My wife went from 235, height of 5'3", to 155 in 16 months doing sustainable weightloss through cutting all fried food, fast food, and processed foods, and eating lean proteins, fruits, veggies, and whole grains at every meal. She also exercise her hobby rather than a temporary thing. She goes to a cross fit class twice a week, a yoga class once a week, and runs two 5Ks a week now. She has ran two half marathons and is training for a full marathon. She still ate about 2,000 calories a day while loosing weight. You do not have to do a crash diet, or a diet at all. Just eat clean and exercise hard.
@@angiegmailcomperkinsI'm around your wife's stats maybe a few pounds heavier. I box and lift and can tell you right now my body hasn't changed in months because I can't seem to get my diet down. This is the truth. I have been excersising for yrs and didn't move the scale. Feb of 2023 I decided to couple IF with high protein diet with the same excersise and I was shocked at my 18lb loss for the yr. YES..your eating habits has to change!
You are absolutely right and vary rarely have I seen a channel provide information I agree with. 👍 I lost over 159lb about 20 years ago. Good luck everyone.
I respect you as a doctor and I appreciate your concern for your patients. I can see that you truly care. In my experience after I had my 3rd child in October 2010. In January of 2011, 3 months after giving birth I started using the HCG injections along with the 500 calorie diet which is basically starvation! 😬Although in saying that, from January 2011 to June 2011, I lost a total of 70 lbs. I gained 60lbs during my pregnancy but still lost 70 lbs. After I discontinued the injections, I added more calories to my diet including lean meat, vegetables of any kind and all of the fruit that I could get my hands on. After a month of adding more calories to my diet I got on the scales and had continued losing more weight! That blew me away because my bodies metabolism went through the roof and I continued losing even more weight. I actually lost 9 more lbs. At that point I thought I was way to skinny and added more food to my diet to regain those 9 lbs. I don’t know all of the Science behind it, but with my experience, I lost more weight than I anticipated and felt wonderful! I have fibromyalgia and the diet took away my pain! I kept my weight off for 5 years. After those 5 years I went through a period where I couldn’t sleep! I was hospitalized with insomnia and was on seroquel in order to sleep! It took 2 years suffering with insomnia for the doctors to finally prescribe this medication!! I was so thankful to finally sleep again. Here’s the bad part! After taking seroquel for 3 months, I gained 50lbs. At the present time I am 40 lbs overweight but I CANNOT live without my sleep meds! Seroquel messes with the hunger center of your brain and let me tell you. I would wake up in the middle of the night and devour anything that I could get my hands on!! 😩In 2019 I had to fight that hunger for months which was almost impossible. I started taking HCG again and lost 30 lbs. Fighting through the night time hunger while on HCG was horrible, but I did lose 30lbs before vacation. Right after vacation, I gained every bit of my weight back. When I ate whatever I wanted during vacation, it was impossible for me to get back on the HCG. Not because it didn’t work for me, I was just simply burnt out trying to eat the same food again!! Now here in 2022, I don’t even know where to start.
hCG worked wonders for me too. I lost 40 lbs in my first month. That was in 2008. I just ordered hCG online the other day and started my first injection today.
When I hit a hold of my diet I noticed a big difference in my weight loss. The struggle and temptation is everywhere and I ended up doing a kitchen cabinet purge (donated anything unopened the rest went to family)to aid in resetting my eating habits.
You will see results at the start of a dramatic change to exercise habits but the body will normalise overtime even if you continue rigorously exercising. It’s not actually even a debate. It’s been solidly prove that the people with some of the most strenuous jobs (coal mining) vs sedentary office workers were metabolising at the same rate regardless of calories burned. The body compensates by limiting other functions. Also most of the research that recommends exercise over diet was funded by fast food corporations, particularly Coca-Cola.

