run it for 15 years. Then take it apart, do all the maintenance, bedline the thing in black and something else and bam... new pickup truck for another 15 years. I am going to do this. I'm over 50 so I better get started now.
Jonathan I bought a cheap Dakota with the intention of bedlining it. How does the Dakota look?
@@Jonathan-tb6fm just ordered raptor liner for my 01 quad cab as well!
It can help the value depending on the buyer.
A dark olive drab, army style would be awesome as well. Great alternative to repainting a used rig and by far cheaper do it your self project, good stuff guy's.
great vid. i got am 88 f150 and ive been struggling with the decision to either paint it or throw bedliner on there. this video made me decide to use the bed liner! pretty stoked to get it done.
I think I'd probably just bedline the trim like the fenders and such but for updating a used truck - great idea. I really liked this video.
I generally don't like bedlined trucks but that Tacoma in desert tan looks really good.
Thanks for the video, I'm actually thinking about do this to my work van. It's a 2001 and runs great ,the out side not so nice. I think its a quick , cheap way to make it look nice & durable. My thoughts were on rolling it or spraying it. Being a contractor rolling always goes on thinker the spraying. Thanks again
It's good you mentioned having extra liner. I accidentally bought two kits for my yj and only have one bottle left over. Definitely the best advice in the video.
Based on your experience, how much liner do you think I need to do my whole 97 ford ranger? And get same results as those guys?
@@mrtecoranch whole as in body only or frame, fender wells and body? I'd say three kits for the body in case of light spots. Probably two for the frame. I like the idea of extra coats in my opinion. Never hurts applying more to reassure good coverage. Just prep accordingly and you'll have a great outcome.
Love my truck been bed lined for almost 2 years and only was it every 6 months. Love the channel keep up the great work!
No problems washing it?
@@robinrountree8415 nope. I wash it like regular vehicle. Just spray down with soap and a brush, then rinse!
Definitely bed line the truck bed! I use to do drop in liners until the day I had to remove one out of a truck I had and saw how scuffed up and rusted the truck bed was even though I had installed the drop in liner when the truck was new.
Yes, its worth it! Had my truck done from factory order from Toyota. 6 yrs later, not a single chip or scratch. I load my bed often with stone, metal tubing, metal panels, etc. And to clean, simply hose it out or wait for rain. Best investment.
how much do you think it would cost for a nissan maxima
Wow
Don't spill brake fluid on bed liner. Yes, I learned the hard way.
That's for any type of paint.
@@fraxonthefurry21 I realize that is what the normal advice is. I have spilled brake fluid in the engine compartment of numerous vehicle with no adverse effects after quickly wiping it up. I have sprayed bed liner on the grill and front bumper of my van and spilled a very small amount on the bumper. The brake fluid stripped the bed liner like it was water color paint! I use the front bumper to stand on while cleaning the windshield and have never damaged the spray on liner.
@@2-old-Forthischet ah well that's interesting.
I'm gonna test that on some scrap tomorrow myself.
JDM Dragon. So... what happened?
So in a way, brake fluid is a cheap paint stripper IF you wanted to strip bed liners.
Love that you all worked together.
Did a hail damaged 2017 GMC Sierra and 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander with Raptor in my tent garage. Its great in that you can do quick, rough body filler on the dents and not worry about it being perfect as the liner covers over any small scratches and imperfections. I did use a 2k primer first however since you can't apply the raptor liner directly over the body filler. Still far cheaper and quicker then the $10000 to $15000 and the 3 to 4 weeks I was quoted by body shops for a normal restoration with factory paint.
Who is this guy on TFL? He is awesome! Hope to see more of this dude. Great video as always. Thanks guys!
I plan to use bed liner to line my van repainted just so it will be a more durable from chips and rocks when I go on medium and light trails
Wow! Came out better than I expected. The real question is, was the paint in that bad of shape to begin with? Keep it up Case.
I used Bright White over my white 03 and did the bumpers and grill in black. A year later, everything still looks great.
My only regret is putting the plastic bed liner back in. Currently taking it out and spraying the inside of the bed black.
This is something I wouldn't have thought of doing. I can see why it might not look good if not done correctly but I think the truck in this video looks pretty good!
I like the option of bedlining a truck. Thanks for sharing.
It's a mod for a cheap vehicle for sure. I think it's a good looking truck now! Like the color!
This is not only for cheap vehicles. I sprayed my Ford f-150 black with rapter liner and so many people ask about the truck & want one exactly like it
TFL NOW, some months ago I saw a FORD TRANSIT , in ENGLAND, WITH A HEAVY PAINT ON IT however it was a strange green colour, then closes ups, showed some ‘crinkle’ coating to it , this was a campervan, Cheers From NJ 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Awesome video! Thanks guys!
Guess the first time I saw the liner used on a truck, was an old RAM turned out pretty good too. Love it on Jeeps and Tacos, not sure full size trucks look as good, but the old RAM had a road warrior appearance thing going on and liked good!👍
Looks pretty good in the video!
I've definitely seen the 2JZ Tacoma around Boulder many, many times. I even know where it was parked in that shot with the wood fence behind it.
