Your videos are getting better and better in many ways. Looking forward to the next one. Greetings from Germany
I think Russell is 4 months, not 5. You said Jan 20th is his birthday. Right?😊
From my 25+ years of owning, breeding and showing large breed dogs I think your choice to neuter Russell at 6 months is a bad call. His growth plates are still open and not fused at the joints, sometimes closing as late as 18 months in giant breeds. They need those hormones for growth and health and well being. A good veterinarian would agree not to neuter until maturity. Cancers are also more common in dogs fixed too young, please look into it before making a decision.
To me it makes more sense to spay Kora, as it limits the problem, you have her bloodlines and leeskes in Russell. If she comes into season every 6 months, you’ll be faced with the possibility of her breeding with Leeske and back to back litters and that’s really bad for Kora. Plus her scent on the farm when in season can cause unwanted interactions between all the dogs, neutered or not. So if you want Russell to be able to go wherever needed on the farm spaying her would be most ideal, neutered males will still mate with females in heat, and all the male interactions and behaviours that goes with it.
Just passing on advice from personal experience.
I agree with you 100%.
I totally agree with you.. Russell could always be used as a stud and get one of the puppies as a stud fee..
completely agree, although whilst 18-24months is best id be doing him by 12m to minimise the risk of problems with mum and dad
Wow, I didn’t know about problems with neutering and spaying before maturity. So it is recommended that they be full grown for all breeds to prevent cancer and hip desplacia?
@@lynnd7018 all dogs and bitches should ideally wait till maturity before getting fixed. There are exceptions, smaller breeds reach physical and mental maturity faster than large or giant breeds. If a testicle remains up inside the body and doesn't drop down properly. Any numbers of other reasons to fix early. Fixing early can also cause behaviour issues and put them as an eternal naughty puppy. Hormones are needed to mature mentally as well as physically. Those that neuter on the beliefs that it will stop bad behaviours are not putting in the training to raise a healthy and respectful dog. I'd advise anyone who's in this situation to research as much as possible, speaking to professionals such as vets and behaviourists. The evidence is out there. 👍🏻
Miss kora looks so healthy since having the puppy's she's filled out more looks beautiful ❤
My heart dropped I thought you were getting rid of adorable, sweet Russel. Fixing him is the best decision for you all. Love to you all and those sweet lovable dogs.
You have a beautiful farm and family plus great with all the critters too
Hang in their...I truly feel His Children those who believe are being greatly tested
Each so unique each trial, stresses, constantly in pain or insane weather, our country our world is upside down....yup tested evil wants us we are a bulls eye targeting us
All of are weary hang on keep praying HE is coming soon to take US
God bless you and yours and your CZcams family with peace
Amen ❤
if he gets neutered, he will not be Russel anymore Kevin you are making a huge mistake if you do this just think of all the bad luck people like myself will be wishing upon your farm God might think it Kevin's
turn to have his farm totally swept away by a tornado
@@tomduane1960 that's just messed up. Y on earth would anyone wish harm to another is beyond me. It's his dog. He's doing what he sees fit. If u feel bad go to the animal shelter and adopt a dog there because they didn't want to fix there dog. Now there's some logic for u. God bless.
@tomduane1960
I like the first 17 words of your comment - but after that it gets a bit weird.
But I would like to think that your sentiments for Russell were spot on - and that you just "stumbled" over your choice of expression for the last part.
I'm sure you meant well, GOD BLESS.
Your horrible. Kevin needs to delete and block you. That's terrible to wish that on someone and their family. Creep. Weirdo. 😢 5:38
You have Coras genes in Russel...you could spay her..let Russel reach his full potential. Just a thought...ask your vet and other large dog breeders.
Because large breed dogs are prone to orthopedic issues, it is recommended to wait until 9-18 months of age to be neutered or spayed. Small dogs don’t have the same issues so 6-12 months is fine. Your farm always looks so good and now with all of the rain it is especially beautiful!
Males are fertile between 5 and 6 months old. The best thing u can do for dogs is good breeding stock without a history of it as the dogs get older and good diet from day one of the bitch getting pregnant to 2 years old. A reputable breeder will discuss it with you.
