      I’m the same , every morning (even if I’m staying home , cleaning etc) I get up , wash, put on nice clothes, nothing fancy, put on a little makeup( light foundation, mascara, lipstick) even do simple nice hair style and do my chores/ cleaning . It just makes me feel good, confident, etc. and if I need to pop out to run a quick errand or someone unexpectedly comes over- I’m ready. 👍🏻

    So glad I found your channel. Over the past few years, I had fallen into looking frumpy, wearing only jeans and sweatshirts, even to school! I have, over this last year, slowly updated my wardrobe,, bought new clothes (even on a teacher's salary!) and dress up everyday to teach. I want to set an example for my students, as so many of them wear ripped jeans, hoodies, t-shirts, to school. I receive lots of compliments from other teachers on my look and have even been asked where i purchased certain items so they can buy them too! I just can't say enough wonder things about how your channel has made a difference in this part of my life. It has been really tough, teaching, these last few years, and I almost thought about retiring this year at 62, but when I put together my outfit the night before, the next school day, get up, get dressed, I feel confident and purposeful. And excited to teach. Thank you, much love, Sylvia

For the " outside world " , I agree w/ the " going out clothes " . I dare someone to show up at my door unannounced & tell me my stay-at-home outfit is not " nice enough " ! 🤣

    Totally loved this video, Marie-Anne. I recently decided to wear nice things at home when I found myself giving away nice clothes that had gone out of style. What was I saving them for? And how did I look to my family? Like a drudge, that's how. No excuse for " saving " clothes. Life is too short.

    Definitely with Marie-Anne on this one. If I do a dirty job, I simply wear an apron, and always an apron for cooking. Cashmere is really easy to care for and if it is cared for, will last for so long. I frequently wear dresses around the house too, I had three children , have four grandsons and was an infant teacher. Dresses never stopped me playing with them. Marie-Anne has taught me so much over the years, not least of all is that I matter, and wearing nice clothes makes me feel good about myself. I guess it’s each to their own x

    Nearly New Cashmere is a company in the UK where they recycle cashmere -- either refurbish/repair donated items or, if damaged, take them apart and create new garments at much cheaper prices. It's amazing work! You can donate your old cashmere for website credit. I may do that so I could justify getting more cashmere!

    Great video. About eight years ago, I stepped up my style to casual chic and professional for the office. Now I'm retired and still wear cashmere sweaters everyday with black pants or jeans. It gives me a lot of confidence and I'm always ready for visitors or going out. Dresses in the summer. I like wearing trainers and brogues from the French brand, Mephisto. Oh, I almost forgot I love wearing striped shirts and wool sweaters from the French brand St James. The quality is excellent and the fit comfortable. I wash all tops on delicate. While doing housework, I wear an apron designated for that purpose. I have a collection of linen aprons for cooking.

    Thanks for doing this video, Marie-Anne. Another good reason to avoid succumbing to the jogging pant and sweat shirt look is there is far too much expandability in that type of clothing. I think people eat more when they are wearing clothing that is ultra stretchy. With better clothing, there is usually a zipper and button that provides not only an appropriate modesty shield but also a reality check that as adults we should not outgrow our clothes.

    Thank you Marie-Anne, the same thing is about walking with your pets - people are saving nice clothes for “some occasions” when actually they are spending 1/3 of their free time simply walking with their lovely small (and big) companions 🐩 and it is such a big chance for small talk with neighbours and simply nice time out.

    When I first got married I used to spend all day long in pyzzamas. My mum would get mad at me "put on some regular clothes, comb your hair, put on some lipstick, don;t let your husband see you in this pathetic mess". She was absolutely right and I followed her advice. I always take care of my appearance when I go out, but the game changer is how you dress at home, this defines your whole mood and indicates your self respect.

    • @edennis8578
      @edennis8578 Před rokem +14

      It also affects how your husband sees you, metaphorically speaking. He might not even understand why, but you're devaluing yourself in your husband's mind when you dress poorly in front of him. I'm 68 and I've seen a lot of marriages, and it's hard enough to keep that respect over the long term without undermining ourselves.

