Bud Cort called this his "spiritual sequel" to Harold and Maude. The cinematography and mood have a very similar feel to H&M, as does his "Ted" character. There are however, SOME notable, undeniable differences. The tone is MUCH DARKER as is the character of Ted. He was far less sympathetic than Harold. It would be Harold, had he NOT met Maude. While Harold and Maude has a very uplifting message, the positive aspects of Ted and Venus are quickly undone by the realization that the film's protagonist is a potentially dangerous, mentally disturbed man.
Bud cort is such a good actor. Underrated. He is amazing in this scene.
