Not in your control I know, Marie-Anne, but I would like to see more models over 50 with a tummy. Most plus-size models still have flat stomachs, and they have young, firm skin because they're 20-somethings. We ladies of a certain age need to be represented in a different category that's not necessarily plus sized but can't wear the things we used to. A lot of us are in a limbo land of not skinny, not fat. The midsection is a minefield!
I so agree! Also, plus-sized models always have tiny waists and big hips, but we all thicken around the waist in middle-age, even without weight gain. My waist is 4 inches bigger at age 64, although my weight is exactly the same, 125 lbs., as on my wedding day 40 years ago and my narrow hips are no bigger. I can’t find any trousers or jeans that fit. Those young models, especially the fit models they use for sizing and pattern-making clothes, have small, firm middles that we don’t have, so the clothes never fit well. I used to be teased about my concave tummy, that it “stuck in instead of out”, but no longer! I don’t know a single 50-year old with a flat tummy, female or male, it just doesn’t work that way. Our society has to adjust its expectations, no one has a 16-year old body, however thin and fit they might be, at age 50 or 60. Or firm, unwrinkled arms, why expect that for 60-year olds?🙂
@@kimberlyperrotis8962 merci, je suis exactement comme vous ! 125 lbs mais un ventre rebondi ( pas d’enfants) mais la ménopause !!!!,🙄
Yes, its the dreaded apple shape!
Bonjour Patricia thank you for accepting that the selection of models is not in my control 🙏 I wish there were a greater selection of plus size models and of various shapes. It took 3 full days for us to find all the examples in this video 🙁
Shepherds fashions in Ottawa has a daily fashion show. They cater to the mature woman with all of their size range but there are a couple of larger petite women in the mix. They also have videos on dressing the apple shape. They sell mainly basics and then style them with accessories. It would be useful to have the names of plus size stores that aren’t big box. I would rather have a small good quality collection. Sympli is a Canadian company that sells basics in plus size as well as regular sizing.
I just donated and gave away most of my unflattering clothes. Today I wore a long khaki shirt dress with a wide black belt, a black and khaki shoes , and pearls. It looked so nice 😊
👏 well done Lisa - decluttering really helps your style 😃
@@lisalawloryeomans1096 Keeping unflattering clothes is like punishing ourselves for not being a certain way. Good on you for rejecting that!!
And your outfit sounds so nice!
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Absolutely love the striped shirt you are wearing; It was not in the description box. Can you share where it is from please?
Good girl
I just celebrated my one year anniversary of walking 1 hour a day, every single day for a year. I went from doing absolutely nothing to loving my daily walks. I do it at gym on treadmill. I lost about 10ths, now at 110lbs. I can’t recommend it highly enough to everyone! I feel great!
Well done Marie 👏 it just shows that our health is in our own hands it just takes that effort 👍
I didn't think I'd ever see a French woman encouraging excess body weight.
I encourage a healthy body with a healthy mind and a healthy attitude. Loving yourself for who you are allows you to become who you want to be for the right reasons and much easier
You say you lost about 10ths. What does that mean?
Thin sandal straps are not kind to swollen feet. Thick straps may not be so flattering but they are more comfortable so I will continue to wear them. A nude sandal is more flattering than a dark one.
I know. You will have to pry my Birkenstocks from my cold dead hands!
THANK YOU Marie-Anne!!! I was small until I began going through "the change", and put on 60 pounds in under a year while I was eating very healthy AND exercising. And I can't lose it. I have not given up but I'm at a loss. And with all the fat-shaming the attitude is "you want to look good, lose weight". I get the impression that the reason plus size clothing is so abysmal is to punish us and Shame us into losing weight. We ladies are well-aware; painfully aware of our shortcomings but we still want to look nice. I appreciate you including us in your videos.
One problem with clothes, across the board is that the manufacturers and designers don't really know how to tailor or cut designs and fabrics in ways that are flattering. I still had that issue when I was much thinner. I have vintage clothes... most of them I can no longer wear, but the clothes from the 40s and 50s were so well tailored and designed. And the details were amazing. A lot of the outfits I had were department store brands. Maybe from their couture collections but not designer. Now you can spend a fortune and they are still not tailored well.
I so appreciate the time you take to do these terrific videos. Thank you.
Find a doctor who understands bio-identical hormone replacement. It will turn your life (and weight) around.
Plus sized clothes are DIRE. The only ones that aren't are generally aimed at the under-30 age range.
You are very welcome Liz - the place to start is from loving yourself as you are - then if you wish to change make small changes to diet, exercise whatever you can do to start moving things in the direction you want 🙏
There are plus-size stores that have flattering clothing that fit. Not all of sell frumpy lose clothing.
@@alcogito8287 thank you! I will do that!
Great video. Also the "column of color" technique works wonders (white dress with adark cardigan over it makes a white vertical line.
A way i cheat the neckline when i want a v-neck is to wear a long necklace. It makes a long V. Edited to add: long necklace with a large/heavy pendant.
Yes, i agree on your tips. What most influencers forget is, that if you are petite, you have to use these tips aswell, atleast if you have a bust.
Exactly right Dortek - especially the adding height 👍
Matte instead of shiny fabrics is brilliant. All your tips are excellent. Thank you!
😘
Right! Those younger women flitting around in long satin skirts, with a casual T, or chunky sweater, and Adidas Sambas... So cute! But not for me. But I made one exception as to a shinier fabric, and got a black leather moto jacket last fall.
“Crepe? No, crepe.” Very good Anne-Marie.🤗
Thank you for the ‘reaffirming’ tips.