I dont have a LGD but i do have a German shepherd. I didnt get her spayed until after her 2nd birthday because of the hormones that is needed for development of joints. She's only 4 now but so far she's happy and healthy! I can't say one way or another when it is a good idea to spay/neuter. In my case, my dog was healthy so i was able to wait that long. Other people have other opinions and sometimes there's emergencies on when it needs to happen. I don't judge either way 😊
@chickadee1899 sorry hun but as a breeder and learning everything to make sure I had the best stock to go to the rings, I have to tell u, sometimes hormones will make bad traits in a dog worse quicker. The sooner you can fix them, if not going to used for breeding the better for your animals health. Hormones easerbate bad traits in dogs not help them. And you usually won't see these effects till late in life.
All my vets have said it is best at 3-4 months for spay/neuter from my 150 lb Rotties to small Dachshund & many dogs in between.
When my minivan got to where it could have been totaled instead of repaired by the insurance company, I dropped collision coverage, because it was irreplaceable. A few years later it cost me 2K to replace a door I damaged, but it was worth it. Bought it new and drove it for 18 years.
Having multiple breeding age dogs is a difficult thing...a real responsibility...my only concern is neutering a large breed dog before their growth plates are grown...vets I know don't recommend but trust your vet and your future plans...HUGS❤
I find it interesting that alot of vets don’t actually explain the difference in neutering/spraying a small dog vs a large dog. My vet was upset that my dog (staffordshire bull terrier) was a year old and not neutered. I told him I was waiting until he was a year and a half and why. He said I was being irresponsible. I’ve always had large dogs and I understand my responsibilities. I got my dogs records when I left and found a new vet.
how often are you going to have puppies being born? I would talk to the vet and get medication for Cora and let her have a few years off, before having more. Having puppies every time Cora come in heat is not good for her health.
its better for them to be bred every time they come into heat than it is not the uterus still goes through all the changes that it would if she had puppies it can lead to alot of problems like cancer and pyometria
Totally separate Russell from his parents when Cora comes on heat we have to with our huskies so we don't get more pups, the longer you hold off getting neutered helps with growth and avoids problems. Our girls were over a year old before they was 'done' .
Russell loves you as much as Liske love you. They make me smile.
I understand your future problem, but as a retired Saint Bernard breeder I have to give you something to think about; nr.1 Russell is by far to young to be neutered, he needs his complete body/ hormones to grow to become a healthy dog. The big breeds need time to develop there total healthy adult size, that means at least 18 months old. nr.2 Russell is by far better in quality then his dad. nr.3 Cora's body needs a brake from breeding, it is much easier and better to take her to the vet and let him give her something that makes her body too skip the next heatperiod. AND you keep the peace and give Russell the time to grow up healthy. Getting him neutered way too young will get him many very serious joint problems and arthritis plus very bad bone quality. Plus having mr. Leeske breeding ms. Cora multiple times will give you puppies of a poor and weak health. A good talk with youre vet is the best advice in this kind of situations, i wish you wisdom and luck.
@piavanbuijtenehazenbroek1162
Cor blimey, such incredibly clear words of wisdom.
When I grow up, I want to be just like you.
So, head back in the books for a few years for me.
I totally agréé with your words of wisdom. In fact, there is no chance that i would ever neuter Russell. He'd make an excellent dad himself in a couple of years - just not with his mother. I'm very opposed to interbreeding.
Also, beautiful MoJo will slow down in a couple of years and Russell might need some extra help. OMG, i'd give anything to have a dog like Russell.

Talk to your vet. With larger dogs, you want to hold off on neutering until they're about a year old. Has to do with growth patterns and maturity. Just a thought for what it's worth. I do understand about the possibility of him breeding Kora. Serious concern.
If you dont plan to breed. Fix Cora & Leeske. Less chance of cancer for both.
Than let Russell get older and get thru his growth spurts.😊
If he got Kora fixed he wouldn’t need to fix Leeske (or Russell)
There is no guarantee that Cora won't get cancer. My baby girl was fixed and she died of cancer last December. 😢😢😢😢
@@sanjuanamorales8610 It doesn't guarantee no cancer, unfortunately that's just not possible no matter what you do, but it does completely eliminate the chance of uterine cancer as well as pyometra (not cancer but extremely serious and life-threatening).
