I love how Al takes it to another level when he realizes that he is a victim. He is one of the most capable ruthless brilliant badass cinematic antiheroes that I ever saw. Near the top of a very selective list. My hat is off to you Mr. McShane.
The writing in this show was beyond belief. David used to write it extemporaneously. My favorite scene which sort of encapsulates the whole show was when Al ordered the assassination of the San Francisco-based tong to benefit Wu's group and afterward the overjoyed and grateful Wu shows up under Al's balcony and shouts, "Wu, American!" and proceeds to cut off his trademark Chinese hair bob. And a visibly moved Al replies "And, she will clutch you to her bosom."
My sister in law is a Chinese immigrant and I’m an Italian from the Bronx . We love each other like sisters but sometimes our conversations be sounding like this .. (she would laugh at that too . )I love this because we love each other trust each other even when we totally don’t get what the other is saying . Brings me joy !
My cuz and I would never miss an episode. It had us inthralled. Could not wait till the next episode. Loved the language, dialogue, plots. Great acting and all actors. Really heart broken when we found out about the cancellation. 😢
Always cracks me up - Swearingen was smart enough to know his life would be lot easier if he could get someone to teach basic English to Wu, but he never did it.
I remember reading somewhere that Wu's "Barq-kwi logee" (phonetically of course) is a derogatory term for Caucasians meaning something like 'ghostly whites' or the more modern 'lily white MF'ers'. I think Wu understood much more than he let on-he had a knack for reading Al's expressions and gesticulations with Al playing the part of 'translator' for the audience. When mutual business gets upset, watch out for the Al and Wu dynamic duo. Love this show.
"Baak Gwai Lo" in Cantonese literally means "(White) ghost guy/person." Back when the British came to China in the 1800s, Guangzhou and Hong Kong ports were the ones they used. The locals had never seen people with such pale skin, much like what they imagined a ghost to look like. You're absolutely right though, Wu understood more than he could speak. Their relationship was hilarious yet awesome!
A favorite of mine too and add to that as well when Mrs. Garrett asks Swearingen to mind his language when they are conversing. Profanity being so natural to him, after a good start, he lapses into it and has to think a second to figure out if he even said a bad word. Great acting as always by both actors.
What an outstanding performance that was, thrue that whole serie. McShane did a hell of a job. Too bad they couldn’t finance it and end that fine serie with honour and pride.

My hat is off to you Mr. McShane.
Bruh got active AF.
I have to agree with that statement 100%
I love how Al is completely calm until he realizes the actions have impacted his own inventory of product... then he starts to get agitated.
A ruthless diehard businessman with a soft heart that he’s very good at hiding.
"I'm glad I taught you that word"
Funniest line in the whole shoe IMHO
😂😂😂😂
I picture Wu and Swedgin casually walking down the thoroughfare pointing at random people calling them cocksuckers together.

Al actually said 'tit'.
This reminds me of every conversation I had at bars when I was stationed in Korea.

Can't believe I've never watched this. It looks absolutely amazing.
Do whatever you have to do to watch this series. It is phenomenal. Ian Mcshane deserves 10 oscars.
Bet western ever, possibly the best show ever, and at least the ending didn't suck even if we had to way 13 years for the movie.
It was a brilliantly written show. One of my top 5 all time series. Up there with HBOs rome, sopranos etc. Not entirely made for mass appeal.
It's especially great if you're a fan of authenticity. No green screens and bullshit like that.
Still cant believe hbo stopped this show way to early😢 this is one of the best
too
Me to
It took them to long to get another season ready and by that time the actors had outs in their contracts to pursue other work.
Wasn't HBO. The Show runner got a better offer to do something else.
Before I clicked the video, I said a little prayer that it would be this scene with Mr. Wu. Man, I was not disappointed
America, overcoming language barriers of over 200 years...
Priceless scene. The last word from Wu (hilarious).
You mean one of WUs 4 word ever spoken in the show?
Coxucker, San Fransisko, Big man :)
0:13 "NNYYIIAANNGG" - Mr. Wu
With all the wonderfully explicit lines in this scene, the ending “aw jeez” by Al, is the funniest part
I now have a autograph of "San Francisco cocksucka!" from Wu's actor!
@@JnEricsonx people must ask him to say it all the time
@@frankdascoli709 I very tentatively asked. And he was like, people love that line no problem!
@@robwilliams6753 the contrast of explicit lines to aww jeez. Comprehend much?
Who? WU!?? WHO!?!?!?
definitely season 1
This was classic "Wooos" on first!
Nice!
Wu's voice cracks kill me 😂
Walked in through the front fucking door.

Idk how McShane kept a straight face during these scenes. I'd love to see bloopers of Mr. Wu scenes.
They are indeed on here..............
Swingin, Wu - heng dai
Heng dai, fuckin' Wu.
Such a great show.
I want to know how many takes it took to get through this scene before noone burst out laughing
If that’s not that the greatest scene ever I don’t know what is.
What an outstanding performance that was, thrue that whole serie. McShane did a hell of a job. Too bad they couldn’t finance it and end that fine serie with honour and pride.
A western take on the Abbott and Castello Whose on First comedic act.
Pure gold!
I loved this scene! My favourite too!
…I might need to watch this show
You definitely should
This scene is funny in so many ways… the drawing alone! 😅
The only show I can rewatch more than once, fckin Al cracks me up 😂
Abbot and Costello
Yeah, “Who’s on first?”
:))))))) I'm not laughing, I'm screaming out loud, guys :)))))
If rdr was made into a movie Ian would have to play dutch
Teah...it ranks alright. Cheers for the memory.

I don't think the orientation of the thief is relevant.

What's so great about it? They just curse a lot.
Watch the entire show + movie, you'll see the depth and breath of the dialogue in spades.

Sounds like a Abbott and Costello skit
