  • Casino History was a series of videos I made on the Velvet The Lion CZcams channel that went over the history of many different casinos in Las Vegas. The videos were deleted since the original channel was completely removed as well. While my current channel, Jaggy the Jaguar, is more focused towards gaming and game collecting-related content, this will be an exception. Almost all Casino History videos will be uploaded (One every two days) due to it's popularity, though they will be edited due to copyright issues and the fact that the series is no longer continuing.
    I've definitely learned from this series as many people have criticized it for my poor narration, pronunciation of various names and words, and inaccurate facts.
    For some reason, I never bothered to credit the CZcamsr who provided the drone footage seen in the intro when these videos were first uploaded. His name is Curtis Billy Haines Jr.
    Original video: • Las Vegas Aerial 4k St...
    Channel: / @curtisbillyhainesjr5214
    ========================================
    In 1973, MGM decided to build their own hotel and casino. Helped with controversial CEO, Kirk Kerkorian, the MGM Grand would become a staple of Las Vegas history, for both a good and bad reason.
    Note: I never ended up making a part 2 to this video. It was supposed to be about the casino's history as Bally's but I thought it was too short to make a video out of. Also looking back, oh GOD WHY WAS I SPEAKING SO CLOSE TO THE MICROPHONE?!

    The parents of a friend of mine were staying at the MGM Grand when the fire broke out and were trapped in their room. Luckily, they kept their cool and used wet towels and a blanket to shore up the door. They were rescued with no injury - however, it was a story that is still talked about to this day.

      Thank goodness they were okay. They must've turned off HVAC as well. That was the biggest killer. Most of the deaths occurred in smokeless rooms because HVAC filtered out the smoke but the CO still came in and killed them.

    This video was very well written and edited. Plus, your voice narrative is pleasant to hear. Really good work. You definitely have a knack for this and I always look forward to your next video.

    Thx for posting this video :) Brings back fond memories of our 1975 family vacation to Las Vegas, we visited the new MGM grand hotel, even have 16mm home movies walking up to the entrance where the statues stood.
    Yep, a real lion was still on display inside @ that time as well.

    Great video but did not explain the way, and when the new MGM grand was built, the one standing today across from Luxor.

    I had a roommate years ago back in the early 1980's and he would eat peanut butter on toast for breakfast every single day.

    My memory of the MGM Grand is of the model of the city of OZ dominating the main room.

    "Kerkorian would often exploit many parts of the casino for his own personal gain." Is this the mush that they teach you kids in school today -- when you use your own property, you're "exploiting"? Also, it's Ra-quel' Welch (accent on the second syllable) and Janet Leigh (pronounced Lee, not Lay) The picture at 6:45 is Shecky Green, not Fred Macmurray (and not Macennmurray). Jai Alai is pronounced "Hi A-li"

    The entry of the MGM Grand was the blandest thing ever. Just a huge monolith with no connection to the brand. Very 1970s. No taste.