I never would have described my Medifast experience as a crash diet. I did the Medifast program years ago. It was a wonderful experience...and I wasnt starved. The program had Coach/nutritionist who tailored my program based on my body type, composition, activity level, and when I got back to advance activities we shifted from calorie counting to learn about balancing macros and they helped me with healthy snacking options. I did start off lower calorie, and lost 40lbs, but once my activity level advanced to HIIT with Orange Theory Fitness...low calories were not an option and they recognized that quickly. My Coach at Medifast helped me navigate a 3000 calorie higher protein nutrient dense diet and I continued to see inches just fall off, without weight change but great muscle tone. I say all this to say, with Medifast it really depends on nutritionist you see and how you advocate for your needs.
I haven’t tried medifast but I did nutrisystem for a bit and the calories recommended for me lined up exactly with what was recommended by the tdee calculator. It’s not great long term as it’s processed food but it was a convenient way to get used to smaller more appropriate serving sizes. When people say it’s too low calorie It just makes me think they don’t know how it actually works.
I’ve heard a lot of doctors say they don’t recommend Lipo for weight loss not because it doesn’t help you to lose weight but because it could leave loose skin. They believed the intention of Lipo is to just help a problem area or two, I’m pro lipo lol
Lipo is often not recommended because many people think it's permanent not realizing or acknowledging that many times obesity is a lifestyle issue such as having little to no exercise before and after lipo.
100% agree with all points *except* #5. While exercise *generally* does not move the scale needle much, there are exceptions. Cardio interval training, for instance. I lost 15 pounds from that awhile back. *But* there are issues… it’s pretty intense, and some ppl will find it unsustainable, aka not something they’re willing to do long-term (I myself was not able to do it long-term back then, but am strongly considering taking it up again). ‘Cuz if you’re only willing to do something *temporarily,* the weight-loss from doing it will obviously only be temporary as well. 😕
I'm a 60 yo disabled veteran with obesity, BMI 35 and chronic hypertension (150/95 my norm WITH meds) sometimes higher. I have chronic pain and had two back surgeries in 6 years. I haven't started the meds yet but wanted to know what's your opinion of it and its implications?
I lost 140lb thru a sleeve surgery. I want to complete plastic surgery next year to remove my apron. Lipo is an option around the waist at the same time. In general, would you recommend lipo in this instance? Thanks.
Yeah I'm not sure what angle this doctor is coming from but nutrition is a cold equation of sorts... Sure eat healthy but if you're exercising and the calories you burn exercising is greater than your intake you will certainly lose weight. No doubt about it
No matter what you choose, diet, exercise or meds. Weight loss is not easy. I recently shared my story on my channel, on how I lost 22 pounds in 5 weeks, which could be really helpful to anyone struggling with weight loss.
My bed ridden, disabled family member lost 400 pounds, most of it without exercise because he could not walk. He did not use the word obese. He used the word FAT. He lost weight because he quit eating like a fat man … that is, he quit overeating. He taught himself how to walk again ( uses a cain), though it’s very difficult. Initially he ate anything in reasonable proportion. The last of the weight came off when he switched to fish ( no red meats or chicken or pork), no processed foods and rarely any sweets. He does have milk, eggs, potatoes, pasta, a lot of salsa, ice cream and few times a month, no juices, ‘some’ dark bread occasionally. He eats like a King, is skinny, not that much fat hanging. He still calls himself a fat man.
What if you have Lipedema which is a fat disorder that does not go away with exercise and improved nutrition. Would you still not recommended liposuction? Appreciate any guidance offered.
Lipo is for stubborn fat. For example, I've always had bigger arms. My whole life no matter how small I am. Once I get to my goal size I plan on getting lipo on my arms, for sure.
@@Key_1111 because of my PCOS the weight doesn't ever leave I work and work and work and I keep going back to the same wall of failure. It's frustrating to be 260lbs and never make it down past 240 for more than a few weeks and it's back.
