About the "tragic incidents in Kpop last year": yes, many idols killed themsleves last year, Sulli, Cha in Ha, Goo Hara... And even before that, Jonghyun and so many others. The most tragic about that? None of them lived past 28, and they received hate for the most trivial things. Believe it or not, Sulli was hated on because of things ranging from not wearing a bra under her shirt (who cares!), to pictures of her birthday that weren't even offensive and just featured her smiling and hugging friends. V himself lost two friends to suicide, and BTS were close to Jonghyun and attended his funeral.

i just want to add that bts got a lot of hate domestically for starting out as underdogs from a small company and then becoming a threat to the industry once they started growing despite their lack of industry power/backing (it's similar to the reason they face a lot of resistance from the us industry, in addition to xenophobia). they proved that a genuinely talented group backed by ordinary people rather than an industry can disrupt the entire system of established power, which is scary. it's not just antis and fandoms of other groups shitting on them online - even the media has tried to suppress them or spread damaging rumors about them. it's kind of a known secret that other large entertainment companies played a role in suppressing them using their influence, and it's not unlikely that they helped facilitate one of the more vicious fanwars between another group when antis were pushing a particular malicious career-damaging fabrication.
there's a word they refer to themselves as a lot in lyrics, "baepsae" (which is also the title of a bts song) which in english is a bird called a "crow tit." it comes from a korean saying "if a crow tit (tiny bird with short legs) tries to walk like a stork (long legs), it'll break its legs" - i.e. if you try reaching for things outside your means you will hurt yourself, so aspire to what's within your means rather than push beyond that. in a way, it can also be taken as "know your place and be satisfied with it and don't disrupt the status quo trying to be something you're not." so as group from a small company with little resources overtaking big name groups from industry giants and receiving a lot of hate for it, bts has reclaimed the word "baepsae" - you say i'm a short legged bird who's wrong for aspiring to be a stork? that i should give it up before i hurt myself trying to be something bigger than i was meant to be? i'll show you that "baepsae" can overcome that pain and achieve dreams of being something great, and criticize a system where baepsae (disadvantaged people) are expected to be satisfied or else struggle to keep up with storks, who are unfairly advantaged just because of circumstance.