My thought is as far as Russell being around Mojo, Russell should be in the pasture for like half a day with Mo. The two of them should spend a good part of the day together.
I think getting Russell fixed is a good idea, but like so many others commented, perhaps check with the vet when the best age is to have it done for Russell. I love seeing all your wonderful animals so I thank you for sharing your beautiful animals and farm with us! God bless you all and God keep you all safe! 🥰🥰💜💜🙏🙏
To get Russell fix i would wait until he about least 18 to 24 month. He is a beautiful dog he looks like Kora his mother.May God bless you all.
mojo being a senior dog just doesn't have the patience for puppy shenanigans, it's normal.
Happy mr. smeegs' is doing much better after the snake bite!
As a large dog owner, an older vet told me that you want to wait until Russell is about a year old to make sure his urethra is fully developed before you get him neutered.
Why dont you drill some holes in those feed troughs ,so the water drains out
In the middle of the day yesterday, the sky went pure black with huge clouds here in east Texas. We got another wicked storm - at least the electricity stayed on this time. Even with our pure sand, I think some folks are thinking we might need a very large boat! Roads are washed out and trees are down everywhere. Take care of yourselves, the anima ls and the neighbors.
Prayers for you all.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
😅
Russell is a beautiful dog. He reminds me a lot of Daisy. I still miss her.
Daisy is watching over her HHF family from Heaven, like a good guardian.
I think your barn and goat feeding set up is the best I have seen on utube ❤
Hi please don't think I'm lecturing you on this... but giant breed dogs shouldn't be neutered or spayed till 2 yrs old... that's when their joints are formed fully so reduces the chance of joint dysplasia... I totally get why you want it done but maybe consider the implant for Russell till then... 😊
True! He will not have the maturity you desire and he will have have the decision making perfection you want. You have to want the best for your guardians and Kora being on the pill might be the best thing, for now.
Unfortunately here in the UK vets advise neutering a male after 6 months old... they only think of the money they'll get for the operation... not the serious health issues that'll probably affect a dog later on in life especially after 7 when they're classed as past mature... x
@debbiegoodyear5963
It's true.
Many new dog owners, the first thing they think of is getting their pet neutered - they think it will make them calmer house pets and better behaved.
Bread and butter for the vets.
It's terrible the way vets are now... it's not about the pets now... very sad...
January to May, he's 4 months old. So, time to wait.
Wise choice to fix Russell. Because he’s related you don’t want him to breed there. I’m glad you kept him. He’s beautiful and smart!
@alicemattsen2208
"Beautiful and Smart"
All the more reason not to neuter him - but to breed from him.
The separation of the mother and father vs son can be managed going forward.
But after the SNIP there's no going backward in time for poor young boy who has never been given a chance to shine his light.
I love all your videos. I've watched you guys for a long time. My vet told me with my Pyrenees that we should wait till 18 months to 2 years because they're still growing. Need ring them slows down their growing and they're more prone to cancer and other diseases if they're neutered too early. They're not the same as small dogs.
We're here in NW Louisiana in the country and last night we had to load up our 3 dogs in both of our trucks and take off for coverage from tornadoes in our area. Everybody takes off to the hospital parking garage in town. This weather is crazy this year. I'll be glad to get back to normal weather. Prayers for all of y'all in Oklahoma.
Smeagol looks back to normal, so that's awesome
Aw Leasky is such a kind hearted bb but he misses out all the time and didn’t get his egg Dad! 🤭
I would check into the neuter, Russel is a big dog if you neuter him this early the growth plates in his legs will not stop growing because the hormones are not there. Look it up and you will see.
Jan 20th to end of May is just over 4 months. That makes his size even more amazing! ❤
Sounds like you might have a real potential valuable stud in Russell.
Look how well received and the strong demand for every one of the whole of that last litter.
With your land and facilities, I would seriously be looking at getting another female and developing your own registered bloodline.