Thank you for saying this, Doc. Most important - don't just go work out and expect much to happen. Sure it's good, but if you want to lose weight, you have to change your eating habits forever. Eat less calories and eat BETTER calories. Fill yourself up with better things. Unfortunately hunger still rears its head....and for those who can, Wegovy/Mounjaro/etc are doing amazing things, making us not feel like eating....makes us feel full. And not eating as much is what makes the difference.
Fasting definitely helps you control yourself so as not to eat poorly, fasting is more for the mindset vs weight loss, so when you're ready to return to a normal eating pattern you've control over your choices vs falling into bad habits.
Doc so you're saying diet is the key. Healthy and lean meats, veggies, fruits? Thanks for the advice! Can you please do a video on the 5 things you would always recommend FOR weight loss? Thanks!❤
Facts learned from exercise without changing my diet. Intense exercise without changing diet, caused me to eat less and have more energy. Probably all of the water I drank.
Prolonged Water fasting works. POWs lose weight from starvation. Excess stored fat will burn off first before true starvation happens. Im 5"11 and 370lbs. I can go without eating for at least a year likely. I need to be 155-180lbs at my height.
I take small issue with the exercise alone part. If you're on a fitness journey to improve your health and weight, and exercise is more manageable for you to do, then absolutely start there until you feel ready to tackle diet in parts. Changing everything all at once is not sustainable for most people. And food is usually much harder to change because of how society treats it.
Thank you. Exercise is AMAZING for so many reasons -- improved health, mobility, strength, mood, and longevity. It's just not that effective for weight, for MOST people. This isn't about delivering a pessimistic message. This is the reality and hopefully helps people who feel discouraged by their lack of weight loss via exercise.
Can you please comment on what DOES work for a postmenopausal woman 100 overweight with mobility limitations due to Degenerative Disc Disease and fused L-4 L-5?
Hi do keto diet or simply lower as much you SUGARIES and Carbs .I had no surgery I just refused, I changed my diet ,walk a cane, did PHYSICAL therapy. NOW BIG IMPROVEMENT, USE LESS CANE ,MORE MEDITATION, MORE WALKS,SERIOUS ON DIET ,LOW ITT.VERY GRATEFUL, VERY LOW TOLERABLE PAIN TO NO PAIN.REGAIN SLEEP.
The only way I lost weight was 600-800 calories a day. I kept it off too I needed to see quick results, or I would just fall back into old eating habits. I never bought any program, or used any company supplied food. I just found I don't need to eat so much 1200 calories, or 2000 calories whatever you want to say it is way too much for me. I'm small person only 5.6 about 5.5 which is short for a man. I think that is where I always gone wrong listening to the so called "Experts". The end goal is weight loss I dropped 50 lbs. in the first 4 months about 10lbs a week. I'm not hungry or weak. The truth is humans lived on this planet long before doctors ever knew anything.
I have been burning an extra 200 calories a day through exercise for about 13 months, which is 75,000 calories or just about a twenty pound deficit over a year. I’ve lost more like 10-12 pounds, but the first thing that the consistency with exercise helped with was stabilizing my weight. It took a solid six months before I really saw results. If you *only* added exercise, but you did religiously for long enough, you would see some weight loss, slowing down of gain, or stabilization. It’s math, but it’s a long term deal.
I been taking vitamins, staying away from sugar, sodas, eating small portions, exercising for years, and playing sports nonstop, but nothing works. I still have a lot of belly stubborn fat, and the only thing I bern considering is liposuction.
As a Christian I fast Friday sunset to Saturday sunset (Sabbath). After my first fast I lost a lot of weight and haven’t gained it back since. If you can’t handle a dry fast you can fast with only water!!!!

What about Red Light Therapy? Infrared Red Light Therapy, does that work? I had lipo on my outer thighs and 7 months its back. I want to have it done again but will it come back again?