Okay, serious essay incoming, who knows if you'll even read all this lol
For me, the reason I don't watch their videos anymore is that I find them hypocritical, which is very clearly shown in the main incident that happened between this channel and ARMY. Basically, the other half of DKDKTV, Danny (the guy in this video is David) was on a podcast with this K-pop journalist called Tamar. Now, Tamar has her own nasty history with BTS and ARMY. She's repeatedly published articles about BTS with facts that are either misleading or outright wrong, including articles that have harmed their career, but she never apologizes or acknowledges what she did and instead acts like a victim being persecuted by "haters." She's not a real journalist in my opinion, because she is way too biased, self-interested and often times her research is shoddy, but sadly that isn't rare in today's media. SO, yeah, already DKDKTV having her on this podcast as a guest to comment on BTS at all wasn't the best choice and had people annoyed.
Then they actually had to go and say borderline offensive things about BTS during that podcast and that just poured gasoline on the embers. Tamar, like usual, tried to defend her crap journalism by saying she has to use BTS for clickbait because when it comes to K-pop, they are above and beyond the most popular group (they're the most popular group in the world period) and sometimes the only way for her to talk about what she wants to talk about is to include BTS in the conversation. Now, if it was as innocent as that, it would be annoying yes, but ARMY wouldn't hate her like they do. But like I explained earlier, that isn't all she does. Then her and Danny basically said that BTS has oversaturated the market and are everywhere and as a result people are getting sick of only hearing about them and that it would be nice to see some new faces, aka that other K-pop groups should get a chance to shine.
Now, on the surface, sure, that doesn't sound like the worst thing to say, since it's true in a sense, BTS ARE everywhere and yeah, I'm sure some people are sick of them. BUT it's honestly ridiculous when you take a closer look, especially when it comes to the subject of K-pop. Most of K-pop is very curated by companies and corporations. And for years and years, the K-pop scene was specifically lorded over by three companies known as The Big 3, SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment. And when I say lorded over, I mean it. These three companies had (and to an extent still have) a chokehold over that industry and for the most part, only their groups had any chance of getting popular because these companies had and have to this day, deep ties to broadcast companies and all other types of companies and people in the entertainment industry and media in South Korea. If you piss off these companies they will not hesitate to blacklist your ass and shut you out of the industry and they've even tried it with BTS many times. Now, K-pop tends to have a very high turner over when it comes to groups and how long they stay popular and there's even a term for it, "the seven-year curse" because compared to the hundreds and hundreds of K-pop groups that have debuted over the years, very very few last beyond seven years and even fewer manage to actually stay relevant that long. Nowadays, to be honest, few groups even make it past two or three years because so many groups debut every single year. So in light of this, people in the K-pop industry, including fans, are very used to always seeing new faces and it's a very normal phenomenon for K-pop fans to migrate to new groups after old ones have lost their shine or relevancy.
BTS, on the other hand, is a total and complete anti-thesis to this model for many reasons. First of all, they started off with a small company. For many years, Big Hit Entertainment had like 12 employees. For reasons I already explained, it's incredibly difficult for groups from smaller companies to get any kind of foothold in the industry, let alone become even remotely as successful as BTS has become. Second, the fact that BTS just continues to get more and more famous as the years go by is also not normal for a "K-pop" group, because even the most popular K-pop groups in the past always ended up falling off even if they do last longer. They don't continue to rise in respect and popularity, they reach of peak of success, and then tend to drop off rather rapidly over a few years as the members' age and other newer groups come out and replace them and are pushed by these Entertainment companies instead. Third, BTS did all this while also doing music their own way and actually talking about important social issues and just their real lives and feelings in general, when by the time they'd come onto the scene, most K-pop music was very shallow, sanitized and controlled by corporate interests. So, BTS succeeded against all these odds and trust me, plenty of bullshit from this industry that in no way wanted them to succeed.
So, for Tamar and Danny to imply that BTS should take a step back and give other groups a chance as if they haven't earned their success a hundred times over, it is absurd. They basically want K-pop to go back to the status quo and how it was before because neither of them actually gives a shit about the people involved in any of these groups, while pretending to care by hiding behind the idea that they just want other groups to be able to have success like BTS has. But in the model they support, the traditional K-pop system, most of the people involved in these K-pop groups don't have the chance to earn true success because they are trapped in the talent meat grinder that is the K-pop industry. If they actually cared about these people, they wouldn't want BTS to take a step back, they would support them and the changes they could and are bringing to the K-pop industry that would allow artists and talent in the K-pop industry to have more artistic and personal freedoms. But like I said, they don't actually care, because they actually thrive off the constant turn-over and controversy. Also, both Danny (and David) and Tamar, whatever their personal opinions and feelings are, make mad money off of BTS. If they really wanted to support other K-pop artists and make them as big as BTS, they should put their money where their mouth is and actually do that, but they can't, because if they did, they would have to sacrifice their profit and clout to do so. And when they are called out on their bullshit, they get incredibly defensive. Danny, for example, said all sorts of horrible and offensive shit on the live chat for that podcast and twitter afterward, cursing out his own subscribers. And like most online personalities, well, let's be real, people in general, when they get rightfully called out, instead of addressing some of the real issues and complaints, they focus on the nastiest comments in order to divert attention and act like they are being unfairly treated and criticized. Rinse, wash, and repeat.
So really, for them to talk about their fall out with ARMY, even vaguely, while breaking down this song, is pretty ironic lol It's not like they are totally wrong to bring it up since I'm sure they did receive a lot of unnecessary vitriol during that whole incident, but it's not like they were some innocent fresh roses who did nothing wrong. They deserved to get called out and handled it very poorly. So, in a sense, they reacted to rightful anger with anger full of malice and it all turned to shit, just like what the song talks about.
So there, a basic overview of the beef not only between ARMY and DKDKTV but the K-pop industry as a whole lol

So why do BTS get so much hate? The problem is that it comes from numerous different sides and different motives. At first the hate came from the Korean underground hip-hop scene that accused RM and Suga of selling out. Secondly, the K-pop scene in Korea has very toxic elements; fans of the big, established groups basically bullied BTS and ARMY when they started (and unfortunately it’s still going on). Then there is the prejudice in the general public outside of Korea, where BTS are often portrayed as overrated and artificial. Your own idea of BTS was pretty much influenced by that perception when you started reacting to them. Finally, a lot of hate comes from racism, toxic masculinity and sexism (towards the fans).