Your English is AMAZING (you speak better English than a lot of English people) but it is so charming when you slip up on a word - budgies!!!!

Excellent tips, Marie-Anne. Love the fact that plus sized models are featured. Always love your humour. Sharing this. Merci 💜

Bonjour Marie-Anne,
It's lovely to be here again after almost a month away. We were in The Netherlands touring on our own before taking a cruise around Iceland. There was lots of opportunity on the cruise to people-watch. Lovely women from all over the world - Europe, Australia, Canada, the USA. I analyzed a lot of outfits with your lessons; what worked, what didn't work, and how to improve. I would have loved to say to so many women - you have a waist, let's see it! And after spending nearly 24 hours in transit on the way home, airports were also places to people-watch. Thank you for your videos and your e-courses, Marie-Anne. With your help, I felt mostly chic for the trip. Black linen trousers, a black t-shirt, and a medium-blue linen-cotton blazer comprised my travel outfit, and I was complimented on it. Mille mercis encore, Marie-Anne!
I am glad you had such an enjoyable and productive trip Lorrie 😃 people watching is a great way to earn about style 👍
I know you've covered undergarments many times, but I always appreciate the reminder! Truly, well fitting bras are a must. ❤️❤️❤️
Good advice bears repeating Mrs M 😃
Dear Marie-Anne, thank you for this video full of tips that until now have never been so comprehensive - it is much appreciated.

Budgies 😆 From now on, I'll call them Budgies, not bulges! Thanks for another great video, Marie-Anne!

Regarding thicker fabrics adding bulk, I always feel that my corduroy slacks add a few pounds visually. Great video!
Especially the thicker corduroy Wisteria 👍
Your glowing makeup is lovely
Marie-Anne thank you so much for these great tips. You are my favorite fashion expert, and I so appreciate all of your advice. Being a plus sized lady I need all the help I can get with my wardrobe. You are a lovely beautiful down to earth lady. Thanks again! 💜
You are very welcome Rosie - I am very happy to help 😘
Thank you. I am using these tips and I have been told if I lost some weight.

I just enjoyed that video so much! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it Kim 😃
Great video for all older women, even those like me who aren't "plus size" (I wear a medium, 8-10), but have the normal sags and bulges of age. I'm 63, and I've always been fairly slender (sometimes downright skinny)... but about 5 yrs ago I started wearing "mild" shapewear to smooth out my back. Adopted nude underwear (or black) MANY years ago!
I am glad you found it useful Andria 😃
Great advice!
I love your videos. A big hug from Colombia ❤❤❤
🤗
Thank you for your wonderful tips.
😘
Great logical information….thank you.
Another great video Marie-Anne. Forgive me but I can't remember/can't find which video it was that you briefly mentioned about some little kind of device that you can use to gather or cinch your top in at the waist on one side - perhaps it was some kind of elastic. Could you possibly provide the name or a link? Merci!
It was a hairband or elastic band 😃
Hello Marie-Anne, I loved the techniques you shared, even though I'm in my 30s, I will definitely apply them to upgrade my style. Cariños desde Chile❤
They are style tips for every age Karen 😃 I always add 'over 50' as that is my main demographic 😃
Hi do you know of a shapewear brand that flattens without too much constriction? I suffer fron gastric reflux and constriction makes my symptoms worse. or should i buy a larger size shapewear? Thx
Bonjour Rya all shapewear will constrict to some extent - it may be a question of finding the right balance between style and comfort x
Really liked the gray pleated dress with I think its called a princess style. I've seen heavy women who dressed and looked lovely. It's really not the weight I don't think but how you view yourself. Be beautiful inside and it usually shines through.
Exactly right AP👏
Love your videos and the many helpful suggestions I get from you. I taught English language to French students for 15 years and I can say you are one of those who have really strong French accent, which I like a lot, since your language is so beautiful and romantic !
Merci Blue Mountain, most French people think I am English as they say my English accent is so strong 😃

You are very welcome Diane x
Useful, thank you.🤔😊
Your aversion to Birkenstocks cracks me up!!!😂

thank u for that tips!

