Ian(and the writers) ripped westerns out of the ground and created a legend. A staple. True western fans love this guy. I tried so hard to not cuss like him in this comment.
And the irony is the "can be combative" bit was direction in the script, NOT a actual line, it was referring how he should say "Welcome to fucking Deadwood."
Deadwood - best series on television, period. There have been others that have been good, well written and acted but nothing like this. Ended way before it should have. Acting, writing, direction, set design, all of it superlative. I have watched the series several times through and am amazed at how I see/hear things I have missed, even after watching the series repeatedly ! The writing is "dense" in a way, at least some of it is, so you have to think about it for a moment, what did I just hear ? Other parts are immediate and direct without chance of mistake or wrong interpretation. Absolutely brilliant !!!!
I can't wait to see him on GOT ! He is one of the finest actors out there. I know whatever role he plays he will do it with style and a little bit of Al Swearengens twinkle in his eye ! Love this man ! 💖
Best series ever ! Also al had some of the best one liners ever. IMHO the entire cast is top notch, each character was interesting and engaging, even the chick sweeping gave the whole thing depth. I watch the entire series every once in a while.
reminds me so much of my old man. looked like him, same voice, about the same height, same eyes. rip the old geezer, was a top bloke. Old age wouldn't have suited him
Manny Suarez Yup, they announced they hired him for next season. No word on what character he will play but he should fit right in perfectly in GOT's crazy nasty world :)
I'm watching this series for the umpteenth time and I just noticed something new - which, of course, is one of the reasons why this series is so incredible. Al Swearengen has a phrase he uses to describe certain people to others who don't know them (yet): "He's (she's) alright". And the wonderful thing is, those he describes as "alright" ARE alright - good people of integrity. Just another demonstration of the depth and complexity of this incredible character.
“What’s your posture, Bullock?” I just finished the show for the first time and that was some of the best dialogue I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching… Incredible all around, but Ian… 👏👏👏👏👏 Hats off to you sir! 🙇♂️🎻🤠
Ian(and the writers) ripped westerns out of the ground and created a legend. A staple. True western fans love this guy. I tried so hard to not cuss like him in this comment.
Deadwood, Rome, the new Battlestar Galactica, 24, and Boston Legal are all in my pantheon of great TV Series...and only one of them remains on air. This, by far, was one of the greatest series ever and Swearengen the best character.
From the main cast to the extras, Deadwood was a masterpiece. Those end credit songs were awesome. The movie had me tearing up during that auction scene. ~_~
sopranos and wire are about equal. deadwood is above everything. David Milch is a genius wordsmith. Combining the poetic/theatrical "elevated" language with the vulgarity was the perfect combination. Some people criticize deadwood for the rampant swearing, but are they listening to the words in between?
Okay. So I couldn't sleep the other night. Went to my Ultimate History Channel quiz app. One of the questions was who was killed by Ford in the late 1880s. The choices were Jesse James, Wild Bill Hickok, Billy the Kid, and Ian McShane. NOT kidding!!
Something I just noticed - although I have seen the series countless times - is when Swearengen says someone is "alright," they actually are. He is a good judge of personal integrity. He used "alright" to describe Merrick, Langrish, and Joanie Stubbs - and probably others.
I haven't watched this show before. I just watched the movie Hot Rod with Ian McShane and Andy Samberg; I liked Ian's character so much that I just started looking up other things he's been in. He is now one of my favorite actors. He is an extremely versatile actor.
What's interesting to me...is that not much really happened in this show, that did no involve Swearengen. Anything without his involvement was moderately interesting. He was the show.
If anyone thinks life was cool and simpler back then, imagine dying of kidney stones, UTI, amonia, staff infection (any kind of wound), or just being unable to work. And basicly any illness. Let's applaude ourselves in 2020, because we nailed this tragedy.
Why HBO Max isn’t busy making a Deadwood prequel I’ll never know. I can think of at least 3 off the type of my head 1. Al Swearengen as a young kid helping raise his brother (the one with seizures) into his earlier years 2. Explore years before when Al was on the run and his adventures with Jack the theater actor up until he heads out and helps build Deadwood with Dan, Tom Nuttall, Johnny, and EB 3. Set the story from Bullocks point of view. It could start in Montana with him as a marshal and maybe introduce him mentor and tell his brothers story. That’s just three potential versions from a fanboy. Writers could do something really good.