  • @dilaylad1903
    @dilaylad1903 Před 4 lety +157

Reasons why they were (and somehow still are) hated on in Korea: In Korea, background is VERY important. Connection can get you anywhere. But BTS are nobodies that came from a company on the cusp on bankrupcy. They also happen to not have one single member from Seoul (and in Korea, Seoul people tend to look down a bit on you if you are from another region or speak with a heavily accented satoori(dialect). Kind of like city people sometimes look down on people with a southern drawl, in the US). BTS even made a son about it called Paldogangsan. They also never pendered to Korean media, and after being ridiculed one too many times on TV because of their style, appearance and underdog status, they went on to create their own shows. You must also understand that in Asia in eneral, fandoms can get very vicious: BTS, when they started winning awards over their peers from bigger companies, had to face hate from the fandoms of all those big names: it was so f*cking ugly. I was already a fan since 2013 and let me tell you: we experienced some of the hardest times of our lives back then. Nowadays, because they made it on their own, Korean media are doing everything in their power to have them back on their show, but BTS won't forget easily what they went through because of them. Jut recently, JTBC tried to stir up trouble for BTS and their company by illegaly infiltrating their building to dig up dirt on them under the orders of YG(another company). They didn't find anyting so they lied on national TV about BTS being involved in a lawsuit. Check out the articles on line about that.
Reasons why BTS are hated on in the West: well it's pretty simple. They are asian, do not sing in english or spanish (the most commonly accepted languages worldwide for music consumption), they are doing too well and threaten America's dominion on the charts (second best selling artist in the world after Drake, surpassing all other american artists). People have a sheep mentality and tend to jump on the Let's-hate-BTS-bandwagon. They are also not taken very seriously in terms of music, and the fact that people refuse to read subtitles and understand is also a factor: how can you know if their music is deep or not if you don't use lyrics, smh, some people I swear... I mean, you have seen the reaction of people when Parasite, a Korean movie, won the best film at the Oscars: even Trump had to chime in and be racist about it.

@@AmariLeone Yeah, there's a lot of social background that goes into Western hate specifically too. As a boy band, they are often automatically dismissed because the stereotype is that only young, teenage girls like boybands. With a typical underlying dismissal of things that women like as important, it's no surprise that if a female says that they like BTS, it's dismissed pretty quickly. Guys don't always like to speak up if they DO like BTS, so I always love those who are loud and proud. Western media also does a lot to push this narrative of BTS being only for young, screaming fangirls. If you watch most coverage of them when fans are present, you won't see many (if any) older fans or male fans, despite them being a huge part of the fandom. Interviews about them are rarely deep or even focused on their music for that matter, although it seems to be getting a bit better. So the narrative that is pushed for Westerners who may have never encountered them before is that they are Asian, don't speak English, are pretty, and just another boybad that only appeals to young girls which must mean that they aren't deep or worth looking at.

Funny of David being so petty when he was the one that posted an apology video ( like a booty guru, barefaced, with the fake sadness), he asked for our forgiveness, that he don't agree with Danny and tamarindo, that he had no say in the podcast and all of that... Pathetic, but I don't expect anything else from both of them...
Their ( David, Danny, and Tamarindo) problem with army, is that to them, we are the ones preventing the groups from the BIG3 ( that they love so much) to succeed. Because the majority of armys are not kpop fans, we couldn't care less about other groups, what they are doing, etc... And they have this weird notion that armys are obliged to make other groups as successful as BTS.
That we have to stop buying BTS music, voting for BTS in award shows, and that we do that for their faves... Because apparently, these groups don't have a fandom. They are always on TT to hate on BTS, but to support their faves, to so much. I had fans of a group that once upon a time was a competition to BTS, say to me that they don't see the point in buying an album, because it's a waste of money, and 2 days later were crying because a group disbanded, like honey you refuse to support the artist because love doesn't pay the bills, but you are going to cry because their career is over? What?
In Brazil, in the first half of 2019, we were THRETNEND by kpop CZcamsrs that if we didn't buy tickets to a random boy group concert, then BTS would not come to brazil( one of the CZcamsrs is friends with the owner of the company responsible for this group concert)... I saw, armys on the tl, crying because they believed them, purchased tickets for this concert and when BTS STADIUM concert in Brazil was announced they didn't have money to go...
The kpop community hates BTS for being successful because they are elitist. If the group is not from a Big 3 company, then it is not talented enough to succeed.
And all 3 f them are fans of BIG3 groups that are nowhere near as famous as BTS.
    So now you know...

To kpoppers saying how other groups deserve a chance and we should listen to other groups before voting for BTS randomly for each award they are nominated for and we were like wtf we are ARMY so of course we'll support bts in all awards we won't stop because you think your group deserves a chance if you really think that then vote more promote your groups music but nooo. I mean... they are 20 year olds, who spend almost half of their life living with the same people (the BTS members) and they still know more about emotions and their value than many of the "grown ups".