Ever since I lost my full thyroid due to cancer I have been getting bigger and bigger each year. What type of foods should I be eating to loose weight. I've done everything there is
Does liposuction not literally suck out the fat so therefore you have less fat cells? So it would take a significant amount of time to regain the cells? (I know the leftover cells can easily increase in size but due to them being less in number than before, it takes far more effort to get back to pre-procedure weight) You can’t lose fat cells once you gain them, only shrink them.

I only drink water and i don’t eat junk food but I eat too much bread. If I go one day without bread i start panicking pls help me 🥺
Your need for bread could mean you are missing a specific nutrient that you are trying to fill yourself with bread. You can try to get a blood panel for any deficiencies. You can also try eating healthier breads or replacing your bread with healthier carbs. Are you eating enough protein for your weight and height and activities? You can also try finding a dietician who can help you determine the best lifestyle for you if you need more help understanding your bodies needs. Hope you figure it out. ❤️

@@lifeiswonderful22 pain to the point of fainting is not proof of exercise working .
@@JorviksWitcher You don't have to work out THAT hard. Going for a walk is also exercise. You'll shouldn't be fainting from walking.
I’m running everyday and walking for 1 week and I went from 122lbs to 118lbs, it’s not fast but it works
Well said!

How do you feel about GLP 1s such as Ozempic?
He’s right thank you
Fasting definitely helps you control yourself so as not to eat poorly, fasting is more for the mindset vs weight loss, so when you're ready to return to a normal eating pattern you've control over your choices vs falling into bad habits.
#5 - What if you gain muscle by strength training? That won’t help to burn calories?
Doc so you're saying diet is the key. Healthy and lean meats, veggies, fruits? Thanks for the advice! Can you please do a video on the 5 things you would always recommend FOR weight loss? Thanks!❤
5 things I WOULD do for weight loss. #doctor #5things #weightloss #obesity #weightlossjourney

You are right about the exercise, but exercise does create the correct mindset to keep going on whatever health initiatives you are working on
Facts learned from exercise without changing my diet.
Intense exercise without changing diet, caused me to eat less and have more energy.
Probably all of the water I drank.
Thank you.
What are your thoughts on procedures like Emsculpt?
Thanks for sharing
What are your thoughts on lipedema?
True. I worked out daily doing treadmill, then heavy weight lifting HIT, and watched my carbs ,lost onky 10 lbs.
Following!! I would love to learn more
The only way I lost weight was 600-800 calories a day.
My goal is to gain weight. Its so hard! I come to these videos to see what not to do
As a weightloss specialist, I'm doing 2 things:
1. physical exercise 60-90 minutes/day, 5 days/week
2. eat a carnivore diet, no alcohol, no smoking
You can't outrun a bad diet.
I been taking vitamins, staying away from sugar, sodas, eating small portions, exercising for years, and playing sports nonstop, but nothing works. I still have a lot of belly stubborn fat, and the only thing I bern considering is liposuction.
I had no idea that they were trying to pass HCG off as a weight-loss thing!! Lol
What are your thoughts on metformin?
As a Christian I fast Friday sunset to Saturday sunset (Sabbath). After my first fast I lost a lot of weight and haven’t gained it back since. If you can’t handle a dry fast you can fast with only water!!!!
I'm 135 lbs, his father was very thin. I'm trying to help him. He's 22, very amazing man, but very low self esteem. He's almost 500 lbs.. kindest person.
I will say a prayer & send positive vibes your way!
Look into semaglutide
What about Red Light Therapy? Infrared Red Light Therapy, does that work? I had lipo on my outer thighs and 7 months its back. I want to have it done again but will it come back again?
No, that doesn’t work for weight.
Currently experiencing number 5😂
Hi doc is that weight loss supplement called alpilean is legit?? Please make next video on it..
I was just debating #5 with my know-it-all obese husband and he didn't believe me.
I lost all my weight on HCG worked fine
Sir what is side effect off phenq tablets sir for weight loss sir
Ever since I lost my full thyroid due to cancer I have been getting bigger and bigger each year. What type of foods should I be eating to loose weight. I've done everything there is
Oatmeal protein cherry juice
What about semaglutamide injections?
