  • Mike Gurr takes the flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class 560 long wheelbase out for a spin. Is this still the benchmark in terms of pure, traditional luxury? The S-Class is sold as a short and long wheelbase and is fitted with the latest in semi-autonomous driving aides. The S-Class sedan has room for 5-passengers and all ride in style

    My MB is the same color and oddly enough that is one of the things people compliment the most about my car. Having an AMG or the AMG package makes a huge difference in making this color work for this car. Thanks to Mercedes-Benz of Arlington in Arlington, VA.
    I'm also decades away from my mid 60s. 😉

    I believe this car is so endlessly complicated because Mercedes intended for you to sit and set it up once, like you like you do when you get a new laptop or tablet, and commit that to the automobiles memory while making minor adjustments daily or when necessary. " I have not driven a car that more convincingly succeeds at what it was designed to do " that sir is how you end a car review Bravo! good job.

    Give me a 750i any day of the week, lads, rather than the S560... The V8 is an absolute gem in the Seven, the gearbox is as good as a Roller's or any number of performance cars (depending on your current disposition), the interior is of phenomenal quality, modern yet classical and easy enough to use, and it's whisper quiet at virtually any speed, so it does a luxury limo bit as good as (or better, in my humble opinion, than) the S560. All of this WITHOUT that staid, old man feel you invariably get in the S560, especially when you really want to put your foot down and enjoy your car... :-)

      @mikegurr1491 Před 6 lety +1

      Jasser Abu-Giemi it can be really difficult to manage lighting inside the car on a bright day, especially when using action cameras. I moved the camera and re shot a few scenes but as you can tell, still some lighting issues. Hope the rest made up for it ;)

    • @PHOTOCONVENTION
      @PHOTOCONVENTION Před 6 lety

      You did a fantastic job with everything else. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to knock you down but I think if you get the audio and lighting right your videos will take on new heights. It could be because your camera is on auto settings and since you're driving between bright and dark areas it's having a difficult time with the exposure. Zack probably has it easier in cloudy Vancouver for most of his vidoes but if you have to record in bright areas somethings you could try is recording in evening light, planning out your sequence so the shot is either all in sun or all in shade or use manual exposure on the camera.

    • @PHOTOCONVENTION
      @PHOTOCONVENTION Před 6 lety

      Or it could even be as easy as sorting out where the center spot of the camera is and aim that at the driver's seat since it's going to use that area for metering.

    • @mikegurr1491
      @mikegurr1491 Před 6 lety +1

      Jasser Abu-Giemi I'm always open to talking gear and technique with someone who has some experience, and it sounds like you do. The action cams are tricky in light (my behind the wheel shots are always action cams). They've got a sweet spot and on this particular day I should have shot directly at me - head on- rather than a side profile. The side profile is a more attractive shot but since I'm a one man "crew" I didn't realize that at times I veered into over or under exposure. I often use the sunroof to help here but again, tight timelines and one man crew sometimes results in surprises in post.
      What are you hearing with audio that you think needs an improvement? This is a constant pain the ass for me. I have a wired lav mic into my phone and I find the ambient noise to be quite loud.

    • @PHOTOCONVENTION
      @PHOTOCONVENTION Před 6 lety +1

    Close to mid April 2022 I test drove a 2019 Mercedes S560 and I’m sorry to say that I felt every bump, crack and any other imperfection on the road.
    I don’t know what is the hype about its great suspension, and its celebrated smooth ride.
    It honestly did not feel any different from my existing 2018 Toyota Camry, in terms of the smoothness of the ride on those road imperfections.

    • @jeffwilliams7351

      He's a troll and puts this ridiculous comment on every old S-class review he can find. I owned and drove a 2015 S550 for 80K miles and now own and drive a 2019 S560. My S550 had the 19" AMG wheels, and my S560 has the 20" wheels. Even with the smaller sidewalls on my S560 the RIDE COMFORT is superior to any other vehicle out there. My previous vehicles were a Lexus LS460 and two Acura RLs, all great luxury rides in their day. When I purchased my S550, both my wife and I agreed it was in a whole new higher level of ride comfort and quietness. All the magazines and video reviews out there also say the same thing.

      I commented a few times, to see what people will say in response.
      I since purchased an S560 with 19” wheels (end of July July this year).
      The ride comfort is very good (seat, roominess, etc.), but even in full comfort mode I still feel every crack / bump / unevenness / imperfection on the road.
      Riding on a cloud is only in fantasies.

    • @jeffwilliams7351
      @jeffwilliams7351 Před rokem +1

      @@johnsmith100 I understand your perspective now and withdraw my troll comment - sorry. The road imperfections never go away completely, they just sink to a level that is not bothersome to most people. You may be much more sensitive than most to any road imperfection, as in the fairy tale story of the Princess and the Pea (no slur intended). At speed on a decent highway I notice almost no road bumps and the noise level is very low, so that is the "riding on a cloud" that reviewers refer to. In the future I may move from my OEM run flats to non run flats to improve the ride, and I may even return to 19" AMG wheels. These extra-cost 20" AMG wheels were ordered on this car by the first owner, and I just bought it with only 7500 miles on the car so leaving them awhile. I recently test drove the new BMW iX EV and it also had extremely good ride comfort, a close match to Mercedes S-class. I am not ready for full EV yet.

    Because of your age don't know much about Mercedes Benz cars or their history. Traditionally way back in time (60s & 70's) they had basically 3 or 4 cars S class, The 6.9, the SL and then they began to produce the SLC and a station wagon. There is no comparison between the E cars the C cars or any of the other far too many cars they make now on any level. Still the best cars they make are still the S class cars.
    They would not admit that or they would say it used to be that way, but the quality of those cars is much less than the S class.
    I did have a couple of 300 D cars back in the 70's which were nice but not S class cars. Most especially you will find many
    CLS sedans because people, meaning a lot of men find that the roof is much too low for them to get in and out of the car as they have no pillar in the center. If you want to see what cars are the lesser of a brand go and look at the ones that people return within a year.
    You rarely find S class cars in those used lots.
    The lots are full of the E's Cs and CLS's and so forth. And I disagree with you saying they are not fun to drive. They are incredible to drive, They are smooth, quiet and are so well engineered they are a dream to drive. They float around corners, they dismiss potholes and I find them to be wonderful to drive. And by the way I am probably around the same age as your Father and I have no problem navigating my
    S500. Don't sell your Father short.

      I would agree with you except the new LS looks tacky and nasty. I think this looks more refined

    If I could, I would tell this reviewer to his face, try living with this thing for a couple of years, it'll be in the shop more than it will be in your garage. These cars are highly overrated. There are better cars out there for the money.

    That interior is hideous. Well put together no doubt, but hideous nonetheless. And I certainly wouldn't classify the exterior as understated. For a truly elegant and understated exterior and interior, the Volvo S90 is the current standard bearer. The Swedes in Gothenburg are doing amazing things, and speaking as a fan of German luxury automobile, I hope zee Germans catch up.