I'm back lol I wanted to say something else as well, but I didn't want to add onto my monster of a comment from before. But what David said at the end of the video about using anger to do something constructive and revolutionary triggered me, since like you so astutely concluded, he basically tried to use the video and song to scold ARMY.
Yes, like any fandom or group on the internet, the ARMY has a lot of toxic individuals who do dumb shit and are just overall unproductive and negative. However, as a whole, the ARMY is actually a really revolutionary group of people in my opinion. We span all ages, races, and ethnicities and for the most part, are a very welcoming and inclusive community. There has never been a fandom like us I don't think.
One of the major reasons BTS succeeded despite all the crazy odds they were up against is because of ARMY. When BTS didn't have support from anyone else and in fact had active opposition, their fans were there to provide that support and help them push through it all. I want to give you some examples. Okay, when BTS was first starting out, they had very little money and were the subject of ridicule from many other K-pop fandoms and just people online in general, who would make fun of their looks and things like their clothes. So what did ARMY do? They straight up bought BTS designer clothes so that ppl wouldn't have an opportunity to shit on them for that. Another example would be when BTS started to get big Stateside. Now, in the beginning, and to this very day, BTS and US radio has a rocky relationship because of things like xenophobia, racism, payola etc. So back in the day, ARMY organized multiple groups across many different states in order to constantly call into radio stations and request BTS to be played on the radio, as well as constantly voting for their songs to get played and having to put up with rude radio people who would make fun of BTS or hang up on us, all the while we would send flowers and thank you cards to any radio hosts that did play their music. Those are only two things, but over the years, ARMY has done whatever we needed to do in order to make BTS succeed and fought whoever we needed to fight, which in itself is a revolutionary thing to do because, by all usual metrics, BTS should not be as famous as they are in South Korea, let alone the entire world. Who would have ever thought the biggest musical group in the world would be seven Korean guys? Let alone seven Korean guys who stand for what BTS stands for and make the kind of meaningful music they make. Of course, the reason ARMY rides so hard for BTS is that they proved time and again they deserve that kind of loyalty and support.
Another thing the ARMY is known for is charity. ARMY as a whole has not only participated in but been the instigators of so much charity over the years and donated a lot of, money, time and goods to various causes. We even have a large fanbase called OneInAnARMY that is exclusively about doing charity. One infamous case was when Star Wars was doing this charity campaign on twitter to raise money, the cap being a million dollars. The campaign was supposed to take place over one month I think, but ARMY found out about it and we used the hashtag so much in order to help that we literally raised that million dollars in one single day lol ARMY is also known for bringing attention to and calling out corruption in the entertainment industry since we've had to do that over the years in order to help BTS get through all the constant walls put up against them. Overall, the ARMY is the most educated and organized fandom I've ever seen and we definitely do use our anger to actually accomplish things and fight against injustice.

@Juli juli I totally agree! So many people forget that they are just humans. We don't know them personally and pretending to do so is a bit weird. All we know is what they show us and how they act with each other (which makes them look very likable but we still don't know them personally). Even if they wanted to show their personal lives more to connect with ARMYs I don't think it would be a good idea since everything they do is so strictly monitored by the whole world. If I were them I would be happy about every tiny bit of privacy even if I loved my fans and wanted to share everything with them. It's not only the fans who are watching them it is the whole world judging, evaluating and trying to analyse everything they put out. I often feel bad for them because they can almost never be relaxed (only when they are home I guess and even there I would be scared of ppl breaking into the house - but I guess they have a lot of security) and they can't just do ordinary things or go somewhere without protection like every other person.
I just wished people could be their fans while still treating them like humans and respecting their privacy, personal opinions etc. That counts for every celebrity, not only BTS. ARMYs are still one of the best and respectful fandoms I have ever witnessed but there are also many 'fans' (many new ones as well since they became famous worldwide so fast) who are in my opinion not worthy of being called a 'fan'. I guess it is normal for 'celebrities' (I don't like that word) but that doesn't mean it's right.

They did a podcast with a journalist who spread false rumours about BTS that could have seriously impacted their career (they got a lot of hate for that false rumour) and she’s well known as a BTS hater on twt. During that podcast they started shading armys and BTS, saying stuff like BTS needs to stop releasing music because it’s time for other groups to get the spotlight, but then they were like ‘maybe not’ because they get clout by covering things about BTS. After that armys felt betrayed and got angry with the other guy, this guy then started apologizing for his friend, but the the other dude was already clapping back and hardcore insulting armys. I believe it was last year but honestly time blurs for me, but dkdktv did a podcast with a journalist that started a rumour about BTS that could have truly damaged them and impacted their career, the journalist also shaded BTS a hell lot through twitter and could never take ARMYs clapping back and could never own up for the sht they said, so in the podcast they said sht like how BTS should stop releasing music to let other groups shine bcs it was their time now, though they backtracked bcs they made more content out of BTS than other groups, so, ARMY clappedback and tho David apologized, Danny got really heated and started telling armys we were "pc police", "btches", "Fck you", etc etc. I unsubscribed, I do still watch some videos, but I can't fully support two-faced people.

