  • Hi & Welcome at my Channel ;)
    On this Video we have one of the biggest fail from Sony ever, YEP im talking about the PS3 Modell CECH-H04
    The H04 has the Fan on the Left side, not on the right side, all PS3 FAT Consoles that gots the Fan on the Left side, are a big Fail we can say!
    But whatever, on FAT Consoles that haves the Fan on the left side, like the H04, for this Consoles i just recoment u that u do the holes for better air flow...
    So, on this Video i show you how to fix a YLOD with using AMTECH Flux, ones of the best in my eyes.
    You can begin to Reflow with 400C* for 5min, than go for 450C* for 5mins, 500C* for 5mins, 550C* and then 600C* also for 5mins.
    At last let it cool down a bit, and than take rest of flux out.
    Here you can also see how the Flux working and how the Solding balls looks like after my clean work: • PS3 & PS4 overheat iss...
    If you have some questions, than just feel free to leave me a comment and Subscribe to my Channel if u like ;)

      Yea, no problem ;)
      The H versions are very hot, cause the Fan seats on the left side, so it gets not enough air, you should also do some hole on your case to avoid those YLOD´s
      Peace ;)

    Hello. I have a Fat 40GB. I had HDMI problems and then I re-soldered the HDMI and changed the thermal paste. The PS3 worked for a few seconds then now I'm stucked into this 3 bips with red light. Do you think I should remove the covers from the CPU and GPU for reflowing?
    Danke

    You know this video has been 8 years but I'm glad it's out there.
    I've been breaking my balls over this CECHC fat, it randomly shuts off, 3 beeps and flashing red light. No warnings whatsoever.
    Gave it multiple new hard drives, and a used PSU, no dice
    I used Black ops 2 as a benchmark, I usually last 20 minutes in the game, after delidding it did around 40-60 minutes before it shut down. Then I cut losses and decided to try reflowing, I used 480 degrees max, watching this video as I did it.
    I had no hopes, but man I've been playing for over an hour now, reached round 20 multiple times playing zombies, it has yet to shut off. Also crazy thermals due to delid
    NSC my man, you're a SAINT
    (Also this is error 1001 on syscon)

    Hello, I love your videos, they are very helpful. I just wish I had found them before my ps3 got the ylod. But I'm gonna try to fix it your way cause it looks like the best I've seen so far. But I am wondering if you could do a tutorial on putting the holes in the bottom of the ps3. It seems to me that if you put too many it would be more harmful than anything. I'm curious about placement and what tool you use to make the nice clean holes that are places just so perfectly in a circle. Thanks again for making so many good videos about the ps3 and how to repair it.

  • @angryrepairgeek3683

    Great video, thanks!
    Would you list in the description the amount of time that you used the heat gun at 300 degrees, 400 degrees, 500 degrees, etc? That part confused me.
    Would it be okay to reflow the solder in a kitchen oven, instead of using a heat gun?
    Lastly, what is your opinion of "no clean flux"? So far I have been using ChipQuik No-Clean Paste Flux. It comes in a tiny needle syringe.

    Hi UltraNSC, nice to see someone like you replying to the comments :) I have a question that very few people answer... I have here ps3 with YLOD. I have seen mixed opinions about how to approach this problem. People that do reflows and say it's ok, and other people that say that only reballing resolve this problem for good. In your experience, how many time does a reflow last?

I have an CECHH01 with YLOD for first time, unfortunately I trusted in someone who did a bad job... anyhow will we the first reflowing job on that motherboard. you need a great FLUX, the AMTECH Flux is ones of the best, you also need a Heat Gun, try to get one with an Temperatur Display, so you can check it better...
      If, but just IF you like to open the Heatspreaders, then you should get a Razor blade for the RSX Chip, and you should do your self a great tool like i have done for the CELL CPU, because the CELL is VERY Danger to open if you got the wrong Tools...

      you can try to reflow it again, but only the RSX / GPU
      try also if it works with a Scart Cable, maybe it´s just the Resolution that makes problems

    Just checked and I've got the CHECHKO3 model. Older?
    I just did a basic reflow the other night, without removing heat spreaders, and just using a hairdryer, as don't have a heat gun or flux yet. YLOD is still there, but goes after unit has heated up. (only seems to occur when unit is cold).
    Great video, I will observe for next attempt.

    Hey I have a game coming in the mail in a day or two,and it is a cechh01,and the person I bought it from in the description said he took care of it,he had to if he had it for 7 years,well any way during that time period I know for sure maintenance need to be done from keeping it from going YLOD.I he said it works just fine and the fans spin high though,so I do not need to reball or reflow or anything I need to prevent,I was thinking of sending the game to you so you could replace the theremal grease under the heat spreader and on top,and then put the holes at the bottom.I know I can do this my self but what is making me paranoid is taking the heat spreader off the cpu,when I try to take it off the cpu it is a lot harder to take off,but the gpu comes off with little effort.

