I am an American and a music fanatic. Somehow…the Hip was never a part of my life’s soundtrack…until the day Gord passed. I saw it on the news…and I saw the immense love shown from the fans when he died. I immediately dug in, and I have been enveloped in their music ever since. I am blessed to have found them.
That's a story I love to hear. They are my all time favourite band. I was a Canadian boy growing up in the states and I was able to get a few buddies into them as well
Heard this for the first time today on my local radio station and hearing Gord in his prime so clear and full of life gave me goosebumps. Rest Easy Gord you absolute legend
Had never heard it and thought "all the times that I thought were my friend" was eerily foretelling. So thankful for everything he left us but wish there was so much more. RIP Gordie
@@TheAmishElectrican Thats very debatable. Not the same generation. But Stompin Tom wrote songs about what was happening right outside his window, and went coast to coast most of his life telling stories along the way. Very similar to The Hip. Sometimes if there was more traffic heading the other way, he would just walk across the highway and hitch. I had several chances to meet him and The Hip over the years.
I can't keep my eyes dry. I lost my best friend of 42 years in 2022 to ALS. We were hip from the start. Hearing Gords voice again is heartbreaking and a beautiful thing. Today the past became the present and with it all the lost souls are reunited again.
My favorite album of all time is "Up To Here"! In 1991 they played "New Orleans is Sinking" a lot on the Seattle stations and I was hooked on the Hip ever since!
They never pushed to be popular in The States. Plus so much of their music is based on Canadian history, don’t think it resonated the same way with Americans as they did with Canadians.
Heard this by chance today on the radio in my truck just after dropping off my 15 year old son, I called him when I got home and told him to listen to it , he loves the hip as I do. He loved it as I do. First saw them on July 1st 1991, a week after I graduated high-school. Didn't really know who they were at the time, but when they hit the stage I got educated quickly. I'm an American in Northern ny, and I can see Canada from my house, and The Tragically Hip are the best band I've ever seen live! Seen them many times. And today brought me back to every time I did! Thank you to one of the best bands ever❤
Amazing band to see live, great you educated your son on some amazing Canadian music and he likes it. Really happy I got to see the hip twice. Other great Canadian bands to check out; Big Wreck, The Trews, Big Sugar
This song was a Napster find for me decades ago. I never knew it existed, but I found it when downloading live versions of hip songs back then. With my internet speed at the time, I'd set up about 25 songs to download before I went to bed and then see what worked the next morning. Usually 6-12 new songs... it was just as exciting as making mixed tapes for my car a decade before that.
I put this on a 'rare" Tragically Hip mix CD and burned 25 copies, hand numbered them took them to a show in Deer Lake Park in Burnaby BC, 2011 and handed them out to fans. Glad to hear it again. Gord's voice in this era is just unreal. Thanks! Side Note, at that show in 2011, The Hip played We Want To Be It, (then known as Drip Drip Drip to fans). Not a single person at that show knew that song, it was outdoor and it was pouring raining and it was general admission. We were all soaked and singing Drip Drip Drip with Gord. It was and still is the best crowd response I've ever witnessed to brand new music. A special spine tingling moment with our band. I will never forget that.
Thank you. You all have already given us so much, and yet you still choose to give. It's beautiful. I hope that wherever you are, you feel some of the joy and comfort that your gifts continue to give us. This song reminds us of what we've lost, but also how far we've come; and that nothing we love, is ever really gone.
Unreleased or otherwise, this is one of the greatest Hip songs ever. The acoustic beginning, the Johnny Fay kick-in, the melodies, Paul's great back up, the sweet Baker solo, and of course the genius that is Gord Downie. It's as close to perfection as you can get
Have to confess, have had the Misty Moon concert on all my devices forever. When it aired on Much Music back around 1990 I recorded it on VHS. Stripped the audio to tape and for the first number of years, just played it on tape. Such a great concert when CDs came out big, I converted the tape to CD Audio to play in my CD player, later ripping it to MP3. So glad you guys have been publishing all your oldies in recent years. Really brings back memories of concerts in the early days when I was much younger...and now I can be legit. 🙂
Same here... All my friends were over and we had a huge party to watch this. I was lucky enough to "Know a friend who knew a friend" (played in dream academy) and we got to know them just after the first album dropped with Smalltown Bringdown. They were all so down to earth, liked pints, hockey and talking BS.
I have the concert shirt that he is wearing! Kept it all these years and it still fits too...thanks for this. Can't write much more, something in my eye....
As an american Hip fan on Long Island New York i was blessed to see them a few times in NYC as well as a few times in small venues here on long island. I always enjoyed the music as i went from a teenager into adulthood in the 90s, but in the last 2 years or so listening to the Hip is just now on another level for me. As a youngster i never appreciated the lyrics and craftsmanship of the playing of the songs but now i appreciate and respect the music so much more and most importantly more and more of the songs resonate with me in a different way and in sone cases have brought new meaning to me at this point of my life even some of their classics as well. I am forever a fan and forever grateful for The Hiip
Always loved this song. The opening line just hits the ground running. Such a nice mellow groove and just such a cool vibe. The vocals between Gord and Paul dance around so well. Great remix too guys. Much more open, and Johnny's drums are mixed in crisply. Nice work guys. Thanks for putting this out!!
Hearing this song. It's like music to my ears! Cheers! Don't forget the years. Let's just be happy we're here. Alright. I'm gonna go for now. Don't forget to write. It'll be alright. Alright. Just sing from your heart. That's what's right. It's been there all along. All you have to do is believe and you can accomplish anything. That's all for now. Until next time. Until we get back again. Until we get back again!
I listened to this song growing up in the mid 90's, I think it was taped live on VHS. I love this video, which captures how we were free. Spending time together, no cell phones, except our 2 rich friends that could only make calls. I have had a very hard life, but my teens to early 20's were awesome.
This is a beautiful song. I get serious Keith Urbun in his voice and I mean that as a big compliment, not criticism. I am so glad to have found another hidden gem on utube.👍👍👍👍

