Hi Kevin. Couple of points: Do not pet Russell when he doesn't listen, you are rewarding bad behavior. And when he doesn't want to walk, stick a treat under his nose and keep feeding him treats as he walks.

I was going to say the same thing. You don’t want to confuse him. Also, I think he’ll learn a lot quicker than you think. The younger they are, the quicker they learn. However, even old dogs can learn new tricks. Granted, Leeski and Kora are not old dogs, but not puppies either. I have trained my older dog to sit, shake, beg and come and he was 7 at the time. I did the same with my other dog when he was 2. Treats are great motivators. Just stay consistent with them and you’ll be surprised how quickly they learn.

Ps I agree with that guy. That said, you shouldn't pet the dog when it doesn't do what you want it to do. Only petted and give it a treat when it does what you say

Bantam hens are always broody! I use them to hatch out full size chicken eggs instead of an incubator. I once found our female bantam was disappearing and the male would roost alone with the regular chickens at night. Then one morning I followed Jack when he left the coop. He gave Dianne away, she was under our shed two fences away…..sitting on 17 bantam eggs! She had to spread her wings completely out to cover them all! 😂😂 And YES, they hatched! He began staying with her b/c we have cats who had access to the shed area. He stayed on the nest when she went to eat and find water. And YES, you just read a little ditty ‘bout Jack and Dianne. 😂😂

Also Kevin, since you and Rachel are both training Russell, you need to remind yourself that there MUST be consistency. The same commands from the both of you that way Russell wont have confusion to deal with along with distractions from the other animals. Puppies are like toddlers with ADHD. Russell is looking so handsome each and everyday

Russels paws are huge ! He's going to be a BIG boy. He's also stubborn. I've been watching the training, one thing I did notice, you might want to stop the treats every time he takes a few steps. Keep the commands short, one or to words. They are smart but they need to learn simple commands. To many words confuses them. Name, simple command then if completed, treat. IF THEY DON'T COMPLETE, no TREAT. It's hard for us humans to stop talking while giving commands but you have to keep it very simple. Always use their name while giving the command as well as at reward time. Just remember, no compliance, no treat !

If you keep a slight tension on the leash and let him move for slack then reward him he will learn what you're asking of him. If the tension is tight and you pull on it he may think it's a negative thing and fight you more. It will build his confidence if he does it on his own 😊
You can use the leash as a recall tool also. Reward him when he comes to you after you call him. It's a lot simpler when they aren't running around and distracted.

I was in dog obedience fo r 45+ years. I followed the TCP method. Tell them, Compel them, Praise them. Never train when you can’t 100% concentrate on the job in hand. Always follow thro with a command. Always physically SHOWthe pup what you actually want from them.. I personally don’t like treat training, I always used a toy, mainly a ball on a rope. Above all and most importantly make training fun 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗🤗❤❤❤❤❤

    Dog treats
    -------
1 can of pumpkin puree(for making pies)
4 cups of flour (white or whole wheat)
    2 eggs
    1-2 cups of oats
    3/4 cup of peanut butter
    Tablespoon of rosemary
    Tablespoon of cinnamon
    Tablespoon of ginger
    Tablespoon of parsley
    Table spoon of tumeric
    Tablespoon of basil
    Tablespoon of oregano
1/4 cup of oil(vegetable or canola)
    Tablespoon of baking powder
    Tablespoon of baking soda
    1/4 cup of brown sugar
    Dried fruit Mangos,pineapple.papaya (NO RAISINS)
Unsalted sunflower seeds or green pumpkin seeds if you wish
You can also add corn meal, rye flour etc.
Add enough water to make it doughy(or Beef, chicken broth)
Mix well and take out a bit at a time on to a floured cutting board.
Roll out to about a 1/4” thick.
Cut out small treat size pieces with a cookie cutter or similar.
You can also spray the pan with PAM and roll the dough out on the cookie sheet about 1/4” thick .Then cut into small squares and cook.
Place on cookie sheet sprayed with Pam.
I use a fork to press the tunes in each treat to help centre cook.
Place in oven at 350 for 30 minutes or until centre cannot be pressed in.
    Let cool and start treating!
I have been making these for years and all the ingredients are good for dogs. This way you know exactly what you are feeding your dogs.

Good for Ms. Betty and her babies! Glad you got them put in a safe place! When I was a little girl back in the 50s, my Mamaw always called her baby chicks "diddles"! So to this day, I call baby chicks "diddles" in memory of my Mamaw!!!🐥🐣 Russell sure is beautiful! It always takes time and consistency when training pups. A few minutes a day is about all their little attention span lasts. He sure likes his food!🤗

She deserves that honor. Glad you caught them all so they can grow strong and thrive to carry on their lineage line of beautiful Miss Black Betty. I don't know if this has been suggested but he's not too young to learn 'Wait' Make him sit & wait until you've put all his food in his bowl. Then tell him OK. I've taught All my puppies this & it makes feeding much more enjoyable. Also it's much easier if you make him Sit first & then put his lead on. When he balks at walking, entice him with a treat but he shouldn't get it until he's come up to you rather than you going to him. I hope you don't mind me giving these tips! He's so sweet & doing well. Good luck with it all. Love the new Chick's 😁

Russell’s doing good on his training. He sits for his food. He should stay sitting until you release him to go eat. Then, praise him. Don’t give rewards to the dogs unless they obey your commands. Otherwise they’re getting the treat without doing what you want them to do.

