I had an Aunt that only drank Coke, about 12-18 a day. Her excuse was she lived in Phoenix and didn’t want to drink the nasty tap water. She had full dentures at 40, diabetes at 45, and a ton of other health problems. She still drank 6 cokes a day when she had diabetes. Finally gave it up when she turned 50, but her health never recovered. Passed away when she was 58.

A family friend literally lost her sight, and her legs to drinking massive amounts of soda and eating an incredibly unhealthy diet. In her case, she never gave any of it up and ended up dying from complications from diabetes. It was so depressing to watch.

About 15 years back I went through a "diet coke phase" and would go through more than a case of Diet Coke or Coke Zero on my own every week. This went on for about 6 -8 months and along with a new more stringent exercise regimen, it did help me cut down a good bit of weight and help me make significant fitness strides... and put about 10 years worth of wear through my teeth. Even practicing consistent and sound dental hygiene this habit took its toll. Luckily I also go to yearly dental checkups and they instantly helped steer me away from this before I could do more damage to myself.
I still enjoy a Coke on occasion, and I think that is ok. It also helps if you consume with a meal instead of as a standalone snack if you wish to drink it more often. Everything with moderation. Also, know everything comes with a price and if you abuse this then it will come with a significant health cost.

Standard sugar-sweetened Coke is kind of toxic, especially when there is high fructose corn syrup, which is a small molecule which is the base for building the cholesterol plaques in the blood vessels.
I do drink a couple of sugar-free Diet Coke per day. It require a lot of discipline though.
I believe it should be a warning on sugared Coke cans, saying that more than one can per day is dangerous to health.
I do drink plain water for the rest of the day.
It is very good that you made this video, it is well researched and medically correct.
People don't need to stop drinking sugared Coke, but - initially - switch to Diet Coke.
Diet Coke has its own set of problems, because the sweetener cause the slowing of liver activity, felt as nausea; but it is much less dangerous than sugar or HFCS.
During the summer, I use sparkling water with fresh lemon juice and a sliver of sweetener (a lemonade).
    Thank you for the video...

To answer a common question not addressed in the video: Why the fructose contained in the fruit is not toxic like the fructose contained in U.S. Coke.
The answer is that the fruits, in conjunction with the fructose, do also contain a lot of fiber. The fiber accelerate greatly the transit of fructose in the digestive system, denying all the negative consequences (the formation of low molecular weight tryglicerids) of standalone fructose.

The most interesting fact is, this phenomenon of losing its effect of shugar push and sleep deprevation depends on the coke brand, so some some cokes are not having a big effect, others have!

However, when he tried to stop drinking sodas since his kids were concerned of him.. he went into withdrawal.. soooo it was a good reason for him not to stop consuming sodas….

It absolutely is hard to quit you get so used to something your body goes through withdrawals drinking sugar free drinks is actually worse because it contains aspartame which causes cancer best thing to do is enjoy a drink in moderation once in awhile it's a treat problem is it's so readily available and cheap that you just go crazy with it like everybody else does I do my kids do. And a lot of times the problem is once you quit it's already too late all the damages done my dad's got brain damage diabetes holes in his legs and that's from drinking too much alcohol but all the alcohol turns into sugars that's why alcohol causes diabetes but once again too much of anything is bad even too many vegetables is bad for you it's all about moderation

After playing with them in the garden they wanted to drink something so I offered them some water and one of them was 5 and told me he thinks water tastes bad and never drinks it, his little sister of 3 also didn’t want water or anything else. So I asked them what they normally drink and they told me they basically only drink soda, I was shocked man. Only drinks with sugar in it at that age is definitely not good for them and knowing I can do nothing about it kinda makes me sad. They’re lovely kids but already overweight and it’s a pain to see their eating patterns.

    • @CakePrincessCelestia
      @CakePrincessCelestia Před 2 lety

Mentioning squash, you made me comment... I was looking for that word :D
I never drank awful lots (like 1.5 - 2 + litres a day) of coke or similar beverages in the first place, but I still drink like ~half a litre a day which mostly is squash and sparkling water, but sometimes also stuff like Cola + Orange (+ Lemon) mixes (PepsiCo's Schwip Schwap which I think is a German thing only or Spezi, don't like Mezzo Mix), but I rarely increase the amount of that when I have to quench my thirst on a hot day or after some activity and if I do, not by much. I usually just drink a lot of tap water in that case and just get a small amount of something with a sweet taste afterwards. The good thing about squash is that you can just take less of it so it's not absurdly sweet where you can feel something like a carpet on your teeth after drinking a glass of it (Coke is pretty good at that). I can't even drink Fanta and Sprite anymore, they're just utter sugar bombs. If you really want to have the light way with some taste, just put a bit of lemon juice (or concentrate of that) into sparling water. I do make my sparkling water with a Sodastream and tap water (which is actually top notch where I live), so I don't even have to carry that stuff home and it's always fresh.
I also don't like the diet drinks, can't stand the taste of Aspartame, acesulfame-K and natrium cyclamate, it's horribly bitter and that's the typical mix of artificial sweeteners here. I tried drinks with stevia instead, but the EU didn't allow the refined variant that you would get in the US or South American countries where it originates from which doesn't taste bitter, but only unrefined Stevia which does have a bitter taste to it. Was hoping for it becoming a real alternative, but well, it didn't end up being that.
