Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful husband, Simon, our daughter, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 23 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 2 decades, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

You clearly brought back some little treasures from your little trip, which will enhance further your already beautiful home. Could I possibly suggest painting the sloping walls in the bathroom, with a fine hand painted border to frame them up. You have a real talent for that, so I am sure the result would be very elegant.

I vote for a mural painted in soft tones in the bathroom. Wonderful brocante finds.
For the bathroom, of course the most luxurious would be covering at least the lower walls with white marble (maybe just marble tiles), with marble or porcelain ornamental trim (the chair rail part). Plus, everything looks great with it. I actually like the green vase.

I like the idea of tiles on the whole wall and half way up on the rest of the walls. Easier to clean. I would love to see a mural designed by you in colors that complement the colors of the tile and granite. You are such an incredible artist. Maybe a scene with birds and flowers? Whatever you choose I’m sure it will be beautiful 🤩 Love that you and Simon share your adventures with friends with us. I love Simon's vase! He has very good taste. After all look at the lovely wife he chose. You bought some amazing pieces. I especially love the black dresser with the marble top. I would kill for the bracelet most of all though. I always say that no matter what size a woman may grow or shrink to we can always find a way to fit jewelry, purses and shoes.

Wallpaper on the sloped walls on either side of the window facing the shower would give interest to match the tiles. Also if the wallpaper had a bit of sheen on it the chandelier will shine of that paper and make the room look gorgeous. French thrift stores

Love the white tiles. I’d do the whole wall, plus the lower paneled area. I’d like to see a lively pattern wallpaper with a lot of white background to make a really large looking room. You both always come up with the best ideas!

Hmmm might be quite different and unexpected to tile all around; I like the idea of tiles and you can treat the upper walls with paint or wallpaper.😉 Oh my!!! Simon in agreement about shopping in a brocante! 😂 ooooh LOCE Empire style. ❤ hahaha I LOVE the vase.
Tile the whole wall. Add capping between the back wall, and the other walls/ceiling to separate the wet zone from the dry zone. Otherwise water could wick from the grout between the tiles into your other areas. that’s a common building code that you have to separate wet zones from dry zones by putting in a metal channel. It might involve taking your green backer board out and putting the channel up first but in the long run it would be worth it to make sure you don’t have any mold.
MURAL! please paint the wall! A gray background with simple maybe chinese like flowers, birds and branches, in white color over the gray, i think it would look amazing and you have the talent to do it
Definitely all tile on the shower wall. Much less chopped up as it is a small room.

the tiles you choose for the new bathroom should be charming - Tiling that whole back wall would look better as the room is not a huge space.
If you can add some wallpaper have you considered the beautiful bespoke botanical wallpaper that Anna does ? - Anna and Phillip who are renovating their chateau. It also means that Anna could create the most appropriate scale of the pattern to suit the size and the historic era of the bathroom.
Tile the back& side walls,wallpaper the slop ceiling!

The window recess needs to be plain, even white, because when the beautiful chandelier is suspended in front of that window, it will behave like the most magnificent crystal as the light will bounce off the walls of that alcove. Do you agree viewers?

Vivienne, I have that same amber bracelet, I purchased it at a Russian Art Exhibition in the early 2,000's. Simon, that is a stunning vase that you purchased, it is such a rich green color, that will make a striking addition to your decor. You two did really well with all of your purchases. I am looking forward to seeing your Empire bedroom as it comes together, that is my favorite period in all of design!!!