Makes good business sense to me.
Hormones are important for bone and joint growth up to 18 months. I always encourage my families that purchase pup from me to please wait until at least 12 months to help with strong bones and joints.
Wow, I knew Russel was becoming a big boy, but next to Cora and Leske, his is huge already. He is going to be big. I can not wait to see him when he's full grown. He is so beautiful. I am so happy you kept him.
@mommabearmaryann8106
He's a WONDERDOG.
He's worth his weight in GOLD.
With another quality dam, his offspring would be in demand worldwide.
He's a great export opportunity for the USA.
Except to China - they put them on the dinner plate there !!!??
I can't believe Russell is 4 months old already. Time flies. He is such a sweet dog.
Please don't neuter your large breed pup before 18 months of age, he needs his hormones, and his joints to close before neutering. While Mom is in heat she should be separated in her own SAFE run in the barn or kept up in your home in her own space. My Dad was a Veterinarian and never approved of early neutering or spaying. We were preservation breeders for over 40 years of Airedale Terriers with over 50 champions. Love your homestead and your wonderful guardian dogs! That pup is beautiful, the best of both his parents! Keep up the good work!!
Great video. Russell will be a good yard protector. Smeegle already accepted him and he leaves the free-range chickens alone. Blessings 🙏🫶🙏🫶
My dad was a claims adjuster. He would leave the vehicle sitting in the hot Sun and then throw some cold water on the hood, avoid the glass, and a lot of the dents will pop out.
Our weather is so crazy lately. One minute we have sun and the next bad storms then we do it over again. That happened 9 times the other night. Stay safe everyone!
Doesn't your vet feel Russel is too young at six months to neuter? Growth plates need the sex hormones to properly grow and form. And this is typical of large breed dogs. 🐾🇺🇸🐕🦺🦮
Love how great you are with your dogs. They are happy and loved. God bless ya'll ❤❤❤❤
Praying you and your family are well! Praying for the weather to dissipate quickly!! Love your videos!!❤️😘🙏🇮🇱
Kevin you can take those hail dents out pretty easy . With dry ice and a roll of tape .Here is how to do it put the roll of tape over the dent and and put the dry ice on the dent in the middle of the tape roll the ice will pull the dent out .
How come you never show the 🫏 donkeys anymore? I used to enjoy seeing them. 💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏💜💜💜
We got hit last night here in Louisiana just got electricity back on thank the Lord no one was hurt
Hey y'all how is the Rock Cabin by the lake doing with all the storms ? I can't wait to see more fishing and catfish videos with Rachel an the kiddos .
God Bless y'all 💯 ❤ 🙏 🇺🇲
I love your dogs and cats so much. All of them. I’m sure you’ll make the right decision with Cora and Russell. I think there is a pill that you can give Cora to skip a heat. Not sure anymore but there has to be other choices for you. I’m going to be covering you guys with prayers of safety and good health. Love your farm. 🤗🤗🤗~Becka
The weather has been crazy. Should you not like the weather, wait a minute and it will change. Russell is going to be a big boy. I am glad that Smeegle seems to be doing well. The colors of the eggs are amazing. I just love all your dogs. Blessings to you all. ❤🐕
I hate poisonous
snakes 🐍. Kimberly Russel is growing up so fast. He’s adorable.❤ sorry for all the rain and stuff.
Kevin.. love the commentary.. hilarious.. love your family..and animals.. wasn’t by chance I found this channel! God’s using !!
Our dogs never got ill with anything until after we had them fixed. They died from tumors and/or colon cancer. My vet told us not to neuter our new one. This weather reminds me of 2011 when a new record was made for the longest lasting tornado. Stay safe ❤.
Betty's babies are a nice variety of colors. 🐔🐥🐥🐥🐥
When you were talking Russell and Smegel booped noses it was cute❤
Liski says where's my egg?
Getting Russell fixed is a great idea to do with Russell being close to kora for when kora comes into heat
January 20th… I was so thrilled to share my birthday with the puppies !!!
Can you put Russell in the other pasture so you can wait a bit before neutering! It would benefit him a lot to be able to wait till he is 1 year at the least! My girls come back in season 6 months from the day the pups were born. So get him out and away from Cora the month she will come in.
