This video helped me.I have BMW e92, petrol with a manual, I started to leave my BMW in the garage with the doors open, and my front light in on possion.For the first week I had a warning light light for my battery and after that I had this yellow warning light with the car on lift.After some investigation I found is a battery problem.I was locking my car now and switching off my front light and now everything is ok.I am happy for this video and I want to help others BMW owners.

And Yes! when the temperature is around zero, the message appears more often with DVD in player.
This video is not accurate. The message does not come on each start. If you stop the car and start it again the error will go away. That does not mean that you've found the source of the problem.

yes it is true , if you leave it unlock the car thinks that you are gonna start it up and keeps all the parts on a standby like mode ... and that is drainning the bat also

Mine just did this today for the first time and it was only -2 degrees c. It's never done this before in the 5 years I've owned it and in colder temps. I gurss the battery might need replacing soon. The car was 3 years old when I bought it and I'm guessing the battery wasn't replaced in that time and I've never replaced it because I've had no issue. edit** I have LCD ambient lights plugged into the 12v socket so I'll unplug them if the car is going to sitting for a while in winter. It hasn't been driven much in the last month, just a quick 15 minute cruise last weekend to get it's fluids moving and the battery charged a bit.
Car sat for a month, charger and radar detector plugged in. Started right up, but got this message. Unplugged phone charger, and sure enough, systems ok! Might be time to replace this 6 year old battery soon however!
Thats why I had my dashcam set up hard wired and set in software NOT to work in park mode, i.,e not always on but I had this yesterday, so I'll try disconnecting it (at the camera) but a good tip though
If you own a BMW you have to do two things: (1) totally power down the car by locking it after you exit; (2) you need to drive the car at a decent speed about 30 minutes a day. The only time I have gotten this warning was after letting the car sit for more than 24 hours in below zero weather.
BMW...an expensive piece of shit. My new Chevy Equinox starts right away even after a week or two in the cold and freezing weather of Chicago. My BMW, needs a jump start.

Doesn’t it turn the cigarette lighters off with the car? If not in can be coded to do so very easily. I don’t think this is the cause of your problem though. Do you have comfort access? A lot of people say it’s a bad handle that causes it
Could be a glow plug down and its telling you there's a problem and you get service check come on when you open the doors of now td the G plugs come on automatically,,,,,,, !!!!

I have been getting this error too in my e90 320D M-Sport, you might be right but my manual say it means one of 3 things...1: control of brake lights failed 2: Fuel Supply faulty 3: Trailer Lights Malfunctioning I know in my case that it's not option 1 or 3, but I don't know if it's option 2 either, car runs fine. I thought it could have something to do with next service At 0:33 in the video I see a ! in a triangle and 183.....is this to do with a service? mine says 245 and is increasing.
The triangle shows that you have a fault and if you didn t have idrive it would be very handy and the numbers are your curent trip odometer .. when is reaching 2000 it will reset :) that s why it increases
Disconnect the IBS sensor it's the small blue connector on the battery negative terminal or near it...if its faulty it will displayed the high battery drain symbol.

Nu sunt mecanic sau ceva dar dupa ce am privit si acest clip , va spun ca avem nevoie doar de o baterie noua, neaparat codata cea noua. Pe mine, masina m-a avertizat de peste 5luni ca o sa am nevoie de o baterie noua . Primul simptom, masina are start/stop si nu mai astepta sa apas eu ambreiajul pt a o porni cand se facea verde semaforul. Pornea singura mai devreme. Apoi dupa cca 4 luni, start/stopul nu a mai functionat deloc. Apoi cand stateam cu motorul oprit si Aux pornit pt caldura, aparea mesajul ca nu mai are baterie sau ceva de genul. Ultima ,azi mi-a aparut eroarea din titlul acestui clip ,deoarece era noapte, farurile pe auto si masina mai intai aprinde farurile si apoi porneste motorul ceea ce consuma multa baterie. Deci masina n-are nici o vina. Are nevoie doar de o baterie noua ,neaparat codata dupa schimbare. 🙂👍 Merci de video brother.

@@amel3574 hi Actually however i have checked every thing with electric shop man and some enginieer man but unfortunatelly useless Finally i removed the mobile charger which i was plugged on even when i was not driving in cigarret light icon and i plugged it off and replugged the smok or cigarret light and the problem fixed I thing thee were some battery dscharge from it Hope it. These cars are not designed to run in colder climates like northern US and Canada. My X5 diesel will not for the past three days since temperatures dipped down below - 35
Yesterday morning I drove my car everything was fine, after I came out of work got in my car put the key fob into the ignition and all my dash the yellow service light came on with the car on the lift after I completely started the engine it then went off but then when I turned my car off completely and then turned it on again there was no service light everything was back to normal, when I looked in my service menu it readd "check ok" now this morning I had the same yellow service light again with the car on top of the lift and I did the same thing as yesterday and even when I went to the service menu when I saw the lift service light it just showed the emblem and didn't say anything else. Now I had my car service 2 weeks ago for an oil leak so I'm really really confused, I have a 2011 s drive 30i, I keep my car perfectly maintenanced I don't drive it that fast I revved the engine once or twice and everything is okay but I don't know why this symbol came on again, please help me?

