CHOKE TUBE: goo.gl/yH5Qjb Join Southern Extreme T.V. team member Blake Myers as he breaks down the Carlson's Coyote Choke Tube and does a side by side comparison to another favored choke tube.
Everyone keeps talking about a full choke being too much for 00 buck. I don't think these people actually get out and shoot. It's just something that's popular to say on the Internet. I actually get out and pattern buckshot, with different chokes quite often. I can tell you that my best patterns come from a .680 choke tube, with anything from #4 buck-00 buck. A standard full choke is .700(from a standard bore shotgun .730). Don't take what people say on CZcams for the "gospel". Get out and pattern it yourself. Also, I measured my choke tubes with a digital caliber, and they are never exactly what it says on the package. If you really want tight patterns, buy some Federal Flight Control buckshot, and shoot it thru a cylinder bore. I've tried every other combo of chokes and buckshot, and NOTHING can beat that load for pattern density. Keep in mind that the flight control load is designed to shoot thru a cylinder bore. Any kind of choke restriction will strip the wad from the shot, and defeat the purpose and design of the load.
Thank you for taking the time to make this vidio. It helped me make deside to get the carlson coyote choke tube. I agree to do look like a young George W.
Great video. Did some testing of my own here in the Tennessee mountains. Here are the results using 10 inch plate as coyote vital zone. Gun: 11-87 Super Magnum. Carlson Coyote Choke= .665 and Carlson Full choke= .700. 40 yard results: .665 Coyote Choke= 1-1/4 oz #4 Pheasant load; 12 out of 169 in the plate (12/169) 7% pattern. 3 inch No. 4 Buck; 6/41=15% pattern. 3 inch 1-7/8oz. BB;11/94=11%. [3 inch 1-7/8 BB .690 Rem. Turkey choke=9/94 or 9.5%]. 50 yard results= .665 choke. 1-7/8 BB; 9/94=9.5%. .700 full choke; 1-7/8 BB; 5/94=5%. T Hevi-shot, .665 choke 0/54=0% Try Again. T Hevi shot. .665 choke 3/54=5.5% (hits on edges of plate). T Hevi shot .700 full choke; 7/54=13%. Conclusion: The Coyote choke does great wit soft lead but not Hevi shot Dead Coyote shot shells. The full choke does great with T Hevi shot. Got the same results with the Mossberg. This is why you need to pattern your gun. With #4 pheasant shot the full choke gave more uniform patterns on the 40 inch board than the Coyote tube but not quite as dense. The coyote tube restriction is awesome with 2oz #6 turkey shells at 40 yards. So, lead works great in the Coyote tube, Hard T shot needs less squeeze for a dead right there coyote. Now go hammer them dogs!
The best advice I could give anybody after reading some of these comments is every firearm is going to react differently with each choke and each brand of ammo so the best thing I can say for you to do if you want this Carlson choke for your particular shotgun find out what kind of load that you want to shoot through it whether it be 00 or #4 and get a couple different brands of that same size and test them all out to see which one works the best.
Yeah I have not shot it with number 4 yet but. But if other people would like to have a video done with this choke tube shooting number 4 buck shot then I can put one together. Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing.
Next time use plain brown wrapping paper with a bright 2 or 3" dot in the middle. You might try shooting 3 or 4 consecutive shots at the pattern paper. Mark the target, and put up a new target, change your choke and shoot the same number of shots as before. Concentra on your sight picture while holding the front sight at 6:00 of the dot. Don't, don't, do not use Kentutey windage during the test. In your notes, list the gun, ammo, date, time, and anything else that might have a bearing on the data of the test...
Thank you for watching and as always if there is anything that y'all want me to talk about or show I will try and do my best to make a video on it. So any request that you have just comment on one of our videos and we will try our best to help thanks again for watching and be sure to share us and follow us on twitter.
I just picked up the carlson tube and a kick's tube. I basically want something that can be used for turkey load and at the same time be able to shoot 00 bucks. It appears the carlson choke is best for this.
+Bobby Blake I have had great success with this choke tube at distance of around 50 yards. I flip flop between the carillons coyote choke tube and the standard full choke tube that is in the video as well. In close quarter situations I use the full choke. In longer situations such as fields or really open woods I go with the Carlson.