    • @starrbowie8649
      @starrbowie8649 Před rokem +2

      @@edennis8578 I'm 77 and I remember as a child seeing some of the wives in the neighborhood who would make-up and change into a nice outfit to greet the 9-5 hubby, usually with his favorite cocktail in hand and dinner in the oven. Those moms were often silent, well-behaved alcoholics, and their daughters led the so-called second wave of feminism struggle here in US (the first one being the suffragette fight to vote). Often hubby was cheating, we found as we grew into adulthood. It's always a good idea to look and feel your best, for yourself and to boost the spirits of everyone around you, but a man who puts a big priority on your looking spiffy all the time may be more into his own self-image than he is genuinely interested in a bond with any other human being

    I have been inspired by the house dresses from the 1920s and 1930s. I have made myself one ( and I have seen variations on the theme for purchase online), and I pop it over what I am wearing , do my cleaning and then it goes in the wash or hangs up on a hook in the laundry. Not for everyone but I love them. Watching this channel has really helped me step up my game . For the first time in my life I feel stylish and put together. Thank you so much from Australia

  • @heidig22

    Great video and nice clothes. I can handle those if I'm at home, working in my office, having a coffee, reading the news and so on. Cleaning toilets, bathtubs, washing floors, vacuuming the whole house, washing windows, doing laundry, going for walks with two large dogs and so on asked for something different. I do not like sweatpants, but nice jeans or knit pants work well for me inside the house. A machine washable sweater, a long sleeved t-shirt or a chambray shirt. Wide leg pants that are a little long, pick up the dog hair of the floor. I brush both of my dogs every morning, vaccum or mop the floors, but there always seems some hair left. Here in Canada we do not wear shoes inside the house. Most people walk on socks or wear nice houseshoes, sometimes lightweight sneakers too. Outside it's boots all winter, from about the end of October till the middle of April. If you visit someone, your wear winter boots and take a pair of indoor shoes along. As much as I love my cashmere sweaters, I just can not think of wearing one, or fancy blouse, or anything dry-cleanable to clean bathrooms, bake bread or roasting a chicken. I might change when I'm done with all the chores. Depends on what my plans for the day are.

    I have a few go-to outfits that are comfortable but that I primarily wear around the house and for house cleaning. Not my best pieces as I have 4 cats and I like to reserve the best for work / socializing and I keep them in garment bags. My "home" clothes follow Marie-Anne's principles though: comfortable and sturdy jeans, washable but well fitting tops and in fabrics and colours that don't show cat fur too badly. It can be done haha, with a little trial and error. Pro tip: try not to fall in love with cats in a variety pack of colours.....

    A great reminder to put in an effort with yourself and dressing everyday; even if you are at home. So easy to fall into a patterened trap of comfort and no style! When I am gardening, painting or cleaning house, I wear my "garden & home" clothes but I always make a point to clean and dress up afterwards as it sets my mood for the rest of the day. The only time I don't bother is when I'm ill. 🤒

    Merci, Marie-Anne! Great video! 👏🏼💐 It occurs to me that mindset has much to do with how we dress at home regardless of activities. I used to collect and wear a variety of vintage aprons while I did housework. I also made sure to put on my makeup even if I had no plans to leave the house. That was 20+ years ago when I felt more motivated and inspired to take care of myself. It's important to me to get that motivation back and to celebrate each moment no matter what I'm doing....even if it's laundry and dishes. 😀 Thank you for the gentle nudge!

(Covid twice, RSV for a month, cataract surgery on both eyes.) I was so exhausted most of the year that my nicer clothes, which I LOVE, mind you, were mostly reserved for going out. Now that I'm feeling better I am thrilled to be putting together my French Chic/coastal Grandma outfits again! Woohoo! This is a very important video and so appropriate post-Pandemic when many people are working from home and failing to wear their 'nicer' office clothing. I was fretting over this because I was not allowed as a kid to wear my 'nice' outfits other than to church or school, so I felt guilty doing otherwise. But as I move towards having a capsule wardrobe that has multiple uses, that guilty feeling is melting away. Merci!

