    I like to use Citristrip and place plastic wrap on. Works amazingly and then I go over with mineral spirits. Far less sanding. Your project tired out great. Can’t wait to try spray paint on a small dresser I have.

    Hi just subscribed yesterday...so forgive me if you already learned or heard of these tricks I want to share....first one I saw one comment about the trick of using clear wax as an eraser for moving dry dark wax....just want to add ...yes clear wax first before the dark wax ...in smaller areas ...right after you clear wax....then if you apply too much you can always just take clear wax and use as eraser and or to move wax easier......second trick is to use stripper more liberally and if you have time...cover with Saran Wrap ....I have not personally tried this but have seen others leave over night and easily remove stripper and stain the next day.....so definitely under that you are good to go. Thought I would share bc I have already learned some great tips from you! Love the piece....thanks for sharing 😊kim

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  Před 3 lety

      You do not need to chemical strip, but sometimes it's a good idea when removing finish off thin veneer. You can sand without stripping, but when you strip you should sand with 180-220 grit to get directly down to a clean fresh layer of wood/veneer.

    Excellent video. Question: I want a spray paint an ikea table, can I paint it in my small garage without fear of making everything around blue? I mean is it a good idea to spray laint indoors?

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you so much for watching! I recommend an area that is well ventilated. And if it isn't ventilated well you need to wear a proper NIOSH mask to prevent any damages. I paint in my garage with the door opened up a couple of feet wearing a mask.
      This spray does leave a blue dust around the area sprayed so placing a plastic drop cloth will prevent blue everywhere.
      And you mention IKEA, if the furniture is not real wood (laminate) you should consider priming with Bin or Kilz primer. I am currently painting a laminate piece and the video will be out today or tomorrow.

    those handles look like brass - you could have saved youself a bunch of time just using some elbow grease and brasso - no need to scratch them up with sandpaper and spraypaint that will turn green in a few years LOL for real though if you have brass just polish it - i have a 200 year old bureau and with some use and maintainence the brass looks brand new. Vs I have a 60s dresser I thought i'd spruced up using gold paint and everything went dull green in 5 years. finished thing looks great tho

  • @Jeff-cr6ur
    @Jeff-cr6ur Před 3 lety

    wasn't the whole point of inventing chalk paint so that you do not have to sand, prep, varnish/strip the wood etc? I literally brush on chalk paint over any surface and apply the wax.

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  Před 3 lety

      I have no idea why they invented chalk paint, but probably for those such reasons. However, here I strip the old finish only on the places I am staining the surface. Stripping and sanding these areas work best when staining.
      For chalk paint, they say you don't have to sand, but sanding any surface before painting is highly recommended for a more durable paint job. Priming is also recommended when painting furniture for better adherence.
