My wife bought me a custom gba for Christmas a few years back. It has the lcd screen, Bluetooth for sound, recharger battery and the mega drive with 32 gb sd card. I loaded it with thousands of games. It’s a Nintendo switch themed with Pokémon sword colors. (Grey and pink) I get asked by everyone when I play it. Lol it’s truly the best fit for my hands and the sounds bring me back. I’m a 34 year old man with 3 kids and still play the old SNES classics. Best gift ever!
She bought Jamal a car, and gave Jerome more than that
@@ramrodbldm9876Weirdo with your strange fantasies
Do u know where can i find that?
@@ramrodbldm9876 what are you talking about? How insecure are you. Lol
Watching Bob destroy something every time he mods a device makes me feel so much better about my own meager modding skills! Thanks for the entertainment, Bob!! 😂
clumsy modders ftw
Its relatable when I start a project I never intended to do but to finish I have no choice thats how I got a MXMII in a MXMI laptop
On the other hand, watching Macho Nacho makes you realize just how much your soldering skills suck
@@lezzard Indeed. He makes it look SO EASY too!! 😠
Don't talk about your meager modding skills I'm having a friend show me how to mod my ds tomorrow
I didn’t know Keanu Reeves mods
Derp
That build looks amazing Bob! Thank you for the shout out brother! Great solution for the L and R triggers
This handheld modding series is going to some interesting places. Kinda makes me want to mod an old gameboy and start playing again!
Attention all potential sponsors. This is the only damn channel I actually sit through the sponsor reel. That is not an exaggeration. The sponsored segments are top tier and worth more than whatever you may be paying for other CZcams sponsorships.
so are we just not gonna talk about the screen beeing slightly off inside that case?
I also preferred the OG GBA form factor! GBA SP was cool though, especially the last iteration where the screen didn't look like shit.
The rechargeable battery was a crazy good improvement as well.
I love my SP but it’s funny that all I have now is my GBA og and I will never part with it!
The original Gameboy Advance is so easy to mod, even back then. There were external battery packs that could be bought and easily be replaced by anyone.
Agreed it was far more comfortable.
I remember not even understanding the concept of the new screen as a kid. I had a GBA SP 001 version and my friend had a GBA SP 101 version and I never understood why his screen looked so much brighter and more vibrant than mines. I actually thought it had more to do with the colors than the actual brightness for some reason. I was about 10 year old when I got my first GBA SP
Seeing people customizing retro handhelds is kinda awesome! I used to love some of the GBA's games. Like Kirby's Amazing mirror.
You have great taste! Best Kirby game of all time 😁
My gameboy has A LOT done to it. Always brings joy to see someone sharing the hobby. Great Vids!
100% agree on the form factor. OG GBA, PSP that's all my jam. I'll have to try this with a case for the IPS 3 display
Congrats on the 800K! You deserve each and every one of them and so many, many more! Wishing you lots of continued success in the future, Bob!
Same here, Bob! It's just all nostalgia for me -- I saved up my cash and bought this as my first pre-teen console. Followed all of the pre-release drops and was soooo pumped to play Mario Kart on this. It was just a magical time with the GBA. :)
Watching this be put together live was an experience for sure 😂
At 00:07 when that sweet, sweet Gameboy noise lined up nicely with the music... You crafty editing man Bob!
1:00 The screen looks a little offset. And the screen hole shaving seems to have left gaps underneath the top edges of the screen cover.
Can't wait to see what happened!
he says that in the video around 8 min in
800k Let’s goooo!!! Congrats guys, keep up the good work!
I'm glad the membrane workaround worked for L and R. Nice job, really nice case!
Insane in the membrane
Bob ur great - ur personality is the ultimate mod. To sponsors: support this guy and we will support u.
I truly appreciate how funny and informative you are wolf! Thanks for this video!
From one retro console enthusiast to another, there's actually a very tiny metal piece for the shoulder bumpers that you're missing and they're extremely difficult to keep in place when you're assembling the gameboy. Those are what actually give you that clicking feel that you were missing. It's like a very thin piece of metal that goes in a loop-de-loop like a roller coaster going upside down if that makes sense. I refurbished my cousin's old GBA after the screw mounts crumbled just because of how old it was so I got a new case for it so that's how I know.