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962
    @kimberlyperrotis8962 Před rokem +3

    I wear my best things at home, where I spend most of my time, as well as out in public. If I had to do something really messy, like spraying a shower with bleach (can’t remember ever doing that), I just put on my “painting outfit” for a few minutes (I have a long pants/sleeve winter outfit and a shorts/tee summer outfit, both stored in my garage). For ordinary cooking and cleaning, I just wear a full apron as needed. I want to really enjoy my beautiful wardrobe and it raises my mood to dress well, whether anyone sees me or not. I love wearing high-quality fabrics, especially silk, and I want to enjoy that feeling as much as possible. It keeps up the self-respect of home-based, or homebound, ladies (and gentlemen- don’t skip shaving!) to take a shower and dress nicely every single day. I spent the first two months of lockdown in sweats, as everyone else seemed to, and just hated it. It just isn’t my style at all and made me feel even more depressed. But, I do enjoy my few “luxury athletic” pieces, like my silk and cashmere hoodies and trousers, I just incorporate these more-casual items into otherwise smart outfits, as is very popular here in the US and UK. (I also think they’re here to stay, can be styled well, but sparingly, into a classic wardrobe, but I do object to wearing just all-over gym wear every day). I wear skirts and dresses a lot (personal comfort preference) but haven’t worn sneakers with them, mostly because I’m petite and crave my 2-inch heels, wedges, etc. to make me feel taller!

I will say though that I would not wear clothes that need to be dry cleaned for at home wear but nice jeans and a top are my go tos for cleaning or just being at home. You can look nice even at home. Even in casual clothes. Things always should fit well, be clean and free of stains or rips. As far as getting some things dirty especially in the kitchen that’s what a cute apron is for. Mais oui?

    I love the idea of dressing to stay home. I have always done that. I feel so much better about myself when I dress well regardless of where I am. First of all I dress for myself. I wear scrubs all day long, however, I dress up to just drive to work and then change. And then change again to drive home. Even the Figs scrubs are still scrubs and make you feel like you’re wearing PJ outside. Great style ideas as always Marie-Anne 🌹❤️

    Marie-Anne, you are amazing and so funny. When I was teaching online from home during the pandemic, I always got dressed as if I was going to school. It made me feel more professional and confident. Now that I am retired from teaching, I have invested in restyling my wardrobe, so I want to wear my new styles while I am at home. I still have a hard time wearing my nice trousers when I am watching my three year old grandson. My outfit of choice during those times is a comfortable pair of joggers (purchased from Talbots) and a "chic" top with nice trainers. I still feel polished, yet I don't have to worry about getting soiled.

    I love all your videos. I have house cleaning or stay at home cloths. I try to make them stylish and look good in case somebody should drop by while I’m cleaning my house. However, I will change my clothes to go out of the house. My daughter-in-law teases me because I have stay at home clothes and going out of the house clothes. But the big deal is the bras. I wear size 36 DDD. Yes. Very big. And I wear a sports bra to do housework or just hang out at home. But I put on a structured bra to go out of the house. I would never wear cashmere to do housework. However, you are so correct about having to wash them anyway so why not. I am enlightened. Lol. I love your precious fur babies. ❤

In all the interviews they always asked “ how to you relate and compare to other women’s “ at that time was no CZcams to see how women my age think or do. So now I’m loving the CZcams and love to see how other women do things or thing . I love reading the community comments and I find that we all have so much in common no matter where we live.

I think it's also important for the mind. I also bought myself a pair of black brogues! Great vid as always☺☺☺

    I work from home, but I start as soon as I get out of bed, very early! So I start in my PJs. I am slowly getting my wardrobe up to scratch. People dress so casually where I live, even at work, so it is either casual clothes or outdoor clothes. I am only buying cashmere for the winter and just purchased a lovely cowl neck which looks fab with jeans. (I have big boobs, so a turtleneck was not an option, but the cowl shows some skin while keeping my neck warm) After watching your last video I got rid of all of my leggings and shorts that don't suit. Sometimes we don't make an effort when our body changes so much that we don't know what to do and just try to cover up everything and hide. Your videos have helped me to try new things and make me feel better about what is so hard to change.

I think someone else mentioned projectile vomiting (from babies, not your sweet pooches!) I live alone and do look appropriate when I go to work! Love the info but my home is my refuge! I have hoods on many items as they keep my head warm! It may be a cultural thing ( 🇺🇸 ) and the fact that our Northeast section is going through a record cold 🥶 snap! thank you for another eye-opening video Marianne. I agree with what you say. My problem is that when I am very active at home I know that my cashmere sweaters will develop pilling due to the friction, and I don't want to wear woollen or linen trousers when I am pottering about in the garden or cleaning. But you're right. Every day is an occasion and pilling can be solved with a cashmere comb and wool or linen can be washed - even torn fabric can be carefully mended. So I'll try to do better - with the help of an apron or gardening jacket! xx
