    Fun fact: the GBA "emulator" for the 3DS ambassadors isn't actually an emulator. Technically it's native because it's playing the games using the built in DS hardware, which contains GBA components. Despite the DSi and 3DS not having GBA cartridge ports, they are fully capable of playing digital GBA games natively with either the ambassador games on 3DS or homebrew applications. It's similar to GameCube compatibility on the Wii U in that way.

      @@seseiSeki yes, this is what I was referring to when I said homebrew applications! On the 3DS, it's usually better to use GBA Virtual Console injects as those have higher compatibility (native), but gbarunner2 is a good option for DS(i) users!

    • @shanez1215
      @shanez1215 Před rokem

      This could be a reason, but they added the dark filter to Virtual Console when it was running on Wii/U. Notably for N64 and GBA.
      The reason as far as I know is actually for anti-seizures. The bright flashes of white would be fine on a low-contrast small screen like a Gameboy or GBA or a fairly dim CRT, but when you have the game in black and white on a large LCD TV it could cause serious problems for anyone with epilepsy.
      They were probably worried about other companies not updating their ROM's to tone these effects down (for example I'm pretty sure Nintendo reduced the flashing from Electric moves in Pokemon Yellow on 3DS), so they applied the filter globally in VC with problem games, especially if you were running on Wii/U, as that would be hooked up to a TV.
      The reason why is probably because they're a kids company but also because of the Porygon episode that sent a ton of epileptic kids to the hospital.

      @LennyQUMFIF Před rokem +1

      So that means 3ds hardware is just overclocked DS hardware, and DS is just Overclocked GBA?
      Because the way it works on Wii U is that the Wii is an Overclocked GameCube, and the Wii U is an Overclocked Wii.

    • @angeldude101
      @angeldude101 Před rokem +1

      If I remember correctly, it goes something like this:
      Gameboy was the original.
      Gameboy Color is an overclocked Gameboy.
      Gameboy Advance uses a new architecture, but also contains a mini Gameboy Color inside. Worth noting is that GBA games do not touch the GBC hardware.
      The DS uses a similar architecture, but also contains a mini Gameboy Advance inside. Unlike GBA games, DS games do actually depend on the internal GBA hardware.
      The DSi is an overclocked DS.
      The 3DS again contains a mini DSi, but since DS games depend on GBA hardware, the 3DS also contains a mini GBA.
      The New 3DS is an overclocked 3DS.
      The Switch is a completely different series from both the console and handheld lines, but its ARM64 architecture is closely related to the ARM processors used in the handhelds from the GBA onward (as well as nearly every mobile phone on the market today). I'm honestly curious if the Switch could theoretically run unmodified GBA code, even if it doesn't support the interface.

(which was only used for the game Mag Kid). so you could, say, plug Mario Advance 4 in the Gameboy Player, and a GBA with a GBA to Gamecube Controller with the DS Rumble Pak inserter.
    maybe the next video about hardware-modding should be using the e-Reader Mega Man Battle Network 4/5/6 Custom Cards created by Prof 9: the guy created Western-supported e-Reader cards that can work on both the western and japanese versions of Battle Network 4-6. Although you mentioned the ghosting images present in the standard GBI, you neglected to mention the issues present in the others:
    GBISR: The refresh rate is awful when playing for certain periods of time, as it causes a huge dip in framerate every 10-30 minutes.
    GBIHF: I'm not certain what causes this, but I've come across many people who's TVs simply don't display any image at all when using High Frequency.
    Apparently you need a CRT or a scaler to avoid the above issues, forcing many GBI users to stick to the standard one.

    Is this only to play emulated games, or can you still put in the gba cartridges and run them through the gameboy player? I still have gba games that I haven't played in a while and would love to play Fire Emblem on a big screen.

    One of my fave things about GBI is that it's probably the most "official" way to use a shader to emulate the non backlit screen. You otherwise need emulation or a CleanScreen screen replacement for the GBA.

    I have a question. I have a GameCube memory card that has an SD slot on it do I still need to go through the homebrew channel on the Wii or can I bypass that step since it’s on an SD card plugged into the game cube? Only asking because I don’t have homebrew on the Wii and I would have to do that also. Thanks!

    Would people recommend GBI over the official disc if you're using a small screen? I'm using an intec screen for the GameCube and want to know if the difference is substantial enough to warrant the modding process for a smaller screen (I already own the official disk).

    I followed this, and then couldn't figure out why I couldn't get any games to play in 240p. Those files you said I didn't need, are actually needed so that you're prompted to choose video options when starting GBI. I was going crazy for 4 hours trying to figure out which device in my chain of video components wasn't to blame. Great video otherwise, but yeah that part misled me and burned up my Sunday night.
