I don't care what anyone says...I rode my motorcycle for over 10 years but started developing arthritis in my ankles, so I moved down to scooters because they were a lighter weight and easier on my ankles. This machine looks like something I could ride that's faster and more powerful but not have to worry about putting stress on my ankles. I like it.

I too have a problem with my feet and legs and would like to try this three wheeler after riding a scooter. The problem is that the brake is foot operated and is not suited to my condition. Why no hand operated brake like on a scooter? It has no gears to operate after all. Would be a simple matter to have all controls on the handlebar. Serious oversight and design shortcoming in my view. Eliminates everyone with foot and leg disabilities.

Thank you@@pugpugger1788 for your encouraging response. A handbrake conversion would make sense and make this practical, fun and relatively safe trike available for many more partially disabled persons who still like to ride. Cannot understand why they did not think of this before.

I demo rode the 900cc version earlier today. It was really fun, and pretty quick. It rode smooth and was very stable, even on our pot hole plagued roads. The traction control system worked well when one wheel broke traction. It's possible to get one wheel off the ground a bit in a very tight turn, but it still felt really stable. The brakes worked great but to be honest, most of the time I just let off the throttle and it slowed to a stop with minimal use of the brakes. It does feel a bit odd at first when I was looking for the front brake and clutch levers. Lol
Not sure that it's what I'm looking for, but was definitely fun to ride.

I had the opportunity to ride one of these, the 900 black on black at the dealership I work at. I loved it, I have a hard time relating it to a motorcycle, granted I’m a dual sport rider, but more like a snowmobile with wheels. It truly felt like a futuristic form of transportation, seeing as even in a light snow( flurries, no accumulation) it was fine. It felt like something you’d see in the movie IRobot

    • @robertfox4524
      @robertfox4524 Před 5 lety

I think a snowmobile with wheels is probably the best comparison. It isn't a bike. It handles totally different. You either like it or you don't. I like it. I like not worrying about gravel roads, downhill parking, or forgetting to put a foot down at a stop when you're exhausted from riding all day. Light snow??? Sounds like a much longer riding season than one would normally get here in the midwest. "Haters gonna hate, and ain'ters gonna ain't"

I rode one yesterday and honestly for the money that’s a lot of bike and technology it’s fast it’s easy to get comfortable ergonomically and confidence wise and ride it like you stole it! The two things I could beat it up for are the constant velocity transmission it works fine and you never feel it shifting but at some speeds it sounds like the engine is working way to hard for just cruising. And then there’s the number one problem with these and Spyders .... They don’t lean! Honda’s looked at it. Yamaha has built they’re answer and Can Am built a great machine and if it could have leaned? Well I’ll tell you the one problem no one speaks of.. LOWER BACK SUPPORT! You start riding this machine on back twisty roads and giving this thing a workout and your lower back is going to show you why you should lean! It’s fighting to hold up your body in turns plane and simple! But I love these machines nimble fast affordable !

Dude this thing is the best 3 wheeled motor vehicle ever created I know that and I've not even ridden it yet. Nor have I tried out any other 3 wheeled contraptions.
      How do I know?
Numbers don't lie. MotoVloggers typically veer towards the truth as well. Typically.
Which numbers? Well for 1 there's the tire width: very skinny (i'll comment the exact specs in a minute) Skinny tires heat up a lot faster than wider tires and when introduced to wet, icy or otherwise slimy surfaces are a hell of a lot more predictable and communicative. Furthermore: There has never been a road legal 3 wheeled vehicle that was regarded by the majority of it's target audience as a very desirable product (until this, - quick side note - literally every vlogger, journalist or motorcycle lover that has done a 1st ride on the new Ryker has had pretty much exclusively positive things to say, ranging from 'It's a lot of fun and inspires confidence' to raving about its usability practicality and exhilarating riding characteristics.)
Any who, skinny tires also happened to be inherently less capable of handling as many G's as wider tires of the same tread life and brand.
Which brings us back to this being the FIRST widely praised road legal mass produced 3 wheeled vehicle.. As a population of consumers we may have an idea about what riding a 3 wheeled vehicle is about based on inferences, experience and theory. But have they been a mainstay on public roads for over a century like 2 and 4 wheeled vehicles? Meaning most everyone of age has driven one atleast an average of 50k miles in their life so far and we share the road with them regularly, our friends own them etc?
      Nope!
So why are lower limits better for this new concept involving a motorcycle level of restraints and safety equipment? (Rhetorical question) The answer is because we don't want those limits to be very high because there will be folks who don't learn or adapt quickly enough and end up understeering at 90mph off a cliff instead of understeering slightly out of our lane at 40mph.
      Part #2:
The weight, or lack thereof. This is definitely the lightest road legal 1 wheel drive 3 wheeled vehicle ever produced, making it inherently more nimble than it's heavier brethren. (yamaha Nikken is technically 1wd 3 wheeled road legal like the ryker but it is very obviously a completely different animal and is excluded from the segment)
The added stability and feeling of safety and control that one enjoys when riding on 3 wheels instead of 2 used to mean that the transition meant taking leave of all agility and athleticism/urban mobility making it a trade off; When it comes to newly introduced concepts being inserted amongst perfectly fine concepts that have worked for several decades people tend to steer clear unless they really have no choice.
The can am Ryker seems to deliver BOTH stability and feeling of safety/confidence AND the Nimble quick agile nature that we enjoy on 2 wheels, the characteristics that had, until recently only been present when on 2wheels.
Also I bet that you can put passenger car snow tires on the Can Am Ryker, and they'd be dirt cheap too. Very compelling to think about to be honest I really want to try that, Nokian Hakkapelitta 9's have retractable studs that automatically come out when grip is lost and then retract when there is grip also themselves providing a true best of both worlds experience not unlike our Ryker here. I mean look at the thing. It's made by can-am which is a company run by BRP. CANADIAN company that loves their snowmobiles.
The Can Am ryker is a snowmobile with road tires. I think it even shares the same engine as the Ski Doo (BRP) entry level adult snowmobile.

They'd have to make a decent snowmobile first.. After all Canam is owned by BRP which is the company that also owns Ski Doo.. the biggest north american manufacturer of snowmobiles by far.
This is a snow mobile with road tires and I WANT 1!
Oddly enough I want one so I can ride it around during winter months and put nice snow tires on it because If the snow tires have automatically retractable studded snow tires by Nokian then it'll rip the snow just as well as it did before they took the skis and track off and put wheels on it.