Your Friends truck looks way better with the Bed liner. Nice job Case...I like the green Toyota as well
I love the way this paint looks on trucks, trailers, etc. I do think 10 years from now, people will look back and say that was the days of bed liner paint jobs. But right now, I'm living in 2020.
The issue with the look of bedliner (coming from a person that has used raptor liner alot) is the spraying technique. If youre heavy with your sprays while using a dark color you will see every stroke (like matte auto paint). Lighter colors do a better job than darker colors at hiding it. My personal approach is to get the color coverage on the first coat then on the second and third coats i step back and do light mists with even, feathered off coats to smooth the texture and it gives good results.
what about roll on
Wouldn’t using black colored bed liner fade and dull the color being in the sun over time?
Would white liner be hard to keep clean if on the bottom doors(about 30% coverage) next to gloss white paint? It’s a white 4Runner with black wheels. I can’t decide on a white or black. I’d like to do the roof as well at some point. Any recommendations…..thanks in advance
Sweet first gen runner man, after seeing that nice paint job on it I’m gonna go with the raptor liner
I like the compromise of just doing it on the rocker panels, maybe the bumpers.
I can't wait to do this on my 1953 jeep in army green been watching a ton of these videos
I like the Gen 3 wheels on the Tacoma.
Looks great and the tire and rims are so nice
I did my 98 explorer sport in the same color bed liner. I love it. Durable and I looks good. Lots of compliments on it.
Can you wash it easily? Or will you get bird poop stains and what not?
What color tint is it
Doing my 87 4runner right now and loving how its coming out. Doing a bright cherry red and snow white
I'd like to see that!

I’ve had bedliner on Toyota Tundra for 5 years, I only sprayed one coat, and it looked absolutely awesome, going on year 5 of spraying, there’s a small amount of chipping, and the black had really dulled, so I’m going to respray it this summer, I used raptor liner as well, it was 400$ to do my whole truck. It’s extremely durable and every truck I own from now on I’m going to spray it. No scratches and it gives it a real aggressive look. Be forewarned, with all the hills and valleys of the stucco like texture, it can be tricky to clean and picks up dirt easy. Overall, would recommend!
The truck came out awesome! Great commentary, very entertaining. Would I be able to use a small 2.5 gallon Craftsman air compressor to spray the liner?
Wow this is awesome! I called a shop who does this in my area and they wanted at least 20k to spray my truck..... knowing it’s this cheap and easy to do makes me want to look back into it again.
20K to spray your truck. Regular paint of Bedliner. There's no way they want 20k to spray your vehicle
are you saying 20k for Linex?
I think someone threw in an errant 0... 20k 😂😂😂
You guys did a great job!
I'm the original owner of a '95 4WD Suburban, and Texas heat has taken a toll on most external soft parts. My fender flares were taking a beating and I just recently coated them with black Raptor, which made a heck of a difference. Since some of the paint is peeling, I'm now considering doing the entire truck. The tan Tacoma looks really good...just wondering how the Suburban would look since its a much larger vehicle.
Bed liner is pretty awesome ❗ sure love to see some more about that turbo swap ❓
I'm going to be doing my dad's 94 chevy extended cab, long box this summer I think. The yota looks pretty good.
I replaced the drop-in liner for my truck’s bed. Looks better, and the additional weight helped stabilize the back-end.
Your drop-in liner weighed more than the spray in liner...
I'd like to know more about this jz engine swap.🤔 how it's done? What's needed to make it work on a 4x4?
Great video!
Seen a Van done like that but with black finder and accent below, looked great.
I'm definitely into this, if textured right, washing it is not an issue, I have a Jeep xj, and simply did spray out of w can on just the front and down the lower sides of the panels, it washes awesome and is a thinner texture but still textured, it's also a black liner spray out of a can, it's been on almost three years and it has chipped in some places but overall has actually held up surprisingly with just out of a can, my question is , I plan to do a raptor line on other parts of the Jeep including respraying over top of what I did from the can, so I wonder if you could spray over top of what I have already done because I want the same color which is black and I wonder if it would be fine . Again the reliability of it is awesome and if you have a Jeep or off-road vehicle then this is a great option .it completely eliminates the scratching of tree limbs, and looks great.
The bedliner sprayed Tacomas look awesome in drab colors. since the trucks last forever its worth putting on a good durable coating, especially if you take it through the bush. if the paint on my 2nd gen off-road ever starts to fade or crack, i am spraying it.
I think it looks awesome. Good job.
It look good. Nice attention to details.
If I’m correct, some liner companies have specific products to apply to a vehicle’s body. It’s a little thinner and less course.
Coarse
Good catch, thanks.
Air pressure and spray distance will change the texture

3 kits and all one nice fade? As in you faded from one color to the next?
Use 3M 39008 headlight restorer for the headlights it would really really well. I use to work in an auto body warehouse, and I got to play with all different kinds of products including the Raptor bed liner kit.
Love it. Completely makes sense
Nice Video. You are a good talker!
