Warriors Box And 1 Zone Defense vs Mavericks

- 3 years ago, the Toronto Raptors ran a Box and 1 zone defense against the Warriors in the Finals. This time, the Warriors are using it against their opponents.
Steve Kerr has identified Luka Doncic as a problem, and the Box and 1 is a great way to solve that problem assuming his teammates can't step up. If the other Mavericks players can find ways to reliably score playing 4 on 4, then we won't see much more of this zone, but for now it's stifling the Mavericks offense.

The warriors are not going to allow any offensive scheme to penetrate for a half, much less a full game, and while Finney Smith or Bertans could get hot forcing the warriors to spread out and allow greater penetration I don't see them being able to pull together any consistently effective actions against this warriors defense. Brunson and Dinwiddie are going to have to play out of their mind for the Mavs to have a chance.
Funny how Steph Curry called Nick Nurse and the Raptors box and one defense "janky" in 2019, now Steve kerr and Warriors use it to stop Luka and the Mavs. Copycat league for real.
Did it work against them though? Had Klay and KD been there, it wouldn't have mattered. And it's wasn't a new type of defense by the way.
It was Janky because it was meant to give up shots from his teammates which worked effectively because everyone got injured lol. Raptors got lucky

2015 - Warriors were beating Cavs because Kyrie's defense was bad. Replacing him with Delly did the Cavs favor by raising their defensive rating and being scrappy on Curry which gave them a fighting chance until Delly's legs gave out.
2017 - Did you really think the 2017 warriors with KD was gonna lose to the spurs with Kawhi on it? I call this speculative bullshit
2018 - Warriors were losing Iguodala too, a big defensive piece in their rotation. No?
@@youtubeisannoying3907 thats nonsense, warriors weren't beating cavs in 2015 if kyrie was there, it went to OT when kyrie was there, imagine he stayed the whole series, it went 6 for crying out loud, warriors lose, 2017, yeah warriors win that, they have curry, kd, klay, draymond, iggy, while spurs had injury riddled kawhi, old lma, old gasol, not even tony parker was there..., if spurs were fully healthy, who knows how the series turns out, I say warriors in 7, 2018, if iggy is needed to beat a rockets team with cp3 and harden in it, while the other team has curry, klay, kd and draymond starting, that sounds pretty pathetic to me

Good idea. I’m not sure how that would look to be honest. If you could get him on the low block it would be tough to make an entry pass with Wiggins fronting him and then another man from the box. If he could dribble into it, there’s an immediate double. It’s possible to space out and get some open looks via the double but I’m not sure how it would look. Excited to see if the Warriors run it again tonight!

Yes! It wasn’t against the box and 1 if I remember correctly, but Luka did attack the box and 1 much more effectively this time. Though it was vs Klay and not Wiggins

Yeah, they do. Not always, but on a random number of videos and more often during the playoffs from what I’ve seen.
However, if you edit the video enough via commentary, text, visuals like my arrows, and slow down/speed up/pause the videos, you can dispute the copyright claims. Depending on how heavily you’ve edited the content it may count as fair use in which case your dispute will work.
