To this day she is still one of my favourite actress. She finally won her well deserved Oscar more than 50 years after her debut in acting. I had the immense pleasure to meet her in New York, purely by chance. She was coming out of a theatre that was showing Annie. I went up to her and told her she was my favourite actress. Her first comment was if you like me so much, name some films I was in. After naming 5 she finally realized I was a fan. She invited me to buy her a Coffee which to this day is still one of the highlights of my life. Wonderful woman with an incredible sense of humour. I still think she should have won an Oscar for Harold and Maude.

@@margarethhoughton6782 She was surprised I even recognized her. She said she could walk around in complete anonymity even in New York. The 20 odd minutes I spent with her left a deep impression on me. She was more interested to hear about Toronto than talking about herself or her accomplishments. She was being picked up by someone and when we parted she said she would give me a kiss, but she was a married woman. She had such a positive attitude about life. An amazing woman.

I visited Martha's Vineyard in the mid 70's, and while there stopped by Ruth's house on Cottage Street and knocked on the door. The housekeeper invited my friend and I in, and we waited in her living room for a while. We did not get to see Ruth then, as she was taking a afternoon nap. Still a kick to be there and see all her awards. Something like that could never happen today!

He thinks she is so cute. I bought him the box set of columbo for Christmas.. He was very happy with it indeed lol. My son always wishes columbo let her off with this crime at the end, a part we don't see haha.. I'm glad younger people have gotten into columbo during lockdown. From what I've read more younger people have discovered it so I'm really pleased about that so so much. @@enlightenedsoul4282 That’s heartening to hear youngsters like your son appreciate the high production values of Columbo, they are so well written and made.I particularly love all the wealthy houses and expensive cars.
Yes I wanted Columbo to let her off too, like he did with Janet Leigh.
I think my favourite line in this episode is when they are both in Abigail’s Rolls Royce and she says to Columbo,” Shall we compare poverty stories?” and Columbo ‘s snappy reply is of course,”Not in a Rolls Royce Ma’am!”

@@jamie7056 dya know.. That's exactly what my son loves too, the houses & cars (he loves her house in this episode). Yes haha, that is a great line about poverty stories in her lovely car. It always makes me laugh around the beginning when they both sit in the living room and he asks if he can sit down on this particular chair and she replies "well that's what it was made for 300 years ago" lol., I think she says 300 years.. It just tickles me. I love the magician one with Jack cassidy? Now you see him I think it's called and I like murder by the book too with miss lasenka. I feel so sorry for her.. I could go on. I always hope olumbo didn't lock Janet Leighs dance business partner up either though cause columbo knows he didn't do it. It's really sad isn't it. But that joke in the more modern ones with a guy running for senate or something political& columbo tells a joke about a flasher, call that a lining, loool, that's so funny! It's one of my favourite jokes. I'm gonna stop now cause I'll carry on all night. I agree with you though about the youngsters appreciating such a great TV show. My son always says he wishes Jessica fletcher and columbo accidently met up in an episode.. Solved a murder together. I suppose that would only be great if you like murder she wrote too, I do. I thank you for posting the biographical information because I had not noticed the credits for the screenplays she did for George Cukor/Tracy/Hepburn before. That was pivotal in the legend of Hepburn's career. I am also thinking of historical feminist film criticism I read by Molly Haskell. Wouldn't that work also lead the way to Nora Ephron? And maybe she was a role model for Carrie Fisher.

Scott Bergs biography on Kate Hepburn several times over the years and (though it's been a while) I seem to remember reading that although Ruth and Garson were great friends to Kate and Spencer, after Spencer passed away Garson wrote a rather scandalous book ("scandalous" in Kates mind, i suppose i should say) about Kate and her relationship with Spencer ..and she never forgave nor spoke to him again. To which i say, "Quite right." Kate was a notoriously private person and as much as i've studied her over half my life, I can succinctly imagine what a betrayal that was to her.
