- The word “iconic” is over used. Not on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Powerful, elegant and luxurious, rolling up in the S is shorthand for success. Tom Voelk looks at the S 560 4MATIC model that will whisk the wealthy from boardroom to weekend home in style and comfort, whether they drive or are driven.

Mercedes Benz not only invented the first modern automobile and motorcycle in 1886 as well as continue to produce engines for ships, airplanes, semi trucks Etc Mercedes has over a 100,000+ patents to the automobile, that everyone eventually copies to this day! From disc brakes, fuel injection, led headlights, traction control, abs, esp, auto braking, pre active air suspension that scans the road, stone massage seats, first production car with 100% LED Bulbs, push button start, keyless entry, TONS of safety innovations, to name just a few the list goes on & on & on...
The Mercedes S-Class is the most Innovative and it is the number one selling large luxury sedan in the world for over 25+ years straight! Literally 90% of anything you find in a car today Mercedes most likely innovated it first decades ago. Knowledge is POWER! God Bless!! 😎✊👍
These cars present great value, after three years! Thanks for another excellent review Tom!
Thanks for all of your hard work, Tom. Your reviews are great and very concise.
Thank you Tom, for this video! Great as always!!

Excellence review! Thank you for your hard work!
Your videos are soo good
Excellent review!
Excellent review a dream car
I purchased a new 2018 S560 4matic early last summer. I custom ordered it with the features I wanted, and colors/materials and finishes. It is soooo comfortable, and like Mercedes have always been, classic lines, with no garish exterior. The features impress my tech friends, and the lux interior impresses the rest. I didn’t buy it to impress, but complements are a constant, even just parking in a grocery store. I’ve seen others in this comment section remark on bland looks, but for an understated exterior it seems to command fairly high praise from strangers and random individuals. As far as it’s quality, build, and hidden tech, it’s been a supreme car for daily driving, as well as road trips. Being in my 30’s I ordered it not for chauffeuring or anything like that, but to pick up my friends for dinners and going out and making sure everyone would be comfortable. There are cheaper options, but I got what I paid for and wanted. Speaking of this car and my age/friends…this is the car to drive your friends out on the town for cocktails. I paid the extra for the 20 something Burmester speakers to pump up the tunes, and turn on those interior ambient lights to red, purple, or deep blue, even the hot pink I have to admit, and it’s like a night club on wheels on the way to a nightclub! 🎉👍🏻. Plus, the valets always park it right up front for quick return of the car after leaving a club or restaurant. I guess the valets even have a respect for the car considering they always want it up front to be seen next to the other nicer rides. Blackout the rear windows and rear windshield with the shades at night and A LOT of fun can go on. I should mention I also have a 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera for a fun zippy ride, but I find myself using that just for dates now. If you have the means, and a group of fun friends that like to hit up the clubs and go on mini road trips, this is by far the most confident, comfy, yet fun way to get around. Splurge for the wheels and the AMG styling package to keep it fresh. I ordered the designo white, and went with a custom tent job for the windows, and it certainly gives it a edge in the looks department. It’s sheer mass adds an intimidation factor which is fun at our age. The next step up in size is an SUV…and I’m no where near a “babies on board” or soccer dad look yet. The “Big Benz” is a crowd pleaser for my crew…another friend was impressed enough to buy one for himself around the holidays. You will have a hard time finding an S class owner finding flaws that aren’t fickle or monetary. If money is a problem for you then just step down to a lower grade car. It has been the leader in its segment for a reason. It’s always setting benchmarks, and that keeps the others on their toes, meaning everyone benefits from S class in some way or another. it’s not as if the other cars created ASB or airbags, or crumple zones. I mean it’s iconic for a myriad of reasons. Btw…random, but I have a friend that bought a Tesla towards the end of last year, warning, nobody will want to ride in that backseat for long! Yikes! They might have the new tech down, but a long way from a lux interior…can’t even adjust the headrests. Maybe I’m just not feeling green…but I don’t have any children, so I figure I’m not adding anymore carbon prints to the planet. Plus that Tesla has a low ceiling as well; a few of us are over 6’ tall and you have to kind of “hunker down”! Not a chill ride out with friends, unless it’s a short ride. So the only downside to owning the new S560 is that you will end up being asked to drive your friends to the restaurants and movies and clubs! 😂 A burden I can handle. If I don’t feel like driving I can just say I’m drinking, and call the tried and true Uber driver! ✌🏻
Congrats!!! I love it too though I don't have it yet at 53. In my place( Msia). It's 900K ! Insane price. But now I am in Singapore, hopefully to have it ! The next model is a disaster!!! Equivalent to the 1998 model, a disaster too!! 2021 model , the front light are slimmer against the wide body of the S Class!it's awfully ugly!!! Most likely by the time I could afford It it's gonna be a used car! Still its better than the 2021 craps design!