Hey Southern Extreme, I just got in the Buck Shot Choke down at the post office today from Carlson's. I liked the Dead Coyote Choke Tube so much, I thought I would try this too. Yes if you do not mind use #4 Buck in that Dead Coyote tube and show us what you think. As always thanks for your videos.
Okay I will try to put something together and post it. Im not sure when I will get it done because I need to go pick some #4 shot up but I will let you know when it goes up.
Dump coyotes out to 60 y with 3in #4 Buck no problem with Coyote Choke. Browning BPS 12g 28" Invector Plus. Hit em on a run and watch em spin all the way around. Took a leg off once but he was at about 20-25 and tried to steal the bird off my decoy lol. So much for that hide...
#4 buck is the biggest shot you should shoot thru the coyote choke tube .705 (improved modified). BB #4 buck work best. 00 Buck try improved cylinder. 720 or light modified .715
Ryan Lewis Not sure if you've ever tested this popular "myth". I've found it to be completely false! My gun shoots 00 buck the best thru a full, or improved modified(.700 - .710). Patterns best with a .665 - .680 for #4 buck. It's true that the .665 is too tight for the 00 buck, but it works great for the #4, or smaller. I get out and do my own pattern testing(often), instead of just reading stuff off of the Internet.
Your test would have shown much more accurate results had you shot seated from a bench with sandbags front and rear. Shooting standing from a metal fence post doesn't cut it. Try the Federal Reduced Recoil LE rounds. NOTHING touches them for pattern tightness. The Coyote won't notice a 100 FPS difference in velocity, trust me.
Those Magnum Blend loads KICK like a three legged ninja ! I've killed birds with the 12 gauge, 3" Magnum Blend loads. The birds fold up like a lawn chair and don't even twitch.
I know that this video is old and by now the coyotes probably ate you ... But for future reference when testing shot patterns instead of using a regular target use a couple of long prices of parchment or freezer paper taped side by side, it works better because you see the full pattern and it's cheaper to buy a roll of paper than individual targets. It's also good to tets "bullet drop" in rifles .
and forgot don't use 3 inch use 2&3/4 buckshot ull get way way better patterns truthfully not much difference but better rd they also make a winlite buckshot killer out to 60 yrds and military buckshot at Walmart is good I'm like use full choke sale that Carlson unless u gonna skeet shoot
In the late 1970’s I walked into a place called NuLine Gunsmithing in Harvester, Missouri. I told them my Cousin had a Winchester Shotgun with Screw in chokes and asked them what they know about Chokes ??? They pointed to a piece of paper taped to the wall. It showed that small shot needed more choke and Bigger shot ..ei.. 2, BB, 4 Buck needed less choke. I was forever changed after that moment !!! I had them work on a Franchise AL-48 in 12 gauge installing threads for the “Winchokes”. Then I bought an extra barrel for my Remington 870 Magnum and it Came with 3 chokes. Bought a Browning Gold 10 Guage Auto that also came with screw in chokes. Then I got several after Market chokes. Did a lot of testing at 40 yards with a 30 inch circle and an inner 18 inch core circle: Softer shot requires more choke. Harder Lead (Win AA Trap, Copper coated..etc..) does not need as much choke. Adding more choke will increase inner core density. Steel and Tungsten do not deform and therefore do not need as much choke as lead shot. I got 100% percent patterns with Winchester and Remington “00” Buckshot in both 12 and 10 guage with Factory Modified chokes. 100% patterns with Copper Plated Lead BB shot with 0.040 to .050” Full to Extra Full chokes. Copper Plated Lead 2 shot best with .060” choke. Copper Plated Lead 4 shot best with .070” choke. Steel Shot Duck and Goose loads; Modified best with F and T shot. Impr Mod .025” best with BB, 1 Light Full .030” 2 and 3 Full .035” with 4 shot
When your testing ammo,...... you remove all chance of human error,.... shoot from a bench. I expect buckshot to hit where I aim,.......it don't,.... I consider it a waste of money. Get you a goose gun,......or an old bolt action gun they had longer barrels and shot good patterns at 50 yards with just the fixed choke. You would do better with a deer slug.

