I LOVE wide leg pants, I have worn them regardless of the current fashion trends, as they ebb and flow. I appreciate your posts! I do see that I'll need to invest in some new undies..

    Marie-Anne you are fabulous!! I have been retired for a few years but am getting ready to try to get back in the job market. I have always been professional and well-dressed but when I retired, I also retired all of my suits, by trousers and blazers and almost all of my silk scarves. It is nice to see that some of these things are still fashionable and would work for me. I am now 72 years old and will be competing with young women less than half my age!!! I am taking some of your principals and running with them!!! Thank you so much!

    I was in Paris this last week for a few days before I returned home to the US. I noticed that the local women in the area that I was staying 7th arr. Most where usually dressed in dark trousers or jeans, dark shirts and usually sweaters or blazers. Most usually had scarves. Their shoes were usually white or dark trainers or dark leather shoes. Even the elderly ladies in dresses were dressed similarly. Tourists were easier to spot in torn jeans, overly tight clothes! Oh, and quite a few of the people had on Birkenstocks!

      Lucky you for having been in Paris. It’s one of the places I visit virtually on CZcams. There does seem to be a Paris uniform which you described well. Jeans, trousers, even leggings, in dark colours, always well put together with something like a scarf to complement the look. Now that tourists are back it’s east to spot them although the ones from Germany and other E.U. countries look nice too.

    Thank you for this! My tummy looks about 5 months pregnant. (and I'm not exaggerating, nor am I actually pregnant! lol). So my belly is a lot larger than yours. Much larger. I simply can't tuck in a blouse, because from the side, it exposes the belly and what looks like a half watermelon under my clothes. I have found that wearing all black or all navy blue as a base, then popping a bright or saturated color blazer on top is the most successful at not drawing attention to the belly. I wear sheath dresses often, with bright blazers on top. But when wearing jeans (which I do almost any time I'm not working) -- I have to leave the shirts untucked. I try to find loose but not too baggy shirts that end just below the largest part of my belly. Seems to help. I'm also trying to get in better shape but at the same time, I accept and love my body right now and want to dress as well as I can. :)
    Merci, Marie-Anne!

  • @kimberlyperrotis8962
    @kimberlyperrotis8962 Před 2 lety +18

    Great advice. I agree, covering a rounded tummy, “big” hips, etc. with long tops is a mistake, it’s much better to tuck tops in or wear short ones that end just at a high waistband. Long tunic tops make the legs look stumpy and the whole torso square and bulky. We women have better shapes than we think and should wear gently fitted, not tight or baggy, clothing to show them off. I never shop at those “mature” brands for that reason, everything is designed to just cover the body like a sack. The most aging look ever: capri pants, tunic top and chunky, sporty sandals! Might as well just give up and wear a muumuu rather than wear that!

      I agree.
      I do wear my beloved Tevas with jeans and dresses, but have stopped wearing capris to the gym. I think capri length leggings are OK under skirts and dresses especially on windy days. I guess they’d be classed as underwear in this case.
      What’s more, some brands have frustratingly long lengths that end up looking like tunics on short people. Their t-shirts come down to your upper thighs. I just bought two “cropped” tank tops that fall below my bellybutton and I’m size XS/S with a long torso. I guess this is because women are getting taller.

      @@polishtheday 😉 Like to wear nude breathable bike shorts (vs stifling shapewear) under dresses & skirts. Doesn't matter if it's a short pencil, long straight, or flirty style〰️it acts as modesty undergarment. It also helps reduce sweating💧 between legs in high 🥵 heat ♨️.
      🤫 Cannot do a FULL tuck. Typically, trying to conceal a super cinched waist on my bottom. The French tuck or knotted top is a game changer. It took some getting used to, but I find it far more flattering than the aging loose tunic top. The longer top only emphasizes torso length while it seriously showcases shorter looking legs🤣.

    Bonjour Marie-Anne,
    I've been very slim all my life (although I have a big bust) and the menopausal tummy really took me by surprise. I keep working at it, following the French way of eating you espouse and it does help. I used to wear tunic tops and several years ago decided they were just not working for me. I began to wear more tailored shirts (hard to find for a large bust) and more wovens than knits. The look is sharper and better. This video about tucking things in, and other style tricks is so useful and I'll be incorporating these into my daily style. In a previous video comment, I mentioned the difficulty of finding blazers and such - I'm happy to report that I found a white linen blazer that I absolutely LOVE. I just arrived home from my teaching job and I'm wearing the blazer with jeans and a navy and white striped t-shirt, a belt and pale gold ballet flats. The outfit makes me feel stylish and polished. Many thanks, Marie-Anne!

      Lorrie, I have the same issue. It is so hard to buy buttoned shirts because they never fit in the bust area. The sad part is, they can be so slimming. 😢

    • @ladybug5859
      @ladybug5859 Před 2 lety

      Lorrie, I too was taken aback by the menopausal tummy and it's really I think impossible to eliminate completely unless you're a movie star, as they seem to be able to!😉 Unlike you though, my tunics are working marvelously because they curve over my 36 triple D bus and nip in at the waist which used to be 22 to 24 and now is-- if I'm lucky 34 to 35 --and then they curve over the tummy so that you don't even see it and the love handles as well are camouflaged. I like the tunics to hit just where the hip would be --7 inches down from the waist-- and I find it very modest and it still allows me to show my buttocks which is used to be the biggest part of me but it is now the smallest part of me, and then my thighs thank God r small because my hips were small at 34 inches until mid life. I actually was like Marilyn --same height & weight- but smaller hips & larger bust💄😉 YOUR outfit though-- with the Blazer-- sounds wonderful and I'm going to go through my wardrobe cuz I used to have several white linen blasers that no longer fit 😔so maybe I'll have to go buy one. I'm a teacher too and it's important to look professional and modest while being stylish and I think we can do it!😊 THANK YOU for your description of a beautiful outfit☺

    As a petite with quite a big tummy and short torso, high waisted trousers make me look wider and pregnant. I prefer mid rise with my top slightly tucked in. Fit and flare, and shirt dresses are life savers 😁

      Petite with a long torso here. I’m getting rid of my mid-rise, and some that are called “high rise” but come mid-rise on me, pants. I also find them uncomfortable. I’ve been wearing them because that’s all that was available in stores at the time. I’m now stocking up on high rise. This is a revelation that came somewhat late in my life. I never thought about rise until I did. Rise is important if you want a good fit yet some don’t even know their measurements in that area. And if you have a short torso, count yourself lucky because you likely have relatively long legs for your height.

    These tricks work even for those without a big tummy. For example, wearing a long scarf, is a no-no for those who are smaller on top and need some bulk there and belts highlight the waist and give those who have a rectangular figure a more hourglass shape. Flat tummy? Use some of these tricks in reverse. Hopefully this video will also encourage some who have a big tummy to try wide leg pants and dresses like the first one you showed. I know people who avoid them because they think it will make them look awful when, in fact, the reverse is true. Experiment. Try shapes and outfits you never wear. Then have a look in the mirror or get someone else’s opinion and you may be surprised. And keep watching videos like these because even if you think you know all the tricks because you just might learn something new.

    All wonderful suggestions. I would love a video on what to do when you're losing weight and your still transitioning but nothing fits. I cannot afford an in-between wardrobe.

    I've developed some nibbly habits and my mid section shows this 🙈 great tip on wide legged trousers 💗 I'm wearing old jeans with straight leg that feel like a skinny leg and they are really making me look very middle aged. Great tips Marie-Anne thank you 🌼🌸🌼