After reading some below comments, I find that is a very common problem, I just replaced a new battery in 2017, but when winter comes, the message appeared again, I have no idea how to solve it, I just ignore it!
My car will do a 2 mile trip. No problem. Next I did a 30 mile round trip and starting up an hour later the clock reset! It's a 4yo Bosch battery! How?

Ja sam imao isti problem hteo i akumulator da menjam i video da nije akumulator , kada sam vratio sve i proslo jedno dva mes nije se javljao problem sto znaci da je gubio negde kontakt i reseta ti sat i datum koji me opasno nerviralo. I da auto pali normalno samo sat reseta i salje te na servis... 🙂
@@axam102 yes, but I'm saying that the power draw of those on startup are not enough to prevent a start... They're below 15 amps, while a starter uses 100+... They aren't draining the system because those outlets are off when ignition is off.... So something else could be draining the system and bmw did a shit implementation of their battery monitoring system. I've had a case where it bitched about a bad battery, even when the car started fine... And recently I couldn't start my car, yet no warning at all... It's seriously flawed
This is not the problem solution. The system checks the value of the cold crank A, and the different is to high between engine off and start then this mentioned message will be occured on the screen!!!
So you state the error message goes away but yet you fail to show it go away, hmmm calling BS on this I’m afraid, I get the same error code and even after a 40plus Mile run with minimum accessories on, I switch off car, do a restart and code is still there. I will do the right thing and get it checked over, 10 year old car now with being a 2010 model so guess it’s time for a new battery. Thumbs down for not actually showing you switch off and then restart with no error code.

Same here. Put in new battery, alternator and auxillary belt. Had it checked out and there was a drain from the fuse box which has been fixed but it's still happening
So many fallacies.... Weather, temperatures effects battery performance. Period. The error doesn't come back on after restart is because the alternator just charged the. Battery!
TO every standard, the idle is supposed to be between 500 and 800 rpm. Mine is at 600... Yours is 1000! that must be consuming unnecessary fuel at stops.
Do you take account that it was first start and cold outside ? I bet you don t know that when you first start your car in the morning the iddle will be higher , i will make a video on that explaining why that is ;)
Urbandriver Indeed Urb, mine sites the same in the AM at startup...a few seconds and it idles down to that beautiful purrrrr...I just sent my wife to the parking lot to take all FOUR chargers and usb out...let you know what occurs....it's 70° and I'm still getting that msg in the last week or so, so my issue isn't weather...also on the multimeter my bat is at 12.3 v (and it didn't start!) and with a jump on it, it's 13.8v and started...drive it for 40 minutes in sports mode and shifting myself, cruising at every chance and when we parked, STILL got the charge bat...idk but I WILL figure it out...thx for the advice!

Yes,to me IBS was problem..battery 90% full..
That is not the reason for the message. This happens for BMW's that dont have anything plugged into the vehicles accessory outlets.

To me problem was IBS sensor on bmw 1..Battery was on 90% full and start on cold weather with this...Just turn of ibs on battery.

The outlets don't stay on when the car is off... In some cases it goes off in a few minutes, others immediately. This is not a proper diagnosis.

So you state the error message goes away but yet you fail to show it go away, hmmm calling BS on this I’m afraid, I get the same error code and even after a 40plus Mile run with minimum accessories on, I switch off car, do a restart and code is still there. I will do the right thing and get it checked over, 10 year old car now with being a 2010 model so guess it’s time for a new battery.
Thumbs down for not actually showing you switch off and then restart with no error code.
If you still have the error then you have tot change the batt ... just think a little before you post ;)
I have 2011 e90 lci and I changed the battery but I still sometimes get the yellow lift symbol and yellow battery symbol. Also the alternator works fine. Any ideas on what is causing it? I dont have the I drive so there isn't much to drain the battery anyways.
Well in that case there is surelly smth that is draining the batt ... go check it out on a mecanic or electrician .. you have a sourge somewhere ...

Same here. Put in new battery, alternator and auxillary belt. Had it checked out and there was a drain from the fuse box which has been fixed but it's still happening

Weather, temperatures effects battery performance. Period. The error doesn't come back on after restart is because the alternator just charged the. Battery!
The alternator hardly charges the battery in 2 minutes you plank LOL

YOUR IDLE IS high
TO every standard, the idle is supposed to be between 500 and 800 rpm. Mine is at 600... Yours is 1000! that must be consuming unnecessary fuel at stops.
Do you take account that it was first start and cold outside ? I bet you don t know that when you first start your car in the morning the iddle will be higher , i will make a video on that explaining why that is ;)
Urbandriver Indeed Urb, mine sites the same in the AM at startup...a few seconds and it idles down to that beautiful purrrrr...I just sent my wife to the parking lot to take all FOUR chargers and usb out...let you know what occurs....it's 70° and I'm still getting that msg in the last week or so, so my issue isn't weather...also on the multimeter my bat is at 12.3 v (and it didn't start!) and with a jump on it, it's 13.8v and started...drive it for 40 minutes in sports mode and shifting myself, cruising at every chance and when we parked, STILL got the charge bat...idk but I WILL figure it out...thx for the advice!
I thought you were implying something else. In case anyone is wondering....increased idle speed in BMWs (with IBS) can happen if the battery voltage gets below a certain point.
@@DrMeize agreed cold start will always start with high rpm and as minutes go by the rpm should go down between 550 to 650
