    Language is amazing. It’s more fun and everything. No stress and I enjoy it so much. I’m not depressed as I was in the LPN program.

    I was going to school to be a RN or Medical assistant just to be able to get experience and do the travel part, but wow after coming across your videos this is kind of up the same alley for me, less schooling less debt or no debt at all, I am intrigued and like the surgical aspect part of it working in an operating or surgical room as a surgeon operates on a patient seems like it will never be a dull moment, this seems like less stress and less time than all the stress that comes with nursing this seems more fun!

    These rates are definitely not post-covid...and honestly pretty low for my area to begin with. Most techs in the northeast make in the low 20s an hour to begin, in the 30s/hr after a couple of years....some places like surgery centers (that lack the added income of call) pay more ..$30+/hr to start.. The hospital system near me is hiring their own traveler CSTs at $63 an hour plus expenses. If you are making anything close to $14 an hour as a tech in 2023 it is time to move!

      @abbieanderson3191 there is a huge demand here and it's a big hospital system....I know scrubs who have left my hospital to get more than 4k a week to travel, so this makes fiscal sense as Ling as the shortage lasts...it's cheaper for the hospital....and as a permanent position it's more stable for employees.

    May you do a vid about the process that hospitals take when they buy equipment and supplies?
    Who's in change of it and who does the seller speak to.
    And why do hospitals waste so much on things that are less expensive elsewhere
    And how many disposables does a hospital go through per year
    (I'm sure it's so much)
    Why abandoned hospitals have so much abandoned perfectly good equipment and why aren't they used for lesser funded clinics and hospitals
    Stuff like that

      I suppose? But why?

    • @nai689
      @nai689 Před 5 lety

      @@SurgicalTechTips Well I recently went to a Surgical Technology information session because I've been interested on taking the class. The surg tech who was speaking mentioned the bad smells. I didn't think of the question until I had already left. I don't like smelling things that stink, (I'm sure no one does) like if there's a way to block your nose from not smelling anything in the OR that would be awesome... But I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now to build up the courage and gain a little bit of knowledge, I figured why not ask.

    • @SurgicalTechTips
      @SurgicalTechTips  Před 5 lety +6

      Well, you are not allowed to wear things like jewelry in the OR, nose plugs may be included in that...what if they came undone on your nose, fell into the mask, and possibly out of it? Ways to get around the smells are just breathing through your nose, or rubbing some essence of mint on your mask before you scrub. Plenty of people do the mint on really bad cases.

    • @nai689
      @nai689 Před 5 lety

      @@SurgicalTechTips oh thank you so much. That makes a lot of sense. I didn't know about the essence. I definitely feel better knowing that.

    • @rquinn0111
      @rquinn0111 Před 4 lety

      Usually anesthesia carry these scents to spray on oxygen masks for kids so they like it more. They have strawberry, and bubblegum scents, maybe grape. If staff know they are going to get a smelly case, they can spray some of this stuff inside their mask. If they don't have it, you can probably find something similar on your own. It doesn't remove the smell entirely, but it helps.
      I've never heard of anyone plugging up their nose, unless they have a bad runny nose. Honestly, it's better to take the sick day, it's torture to have a runny nose while scrubbed in. ;)