Jaywm3 did
great video!
very interesting review thank you sir.
Thank you, Martin!🙂
Wonderfull presentation like to S560... We ordered S560 and really it was perfect Car
Martin and Tom remind me of the old Bartles & Jaymes wine cooler commercials from the 80's. I'm sure Tom is old enough to remember that pop culture reference😏
Nice video
Another great video Tom! There is a lot of cool technology in the S class now. I miss the styling of the early 2000’s Benzes. I think for most of the “upwardly mobile” the S class has everything and more of the things a luxury class buyer would want.
Never say Never, Mr.Voelk.
You do great reviews, man! Keep up the good work!
Great car. Great review. The color is superb. The only upgrade I’d want are the wheels.
Thanks Martin!
I have a 2016 S550 with 33K miles ... bought it for 63K a year ago with 29 K miles ... it is the BEST riding, quietest, smoothest car I have ever owned ... and it's quicker than my 2005 Maserati Quatroporte which preceded it. Fast, comfortable and built solid. 26+ mpg on the interstate at 75+ mph. It the auto equivalent of flying first class ... only better.
The S-class is actually pretty affordable - on the used market. Those $100k+ German cars depreciate like nobody's business!
@E Brown
Not sure what you consider affordable...but a 2015 ( with decent mileage) is still bringing over 50K...and that is one with little or no warranty left on it
And on the new market. In the U.K. the discounts are unbelievable. Factor in 0% credit and you can come close to beating a new and definitely a used E Class on Mercedes Finance when you option up to the S Class specification. Actually 1 to 2 year old S Class examples make little buying sense. Perhaps an indication of just how difficult the new car market really is. Given masses of cars come back after 3 to 4 years on crazy bubbles to lure "buyers" into a new car it's just a matter of time before car credit selling hits the buffers. I keep passing an '08 S Class on a used car pitch at £6495. Crazy money, true, but bear in mind the repair bills relate to its original showroom sticker. That's the catch. Ruinous to maintain. And that applies to all premium brands. Cheap, eventually, but always costly to repair. There's no genuine free lunch!
@@brynleytalbot778
In the United States...you cant option up an E class to S class specification. There are several options that are exclusive to the S class. Then there is the fact that the S class is a lot larger car if you need/want the extra room. In the United States they sell/lease at least 1000 S classes a month which is phenomenal for a car in its price range. It outsells cars like the Lexus LS ( which is far cheaper) handily
You are right...in the example of the 11 year old model that you used. It is very expensive to maintain because you are fixing a 100K car not one that is $6495
I know I am quite randomly asking but do anyone know of a good site to watch newly released series online?
@Grayson Quinn try Flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
Tom, I am so old I remember when discerning, relatively wealthy yet value-conscious people invested in a rock solid Mercedes and kept it 20 years. The accountants at Daimler must have nightmares about the old days when they were not catering to badge-addled poseurs across the planet with a derivative Mercedes for every 'taste' and budget.
Rolls-Royce was even worse/better - they'd keep a design around for well over a decade, so someone with a 1981 Silver Spur looked fairly current almost to the Millenium.
Fantastic Mercedes S 560!
Didn't notice any gaffes when I saw this 8 hours ago.
I mixed up a model and horsepower figures. Twice. Bad me.
@@DrivenCarReviews We still love you even for your errors
The “nerf gun” comment is one of your best descriptions ever. Very sharp! And I think Martin needs a raise...
excellence !
Can you consider doing a 2019 Marcedes Benz Maybach s650 please?
What a thoroughly nice chap.
♥ love Mercedes S ♥
I have a RX10 too!love your videos
Great stealthy camera for shooting video.