Does liposuction not literally suck out the fat so therefore you have less fat cells? So it would take a significant amount of time to regain the cells? (I know the leftover cells can easily increase in size but due to them being less in number than before, it takes far more effort to get back to pre-procedure weight) You can’t lose fat cells once you gain them, only shrink them.
Your views on Tirzepatide, semaglutide?
Great medications. There’s a reason they are hailed as game-changers. See my separate videos on this topic! There’s pros and cons, barriers to access, and many nuances. But they are the most effective weight loss meds ever and are offering real results for patients.
What is your take on alpha lipoic acid
Had gained almost 25 kgs on an year course of ssri, im on a lifestyle change targeting to lose weight have lost 9, but with fhe heaviness sometimes its difficult and lazy, thinking of getting some kgs off like 10 kgs with lipo while continuing the wrkout and diet check. Will it be ok? Pls do suggest
thank u 🙏
Hcg could help if your natural LH is low meaning your signalling to the testes to produce test is low
Yep. Just do the work.
He didn’t mention cutting out All sugar and carbs; The Carnivore Diet works wonders!
Lipo is now right loss solution but it is a solution for lipedema patients and it should be paid for by insurance.
Hi what’s your thoughts on metformin?
Metaformin is a diabetic medication that’s used to curve bad appetite
How could I change my diet without being too restrictive? I’ve tried keto last year but I was too restrictive which led to an eating disorder. I go to the gym but changing my diet is too hard.
Currently doing optifast right now
Best weight loss methods: orange juice, raw carrots, low fat milk, coconut oil, some starches and cod twice a week.
If you find a hernia during ESG, are you able to reduce it?
We cannot fix a hernia during ESG. That would require surgery. However, a hernia rarely represents a contraindication to performing an ESG. It would only be an issue if it was greater than 4-5cm in size, which is quite large.
What are your thoughts on b12 and lipotrophic injections?
Same question I have
Same
No and no. Don’t waste your money.
@DrMcGowanMD can you share your opinion on B6 and B1 inj? I've started the mediweightloss program.
What about ozempic ?
I been using saxenda pen and lost 20 kilograms in 7 weeks so it does work
Wow, that is amazing. Well done!! I am tempted to try it, does the injection hurt?
Saxenda, and the GLP-1 meds (including Wegovy) are excellent options for the treatment of weight. I completely agree!
@@DrMcGowanMDwhat about slimming patches

Optifast..yup, lost 100 pounds. Regained 150.
Realistically what’s the difference between eating 1500 a day of things with a lot of sodium, carbs, and sugar vs 1500 a day of greens, low carbs, and low sugars?
Excellent
59 yrs. 5 7inch and I used to weight 412 and I drop 83 lbs just eating healthy no fry foods no sweets more vegetables and now I weigh 303lbs . But I was told by Gastrol weight Dr. I have lose 30lbs and my knee doctor say to loose 50lbs to get knee replacement surgery. What do not understand my friend she 5ft 2inches she weigh 400 lbs and they did her surgery with out asking her to drop 30 lbs frist. It crazy I feel this reason for their refusal to help me is very sad. I know I'm not eating more then 15,000 per day. I do water excrise because of disability. Who can I talk to about this problem. Every day I'm fighting with the scale. Why do I have to jump to so many hoops. When I'm not 600.lb I'm 305 lbs.
Does lipotropic shots help to burn body fat faster together with low cal diet and weight lifting ?
How could I ever forget about the hCG fad!!
I have felt my best with hcg. Some ppl are best with some things.
Question Doc: tummy tuck or esg
Depends on your goals! ESG is a weight loss procedure, whereas a tummy tuck is purely for body contouring and cosmetic purposes. Completely different.
Are you saying peptides such as semorelin are a scam? Would you explain?
Can I use carnitine 1500 mg I am breastfeeding mother I buy it but I want some advice plz guys