Is many viewers have stated fixing him too young would be detrimental to his growth. It would be better if you could isolate Kora next time she comes into heat. You won't want to breed her during her next cycle anyway. Then Russel would have more time to develop.
WOW MR. RUSSELL IS ALMOST AS BIG AS CORA. I PRAY GOD KEEP HIS HANDS ON YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ❤❤❤
Seeing the three lined up like that, Russell is almost as big as Cora. I would bet he is going to be bigger than Leeske.
YAY ❤️ MOJO
There are implants now for male dogs that are very good at keep them technically neutered without actually loosing there testicles
They can also do a minimally invasive laproscopic vasectomy. Dog keeps getting the hormones they need, but can't get a female pregnant. Though they still like them to be closer to 18 months old, with the large breeds.
@@annrn6148 exactly there are now alternative besides neutering males these days
Kevin, Russell is only 4 months and 11 days as of 5/31.
If Russell is eating out of mom and dad feeding bowl you need to place his feeder on the same level. Love mister personality Mr. Mojo.
My experience is older dogs don’t appreciate the exuberance of young puppies 😂😂
Wise choice for Russell. God how I love all your dogs and your cat and the goats, emus and chickens and donkeys!! I have had you all and Dutch and family down the road in my heart and prayers and thoughts!!! Am very relieved that Dutch and his family now have the storm shelter right beside their house!!! Watched his video of it being put in. I know you have one and have always worried that Dutch didn’t and I don’t ever remember in all the years of watching you both seeing so many tornadoes and so many towns and homes being destroyed 😭😭😭. I will continue every day lol pray and worry about your families and animals 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Love always. Grammie Suzie
❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are the best CZcamsr
Hello praying for you all 🙏🏽 ❤️
Russell is SO HANDSOME!
Can you just set the fence line in more away from the ditch where they can’t get underneath if it washes out again?
The trend for neutering is to do it when they are too young. Please wait until Russell is older and at least almost mature. Make sure he has both testicles down and developed. Nuetering too young and some dog breeds are prone to cancers and other health issues more so than when they are close to being mature.
Hello Kevin, Rachel & Fam!
Hey Kevin and Rachel, I worry ao much about ya'll 💗🙏.
Im glad Mr Smee is doing better. His foot looks normal again🎉.
I had to nuter my big dog at 6 months because his behavior changed!
He was such a beautiful dog afterwards and had no problems growing huge😳.
Yall run fast if you hear that the Tornado is on its way 🤗.
JO JO IN VT 💞
Lol😅😅😅I like the way mojo talks his so handsome makes me laugh when you talk for him.and I agree with you about Russell.
Your grass and fields are so green. Just remember that this august.
I'm glad you survived all the storms that have gone thru .Would love to see more of the donkeys and goats in that field. I also noticed as you were walking around your shop area, you have plenty of containers filled with water. Please take the time to empty them since they are breeding grounds for mosquitos and such.
Fixing him at a young age can be serious for big dogs, you want to wait until his growth plates are full if you want to avoid health risks, and if you really want to avoid him pairing with Kora you should separate her, especially when she should skip a heat anyways to avoid complications with the next litter. I truly think you should wait to fix Russel for the safety of him as a future guard dog, and him being fixed could dramatically change his temperament and how he acts. It could go the wrong way doing it before he matures. Please please listen to the comments and wait to fix him if you chose to. ❤
Yes definitely!
I'm sure they've talked to their vet and don't need your opinion. I think their vet knows best.
@@GothMaiden88 not all vets are fully knowledgeable when it comes to very large breeds. A good chunk are yes but not all, and all vets suggest spaying sooner rather than later doesn’t always mean it’s the best for the dog. Thats nothing we haven’t heard, I did that with my dog and it ruined her hips because we spayed her too soon she has joint issues now at 3 years old. But feel how you want my comment was to help them didn’t involve you.
