Now it's really just PlayStation and the occasional TV here and there. Hell, some would consider PlayStation almost a subsidiary of Sony so does that even "count" from that perspective...
Auto Rotate has been fixed, it was a bug, I've got my Sony today and it's pretty impressive, the auto-rotate has no bug as you show on the screen. Great phone and a very decent camera as well.

@@UltraObama Hey it’s been 1 Year since you asked the question, I don’t know if already get the answers or not but here is what i heard or sees on what Sony’s users been sharing the 4K display or the Resolution that you are using it’s not 24/7 4k resolution it’s a variable depends on the content that you are seeing if you watch something at 4k or watching the footage you’ve been shot in 4k then it will juice up to 4k while the rest of use case such as Tiktok, IG, Twitter. 1080p mostly

When I had my first Sony Xperia, that feature felt like the thing I didn't know I needed, also the colors are very helpful too, Messenger chats are blue light, Lowbat is red, personal messages are green, app notifications are white, that phone was released like 2011 but it was really a great phone for its time.
Thankfully i have an indicator 🙏🏻
I miss it too, and at that time a blinking notification really meant I need to pay attention for some important communication. Now I have a proliferation of communication apps, but hardly any real communication happening. Just junk forwarded stuff, and meaningless alerts meant only to be dismissed.

I have the original Xperia 1. It's a fantastic phone. The 4k 21:9 screen is very nice and the best part is there isn't a stupid camera hole in the screen. I prefer bezels to have the camera instead of the dumb gimmicky notch on the screen.
I love when Sony makes a phone. They just do what they want.
And they include features people want like notification light, expandable storage, headphone Jack and front firing speakers just naming a few, unlike Samsung and Apple who remove features but raise their price

I respect Sony more than other shitty Crapdroid brand who only following Crapple trend such as stupid useless notch, punch hole, tear drop or whatever bullshit defects that makes screen looks ugly. Sony is the most technically advanced phone, and he even didn't get to those things he just grab the phone like a kid having a toy in his hand
Had iPhones, Samsung's and switched to the Xperia 1 ii last August and I can say hands down the best phone I've ever used and super user friendly. It's the little things for me like the LED light on the front that flashes certain colours for different noticications when it's on silent. How fast it charges and lasts for ages and the speakers are so loud and everything else is just amazing from the camera to the speed of opening apps etc deffo be sticking with Sony they are a beast ❤️
So today I've learned if you want dismiss a product off-hand, just label it as "enthusiast"

Marq, I'm glad you brought this review up. I think it's one of the most underrated pieces of electronics today. Sony has been in the business for quite some time now and I'm not sure they've really gained the notoriety they've deserved. The xperia is the perfect niche for them imo because it deals in small component hardware which they are more than capable of handling with their infrastructure. Just my opinion.

The slow Auto-Rotate is I guess to prevent accidental rotation when you're just slightly moving when in bed tossing and turning etc. It was a feature in previous Xperia models that it can "learn" wheter you want it to rotate or you're just moving from laying on your back to laying on your side.
It was a bug on my phone it's pretty fast, no such delay as on his video.
I have this phone. They fixed all the quirks and app screen incompatibilities. It's such a great phone! I got the phone in September (it was the fastest I could get it shipped in the US. I couldn't get it before then) and everything was fixed by late November. No flaws with the software at all .

After watching this review a dozen times I got the phone myself. Love the phone overall. I think they updated the software since the auto rotate on my phone isnt that slow. Coming from my G7 I wish they had a volume mixer for all apps instead of all media etc.

@@NotSyko he didn't even experement with raw camera features, photo editing. he didn't realise that limiting 4k pixels to 1080p doesn't make any significant difference as phone still powers same no of pixels and only effects processing a little bit on the other hand 60Hz feature effects much more. he didn't even use the correct wire for rode microphone and blamed it on sony for "not providing compatibility". honestly there were so many other innovations that would break the market if released by apple or Samsung but he seemed unamused and reluctant to complement at almost all of them. he genuinely was more interested in making a review video rather than knowing more about the phone

It just sounds so convenient to have all the features. I like watching videos at night before bed and the great screen with front facing speakers were the best thing I enjoyed on the HTC One M8. I can't wait to have it on this phone. I use headphone jacks all the time at work.

Soo. For you out there that haven't owned a Sony phone. Let me tell you a bit here that these (short term) tests do not reveal. I had multiple Sony phones, last one being the XZ3.
I decided to then try a Samsung S20+. While the Samsungs are nice, there are just quite a few things Sony does a lot better:
1) The adaptive brightness on Samsung straight out sucks compared to the Sony phones. Annoys me how often I have to manually adjust it. And yes, this is with no screen protector covering the sensor.
2) The camera settings on the Samsung lacks the option to scale down the quality of the pictures you take. If you like me just want to save your pictures in 4 or 6MP instead of a crazy resolution that takes up all your space - no option for that. I find that extremely annoying.
3) The fingerprint reader on the back of the XZ3 was an extremely nice feature. Once you get used to it, it is extremely hard to go back to anything else. The facial recognition on the S20+ never did it for me..
4) Overall, you can just tell that Sony put a lot more effort into customizing their software. It has a lot of options of tweaking stuff to your liking that Samsung doesn't offer.
5) Sony phones has a smart charging feature that will detect your usual battery charging pattern and will stop the charging at around 80%, only to charge the remaining final 20% right before you usually disconnect it, say early in the morning. This ensures you do not damage the battery or shorten the life of it.
For me, what got me buying a Samsung was the ease of being able to repair it almost anywhere in the world. I was traveling outside Europe and broke my screen on the XZ3 - was impossible to find a place to get it repaired and had to send it back by DHL.
Yes, it's quite unfortunate how underappreciated Sony phones are. I can relate to not being able to find a place to repair the phone, even in my home country. I can only approach the official Sony center, which is not very populated.
@@Cptjonmiller maybe if any sony phone actually had a decent battery it would be appreciated more. What use are the features if sony delivers consistently bottom tier performance when it comes to battery life and charging.
My xperia 1 (first edition) still running great. I like the Mark iii a lot. The sad thing is, I never see people with a Sony smartphone, it is crazy - they are so reliable 👍
Having expandable memory is not an 'enthusiast' feature.
It's a practical thing that every phone should support.
By labelling everyday useful features such as microsd expansion and a 3.5 mm jack as enthusiast features, we are letting companies get away with omitting them.