Hi guys! I left a fairly lengthy message on the last video about training tips. Doesn't look like anyone read it, haha. Oh well. If you want to go back and look at it, the only tweak I would make after seeing today's leash training is to show him the treat and make him walk to you to get it... walking backwards and making a fun sounding "baby talk" voice will encourage him.
The bantam hens are such good momma's it seems! Have you seen any of Cog Hill Farm videos lately? Their female laid a clutch of I think 17 eggs! Now their male, Nugget, is sitting on them. It's amazing animal instinct. Jason was sure that Nugget would never sit, or stay on the nest, but he's doing it! It'll be fun to see how many hatch!
    Take care,
    Heather

Have you heard of "ponying"? It's when you walk a young horse on trail with a seasoned horse. This breed of dog, as you know, is very independent and smart.
    1. Teach recall: he needs to come to you. Start with short distances, expanding distance every few days.
    2. Leash training: If one of your dogs does well on leash, walk Russell on leash with that dog, and he will learn very fast...
    3. As he does better, reward more with affection than treats. 😊

I have rottweilers. The best way to train them a leash training is to first train them to come to you when call their name. Also must sit next to you. None of your dogs do that. They will come if there is a treat or so. Once the dog comes to you when called (without a treat) then start the leash training. You will see 1-3 days they will be trained. It is very important to have your puppy away from any other dogs. Try it and you will be amazed

The way I trained Bloodhounds to a a leash was to get an old leash and cut it to where the leash touches the ground and leave it on for the puppy to get use to something hanging onto his/her collar and after a week of the puppy wearing the short leash try controlling the puppy with a puppy leash not a grown dog leash. You will find it easier to control the puppy when it is older. Treats are good for show dogs, not working dogs. Let them know that they are appreciated by giving them a good Pat and rub on the back. If you must treat put treats in their food and then you won’t have to worry about your working dog eating at the designated time they eat only one time a day. If you want a pet instead of a working dog keep giving the dog treats.

I do agree with the one person who said switch to a harness though, because it could hurt him resisting so hard against the leash! I support y’all and I think y’all are doing great! Lots of prayers for everyone! Love and blessings from this old Bama girl!❤❤❤

Hey Kevin! Remember to put a string on Betty’s chicken coop! You wouldn’t want your daughter to get trapped in there without a way out!! Put another string on the latch!! Consider yourself reminded! 🥰❤️🙏🏻❤️🇨🇦🍁

Of all of the commands you will ever teach your dog, come is the absolute most important. He needs to come to you. Not to come and sit 2 feet from you. They should come to your shins, touching you. Reward massively with “good come, good boy/girl” while vigorously rubbing them. Sides, back, under the chin and ears. While they may be/are food oriented. But much more than that they respond to affection faster. For me I would be across the yard and bend over and pat my shins while saying “come”. I have used this on nine of my dogs. It has never failed to get a sight/voice recall command. Even at 8 weeks for our Frenchie. Bulldogs are notoriously stubborn but at 8 weeks she would run to me and sit with just a couple of pats on my shins. She knew the affection that was coming her was.

Usa a halter/harness instead of a collar on Mr. Russell -- much better than possibly breaking his hyoid throat bone with a collar. And BTW, where are the pool noodles on the emu feeder, so that poor Yoshi and Yoneg don't rub off their neck feathers????

Extra chickens? Our local Tractor Supply has an animal swap on the first and third Saturdays of the month. Also, on Facebook I’m in a swap club that is open every other Saturday. If you take layers or young chicks you will sell out in 5 minutes! Our swap has goats and rabbits, as well as hand raised quail pairs. I can sell or swap what I take and leave within 30 minutes tops. It’s a good way to turn over older hens also. As long as they still lay. ❤ I would let Betty to continue to lay and hatch, chicks are going for $5+ at the swaps. It will pay for your chicken feed..

Have you thought about feeding the dogs only once a day? I would assume in the morning since they’re probably not as active in the day compared to at night. Might be why they’re not always excited to eat in the evening. During pheasant/grouse season we only feed our dog once a day, and at night, so she’s not running on a full stomach during the day. Something to consider.

From my experience with dogs is a body harness with a leash is much better than a collar with a leash. Dogs generally don't like being pulled by their neck which is why they don't react on command to come a lot of times. Russell is going to be a great LGD. What if you were to cut a couple of the wires on the chicken coop door next to the latch. If you get locked in, just reach through with a couple fingers and unlock the latch. I can't wait to see Mojo meet up with Russell! ❤🧓

Try keeping a treat in front of his nose and next to your leg without actualy giving it to hum while walking. I used small pieces of cheese or hot dogs and let my dogs nibble on it while walking them next to me. Works like a charm. I did had to resort to wearing gloves at a certain point cuz they tended to nip my fingers as well sometimes 😅 He's doing great though, seems like a smart man. And only say the command 1time. Give him a chance to think and act before repeating the command. Start with his name and notice if he pays attention, then the command. Good luck ❤