@@GothMaiden88 on top of that it dramatically changes a dog, 90% of dogs neutered lose most of their muscle and start gaining fat, they lose motivation to do things they used to, they gain weight fast even though they eat the same amount, the personality goes from happy and energetic to lazy and not willing to do things, on top of that the sudden weight gain causes health issues in the long run, yes for some dogs it’s best, but if he wants the best results it is best to wait. Nothing wrong with others trying to help them.
Male dogs don’t fully mature until 3-5 years of age when it comes to big dogs. But at the end of the day it is up to Kevin and Rachel.
Russel is a beautiful boy.
Just look at what happened to Dubai when they started cloud seeding, they had the largest flooding and had to rescue people. In Australia they also cloud seed. Who knows about the weather but God hey 🤔💖
I am pleased with your decision about Russell, you always know what’s best for your farm and your animals..
Good choice I've wondered about that back after Kora had her puppies. I'm praying for y'all and the storms thunderstorms are okay just no more tornadoes or flooding is what I'm praying for for y'all. Be safe and blessed.
I love rain! But you guys have really gotten a lot of storms! I was born in Tennessee but I’ve been here in Los Angeles for several years. I’m enjoying watching your animals and I can’t wait till Russel is grown to his full size like his mom and dad. God bless always ❤️❤️🙏
With the way they are playing with the weather it's going to be bad. I love Russell ❤️
You have to do what is good for your farm. Russell is a great addition to take care of the goats. 😊😲❤❤❤👌
You guys are the best I enjoying watching a channel. I’m an old lady in Fresno, California with no life when I see you with your family and your doggies and your chickens, your goats thank you for giving me something to look forward to.😂
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏Please read all the comments befor you do anything with Russel. Yes he needs to be fixed. Just your time line is off!! 🤗🤗💞💞💙💙
Gentle suggestion for Russel.
Move his feed basket to outside of fence between Cora and Lynsey Will avoid stealing egg, keeps pac feeling, establishes yard as his
Love your show
I think he’s 4 months old. January to May is 4 months.
Russ has such a beautiful coat and it looks like he’s going to be really big….would’ve been cool to breed him before getting him neutered but I guess it would’ve been hard to keep him away from Cora
I asked my vet as to when to spay Athena. She said that the bone vets want giant dogs to be almost a year old so that their bones are developed. But my general vet said 1. The
other vets don't do the spaying and 2. At that large size, it's almost like spaying a human. So she said 4 - 6 months is the easiest and least dangerous time to do it. Guess I'll need to schedule her for that soon.
the old general rule of thumb was after their first heat cycle. but that's old school.
Kevin, why don't you put Russell in the front with mojo And that way you can keep him away from his mom and his dad. I think that would be better. And that true you dont want her son have baby with his mother that would be bad that is why Leeske is there there hubby and wife 😏 lol Anna from dallas tx
When I had my dog, when it got hot he wouldn't eat much either. Good idea on Russell. Praying for everyone that lost all in the bad weather.
I cant get over how fast Russell has grown my goodness in the thumbnail he looks almost as.big as kora.and leesky lol hes just gotten so big so fast i wonder what the other babies look like now i bet they are big and beautiful too i just hope they are being taken very good care of just like you guys are doing with russel and the other dogs ....
Such beautiful animals! All of them! Luved the family line up!
All the best in your decision of Russell. Yes, there have been so many storms this year already. Blessings to you all. 🙏🏻✝️🐾
We got a tornado close to where I live in Tamaqua, PA the other day.
Yes i thought you was going to get rid of Russel....Its understandable what youve got to do...Its your decision to what you think best....Theyre all wonderful dogs....all of them....All the farm animals etc are looking healthy....Hope youve got no more Tornados coming...Prayers to all around that was involved and hope there getting back to life again...Stay safe and see you on the next one
Russell is a good looking dog. I'm glad you're keeping him.
The snake must have moved on. Russell is almost as big as his Mom and Dad. I fully understand why you have to have Russell neutered. Glad y'all haven't had any major damage from the storms. Good seeing Mojo. Always enjoy your videos. GOD bless y'all.
You can buy one of those "dent remover" kits. It will take care of most of those dents on your truck
Are you ever going to put Russel with Mojo? I feel like we have been wairing forever!