Incredible show. I know historically they mix 20-40 years worth of time and characters, but visually and audibly they do have speech, clothing and sets perfect for the time. I wish it could come back. Come on movie, do well.
"Now, I wanna know who cut the cheese... I'll say right now, that who ever farts in this office and doesn't own up to it, is going off the fucking balcony head-first into the fucking muck! Let's see how you like farting from that fucking position!'
One of the greatest characters of all time. It’s unfortunate not very many people have heard of or even watched this masterpiece of a show.
@@allureofthelens8858 I would have given anything for a few more Al vs Wild Bill scenes, they were amazing to witness.
did u like the movie?
So tremendously agreed. He is genius .
I dropped it cuz it was so frickin boring and the characters were all annoying
@lifeisberserk9566 just admit you have the attention span of a child lmao go watch Marvel shows then, that would be more on your level
"anyhow, thanks for brushin against my prick" the delivery
I just rewatched the whole series again (for the 3rd time) and am almost brought to tears that there are only 3 seasons. This show was exceptional.
4th round going now:)
Im on the 4th go around also.
They've made a movie now dude wrapping up the finale of the show.
Sometimes I get as mad as Bullock when I think: Big Bang Theory-11 seasons. Deadwood-3 seasons.
if i could warp to a different demention i'd choose the one where deadwood didn't get cancelled
Ian McShane is ridiculously good in this, it's frightening👏👏
Sometimes a man is born to play that one role. This is that one role for Ian...
He's been great since his days on the BBC playing a dodgy antique dealer.
I saw him in Game of Thrones and Ray Donovan , as recurrent character ! He is a great actor !!
Ian(and the writers) ripped westerns out of the ground and created a legend. A staple. True western fans love this guy.
I tried so hard to not cuss like him in this comment.
My daughter and I pay homage to David Milch's Deadwood: czcams.com/video/1HXC9azwn2U/video.html
One of the best characters in the history of television.
I'm in love!
Believe it or not, the real guy was even worse.
💯💯💯
"we teach a special sweeping technique here...follow her lead" lol one of his best lines
Al was easily the best character by far.
Yes, I chose Al as my favorite character but he had to grow on me. Second fav would be Joni Stubbs.
My daughter and I pay homage to David Milch's Deadwood: czcams.com/video/1HXC9azwn2U/video.html
"Centuries of fucking inbreeding, attuned him to the necessities of the times"
Deadwood easily have the best dialogues I have ever seen in my life.
Al and Trixie shitting on jews is the best part of the whole show. Back when people in show business still had balls.
"Welcome to fucking Deadwood." One of my favorite lines. Badass, even after a brutal fight. One of my favorite lines. Love this show.
And the irony is the "can be combative" bit was direction in the script, NOT a actual line, it was referring how he should say "Welcome to fucking Deadwood."
"He's alwayyyyys draggin' that fuckin' leg." Brilliant
She*
Season 2 Episode 7 "He"*
Jewel to Al. One of the best moments of the show. You don't remember?
Ehh, I prefer when Al says it.
"...anyhow, thanks for brushing against my prick."
Al Swear Engine
This comment is too underrated.
Lmfao
"I lose patience with cunts too ignorant to know when their lots improved." Best fucking line ever. I love Al Swearengen.
Christian Hoffmann True! Hard to top.
"Announcing your plans is a good way to make God laugh" wow!
Yep, and actually it's from an old yiddish saying, "if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans." But way better delivered by Ian McShane!
during COVID it seems even more to be the case. that is if you're a believer.
"stay the fuck away from him, I'm having mine served cold"
Such a badass.
"First one to touch me, I kill." Losing a finger and yet he still refuses to show weakness, how can you not love this guy?
Al is the heart and soul of deadwood
"Us! You and me! Come to me in a vision, you stupid bastard" sheer gold lmao
Probably the most interesting character in TV history.
Deadwood - best series on television, period. There have been others that have been good, well written and acted but nothing like this. Ended way before it should have. "I'm a fucking Septon"
"John Wick, what have you fucking done on fucking continental fucking grounds"!!!