For example, in one of the video they said "people are exhausted that bts are getting so much exposure and that other idols/groups should get a chance" in short they were indirectly hinting that BTS should stepback and give others a chance (as if it's in BTS' hands). They also dragged BTS' bodyguards for doing their job of protecting BTS and you may ask why? 'Cause they couldn't meet BTS lol. Although I didn't follow the drama too much since i wasn't subscribed to their channel. I think that guy's friend said that he's too tired of seeing bts succeeding that much and that they need to step down and have new faces pop up. Which is smth we've been hearing since 2016 and it doesn't make sense because
1-we are not really blocking anyone from succeeding. We are not trending hate tags nor making petitions to the government to get other groups to disband (which is stuff that happened to bts multiple times already) those groups just need to release good music and have fans who support them and they'll succeed
2-it's hypocritical for them to say that when they make huge profits off of bts's name, they could easily just stop talking about them and promote the other groups they want to see
3-no one had a problem when the industry was literally under the control of the big 3 (the once most powerful companies in the kpop industry)for example: no one had any problems seeing only big 3 winning all the awards for years. But then bts becames the first not from the first 3 to win a big award and by their third award people already started complaining that they are creating a monopoly on the industry and are ruining it for other groups when in fact, the flux of kpop groups entering the us market after bts is proof that bts managed to break the doors to the west and provide way more opportunities to kpop groups than just an already way too oversaturated korean or japanese market

I actually used to be a big supporter of their channel, and at that time the people who were following them we’re very like close knit (and many of us are still really close friends) even with Danny and David but there were just some things that i couldn’t support (like a three strikes your out kinda thing and it wasn’t about fandom stuff cause I’m sure ppl told you about that as well lol) So while I love dkdktvs explained series and some other vids I had to kinda quietly stop supporting them personally. But yeah ppl put way too much effort into hating rather than just moving on with their life.

Dkdktv do have some informative explanation videos and army’s really liked them and supported them, they grew their channel with the help of us and the bts content they’ve made, but some time ago they decided they want to give a platform to a journalist who spread nasty things about bts and we were really disappointed about the things they’ve said in that podcast.
We really supposed them and when they started agreeing with that bts hater we felt kinda betrayed.
We noticed that he kept saying that we’re hateful towards them “with no reason” and that our anger is wasted but we did have a reason, and a pretty good one, you can’t say the things they did about something we care so much, about something that basically gives you money without receiving backlash.

Honestly I don't think there's one specifc reason fro the hate BTS recieves, but just living ur life in general can bring haters. Idk exactly why they feel so strongly about a boy group but ur right.
-quite a bit of the hate is from jealous people that can't stand seeing BTS gaining global success.
-but sometimes there's no real reason to it, some ppl just have shit going on in their lives and they feel the need to tear others down to feel superior.
-and sadly, a big portion of the hate we're seeing towards BTS now is a result of ignorance, racism, and the ethnocentric ideas of America and other parts of the world. If you grow up in America, and you've lived your life learning about American culture, and history, there's a high possiblity that when you directly experience other cultures that seem unfamiliar, the first reaction is usually negative.
i say that bc 5 years ago i used to criticize my friend for being into BTS and i just remember being extremely confused by the idea of K-pop and i refused to listen to it because i was'nt used to it so i thought "it must be bad"
and over the summer I became a hardcore ARMY and i still regret that i ever made fun of them. I just remember how happy my friends and I would get when BTS got played on the radio. And then all of a sudden they were doing more interviews and coming to America and we were so happy they were getting recognition.
And then they were on live TV and selling out arenas and I seriously am so proud of how far they've come. They deserve every amount of success that they have, and I believe that BTS has the talent to become a household name. Where everybody knows who they are, and when they finally get equal representation for their achievements.

dkdktv deserved ARMYs anger. but others have already explained.
We and BTS constantly get used and then trashed and sometimes theres a limit as to how much you can take of that. Early in BTSs career, ARMYS lay down and took what people threw at them and chanelled their anger into BTS's sucess...now the fandom is bigger and we can fight back. Kpoppies dont like that at all. BTS went from someones "neighbourhood drum" to the group with the most supportive and pasionate and defensive fandom. Make it Right MV and the words from the boys have constantly thanked us for that. As we say BTS and ARMY only have each other.