Try #4 buck loads that should give you a better pattern with both choke tubes
Thank you for taking the time to make this vidio. It helped me make deside to get the carlson coyote choke tube. I agree to do look like a young George W.
Try some #4 buckshot. You’d be amazed at the results

The coyote choke is extra full right. So, can i shoot 1 buck in it ?

Back in the day it was bb or #2 shot on the homestead
Even out here in Arizona plan on making a long shot
I shot the Carlson's Dead Coyote Choke with number 4 buckshot as recommended by Shane at Carlson's. It shot great at 50 yards.
Yeah I have not shot it with number 4 yet but. But if other people would like to have a video done with this choke tube shooting number 4 buck shot then I can put one together. Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing.
Try the full with Remington low recoil 00 buck some guns love it will blow your mind on the pattern at long ranges
2 3/4 low recoil buck
Can u shoot tungsten through that choke?

Same kind of conditions here in Pennsylvania
Apparently, Forrest Gump was actually from NC.
Try an improved cylinder choke tube you will like it much better.
Oh wanted to say thanks for your great video

I agree as well.
Is it true in North Caroline every year you have to pay taxes for owning gun's?
Be sure to follow us on Twitter twitter.com/SouthernXtremTV Thanks for watching!!
Screw Twitter!
Choke luvs #1 buckshot in my 11-87
Have you had any luck with the carlson choke and if so out to how many yards?
+Bobby Blake I have had great success with this choke tube at distance of around 50 yards. try #4 buck or even BB
Killed 3 on one stand this week with REM 3 1/2” Nitro #4 shot Turkey ..30-40 yards
I guess you know I’m the guy you asked to hunt my spots in Cleveland?

OK great vid..but how do you kill two possibly three coyotes? do you not go looking for your kills? or just nervous on camera...
Please clarify your questions.
Khong có tiếng việc ko nge được
I hear the tighter the choke with 00buck the looser the pattern
#4 buck is the biggest shot you should shoot thru the coyote choke tube .705 (improved modified).
BB #4 buck work best.

This vid was solid as heck, no reason for the ratio imo
length of barrel ???
copper jacket barrel length isn’t important. It’s all about the choke tube and the load of buckshot.

I'll be honest the patterns sux try a improved modified and buckshot ull hit all shots on target at 40-50 yrds
and forgot don't use 3 inch use 2&3/4 buckshot ull get way way better patterns truthfully not much difference but better rd they also make a winlite buckshot killer out to 60 yrds and military buckshot at Walmart is good I'm like use full choke sale that Carlson unless u gonna skeet shoot

Where's your eye protection?
If you’re going to shoot at the same target, at least circle the shot holes so you clearly know what you shot and when… no guessing.
When your testing ammo,...... you remove all chance of human error,.... shoot from a bench.

You would do better with a deer slug.
Damn 60 bucks now.
Use bb shot it's probably the best for coyotes
You still using Baby Giraffe ?
That mixed with an ant eater matting call.
who are the other people? you keep saying "we"
Poor dude sounds stressed just speaking, sure you don’t need to take a good dump or something man?
Not a good comparison.
Has anybody ever told you that u look like a young George W. Bush?
Thanks for watching. And no no one has ever said that.
why in the he'll would he be shooting off a wrought iron fence for a video? Amateur!!
anvil hammer who cares.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