I am curious about how wearing white sneakers can help us look modern, but not necessarily elongate as they are often a contrasting colour to the main outfit and would cut off any lengthening . Otherwise as always Marie -Anne great ideas here thank you!
White sneakers are a more modern shoe and hence give a modern look to an outfit. Yes they generally contrast in colour to the pant and could be said to be 'leg shortening' but there are other leg lengthening techniques you can use to counteract this if required watch here czcams.com/video/bUc4w0_vhZ4/video.html
Thank you Marie-Anne you’re a wealth of knowledge 🙂
My budgie refused to wear matt black little suit, what to do Marie-Anne? On a serious note, I have accepted what you have said and overhauled my wardrobe and donated to charity.
A good decluttering will help your style like nothing else Mysha 😃
Yeah.
I love this page.

Crepe! I loved it 👍😂❤

You look great !! 🎉

Thanks for sharing! What do you think about using Normotim for weight loss?
I understand it is a dietary supplement that has some claims around it for mood alteration which may have some claimed benefit for food dependancies or food behaviours Naomi. I prefer a more natural approach to food concentrating on good quality food, carefully prepared 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeurThanks for your answer 🙏 It's just I read that Normotim helps to stay on diet, improves mood, and boosts weight loss. Do you think combining natural food choices with a supplement like Normotim for added support is a good idea?
BRILLANT VIDÉO❤️❤️❤️
Hello Marianne I have done the same as Lisa decluttered and donated clothes thar are to big some brand new with labels i have bought new clothes handbags and im looking at shoes then im done for a while nice video xx
Decluttering is a great way to improve your style Jacqui 😃 remember to hold out for the Wow when looking for replacements 😘
@MarieAnneLecoeur I definately did its a Wow or No xx
I rewatched your video "Dress Better! Feel Better! | COLLAB WITH MICHELE PAIVA" video. I got the feeling that you became emotional during parts of the video. Did you really feel emotional during parts of the video or did I misinterpret that?💜💜💜
Bonjour Menar, I do get emotional when I discuss the topic of style helping women to feel better. I get so many emails and messages saying that my advice has helped women at and through difficult times that these feelings are never far from the surface 🙏
V.Good advice.
Plus-sized fashion offerings are just awful, I feel bad for anyone who needs to shop in this size range. It’s almost all black or huge-print, polyester knit fabrics, horrible. That’s one reason, besides my health, that I strive to keep my weight within the normal range; plus-size women just don’t have any decent clothing choices. When are brands going to get the message? The average US woman is now plus-sized, specifically a size 16 US/20UK and only 5’4”/164 cm tall. Many women, of course are much, much bigger, what can they possibly wear? When I was a US size 12, I decided to lose the excess weight, it was hard enough to find clothes I liked at that size, especially in non-US brands. Everyone needs stylish, natural-fiber clothing in all color and pattern options, not just “slimming black”. I do want to encourage all women who want to lose weight for whatever reasons: it’s difficult, but it’s not impossible, just keep trying to make small improvements towards a healthier lifestyle and don’t be discouraged! I’m 64 and lost 50 lbs. over a few years with a combination of daily walks and the elimination of sugar and simple carbs. (grains and root veggies, I still eat fruit) from my diet. You will live longer, feel better and have much more fun getting dressed, it’s well worth it🙂
I agree so much with you. Overweight is not healthy and leads to much higher incidences of diabetes, heart decease and cancer. While is it true that our shape does change with age, child-bearing and menopause, it is not responsible to let ourselves get overweight. Marie-Anne's tips are very useful for disguising the thickening waistline even on people who are careful to maintain normal weight.
Indeed so Kimberly 😘
Sigh. I think most of us know that about health and normal weight and how to achieve it under optimal conditions. However, a proportion of people gain weight with medications or through certain health conditions like thyroid or gut abnormalities or being unableto exercise. You might find a way to shed that weight or you may not. Meantime, you want to dress in a flattering way and would prefer not to be deemed greedy or lazy. I do not think it is helpful to tell people it is not responsible to gain weight, @alcogito8287. It was probably irresponsible of my ancestors to mix their DNA. Thank you for a non judgemental video, @Marianne.
Marie-Anne do you have a link to the blouse you are wearing?
Bonjour Gwen - the blouse if from COS sadly it is no longer available (winter collection) but I will see what I can do 😘
So I love this but what would be a good wedding guest or mother of bride dress for a plus size woman?