Before I liked BTS, I was around the people who disliked them, most of the people just insulted them by calling them "gay pop". Others hated them because of their 'crazy' fans... But all the fandoms have creepy people in them... So idk what they're on about. If they hate the fandom they can still like them and their music. I think they just want to hate them for no reason cause they don't understand how they are so big and don't want them to be. 😔 These are just about the haters which I've been around though, there's haters that do way worse and are racist, but I don't pay attention to that.

people hate on bts for all kinds of reasons, and a lot of it depends on where you are. i can only speak personally to what i've seen in the west, but there's a lot of racism and toxic masculinity because people find their looks to be "too feminine". there have been furious conservative op eds about how kpop is going to make men gay, which as a queer man i find personally hilarious.
the most baffling and infuriating to me though is the hate from within the fandom itself. some solo stans will attack other members, and unfortunately some parts of the fandom feel so entitled to control every aspect of their lives. they lash out any time a member does something they don't approve of (like getting tattoos or trying to have a normal social life when there are dating rumors). they're a small percentage of the fandom but they tend to all band together so they can get pretty loud.

They joked about things that maybe wasn't the best thing to joke about but it's in keeping with their other content so I don't think they were making an exception to shade BTS. They also kind of debated (at least, I wasn't following the, so Idk if there were other incidents) whether BTS' influence is becoming TOO big, or if it's good for the kpop scene. They voiced different opinions and I think everyone's allowed to have opinions and talk about them. I don't expect everyone to only think of BTS first. If the ARMYs who engaged had come back at them with just differing opinions in the debate, that would have been one thing, but there was a lot of the kind of hate UGH! refers to, too.

In regards to DKDKTV, I see a lot of other commenters explaining the situation but I would like to clarify one point. DKDKTV is a duo. The other half of the duo (Danny) was the only member of DKDKTV who was on the podcast that caused all the drama. He is also very unfiltered and hasn't been the biggest fan of BTS or ARMY in the past. David (the guy in this video) is clearly a huge fan of BTS and is much more open minded/filtered. He's the one that has to clean up Danny's messes when he causes drama.
When the whole situation happened, David was dragged through the mud because of his association with Danny and his partnership in the channe. Since then though, David has created his own channel and makes more videos on his own that express very different opinions from Danny.
That's probably why David is so angry in this video particularly. He didnt really do anything to warrant the hate he got or the impact it had on his career.
The people who furiously hate on DKDKTV are exactly the people who inspired UGH! in the first place.

meh that thing of DKDKTV vs Army really illustrates this song in my opinion. Both guys on dkdktv have always praised BTS for their music/message and also like the BTS members themselves. They got a ton of critics when Danny who is the most outspoken and "controversial" did a podcast with a Billboard journalist that apparently Army has beef with. During the podcast they kinda criticized the Bighit (BTS's company) content strategy, especially that app game that they released last year that they felt didn't fit with BTS's message. And they were also talking about how BTS being so dominant in the Kpop market disrupted the cycle of Kpop groups being dominant then fading from spotlight when someone else debuted or made a come back etc. so there was more variety at the top and now BTS just trumps everyone and that leads to some people getting tired of the overexposure.
Honestly they didn't even really criticize BTS themselves but i guess more of the marketing/content strategy? all in all it's a pretty interesting podcast if you wanna listen to it : czcams.com/video/EwfKM4kpu_s/video.html But a lot of Army got really mad and offended by it because the DKDKTV channel grew a lot because of BTS content. There was a mass unsubscribe campain and the guys got "cancelled" and harassed on social media etc. The two guys, are/were media students, worked in recording companies and have some ties with the media and entertainment industry in Seoul so i guess they have a different perspective than adoring fans but they never hated on BTS , overall they are actually very supportive of them so i don't think they deserve the hate at all.

🤣 he is mad you are right 😂
So. From what I know, the other David is the one who started the whole thing. He had an interview with this one lady who writes articles for billboard. Army absolutely hate her... reason: she always downplays bts. She always throws them under the bus but created her career thru them. Anyways. Other David had this interview with her and the topic of conversation upset army. Basically, they said bts needs to move aside and let new faces come out. This was a problem bc, 1. She always sounds like she got paid by the opposite company to write crap about bts. So this is more of that. She is again telling bts to move aside. 2. He agreed with her.
People sent stupid comments out of anger. Then this david got in there and said some stuff he should have not said. I don’t remember what it was but it added wood to the fire...
Reason why army get angry: bts has always been shut down by the industry. Both in Korea and the US. People always use them for clout and then throw them under the bus. People are constantly hoping for them to fail. And thru all this they get soooo much hate. Maybe at some point you will hear all that drama.
What I think they tried to say but failed miserably was: as Koreans they want korea to do well. This means support for anything korean. Aka support ALL kpop and let others “shine”.
Again the problem from this was, the kpop industry and fans hate bts and army and send all the hate this song is about. If you only know.. sent nazis against us, bomb and death threats. Like it’s crazy. So kpop rides on bts success and tries to insert themselves and at the same time try to get bts to move out of the way. There is so much history...
And yes so much petty 😂
Let me know if you have any questions 😂