I believe that’s only for the gba sp. the original gba has a thin metal rectangle that allows the buttons to bounce back up. The spring does the same thing on the gba sp.
@@nightwing179Yep, that's an SP thang.
That opening scene with the video feels like a scene that will appear in a movie in a few years about using old archaic technology to defeat an AI. Like someone left a message behind on this GBA with a clue for where to go next.
I have to thank you bigtime for the introduction to Boxy Pixel, I'm so excited to get the Joy Con shells and a GBA shell or two!
props for including the fusion ost in the intro, this thing looks dope
Thank you for putting in metroid ost in the beginning of the video. It brought back some good memories.
Using that Fusion track for so much of the video is so good
bob has re ignited my determination of emulation and also just things what I missed about it years and years ago I used to do.
The intro is fire. Bob, you're keeping up with the awesome content, I'd enjoy it anyway (I like the topics right?), but WE DO APPRECIATE THE EFFORT, thank you.
I made mine with a black shell, blue buttons, the 2nd gen ips display and plan to upgrade the battery to be the internal battery with usb c. Zelda on it is pretty dope
Making a custom gameboy sounds like a nice project for the weekend.
That's awesome. I'd love a metal GBA, in black or gunmetal grey. I can imagine the feel on your hands.
Love this! You put me on to emulation. Got my first Miyoo mini plus. Can’t wait to mod this weird black color
I'm glad I picked up 2 original GBAs for $50 in a garage sale can't wait to find time to mod them
I still have my glacier gameboy advance. Love the video!
That INTRO!!! Chief's kiss, good shit.
Love Bob modding EVERYTHING
i got the nostalgia chills thats so beautiful i want to play Pokemon Red on that.
That underwater Sector 4 AQA Metroid Fusion theme
The background music in this video is on point.
Oh man the theme from AQA sector in Metroid Fusion, what a vibe. Still my favourite theme in all of Metroid.
I feel so blessed with all the bob content lately :)
That intro was elite. You're a wizard Bob!
My god. That has to be the most BEAUTIFUL GBA i've ever seen!
The Gameboy Advance is the only Gameboy I owned, had so much fun on it.
Looks awesome man. Great job. Love custom handhelds
I absolutely love this channel. Keep going!
I always loved the GBA SP the best. I had the Pelican battery pack and the XEFlash. It was awesome. Wifey liked it so much she had me get her one too. But sadly someone broke into my car and looted it. I loved it.
intro was really creative. super cool. about to say...what's original left. But the case is pretty swag wow. Filing lol
Ayyyy the Macho Nacho shoutout! Another channel with quality content
dude you re amazing the way your speak and the fact your did build it i thinked your only reviewed stuff i myself i am an electronician repairing stuff you earned a subscriber jesus :D
Congrats on 800k brother!
Had no idea about the 3.0. For sure doing that for my next mod!
Have my own similar custom but with a Crystal Purple shell from RetroSix. As a daily driver for Gameboy and Advance games is really nice. Normally just whip it out on the London underground/subway and play. Not too worried about ruining it as the case is reasonably cheap and I just pop back into a sock to keep it safe. It's odd we have so many emulation options now but I still find myself going back to the consoles with the original shape/feel. Maybe it's just nostalgia lol.
Congrats on 800k bob!
Wood is getting crafty with hands lately.
Very nice ! love the way it looks!
nice metroid fusion background music.
As much as I like the boxy pixel shells, I hesitate in using one since I eventually want to try adding Bluetooth audio to one of mine once I work out the logistics. Aside frome that, this GBA turned out super sweet!
I cannot believe this channel doesn't have like 1.5 million subscribers yet. Who ever hasn't hit the button just go ahead and stop wasting your time and hit subscribe
The opening with the video on the GBA was really cool, I have not seen that done before
Love the 'advanced' in the video title
Fairly certain i came across this video over about a year ago when you first released it, immediately went online and did metal shells, Usb-C and upgraded display on my gameboy advance i had sitting in a storage box in my office and advance SP i left at my parents 😂 now i play them so much more. Gameboy advance was WAYYYYY easier than the SP, mainly bc of the hinges. That being said i love these mods
I legitimately just got a gba for $20 from a local shop because they didn't want to clean it up and test it lol. Gonna do a similar mod after I clean the board up a bit. Great timing!