Rarely have I seen a ‘sumptuous’ & awesome leather seating - in The Flagship Mercedes-Benz S560, no less - bested by a leather jacket! As someone who’s into Leather (& blades/steel/rifles/things that go “BOOM!!!,” too), I’m envious of THAT Leather Jacket [@ 00:41] AND THIS S560’s Leather Seating…🇺🇸
Stunning car ! Mercedes badge was in the grill instead of the hood like an AMG . I just bought a Genesis G-90 for 42K , it’s a stunning car and I would put it up against this one any day of the week and for 25k less ! I love it .
Are the rear seats available as drop-down as an option like on the smaller models? OR Not possible as they have recline/massage/heat etc.
Very good review. I do prefer the S class coupe though, especially if you're driving it yourself.
Enjoyable review tom, like usual... 2020 KIA Telluride SX AWD please. ))
As soon as I can snag one. Couldn't make the press launch.
thanks tom ))@@DrivenCarReviews
HEADS UP if a BOEING MAX is taking off near you
Tom, Do they celebrate Groundhog Day on March 12 in Washington State?
Why look, it's Bill Murray...
Timeless design. A giant leap compared to the predecessor. Still looks so much better than the competition. Even in it's 8th year of production. Genesis is going the same route with the G90: comfort and luxury. As it should be. Both excellent cars
Got 6 in mine misleading us did not use the raised space in front and it corners great. Remember this is a luxury car that drives like on but a lot closer to a sports car then you would think.
Martin MVP!
I going for the 2014 model 550 4Matic!
you should be prepared for high maintenance cost, since Mercedes-Benz cars tend to fall apart after 5 years
"Fun to dream" I just buy them after a few years, very affordable.. Lol Just be your own mechanic is all..
Is this neighborhood that you are driving, in West-Vancouver, B.C, in Canada?
Nope. It's in the Bellevue, WA area.
@@DrivenCarReviews Thank you for the quick response. beautiful area.

Nice Review but, how do you know what we can afford to ride in or drive?
I have magical powers.
I enjoyed the review as always and I was one of the backers for the new gear! As a geared and filmmaker I dig the camera gear comments you included here. I think it would be great to list all gear you used during each production in the youtube comment area. Just an idea! BTW which GOPRO are you using for the interior shots and how do you capture audio inside the car?
Third time's a charm? I hope this is the last time you have to reupload
Me too
My dream car. I’ll keep dreaming.
If I had the money I would take that Teutonic sled. Oh yeah. 😊
Ned Dyer haha the teutons. Tacitus would be proud
Those wheels are such a styling let down. They look like the kind of wheels you get from the Tire Rack with a winter tire package. Generic and boring.
Gerald G even the grill
Completely agree I have the 20 inch on mine.
I really love the previous generation of S Class. Headlights are not as beautiful as before.
I wonder if the refrigerator is available or optional in this Model!
Although, I'd prefer the V12 engine (Maybach) obviously!
Power 368 hp torsi 500 nm 3200 CC top speed 0/280 km.
re-subbed, say hi to ET
In the description: You're sorry about doing WHAT with our comments??? :p
CZcams doesn't let you replace a video and keep the comments. I messed up a fact and uploaded again.
The spec on this car is excellent. Exclusive Nappa in Nut Brown with the wood veneer is timeless. This is peak S class interior. I mean just look at it @ 5:04 The new W223 interior is just cheap black plastic and screens, the steering wheel buttons creak and flex when pressed. Such a shame.
How is this review different from the earlier video?
Corrected a horsepower figure and model.
Must have option packages in a $100G car! Is this kinda validating the statment, a fool and their money! Nice vehicle though. I would so take one of these used, optioned out by the first owner. Thank you very much!
It was because you said RDLs instead of DRLs, eh?
@6:17 - are you serious? Every S-class had this exact central console since 2006 update.
marcads life
Mercedes has history, pedigree, perfume spray, premium buying experience- all matter nothing to most people. Sure , some people want prestige that it brings , otherwise it does not get sold as it does, especially for that price. But the most important thing for any car buyer is - reliability, no one wants a car that gets broken down very often once it is 4 years old. After having paid a premium price most would like some peace of mind , like Lexus brings. Benz and Beamer are obviously more famous German brands but among auto buffs - they are notorious for lack of reliability. Audi is more reliable of the 3 biggies , Lexus IS the most reliable of them all, Genesis is an affordable alternative to Lexus with equal reliability and unmatched warranty
that leather jacket
In April 2022 I test drove a 2019 Mercedes best 560 and I’m sorry to say that I felt every bump crack and other imperfection on the road.