Best series ever ! Also al had some of the best one liners ever. IMHO the entire cast is top notch, each character was interesting and engaging, even the chick sweeping gave the whole thing depth. I watch the entire series every once in a while.
THE theatre angle from season 3 is awful
RonnyUniverse They’re alright.
reminds me so much of my old man. looked like him, same voice, about the same height, same eyes.
rip the old geezer, was a top bloke. Old age wouldn't have suited him
The dynamic with him and jewel was my favorite.
Who still watching in 2019
Deadwood is the best western show to this day!!!😍
Al's helping me in spirit while i'm recovering from surgery.
Quite possibly the greatest actor I've ever seen.
Definitely the best TV show.
I miss this show so much, I almost wish I never saw it.
My daughter and I pay homage to David Milch's Deadwood: czcams.com/video/1HXC9azwn2U/video.html
McShane performance in this thing was huge. Absolutely stole the show in every occasion.
TheGrandeperuzzi ... i think Calamity Jane stole it.
He's an amazing guy. Like Hopkins. The Bounty and Silence of the Lambs!
TheGrandeperuzzi: exactly my idea!
I came for Wild Bill and I stayed for Swearengen.
His best work after Lovejoy of course
One of the best performances ever imo. can't wait to see him on GOT
No freggin way !really he got cast on Got?
Manny Suarez Yup, they announced they hired him for next season. No word on what character he will play but he should fit right in perfectly in GOT's crazy nasty world :)
Awesome he fits perfectly there's a few others I'd love to be in it especially considering how this guy murders you fave characters
+Manny Suarez not sure though who he will play, the description sounds like it could be a greyjoy......hmm
+kozzy420420 BEST... NEWS...EVER!!!!
There's a reason he swears so much and so well. His name is SWEAR ENGINE. :-)
Ahh ha ha good one 😊

I really cant think of another actor who would have done it this well.
Brilliantly written and perfectly acted. One of the most vivid characters and greatest creations in the history of television.
Can’t stop hitting the replay button.
“What’s your posture, Bullock?” I just finished the show for the first time and that was some of the best dialogue I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching… Incredible all around, but Ian… 👏👏👏👏👏 Hats off to you sir! 🙇♂️🎻🤠
Ian McShane playing him is like David Duchovny playing Fox Mulder!
There is no way any other actor cud pull it off!!
Ian(and the writers) ripped westerns out of the ground and created a legend. A staple. True western fans love this guy.
I tried so hard to not cuss like him in this comment.
Looks like it's gonna be one of those days I need to hear some dam Al Swearengen wisdom. Give some punishment back
Deadwood, Rome, the new Battlestar Galactica, 24, and Boston Legal are all in my pantheon of great TV Series...and only one of them remains on air. This, by far, was one of the greatest series ever and Swearengen the best character.
Great video. Al Swearengen has to be one of the best charcters on TV ever.
Al / Ian . . .
Another G O A T .
Greatest
Of
All
Time.
Every scene he's in is the best!
This has already been said a million times: Al Swearengen = Best Tv Character EVER!
"clean somewhere where I can't see you"
From the main cast to the extras, Deadwood was a masterpiece. Those end credit songs were awesome. The movie had me tearing up during that auction scene. ~_~
"y'know i'm half-way thinking this exaggerates the condition rather than alleviates it."
FUCKIN DEAD
One of the best characters I've seen - admirable character - incredible acting.
Ian McShane is an amazing guy! He's in a movie with Stacy Keach from 1977 called The Squeeze.
But Deadwood is a tour de force...
One of the best performances by an actor in a tv show ever...I'd say it even beats bryan cranston from breaking bad
My daughter and I pay homage to David Milch's Deadwood: czcams.com/video/1HXC9azwn2U/video.html
Far better
Not even close buddy lost me in translation buddy
Tony Soprano beats Cranston too
@@GrimReader😂😂 bullshit
Best show ever!
When he ain't lyin, Al is the most honorable man you'll ever meet
"Tell your god to ready for blood" - love that line
Everyone in this show was fantastic in their roles, but lan McShane was genius level- best monologues this side of Shakespeare.
