    ==================================
    Cribbage, or crib, is a card game traditionally for two players, but commonly played with three, four or more, that involves playing and grouping cards in combinations which gain points. Cribbage has several distinctive features: the cribbage board used for score-keeping, the eponymous crib, box, or kitty (in parts of Canada)-a separate hand counting for the dealer-two distinct scoring stages (the play and the show) and a unique scoring system including points for groups of cards that total fifteen. It has been characterized as "Britain's national card game" and the only one legally playable on licensed premises (pubs and clubs) without requiring local authority permission.[1]
    The game has relatively few rules yet yields endless subtleties during play. Tactical play varies, depending on which cards one's opponent has played, how many cards in the remaining deck will help the hand one holds, and what one's position on the board is. A game may be decided by only a few points-or even a single point-and the edge often goes to an experienced player who utilizes strategy, including calculating odds and making decisions based on the relative positions of players on the board. .

    These are great. We had found a game at my parent's house, but the instructions made practically no sense. These first two helped us to be able to play. I'd really love to see the promised third video...

    Continuing my post from your first video...
    2:38 - The spelling of “His Knobs” is actually “His Nobs”, which you got correct at in the text to the right. I usually say this as having “the right Jack”, as I’m sure many other players say the same thing or something similar to avoid the confusion of His Nobs vs. His Heels.
    3:50 - The discard of “useful cards” like a pair, depending on whether you are the dealer or not, should only be done if they do not help your hand. For example, regardless of suit, having something like 2-2-5-10-J-Q in your hand, I would still discard 2-2 to my opponent, dealer or not, as any other discard would not get you the 9 points minimum that you would get from the remaining 4 cards.
    4:04 - Discarding A-K from the hand is OK only if they don’t help the remaining 4 cards, as they would if your 6 cards happen to be something like A-2-4-4-8-K.
    4:14 - I agree with you to never start with a 5 if all 8 cards are still in play, but you having no choice if you having 5-5-5-J and you played the Jack in the first round. For example, if your opponent starts with a 7, you play the Jack to avoid him playing a 3 for 15, he plays Q for 27 and the Go, then you have no choice but to play one of your remaining fives when the count again begins at 0.
    4:52 - Leading with A or 2 contradicts your previous tip of leading with a pair if you have another one of either. You should mention something like “unless you have another of each to lead with a pair”. Holding on to low cards is only good if they add to the score in your hand.
    5:07 - Leading with a 4 isn’t a bad idea but your opponent can still “pair” it. There are many times I lead with a 7 or 8, hoping the other player will get the count to 15, where I can then play a card on either side for a 3-card run.
    5:27 - Beginning players should definitely take their time when counting points. However, if you don’t already know, an interesting variation of the game is the addition of “Muggins”, where the opposing player counts any missed points of the hand. Although it can be frustrating, it certainly helps a beginning player to look for every possible combination of scoring points!
    6:53 - The Jack in the hand is not getting a nob when you have “nobs” in your text, as opposed to scoring 1 point for “His Nobs”, a proper noun.

    Love your cribbage videos - they are so easy to understand!! We've played a couple of rounds and have questions. Once we've reached 31 or are not able to make 31 but still have cards remaining, do we continue to play? If one person has cards left but the other does not do, we continue?? Thank you for your videos!! ❤❤❤❤

    If in the crib hand there is a Jack that matches the play card, is it a nob with 1 point? I play with friends and they say no but when I play with a computer game it does count it.

    On the screen about highest scoring hand, you list four fives “and any Jack”. Should that not be “Jack suited to the starter card,”? (And the Starter has to be one of the fives)

    During WW2 the USS Wahoo was the most successful US submarine during the war. The CO and XO liked to play cribbage to help relieve the stress, and during a patrol in shallow waters the CO deals the XO a perfect 29 and they go on to sink 2 Japanese ships. The following day they are still in shallow waters and the CO who is dealer again deals the XO a 28 and they go on to sink 2 more Japanese ships.

    For a bit of novelty. If you get to the end of playing the cards. When you come to count them, if you have no points, you can just say "19!"
    Why?
    Because 19 is the only number you cannot score in a cribbage hand.
    Fun facts 😅

    The 29 hand has to be where the Jack is in the hand with the 5 cut card suited to the Jack in hand. Otherwise if you have all four 5's in the hand with the Jack as the cut card. You will not reach 29. Same goes for with three 5's and a Jack in the hand but the 5 that was cut isn't suited to the Jack in your hand. You will not reach 29. This wasn't explained thoroughly in the video.

  • @BorderlineBenny
    @BorderlineBenny Před rokem +1

    That's wrong. The jack needs to be in the hand for 29. You can't get one for his knob when it's the deck card. Max is 28.
    Example of 29 is.
    5c 5sp 5h Jack of D
    5d on the deck