I have done several videos for my Lovely Larger Ladies Jen - I hope you will watch them and get some ideas 😘
I love my birkenstocks !
One more tip! Too small clothes makes you look way bigger!
Always keep an eye on proportion Anne 👍
I love ruching. I make my own sometimes
Sooo true v necks or scoop slimming
🎉 4:59
My tip :When wearing shiny thin fabric dress ir skirt that is lined wear another thicker skirt underneath and a slip strappy dress under the real garment. It will not show the bulges too much and is less clingy.
I have a question about shapewear. Is it true that what is pressed & flattened by the shapewear, sticks out elsewhere?
Not necessarily Carolina - it can do especially if the shape wear ends around the hips for example creating those dreaded muffin tops
In cold weather wear a layer of silk thermal wear. Then you don’t have to wear bulky outerwear.
👏
Makeup tip/suggestion, do not put lipstick on outline the all the way to the sides of your lips.
Hi Marie anne love ruching fab way of disguising the weight I love budgies one called sparkey green bird
🦜
It can get quite cold where I am to save bulk in clothing I use the thermal singlets/ tops. I find I can then dress more fashionably and not feel like the Michelin man for extended period of time. It also helps with storage as I don’t have as many bulky clothes to store
Many thin layers is better than fewer bulky layers 👍
Marie-Anne, how is your farm going?
It is going well Brydeli 😃 we keep hoping to get back to the other channel but time goes by so quickly and this video took 3 days to gather all the images - we never have enough time 🙁
I really love your videos, but when you spoke against Birkenstock you broke my heart a little bit😅
If you still have a waist, it should definitely be your best feature. I am broad in the beam with a developing stomach and HUGE arse. All the dresses I tried on over the past weekend made me want to go inside and never leave the house. In the end, I settled for an oversized shirt to cover the arse, worn with jeans and a short jacket. The truth, however, is that I should shed some kilos and I am going to addres this by changing my eating habits - be gone sugar, fats and too much pasta.
Best of luck on your weight loss journey Victoria 🙏
Hello Marie-Anne
👋
At 8:30 I understood "tummy fattening" in the first second😃
That's my French accent again Nickel 🤣
As you say, the fashion industry has a lot to answer for. You can recommend endlessly but if we can't find the product, it's useless!
I give links to the items I mention or similar Tracy. But when hunting for similar styles yourself - yes - and there in lies the issue. You must, must, must resist the temptation to just buy something that is okay - you must hold out for the Wow! Nothing will help your style more than a wardrobe full of Wows not woes! 😘
Please do a video on how to wear accessories with a fuller figure!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I will see what I can do - there are some principles in some of my videos for plus size ladies 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeuryes thank you! Scarves, necklaces, bangles etc! ❤
where is your shirt from?
It is by COS 😃
Come for the advice; stay for the Budgies!
Honestly, I had to watch again.😂
😃🦜
All of these are excellent suggestions! They are so true. As I organize my closet, I will edit and add to my wardrobe whilst I wait for husband to create those fat sucking leeches. You are a beautiful lady; thank you for sharing with us.❤❤❤
Hi Marie Anne. Bonjour 😊😊
👋
Crepes! 😂😂
Please inform the manufacturers and designers of plus sized clothing that vertical stripes are slimming.
They make most shirts/t-shirts with horizontal stripes and you have no option but to buy it.😢😢
I am doing my best Nicolette 😃
What if you’re over 50 and have an Apple shape with a tummy?
The advice holds good
The shiny fabrics she mentions are not shiny. It depends on how the fabric was treated/dyed. The only exception is satin. That can be a little tricky to wear.
Horizontal stripes can be worn so long as the blouse is fitted. If a dress has horizontal stripes, do not wear it because that will make you look wider.
Vertical lines. OK.
But with an exception : the " marinière" which is part of a classic outfit?what do you think about the" marinière".
Though overweight , I love it!????l 🔧
Even horizontal stripes can be okay for larger ladies when styled appropriately Anne Marie 🤫 put something over like an open jacket or open shirt to create a thinner band of the printed top underneath. The contrast between the top layer (jacket/shirt) and the stripes creates a thinner central band which acts like an illusion dress👍 As for Marinières - I love them 😃 but of course ... I am French 👍
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Thank you...I am French too.
I live in the south of France...but my husband is from Brittany!!

All good-love the bird joke-but I must take exception to the pointy toe shoes. Come on. No one feels good if their feet hurt. Why not a nice flat and/or round toe.