About the incidents with k-pop idols last year. There was suicides among idols because of the hate towards them. Internet users in Korea are so captious (actually, not only in Korea, but since idols mostly read comments in korean) for some meaningless things. And journalists often worsen a situation without sorting out the problem. Basically, it's because idols are usually considered as some items that can earn money for their company. So there are certain prejudices of how idols should look, speak and act. Some big companies kicked out their own idols if they start to act like they want and tried to do everything to not allow them to be successful. So, going back to the suicide theme, because of the injustice and not receiving the support from their own companies, we lost such talented artists.
Recently, more and more idols taking a break in their career because of the mental health (meaning haters will never stop). BTS know this, since they are part of this crazy world called "entertainment". They are one of the few group who openly can talk about such theme as haters.
If you remember in "Ddaeng" Suga talked about "friends from small companies and hope that they will succeed" (I don't remember the exact lyrics). They always support idols from small companies because they relate to them and they always say that there are lots of unrecognized great artists. Actually, the idols from big and small companies are very friendly among each other. The problem is in the companies itself. Thankfully, BigHit is a great company which treat them so good and protect their rights. "As previously announced, we have submitted evidence collected through fan submissions and our own monitoring to the relevant investigative agency. We have secured the identities of a number of suspects, and some have been fined, while other suspects are under investigation. Although it is difficult to disclose the details of the investigation process at the request of the investigative agency, we wish to notify you that punishments are being given to those involved. There have been cases where suspects appointed attorneys to apologize and ask to come to a settlement, but we will neither make settlements nor give any leniency under any circumstances." These activities spread only in Korea, but I hope that that will be able to punish those haters around the world who hide behind their masks in social media.
Remember the incident in the beginning of their career when hip-hop peers judged them? The main character in this situation was a jerk called B-free. He did it again and then the CEO of BigHit Bang ShiHyuk (a.k.a Bang PD a.k.a Hitman Bang) couldn't tolerate it and came to the CEO of B-free's company. Poor B-free's CEO apologized for B-free. So, what I'm trying to say is that thanks god for Bang PD being so brave and careful.

David was talking about the harmful comments towards some kpop idols the were depressed and under a lot of pressure and committed suicide last year following being targets from hateful netizens. It happens a lot. Shinee's Jonghyun committed suicide 12/18/2017. He was a brilliant singer and such a swell guy. It was a terrible loss. South Korea actually has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. You can watch videos of stars from Korea that have died each year (of all causes but mostly suicide).
I took a Anger Managing class many years ago after I contacted a detective to report someone was abusing my kids. Anger is a neutral feeling. It simply means we feel pain. We are wounded. It isn't bad to feel anger. What is bad is the choices that are made in a result of the anger. Ideally we would choose something that would bring on the healing process which will also resolve the pain. But people that are abusive go in cycles. They thrive on turning their pain around and targeting someone else and controlling them and making them hurt. They believe they are totally justified in their violent attacks and even blame the victim. There is a brief cycle of them playing innocent, bring flowers, making up before bringing out another cycle of attacks. It is a vicious circle.

  • @nolabound3865
    @nolabound3865 Před 4 lety

Think about this. This song is part of a map of the soul concept. So I think the rappers chose to visit the anger side of ourselves from that aspect. And this represents what makes them angry. We need to face all sides of ourselves. And we need to stick up for the folks that are having trouble doing so for themselves.
And these rappers dealt with hella crap to get to where they are, being they had a hip hop thing going. They were criticized and hammered. So I think that hate stemmed from there early on. And RM and Suga write a good bit of lyrics and they write what they feel and see, so it was the path they were given. They took all that hate and bull and produced fire. 🔥

The problem is that even if Army cancels DKDKTV, they're still the only channel providing explanations based off of a korean perspective but still with a lot of deep and thorough research. Plus David is an army even if he's defended Danny who's said some sus things, and ppl also tend to escalate things more than they need to be, and Danny (the other guy) just likes being a troll in general. They're still providing these explanation videos that we watch even if they dont profit much off of them because of copyright...