  • @hacker8253
    @hacker8253 Před 10 lety +1

    Hey to everybody looking at this video.Most of you will get the heatgun from ebay that says drill master its very cheap and it works.NSC is right.It needs 600c for the solder to liquify.I put the heat gun on low and it would not melt for nothing.Then I put it on high wich is 600c the solder melted in 80secs.trust me I tried it on a few boards to make sure the time is the same.It was about one inch away from the board,and I was constantly moving it in a circular motion.It is about 80secs for the GPU AND CPU.But for that other chip like the south bridge it took 45secs.For the other smaller one it took 25secs.

    • @NSC-Modz
      @NSC-Modz  Před 10 lety +1

      Thats right, but for peoples who does this the first time, and wants to Repair a YLOD thei can do it at 450-500C just to be safe ;)

    • @hacker8253
      @hacker8253 Před 10 lety

      Yea my heat gun on low which is 572F would not melt it,but on high my heat gun goes to 1112f so I have to kinda keep it away from the board to make it lower then 1112 and not keep it on long or it will do damage.

      @NSC-Modz  Před 10 lety

      Hi
      Also, ich sags mal so, eine PS3 zu Reflowen ohne nichts zu benutzen läuft so ca. 2-3 Monate MAXIMAL... Wenn man Lötwasser benutzt auf jeden fall 3 Monate... Wenn man AMTECH Flux benutzt bis zu 9 Monate, meine erste die ich mit Amtech flux gemacht hab, läuft seit knapp 9 Monate ;)
      Die hier läuft jetzt auch schon seit 7 Monate:
      PS3 FAT External PSU Replacement -Mod- By:NS©
      Wenn mal es also wie ich hier mit AMTECH Flux macht + Löcher am Gehäuse + Lüfter Regler damit man den etwas schneller einstellen kann, dann kannst du davon ausgehen das die VERDAMMT lange läuft ;)
      Es kommt auch immer drauf an was die PS3 davor alles erlebt hat, wenn es eine PS3 war die schon xxx mal Reflowt wurde, oder wie manch andere in den Backoffen rein getan haben, dann kann ich für nix mehr garantieren :\
      Aber mein Rekord lieg jetzt schon bei ca. 9 Monaten ;) Natürlich wurde bei der PS3 das volle Programm gemacht, IHS geköpft, mit AMTECH Flux auf einem harten 5cm Buchen Brett befestigt und Reflowt damit sich die Platine nicht verbiegt, Löcher am Gehäuse ran wegen bessere Luft zufuhr, Lüfter Regler dran, und schon hast du eine PS3 die bis zu 30C* kühler läuft, wenn das kein Ergebnis ist, dann weiß ich auch nicht ^^

      Mit Lötwasser wäre ich vorsichtig, viele von der Sorte sind Säurehaltig.. dann geht nichts mehr.. hab mir mal bei was Selbst gebastelten Tage & Nächte um die Ohren geschlagen weil ich so blöd war Lötwasser zu nutzen, nach dem ich die komplette Schaltung in Spiritus einlegte und mit Pressluft reinigte funktionierte die Schaltung ohne das ich was um gelötet hätte.

  • @Handi75
    @Handi75 Před 10 lety

    The ONLY problem I see so far UltraNSC is that you aren't supposed to heat up on Unlevel Table. Meaning heating up right now with it on it's end even to drain some of the Flux out because it can cause the Chips to Slide and make unwanted connections with the Soldering Balls. Next time, just leave it on a Flat Surface and get some flux that's a little more liquefied this will solve the issue... Other then that, Good Video

    why you don't use "No Clean Flux" in a dispenser pen? It would flow trough the hole chip, without heating the flux.

    People before you to do anything to your PS3, take the hard drive out and clean it with compress air and inside the hard drive apartment. I'm not guaranteeing you that it will fix the problem, but it did for me! :)

      UltraNSC Does GLOD mean it's a GPU issue? Thanks

    • @NSC-Modz
      @NSC-Modz  Před 9 lety

      it depends... mostly it´s the CPU...

  • @NSC-Modz
    @NSC-Modz  Před 10 lety

    yes, without flux u will maybe make it work, but not for long tome and without flux u destroy the sold balls under the Chip more...
    the flux makes the Sold balls conntacts under the Chips good again.
    cheers ;)

    I got the YLOD a month again. I got the same system like yours :) . Can I just heat the CPU GPU instead adding the flux?

    • @NSC-Modz
      @NSC-Modz  Před 10 lety

      i would not... ist better for the sold balls if you use the Flux
      without the Flux the sold gets more damage.
      Regards

      @ps3gameplays4u36 Před 10 lety

      Thanks. But I'm stuck because I have no heat gun. So I will use a hairdryer for about 10 minutes on the back and the front. Its better then nothing.
