  • If you have a BMW and someone has falsely or accidentally reset the brake service warning light but did not change the brake pads (and wear sensors), the red car on a hoist symbol will stay brightly lit up on your dash. No matter how much tape you stick over it, the whole dash lights up red.
    You may have a faulty brake wear sensor or you may need to buy a new sensor.
    You can temporarily reset this red car on a hoist warning light if you follow the directions in this video but make sure you fix the sensor properly and have your brake pads checked.

      Yes pretty scary if you think you’ve stuffed up something by resetting to many things on the car .

      Did you change the brake sensor ( or you can short out the brake sensor wires )?

      Litrally strip the sensor wires red and yellow twist together and electrical tape them reset lights all done

    Hi, I have had the same problem for a while now. After changing the brakes in the front it wouldn't let me reset the brake wear indication. I couldn't figure out why but after a while I tried to install completely new sensors, front and back (just a day ago) and it still won't let me reset it.
    When I check to see how many kilometers are left it says (minus!) -9000km for the fronts and (again minus) -12000km for the rears.
    It seems to count it correctly as the number increases accordingly to the km driven, but I just cannot reset it, no matter how often I try. Handbrake on, off, door open, closed, I've tried everything.
    The clock symbol turns as I press and hold, but it just doesn't do anything and still shows the same numbers...
    I'd really appreciate it if someone could possibly help me or knows what could be the underlying problem

      to sum up the lights showing:
      -The red car on the hoist (everytime I start the car)
      followed by
      -red service light
      and
      -constant red handbrake light

      If you get really stuck , get the old brake sensor and short the two wires with it installed in the car and reset the computer and then reinstall the new sensor.
      Shorting the wires will let you reset the bmw computer .
      Let me know how you go .

    Soooo if I reset these will they come back if there’s a legit problem? Or are they off until another problem subsides? Cause I don’t wanna damage my car by just turning off the lights you know

    • @Dentinvent
      @Dentinvent  Před 3 měsíci

      If you try and reset the light without changing things , the light comes on . If you reset without changing the brake wear sensor the fault comes on. You can reset it if you short the brake sensor wires to fool the computer.

    I know you said that tape over the service light won't help but i think tape will be more helpful then your video

      That’s an interesting comment . The video is to show how the light can come on and how you can fix it . Tape might help you and others who don’t want to try and solve the problem.

    • @Dentinvent
      @Dentinvent  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Did you reset the light and not have the brake sensor changed? If you did, then BMW has the red light to show you that the sensor is not a new one. You may test that your sensor is fine but the BMW knows it is an old one.
