I would advise you to ask your vet about neutering Russell. I know most of the chat are advising about waiting because of his growth plates. YOU'RE VET can help you make the right decision about the matter. I think you're right about his feet. He might be bigger than his dad. Time will tell.

Kevin and Rachel, I completely understand how you both must be feeling. Back in the 70’s a tornado hit Batesville, Indiana and my uncle was killed in it and my two aunts were wrapped in barb wire. One aunt had to be air lifted to a Cincinnati hospital because it was to the bone. When they had the funeral, we went to their homestead. The old barn was lying in splinters. The amazing thing was if they had made it to their cellar, they would have been okay. Everything that they had canned was lined up straight on the shelves and not a thing was broken. The house was swept completely off the foundation. It was devastating but we are thankful they were still with us and my uncle was up in heaven where he was safe. Praying for your community, its leaders and the people of Oklahoma.

I SERIOUSLY believe that if you're going to neuter Russell you should wait until he is full grown, attains his full muscle mass that he is intended to have and that way you will avoid many health problems for him in his future!! If you're worried about him & Kora, separate Kora or put Russell up front with Mojo where he can begin learning from Mojo what he's supposed to do & his boundaries!!!

Makes good sense to neuter Russell if your only concern is his breeding Kora. You might want to research neutering big breeds, though. I know of a few cancer issues with early breeding. I'm no expert, though, but I see your logic here. Glad you're keeping him -- it will be fun to continue to watch him grow and develop into a great AGD.

I would get Russell neutered and Kora spayed. Kora doesn't need to be used as a money machine.

It would be better growth wise to fix 18-24 months. If your worried about the male dogs getting to mora and that at an excuse. Perhaps you should fixed kora too. It would mean coyotes or stray dogs wouldn't be drawn to the farm.

About the netering if you want have the option when Leaskie and cora are old and not for Breeding etc there is something like hormonal Netering i dont know if this exists in the Us but in Germany and Austria it is also a form of neutering without Operation

To let you know dogs do communicate with each Otho wac my two do this all the time they also can communicate with you if you pay attention. The let you know things they want. Mine wanted fresh water so she came to me and showed me the kitchen faucet. She was happy when I gave her the water. She will set in front of me and make sounds like she is talking to me. Maybe you don’t have a dog or you don’t spend time with your dog.

Russel is way too young to be neutered! His growth depends on his hormones, and that includes his brain! Consider spaying Kora instead, please!

That's unreal...those goats are standing in a lush field of clover which is like steak to them....and they want the dog food. Doesn't make sense I know. It is almost imperative that you get Russell fixed for the reason you stated because they don't know any better than to try to bread their family member. I hate it because Russell would make some beautiful pups but it is what it is. I love Mojo and I know he would have made gorgeous pups. I live in WV and it's unheard of to have tornadoes here and we have already had 2 this year causing lots of damage as well. This past Sunday a severe storm went through my town with winds of 122mph and knocked out everyone's power and internet for 3 days. I guess we can blame it on climate change. While it’s ideal to wait until 2 yrs old to neuter a large breed dog like Russel your circumstances there dictate that you have to do it at 6 months especially if you are not going to spay Cora. Not only is it possible he could breed his mother but there will certainly be fighting with Leesky and there will be serious injuries incurred. As it is even neutered Leesky isn’t going to want Russel around when Cora comes into heat again which she should anytime now. It’s not a good idea to let her get pregnant again this soon after her last litter. Most dog breeders only allow one litter a year.