David is a Army i have seen in comments of his DKDKTV of people being so hurtful towards him . He honestly dislikes Drama well everyone does , i think it hurts him more when immature toxic Army's attack him those kind of Army's is best to ignore . I'm Army i enjoy and like David channel . I really enjoyed your Reaction especially to BTS. There will be toxic Army's coming at you for dumb & stupid reason but let it pass they got nothing better to do . Do you be happy and keep up with your Reaction video's 🙂💜💜

    * Edit: omfg this is so long, enjoy the tea. I just used 'we' instead of 'ARMY' bc I got tired of typing it, it just represents my observings of ARMY on twitter *
DKDKTV said BTS was being pushed down people's throats and BigHit was releasing too much BTS content so then other Kpop acts in the industry couldn't get any attention because of that.
My opinion is on that is that people just genuinely like BTS in every aspect and there is no other artist or kpop group like them, also they work extremely hard to give back and entertain people with a lot of content and music. It's not BTS or ARMYs fault that other acts aren't as popular.
They collaborated with a problematic journalist many times as well that ARMY does not trust at all and basically released a podcast talking down on BTS's successes. Kind of weird since DKDKTV popularity also stems mostly from BTS related content. After all those incidents DKDKTVs numbers have been dropping and I guess there are more haters.
It was mostly the other guy of DKDKTV though, the duo is David and Danny. David is the one you saw in the video and he's a good guy, Danny is controversial though having gone on cursing rants online after ARMY called him out. David then came to apologize for everything, the sweet guy but he was pretty late with that.
I completely forgot about all of this, lmao it took a while for me to recall it. I hope you see why we did what we did. We ain't want nobody stepping on BTS for reasons like that, we are pretty forgiving and we generally don't get offended or mad at criticism. We still have our rotten apples in the fandom, but we don't claim them.
We are petty meme creators though, so if you get on our bad side then your face is everywhere on the internet. One of my favourites is playing tictactoe on boomers foreheads.

When I discovered DKDKTV, I really appreciated their informative videos (like their explain videos) and their updates on what is happening in the Korean media. From their videos, it is clear that Danny and David have different personalities and sometimes even clash with one another on certain topics.
The controversial issue is that sometimes their commentary can be a bit careless. Because they are known for their informative videos, their credibility in understanding aspects of the Kpop industry, and for having an international audience (not just a Korean following), my concern is that viewers and other media sources will take certain things that they say as fact without doing further research.

I see a few people have already recommended Baepsae and Spine Breaker, definitely check those out with the explained videos.
N.O. is another one with a strong message. It's from 2014, but they have always been consistent in calling out what they see as unjust to our generation.
Mic Drop is a mix of a bragging song and a diss track.
I'll explain and go into the rapper's mix tapes some other time, there is a a lot to discuss there lol.
I know you have been going on with the rap line, but an amazing song worth checking out is 00:00 (Zero O'clock). It is only the vocal line, but RM wrote the lyrics for it. Louder Than Bombs is another one. Both of these are from the new album. No MV, you would have to watch the lyric videos, I can link them to you if you need it.
    Loving your channel!👏

About the haters.. or fan wars. One thing that was hard for me to wrap my head around is that Korean kpop fans are really over-the-top compared to US fans. The nearest comparison I can make is with sports. Putting Red Sox and Yankee fans in the same room is probably a mistake. Same goes with certain fandoms. And, if you think about it, the internet is one big room. So, for your sake, never compare kpop groups or you will be lighting a fuse.
Korean fandoms get triggered over what sometimes seems to me to be trivial things. I remember at one award show a certain fandom became outraged at where their kpop group was seated. They felt that another kpop group had 'taken their place.'.... and the war between the different fandoms began...
Fans will also organize to make group protests and all sorts of other activities. And certain companies are rather infamous for igniting their own fandoms to go after another company's groups. Sigh.

I'm not going to put more because ppl have explained more than enough, but because of those suicides, companies are cracking down on internet trolls. Most recently they're suing a 9yr old who accused one of the members of sexually harassing her favorite female kpop idol. BH has made it clear that no concessions will be made because of the erroneous nature of the accusations that were completely unfounded and utterly ridiculous. It's divided the fandom a bit because of the fact that she's a minor, but ppl have also reminded others that a false accusation such as this can ruin a career. There's also been a lot of death threats along with traditional cyberattacks which even shut down BTS concerts/fanmeets before so right now, the company has had it and is taking it seriously.

I’m an example for this. When I became a BTS fan, I posted online why I love them, how they helped me, and shared their songs. One of my family members misunderstood me, and threatened me. She told me that if I post anything about BTS, she’ll tell everyone that I am nothing but a whore. And all because I said on Facebook that Jungkook is as sexy as hell. I guess freedom of speech doesn’t apply to me.