Thanks for releasing this. Thinking I'd never hear new songs from you guys is so sad. Please release "never released" songs forever. Miss you guys, so much.
Gord is Captain Canada in my opinion. His voice so subtle as to examine a painting of our neighborhoods as a kid. And to make us feel proud for how we painted said neighborhood. The true Canadian accent. Thanks to the band for everything and letting us hear this
Gord was born to channel these beautiful songs. They make us feel joy, wonder, nostalgia, regret, pain, and pride. Only Canadians get it. I’m sure we all ask how he came up with these lyrics. He’s a national treasure. It’s hard to pay him the tribute he deserves. There are simply not enough words or time. I find myself crying and feeling excitement all the time when the Hip is playing. ❤
@Kevin-hy8gb awesome to hear I will say that Canadians just get this band more than anyone else. I think people from other places can really get I to the music and all that, but the band was so much more to us. Basically the sound track to our lives for 30 years. They were Canada personified from about 1985 to 2005 or so. The band is part of Canadian culture and identity. I don't think it's possible for an American, or any other nationally to fully get the band the way we do. Glad you were able to find and enjoy them too though.

First time hearing this song also. Really like it. Rest in Peace Gord. You are missed. 😢
Yes.. same with me. Goosebumps and then tears for the memories. Thank you Gord, Paul, Rob, Gord and Johnny!

Someone yesterday said “I don’t even care if it’s not good, I just want to hear from Gord again” and this is EPIC
Never heard anything that wasn't good from the Hip

ME TOO , My best friend passed away at age 42 in 2013 from cancer . The only thing I can tell you is it will get easier as time passes .
How this was not included on Up To Here is beyond me. As an American, I just cant understand why they are not huge here.
Originnally supposed to be on road apples
Maybe it was total run time of the album for vinyl or tape at the time.
American fan here. I agree. I Think somehow we just got missed with radio airplay. I learned about The Hip in 2007 and became obsessed!

Used to see them in local bars around Ontario when they were up and coming it was cool to see them reach success.
Leaving it unreleased and never replaying it after early on, only added to it's legend. Enjoy one of the best Hip songs ever recorded.
Same with Crack my spine like a whip.

Pearl Jam has Yellow Ledbetter, Tragically Hip has Get Back Again. 2 of my favorite songs that never made it to an album.

I've been deliriously in love with this song for many years, and I never thought I'd hear an official studio recording of it! How wonderful.
