  • A comparison between our long-term test roadsters - BMW F900R and Honda CB650R: riders.drivemag.com/features/...
    Different engine, different style, different attitude. The Honda features the classic inline-four configuration, coupled with a cool headlight, while BMW features a completely new engine, derived from the one on the F850GS.

    So the CB650R wins right guys? :D Nice comparison, I own the CB650R but I've test ridden the F900R. The F900R definitely feels more lively in corners and lighter but heavier at a standstill (because it is). While power is only 10bhp more on the BMW it has almost 30NM more torque and I really noticed that, but then I love revving the CB650R all the way to 12,000rpm too. The biggest selling point in the UK for the CB650R is the price, £7200 new and the BMW is £8900 in standard spec. If I had £9k to spend I'd also be looking at the new Street Triple R as that's a bargain!

    I was thinking of buying the CB650R last year, but there wasn't one for test ride, so I didn't want to commit blindly. Then on EICMA 2019 BMW introduced the F900R and it really caught my attention. I got mine yesterday and I already love it! The price difference of the one I specked is not that much more compared to the Honda, 2000 EUR, but it has so much more tech. And that torque is addictive. And yes even now only 250km into it it already is capable of 5 l/100km.

If a man can only have one bike. Anyways though, I was comparing this bike to the Z900. The Kawi was very tempting if I were looking for outright power for the class, but ultimately chose the Beemer for its touring potential with cruise control and other niceties 🙂Will also add though, I might be in the minority here, but I typically find inline 4s to sound a bit bland or monotone. The F900’s twin in particular is really full of character and that’s just the stock exhaust!

      It's one of the most expensive 600's in the market. Nothing budget about an inline 4 compared to a parallel twin. It also makes more power than most of its competitors in the class. The inline 4 trades torque for rpm which is better for hp. Honda just has a different approach than the rest in this segment. Yamaha went for the opposite approach and kawasaki.... well idk what they were thinking other than budget friendly bikes.

    • @BlackSun3Tube
      @BlackSun3Tube Před 3 lety

      @@krp-xe3hw I meant, about budget, that it has not the price of a big bike, considering buying and maintaining costs.
      I love the look, and am quite sure it has the Honda productions qualities: easy to drive, secure, not really sport design - even if the brand seems to have done an effort here, on this "dark side" of a bike.
      Most testers do enforce that idea, including pro ones.
      Now, for every day ride, I think a little 650 four cylinders may not be the good choice for an experienced rider, because of the lack of torque, and even more at low revs, when speed limit is not exceeded.
      But for a beginner, such specifications can give a better feeling and control than a 2 cylinders, generally a bit more brutal even with assists.
