    Rear temperature blend door actuator replacement:
    • Dodge Grand Caravan - ...
    There is a total of 6 a/c blend door actuators on this dodge minivans if equipped with rear climate controls. All of them are the same Part #: M8679001.
    Removing the passenger temperature blend door actuators is not too hard. You will have to remove four torx T15 screws. Some of them might be a bit hard to access, but definitely doable.

    Replacement part instructions are saying I need a scan tool to determine position to install new part. Is there a default climate control position to align new actuator?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  Před rokem +3

      Well the position of the old one once you remove it will be set depending how you set the passenger side temperature.
      Old school and easiest way to do it is once you remove the old faulty actuator remove the wheel from it. Then insert that wheel into the opening and align the position to match the position of the wheel on new actuator. That's how I always do it on every car, takes 10 seconds. Hope this helps. To do it with a scanner you would need a high end scanner capable of accessing HVAC module

    • @Dolladog
      @Dolladog Před měsícem

      Took out top screw and all inside pieces came apart and it’s a nightmare to get it all lined up again. I would rather keep top screw in which keeps all the plastic rods aligned inside. Now my WHOLE configuration is messed up and I push face button and air blows on my feet etc. and none of the buttons blow air to the correct location because I listened to video saying take top screw out so I can access bottom screw easier. So thanks to this video I now have hot air on passenger side AND all my buttons misconfigured. Thanks

    HELP. I replaced the passenger side actuator on my 2011 Caravan as outlined in this video but, now I am unable to direct the air to the various locations on the instrument panel. For example, I can't direct any air to the windshield defroster option. Did I install the actuator incorrectly? Is there a specific position that it needs to be in when reinstalling it to mechanism?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It is possible the actuator was incorrectly installed or you might have to do a recalibration and re-sync all actuators. Also if you installed aftermarket actuator that could be a problem as well, often they can't get recalibrated

    After watching this repair several times I've thought that maybe by drilling a hole though the side of the inner wall of the glove compartment where the lower screw holding the actuator is located would get this repair done in a hurry.. Once the entire glove compartment is reinstalled you wouldn't see the hole because it would hidden by the door wall..

      It could be the climate control unit. Are you sure you replaced the right blend door actuator? Best way to make sure is to have it scanned and run the diagnostics on it. It will give you the info if the actuator is faulty

      Yes it is

    • @doumgreg
      @doumgreg Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hi, I’m also the owner of a 2014 Caravan. The rear defrost also blinks and my only problem is the passenger side stucked on hot air. There is two actuator under the glove box. I did check the one you are replacing in this video and mine is working fine because it’s activated when I select one of the four positions (windshield, face, feet or both)… So there's only one explanation: hot/cold air actuator is the other one. What do you think of that?

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  Před 5 měsíci

      Yes the other one should be the problem then. Best way to test is to run hvac diagnostics using higher end scanner and it will cycle through all actuators and indicate which one fails. If you replace the actuator make sure to go with oem one as aftermarket often can't get synced and you will still have rear defroster blinking although actuator will work

    WARNING: Anyone following this procedure, be _very_ careful when moving the back plate to which the actuator is attached. I got the actuator reattached to the plate, but when I tried to fit the plate back in, a bunch of parts fell out. My van is heading for the dealership on Wednesday to be reassembled by someone who knows what they're doing.
    Also: Make sure to take the plastic "screws" out of the felt insulating sheet under the glove compartment. I scratched my hand pretty severely on it.
    FYI: The dealer charges three labour units (a little over $500CDN) for the job. I have my fingers crossed in hopes that they won't decide it needs parts, too.
    Before doing these things yourself, make sure you've got all the information and-if things go wrong-you're willing to pay the price either in cash or blood.

    Do not do this ever. You can crawl underneath and with a tiny wrench and T20 hex bit you can get it out. The wrench is flat with a 1/4 hole for the bit. If anything moves and it will your air poitioning will be completely messed up. An earlier comment mentioned drill a hole to get the top screw and that is a pretty awesome idea wish i had thougjt of it.

    Do not do this. The screws are t20, not t15. A box end ratcheting wrench with a short t20 bit will fit the access hole to the left of the glove box. His advice will cause a lot of time and money being spent reassembling the damper door assembly. Notice he didn't put it back together.

    • @QuiteAlright
      @QuiteAlright  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi, you might have to do the hvac recalibration if replacing the actuator didn't fix the problem. It is done with higher end scan tool. Also make sure that you replaced the actuator with the new oem actuator as aftermarket quite often cannot be calibrated