The way he says "on the one hand and on the other hand" makes me laugh😂
als kidney stone was one of the most beautiful, fucked up moments in television i can recall...
Swearengen is god. Best character ever on TV for my money.
Everyone always hyping up "The Sopranos" when both "Deadwood" and "The Wire" are superior in pretty much every way.
sopranos and wire are about equal. deadwood is above everything. David Milch is a genius wordsmith. Combining the poetic/theatrical "elevated" language with the vulgarity was the perfect combination. Some people criticize deadwood for the rampant swearing, but are they listening to the words in between?
Im Italian and say the sopranos was over hyped and ntm stereotypical af ... like we all sit around in track suits and eat cold cuts
I heard this is coming back in 2018!!! Please!!! I need more Deadwood!!!
Status??
Jacqui Harper 2019 spring break 3 hour HBO movie with all actors coming back , already filmed
Best character ever.
Okay. So I couldn't sleep the other night. Went to my Ultimate History Channel quiz app. One of the questions was who was killed by Ford in the late 1880s. The choices were Jesse James, Wild Bill Hickok, Billy the Kid, and Ian McShane. NOT kidding!!
Well, it was obviously Ian McShane.
Nikki Moth Gotta be. Huzzah!
Many times, that's what life is--one vile fuckin' task after another.
One of my most favorite characters of all time!
Something I just noticed - although I have seen the series countless times - is when Swearengen says someone is "alright," they actually are. He is a good judge of personal integrity. He used "alright" to describe Merrick, Langrish, and Joanie Stubbs - and probably others.
Justified..my new favorite
Ian McShane, absolute legend that even Titus Welliver had to watch and learn from.
best fucking character on any show ever
Damn fn right man.
Richard Harrow is cooler
BEST SHOW!!!! & Alotta The Actors/Actresses From This Show Are Now In "SOA!" Another FABULOUS SHOW!!! BRING DEADWOOD BACK!!!
“Tell your god to ready for blood” Damn that was badass.
If you haven't seen this show you don't know what your missing
"why if im moving away from you do you fucking pursue me" "close the assflap"
McShane steals every scene he is in. Compare this to my other favourite Lovejoy just shows you the depth of range he can play.
Al's conversations with Wo were fantastic.
God loves us: “Deadwood: The Movie” comes to is all May 31st 2019 on HBO.
My favourite character by far in Deadwood. Very sad they never made the final season.
Y'all please keep the DEADWOOD comin'!
Andrew Fury
"Welcome to fuckin' Deadwood!.....Can be combative!!!!....Ouch!!!
Fuckin' love it!
If only I had a way to post the Holiday Season DEADWOOD pics I contrived . . .
"Tonight, I plan on drinkin' IN!"
Andrew Fury
That's alright Jane...I know your canvassing techniques.
I don't need any casualties on my conscience.
At least he's honest -- in his way.
I haven't watched this show before. I just watched the movie Hot Rod with Ian McShane and Andy Samberg; I liked Ian's character so much that I just started looking up other things he's been in. He is now one of my favorite actors. He is an extremely versatile actor.
He made me laugh so much during the second season during all that agonny he endured XD
4:44 Whenever I now hear anyone say "On the one hand", I remember this scene lol.
Apart from the John wick franchise he is a great actor he's the king of insults and the king of mischief and schemes funny as hell
1:35 Imagine if he said this to Dutch van der Linde.
"A human being in his last extremity is a bag of shit." Haha, awesome.
Classic pure classic
"Huzzah."
"I speak French!" ;-p
"announcin your plans, is a good way to hear God laugh"

That's a great way of putting things into perspective 👌
He's a hell of a good actor...
Lmao damn this character is fucking wild 😂
So at this point, all constructive work has ceased on said computer and I'm just perusing bollocks on youtube, though quality bollocks it is.
Loved that show

Well nothing has been written in stone yet, But yea David Milch has started writing a script.
It's called "drama".
AL best charter ever!
Best show ever

Up there with the sopranos, six feet under, and the wire as the greatest hbo shows ever
I really gotta learn that special sweeping technique
agreed, not to mention milch is amazing director/screenwriter
