nick gillett - The FBI report was to give waverers cover, not answers. Jeff Flake isn't a fool. Kavanaugh has become a powerful motivator, for Republicans in November. If Democrats and others appalled by the past two years get disillusioned and don't bother to vote in the midterms; then Trump's mocking of an attempted rape victim will have been the best thing he could have done......for Republicans.

It's always the same story: the three "moderate Republicans" in the Senate stage a little theater piece about civic duty and proper procedure, and a few days later invariably vote against their own stated concerns and with the rest of their party. Why expect something different this time?
That said, I vomit a little every time when I read/hear the expression "moderate Republican." The fact that they style themselves with that label really doesn't mean that the press should buy it, especially when their voting record shows it to be patently false. Besides, considering the trajectory of the Republican Party over the past 10-15 years, "moderate Republican" sounds a lot like "moderate racist" or "moderate fascist" or "moderate tax dodger" or "moderate sexual predator" - or all of the above, really.

It'll be fun when the blackmail material on him finally leaks. That sudden 180 after golfing with Trump, he was told about his Kompromat, probably gotten when the Russians hacked the RNC servers in 2016 (But didn't release anything). Most likely Craigslist rent boys or something similar.
Best tactic for the DNC operation is to try and find the blackmail material as well, and let it leak, remove the hold over him. Of course it'll destroy his career, but that's a added bonus.
But someday, even if only historically, it will 'come out'.

Because both of those parties already testified to congress under oath, a congressional committee that has the power to subpoena, which the FBI does not have unless it's doing a criminal investigation, which this was not as no charges have been filed.
So interviewing Ford would only open her up to purger herself, and the point of the investigation was to find corroborating evidence to her claims, not to see if they could make her change her story. What would they have asked her that wasn't already asked?
And the same holds for Kavanaugh. What would they even ask him? Prove he wasn't at some unknown place, at an unknown date at an unknown time?
On the Ramirez claim the people she actually says were at the party that she claims the flashing occurred, all say they don't remember any such thing. The only people that have come forward are people that are saying that they saw him drunk at various points, which doesn't corroborate anything.

Already Precedence Fake is the laughter of the world, while the US are quickly loosing allies all over the world due to his infant impulsive behavior.
The US went in two years from being a factor of world stabilization and peace, to becoming a major risk and possible cause of war.
And while I wholeheartedly agree on the critics against China, I don't think Dogald's lack of diplomacy will help.
Yes, China exports far more than it imports - by the way, a chain that was started by the Americans themselves,
they started the destruction of their own local economy and market to serve their rich - .
But while modern China might look in nothing like Mao's China, they have a history in which millions are left to die for the "greater cause", they have a government with real power (keep dreaming, Great Pretender), they have an enormous internal market and they have Europe willing to replace American companies in China and trade with China (a very dangerous liaison, to be played with very cautious strategic care). Africa is already China-owned, Chinese already own or participate large companies in Europe (Mercedes, Volvo, ...). And with the Great Pretender attacking everybody, it's seldom wise to fight on a war on to fronts at once.
I'm pretty sure Europeans did prefer doing business with the US. Precedence Fake is altering that ...

    • @DJHise
      @DJHise Před 5 lety +11

      Trenton Johnson,
      1. Russia is not more equipped than the US.
Our military spending is the highest it the world by a massive margin. We outspend the next 12 nations combined, 11 of whom are our allies. It is wasteful spending, but not even close to wasteful enough that we've lost our military superiority.
      2. Neither Hillary nor Putin is stupid enough to declare war against the other, nor escalate to a point where war was unavoidable. Escalations would only be to save face on the national stage: Putin needs to show we can't control him, and American needs to show Putin can't control us.
Consequences to violating the no fly zone can mean many things from Russia establishing their own zones and enforcing them against the US, down to nonviolent economic sanctions. The same way we don't want war with Russia, Putin doesn't want war with the US.
He will only do what he can to subvert us without using planes, guns, and bombs. His Cold War mentalities can only manifest in a Hot Peace. His tactics for subverting the US come down to cyber attacks, undermining our political systems and government stability, economic tactics, international support, etc.
      3. Also game theory and experienced diplomats can comment on this dilemma: Submitting to "threats of war" is can be worse than being prepared for it.
Ex. If thieves rob a house, the cops SHOULD try to stop them, even though the thieves may be violent.
Those cop's lives are undoubtedly more valuable than the possessions being stolen, but if the risk of violence incurred by stopping the thieves is enough to stop cops from interfering at all, then the consequences are WORSE. We'd create a society in which crimes are not even inconvenienced, and crime would sky rocket. Society as a whole suffers.
War is the threat of violence amplified many times over. When war seems so horrible that you back down from mere threats of it, then you are teaching nations that you can be controlled by those mere threats. Responding to threats concedes international standing, power, undermines negotiations, etc. Being able to stand up to threats from a foreign hostile power is often wiser than blindly submitting.

And again, he admitted more than once to have a few too many and to doing things he regrets. The only thing related to drinking he denied that was he ever drank to the point where he did not remember what happened the previous night (blackout). Which, BTW, was a stupid line of questioning. They were trying to set it up where he couldn't even deny the allegations because they'll just say "well, maybe you did it during one of the nights you blacked out".