Love the little touches in this editing. Also love the fusion music
I was thinking it was from fusion, because I was just playing it. But I really want to figure out which part of the OST is it from.
@@poniesheartcocaine i believe it was the underwater section
@@danpatrick7176 you're the MVP!
Te llevo viendo hace varios meses pero hasta ahora me suscribo, gracias por los subtitulos en español :D
I love the spooky music.
OMG! Finally XD. I have the SP for the backlight but it hurts my hands when I play too long. Finally someone says it, I am not alone! :)
love your videos and bought your apperal, thank you for making these videos
That case reminds me a lot of my Gold Pokémon GBA and I love it. I probably won't pay for the metal shell, but it looks great
Congratulations to 800K
So excited to see you at 800K bahb!! It's well deserved!
I’m honestly surprised he isn’t at one mil he always has a professional style
I know it's not usually Bob's thing but the day I see him upload a video on wii u modding I can feel complete
the wolf on the shell I approve!
Bob this editing is Godly
bro that is such an amazing looking GBA
Man, so cool videos, I would like to have the confidence to do those mods specially since here in Mexico is a bit more complicated to get all those pieces, but every time I see this kind of videos I have the same question: What is stoping Nintendo to relaunch those "old" consoles with digital stores? They have already done stuff like bringing the G&W, why not a GBA, DS, 3DS with virtual console stores, that would stop piracy (to a degree) and would make a lot of us nostalgic gamers very happy.
Today is now a good day having Will upload.
Idk if you read comments Bob but you have the *cleanest* looking thumbnails for your videos. They just look so sleek. Keep up the good work.
I have a GBA with the Funnyplaying screen and the Minish Cap case Macho Nacho featured in one of his videos. Love it. Of course now, many of the GBA/GB/GBC games I always wanted to play are now on Switch NSO. I got the GBA, GBA Player for GC, the EZ-Flash and was able to play Minish Cap and the Metroid GB/GBA games on the TV w/o emulation. Of course they look so good on the TV via NSO.
It definitely inspires me to start my own GBA mod
I used the Macho Nacho video of their 3.0 IPS screen to mod my Gameboy advance. And I love it. Also, Funny Playing has a type c rechargeable battery pack that lights up a tiny LED light to let you know if it's charging, but it's only visible if you use a clear case like I did
Big ups for the reminder at the very end.
I liked that clamshell design when I was a kid, it was right for me at hte time. now that I'm old and dont take my handheld around so much for that matter, I really love my boxypixel GBA.
Bro upgraded the OG 😂. That’s so cool
Seems pretty sweet but not without room for improvement. Need a battery charge indicator, included pushback thing for the shoulders, and possible a shell model for the new screen. Still cool either way.
Me opening this video: is it Boxy Pixel?
Bobby at 1:31: This Boxy Pixel case...
nailed it
Still a fan of the OG Gameboy layout. The SP that makes it not a clam shell is my personal favorite way to see a GBA.
Great mod; The GB accelerator from division 6 would work great with it the guides really easy to understand and if you play a lot of RPGs it’s a must for the grind in older games. It’s pretty cheap if your in the US too.
Have you tried this? I want to do this but I have read that the accelerator is not compatible with the Funnyplaying screens.
i always preferred the SP one bc it was easier to protect the screen, turn on the brightness, and it fit so well in my pocket so whenever my dad and i travelled four hours to Kentucky every weekend to visit his gf, i would whip out my gameboy advance SP and just played pokemon fire red. the battery lasted for pretty much the entire time since it was so dark out after an hour so i didn't need the extra brightness
Cool vid, I've been wanting a modded GBA for awhile.
Much Thanks for the portuguese subtitles 😊
Great job. How/where did you get the awesome wolf den logo from?
The Charge Indicator Light is a little red light that shines through a peep hole next to the C port; it turns blue on a full charge. I made this same build a few weeks ago and still waiting for the battery to die lol I’m over 20hours at least.
He finally did it!!!
Not me here totally drooling over that GBA
Love the theme music
With a custom kernel for the Ez Flash Omega you can use also Gamegear Games and the look beautiful on a GBA (SP) IPS Screen
I bought a custom GBA a while back but sold it. Now I want to try and build one
Rad intro transition
Nice metroid fusion background music 😮