I did my 08 taco in white Monstaliner about 7 years ago. Been holding up great. Won't hold up as well as Linex, but nothing beats the rock. Easily repairable too. LInex said it would add 700-1200 lbs to my truck if i used them. Monstaliner was 3 gallons, so 25 lbs ish. Do the bed, mirrors, grill, and bumpers in black raptor lining. Maybe even the flares if you have enough left over.
I just starded sanding down my 2000 F350 yesterday down to the factory primer but about 10% of the areas are sanded to bare metal mostly around the edges. I watched ProjectFarm YT channel video product comparison and it looks like Herculiner would be the best choice. He didn't review Monstaliner. Do you have an opinion as to what is the best (price not being a factor) My truck lives outside in Texas heat and UV light is what killed my clearcoat that has been flaking off the truck for the past five or so years. I would prefer to spray or roll it myself, I just want the best product without having to pay a crazy amount for a company to spray it. I know that two-part epoxy coatings are the best. Any ideas for me?
very good stuff, subbed
To spray or not to spray, that is the question!
Some vehicles look better with this liner as a topcoat, and some don't. I think these small'ish pickup's do look better with the coating, especially if they'are
going to be used for the great outdoors.
This one, shown here does look good,...but I have a little tip that some may find helpful, when you use a spray gun, any spray gun to paint a surface, try to keep
the gun/nozzle help at a 90 degrees to that surface. Doing that will help minimize 'thin looking' edges to the paint or coating ( as in this case ) In other words
holding the gun at 90 degrees will stop the 'fanning' effect of the paint, especially at the end of a panel.
Interesting video Kase, thanks!
You don't top coat anything with liner/raptor coating. It will start to fall off soon after from weather and daily driving. You have to sand your paint to the metal, use primer, then coat it.
@@MeliorIlle Yeah I know that, but I carelessly used the words 'top coat' of course I meant main color coating or whatever a person wants the vehicles to look like with paint on it!
It's the technique of spraying that I was talking about, and to avoid 'light - heavy- light' application of paint or liner or whatever!
@@MeliorIlle removing the factory e-coat is terrible advice. It is the single best rust preventative period. So lightly sand, scuff sure but sand to bare metal, hell no.
@@bradlaflamme6127 Nope. That isn't what Raptor or bedliner recommends. Bare metal, then spray.
@@MeliorIlle well I have installed several at gouverneur collision, and that is not what the scorpion liner suggests, nor any paint process in my life that I have applied.

I monstalinered my XJ and love it i bought it already done but they guy didn’t do a good job he didn’t mask it and it was all peeling so i decide to sand it all down and redo it all and when you do it properly it comes out nice and is nice to go through the woods and not worry about scratches
I went with the Deseret tan also on my Mitsubishi Mighty Max. It looks better once u blacken your chrome pieces. Definitely use black when u do the bed.
A mighty max? That thing still going? Nice! The stuff does stick to chrome pretty well, but it does help to scuff it up. I did the grill, bumper and lower doors on my 07 Yukon with raptor liner. Looks good and holds up really well. I'm not comfortable doing the whole car. Makes doing body repairs more difficult.

My dad works in construction ... masonry to be exact. He used to make a cement finish look like a bedliner finish. For lack of a better term, he called it termites finish because it looks like termites had eaten the inside of wood.
I’ve been seeing a lot of trucks and even some subies like this and honestly it only makes sense for the “rugged outdoors” life style plus a added pro apparently is “ease of cleaning” cause according to one guy you could power spray the gunk you collected and keep it moving
Looks great😎😎
Looks good... I am very much on the side of the bed liner job on a off road vehicle. I have seen a couple that are street trucks that look great too.. You Tube channel Rustbelt Mechanic.... I personally would have removed the bed to allow access to the back of the cab and front of the bed.. just a personal thing. You nailed the one con... very difficult to remove. Additionally if for some reason you want a body shop to apply it... not so easy. Because they will not do it in thier booth... clogs things up... and if you have a body shop remove the product for a repaint... costly. Keep some for use in case of future repair... and you have to repair or replace a body panel. Some people clear coat or ceramic over the surface...just to enhance the color. But... it is a great finish to use affordable and durable, for a off road vehicle and in harsh weather climates... snow and the such. The other runner up is a wrap.
Where are you finding roommates and friends like this! Thats awesome man, everyone out where I live is a Nancy
ive wanted to do the same to my gen 1 sequoia but with a smoother finish. i know someone who did and test sprayed it to get a smother more paint like finish by adjusting the pressure both at the compressor and the gun
I like it I'm going to do my 98 4runner soon.
Looks nice!! By the way what spray gun did you use? Need to get some bed liner myself!
Looks good in colors on the truck. Will the bed and bumpers and grill be sprayed black?
You could do a stripe on the side in black like 2 tone .
Considering bedlining my bumpers on my truck. Not knowing how it will look is what holds me back because I can't reverse it. Great job on the Tacoma looks sweet.
I did all my fender, bumpers, sidesteps, and top on my jeep in black liner. Now I think I'll do the rest of it in Tan.