Sony phones are actually affordable. Just don't get the flagship phone. I got an unlocked Sony 10iii for $350. In all honesty, it works better than the iPhone 11 that I was provided at work.
Just bought this second hand from CEX UK store £355. Absolute bargain. 256gb storage and can expand with 1tb. Screen is awesome 4k 120hz and after a couple of hours yesterday updated it to android 13. Samsung have become like apple taking features away from phones, look at Sony it shows you can continue to include 'enthusiast' features and make a profit
There is just something about Sonys simplistic design that makes me fall in love with this phone, dat price tag doe.
When you think about the value tho of being able to expand your storage to the entire size of the largest 512 iphone for just 25 dollars it starts to make sense tho. However I would love a version of this with a 1080 p screen.

MKBHD, The dual aperture feature was kept in S10 line as well. I own an S10+ and it has the plastic diafragm that regulates the amount of lights that goes into the sensor.
Periscope style camera zoom is actually a good setup, rather than having multiple lens with multiple sensors.

@@aamerfallatah332 They do kinda make up for that because of their longer lasting Battery technology, Sony smartphone batteries don't Deteriorate as much as other smartphones so in like 1.5 to 2 years the 1 III battery capacity will be bigger than the S21 Ultra which I do appreciate

When you watch someone review these Xperia phone that actually understands how cameras and photography works, it really makes you realise just how much the average youtuber, like MKBHD, doesn't know and understand how cameras and photography works. They literally don't know anything outside of how an iPhone or a Galaxy works. So the Xperia just seems to confuse them ... On the other hand, the ''Meeeh camera'' on this Sony device has won the TIPA World Awards 2021 for Best Photo Smartphone, not the iPhone 12 pro max, not the Galaxy s21 ultra! Why? Because the panel of judges are really professional photographers and those who has experience in photos imaging ...

What I like about Sony phones is that they are the ones that come up with technology that eventually appears on other Android rivals and to a lesser extent iphone as well as refusing to budge from stuff that is considered by both iPhone and other Android phones to be outdated.
For example Sony phones were the first to be waterproof and dust resistant and charge wirelessley while over the years the likes of the iPhone and even Samsung have gradually followed suit.
Most Sony phones still support headphone jacks and expandable storage while most Android phones don't have them anymore while the iPhone infamously never supported expandable storage and killed off the headphone jack since the iPhone 7.
Plus the Xperia 1 series supports 4K screens while others including even the Samsung S series don't have that.

I feel like the slow auto rotate to to reduce the amount of accidental rotations, which happens to me alot...

Have fun trying to adjust the slow rotation when you want to actually using the phone right after you accidentally rotated it!
Its just a bug.

I've been using my Oppo Find X Pro for about 8 months now and it's still fast but when it comes time to replace Sonys going to be a top contender! Sonys always pushing the boundaries off what's possible...
I thoroughly enjoy your videos Marques. Your way of speaking, the presentation, the editing, it's great. I know the 1iii is targeted at a very specific audience, and I will never have one because of the price, but I absolutely love Sony phones! I have had multiple Sony phones (T62u, W810, T226, Xperia TL, & the 10iii), I've also had Motorolas, Samsungs, and even iPhones. I keep coming back to Sony phones. They have features (enthusiast or not) that other companies simply don't have. I honestly prefer the pictures that the Sony phones take. I prefer to see things exactly how they really are. I don't want photos that are over-processed. I can also say that the headphone jack, a slot for an SD card, notification LED, and the very lightly modified version of Android are big keys for me. From my experience, Sony phones JUST WORK! My Samsung crashed and needed to be restarted multiple times per day, the Motorola was reliable, but just kinda ho-hum. The iPhone that I was issued at my job simply does NOT WORK. The iPhone regularly does not save my work (spreadsheets, text documents, and photos) , it will not connect to Bluetooth devices, the calendar on it is often multiple days off, and there are many times that it does not ring when people call. So, yeah, my experiences with Sony phones have been excellent- far superior to any other phone I've had. I never get a flagship phone, but I can find lower-range models that are every bit as dependable.

@@SonyEnthusiast I'm happy to say that my wife and I both love this phone! They have been very reliable- absolutely ZERO problems. Call quality is excellent, battery life is typically around 2 days. Best thing of all? No calls to tech support like with my Apple Hipephone! :)

It is not hard to take nice Photos with average camera - it is not great but not BAD.
the real deal of this xperia is for the camera expert, the versatility of options in camera really beast.
Hold on though, that delayed rotate feature might actually be amazing for an enthusiast. Think about it, if you're the type of person who normally turns off auto-rotate, you can now effortlessly go wide screen when you occasionally do need to use it. So its basically makes using your phone flat easier than it typically would, you have to be doing it intentionally to trigger. Hope that makes sense

I have auto rotation off 99% of the time.

One of the best phones I ever had, was my old Sony Z1. After 5 years it got damaged. Then I moved to a cheap phone and now I just ordered the Iphone 13 Pro Max. Moving to Apple and will see how that goes. Wife has Iphone 12 mini too. Still...I do love Sony phones.