I don’t know what is the hype about its great suspension.
It honestly did not feel any different from my existing 2018 Toyota Camry, in terms of the smoothness of the ride on those road imperfections.

Always a black Mercedes. Besides silver, gray, white. Do they make any other colors.
The Mercedes GT comes in green, The new A-class comes in yellow, this is because its a completely different target market compared to the C, E and S class models. Also people today like to wrap their cars.
The car in this video is actually Emerald Green Metallic. Looks black in overcast conditions, but can see glimmers of dark green in some angles.
this new bumber makes the car look sexy again
Three DRL strips~
Please do the E class review, pleaseeeeee ;)
The end of cars. Never buy a car that is 100% control by computers. When that cluster goes out YOU"RE SCREWED!
You left out the Tesla Model S in your list of competitors, which is of course faster and quieter, and a whole lot greener.
And cheaper and less quality
Those are blackberry track pads lol
I feel like I’ve seen this before....haha
What happened, Tom?
I was in too much of a hurry and messed up a fact. Then I messed up the correction. I guess my vacation was too relaxing.
All good, sir. Keep up the wonderful work
Going with a CT6
Far better looking than the ugly 2021 model.
FYI - it's pronounced La-CROY water, I learned that recently! Couldn't believe it
I was trying to be fancy. You can buy it Tar-shay.
Had an S-class for my Uber ride to work a couple of weeks ago. Not bad, but I prefer my friend’s A8, tbh.
Take 3? What is going on Tom?
I was in too much of a hurry and messed up a fact. Then I messed up the correction. I guess my vacation was too relaxing.
@@DrivenCarReviews Sad you did that, basically makes your video a throwaway video after all that work because most people won't watch again, just leave it with the mistakes in and just correct it with a pinned comment below. I'll watch it again though so you get the credit for it, hope everyone else does too.
@@venom5809 All I can say is it's best to be accurate. Thanks for watching again.
2021 model coming in a year
Beautiful inside and understated out. I like the subtlety but dare I say it needs a facelift. Looks a little dated now.
Such a nice car. Just wish it was more reliable😢
No way, lol
Better than the S Kia , design !! ( 2021 S-class,) .
Insert “I wish the” before the Mercedes badge in my comment .
I'd omit the Tinted Windows I don't really like Tinted Windows well I do & I don't I'm both ways on Tinted Windows
I am here if u need a chauffeur. But I don't do manicures (hint.)
I work with my hands. It's been cold. These things happen.
Diamond stitching on the dash, and in brown! At least no-one claimed the Germans have any sense of style.
You didn't get the memo? Brown is the new black.
Great car Tom. New CT6 will turn more heads at 50k cheaper. The new V series of the CT6 will smoke this Benz
CT6 is dead at half the price, S-Class lives on, the public disagrees. Also I'm annoyed they are getting rid of the CT6, I think it's a pretty awesome car.
CT6 is an okay build quality by GM, nothing more, nothing less. Definitely NOT same league of the S560. Btw, this S560 is not for speed, they have S63 AMG to do that and of course, CT6 can only dream to be in the same room with the S63. and most people (usually chicks) won't even notice Cadillac these day not even talking about CT6. The Mercedes badge is way more pronouns in term of brand recognition and luxury and Cadillac.
Dude has been hoarding toilet paper way before it became a thing.
Looks great, but not sold on Merc bling like interiors.
I dont think many rich people still hire chauffeurs to drive their cars
The S-Class is also shorthand for Substantial Services
The interior is gorgeous. The exterior is kind of dated and ugly for me. I’d rather get a Panamera.
No serious person compares an S-Class with a fucking Hyundai "Genesis".
The exterior is starting to look pretty stale, the E class imo looks much better
Quality product. Pity it also has the typical Mercedes banana like styling. As do the GLE Coupe and the CLA Shooting Brake....perhaps a banana is the designers' favourite food?
What is going on Tom!? Has youtube been manipulated by the Russians? lol
That's it. I'll blame it on Putin.
