    Piece looks great! I love MCM furniture and watching before and afters.
    To make life easier for yourself next time - try anything other than Behr. Tried to paint trim and was planning to use on cabinets several years ago, worst paint I've ever used in my life!
    Also, I only use artist quality brushes for furniture and cabinets. The kind with bright white bristles - very inexpensive at Hobby Lobby. Contractor grade brushes usually have such thick bristles every stroke shows. First time I used artist grade- the paint went on so smoothly, not one stroke showed. The actual woodgrain was still visible. Everyone thought I had sprayed the paint on - and I never even touched the paint with sandpaper.

    I remember mid century so well, my Era.
    A Sterling job, love it!
    I bought an oak unit with separate upper, including fold down 'cocktail cabinet' for £20. Taken off drop down door and side doors. I don't like dense carving on lower cabinet side door or 4 drawers, flipping them inside out. Painting it black.
    Have a couple of rolls of small print wallpaper from late 60's or might paint back of upper cabinet. Not sure.
    Curtains are geometric, quite retro, background ivory, pattern teal, lime, orange, suggestion would be welcome.
    Got no furniture from divorce, by chance bought almost identical plain teak table and chairs (I bought original table 1/1970, original table ended up in my garage 4 years ago, given to son and his fiance, who had no had it's mine! UK maker, G Plan.) intend to sand top as marked, might do legs slate, chair legs too, seats, one of colours from Curtains?
    I would love if you could give a suggestion of colour for chairs. Only other chair in living room is wingback in light terracotta.
    Cat scratched my leather chairs too badly to save.
    As she's over 20...1 will do at the moment.

    It came out really really nice! I LOVE the color scheme. I’ve seen in other videos where it really isn’t necessary to prime over laminate, because oils and so forth don’t really pull through laminate. Plus it reduces the “thick” painted look. Just an FYI for future laminate projects. You really did an amazing job on this one though. I’m used to using Chalk paint. It’s thicker than a regular satin paint. I’m going to try just using regular paint for my next few projects. Thanks fir sharing your videos! I really enjoy watching you. 😁👍🏻

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  Před 3 lety +6

      highly recommend a primer for laminate to adhere better to the surface. I would use BIN shellac, it is not to prevent bleeds but more so to hold on and not peel off. Paint is more likely to come off if directly applied to the laminate. Thanks for watching!

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  Před 3 lety

      Yes, you can go from beige to white. Having a good primer like BIN Shellac or Spray on Rustoleum primer is a good start so you don't see through the paint.
      Warped drawers may need some fixing, perhaps removing the warped pieces and adding new wood or veneer sheets and stapling/nailing it back on. Not 100% sure of your issue but I typically avoid such issues because they take a lot of time meaning lower ROI.

    I really need your help. I tried latex paint over a little dresser, and the laminate curling cracks are showing through the paint causing it to look separated. I know I know I know I should have used a shellac primer or something, Do you think that would stop it from happening when I repaint? FYI I did sand the piece and also cleaned it with TSP before I did all this. It's the laminate that's the problem and the wood stain

    • @FurnitureFlippa
      @FurnitureFlippa  Před 2 lety

      Hmm, I would use a furniture paint for this project like Fusion Mineral Paint or a chalk paint. Your challenge will be removing as much of the old paint as possible, sand it as smooth as possible, trying to remove as much latex paint as you can. Id start with a low grit sandpaper then like a 400 to finish it off. Whether it peels off or however, try to remove the old paint as best as possible.
      Prime with Bin Shellac, 2 coats just to make sure you are covering over the old stuff. Lightly sand with 220 grit sanding sponge and now you can paint.
      Protect it with water-based poly or wax, your choice. Hopefully this helps!

    Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included czcams.com/users/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

    • @michellepeters6532
      @michellepeters6532 Před 3 lety

      It just depends on the piece you’re doing. If there isn’t any bleed through of oils (white primer will turn yellow with oil bleed through) then one coat is sufficient and you can move ahead with painting. Primer doesn’t really have to be perfect by any means. Hope this helps!
